Important tip for multiple weapons. Always switch to your set with a melee weapon at the end of your turn. That way you can parry if someone runs up close with a melee attack. You can always switch back to the ranged option at the start of the next turn. Also, one of the most important support skills is the Officer's ability to give characters an extra turn.
Yup. If you have 2, or god forbid 3 officers in your party... there is no fight in the game that won't be finished in the 1st turn, with enemies probably never even taking a shot. Officer skills are simply broken, waaaay too OP. They need to nerf them a lot. There is also a point fairly early where Officers get to start first, no matter their initiative, but they can use "only" their officer abilities. It resulted in comical situations where my two officers (MC and Cassia) would both give Argenta the extra turn, she would fire at least 4-5 bursts (killing up to a dozen enemies that way), then activating Heroic action, making her first attack 0AP and not counting towards attack limit, then filling up Momentum again, so Cassia that now gets her regular turn can give another extra turn to Argenta, followed by now heroic action with Extra turn. Basically, before ANYONE even moved yet, Argenta got ~4 extra turns and cleared up every single enemy from the encounter. Add a 3rd officer (for example Jae when you get to her) and you are guaranteed to kill every single enemy before they even fire at you, let alone endanger anyone from your team.
I wish I had seen this before I started playing Rogue Trader. Would have saved me a headache. The game is less good at explaining the system to beginners. SO more explanatory videos from you are appreciated. Incidentally, Rogue Trader is awesome.
This game is dope af. I can't believe I sat on this game since I bought it at launch. I'm 50 hours in and loving every minute of it. The lore and world building are amazing. Death to the heretics.
PartyElite, been watching you for years man, just wanted to say thanks for the quality content and dedication you always bring to us. The Emperor protects!
I'd love to see more Rogue Trader content! I'm thinking of getting the game, but as it looks rather complicated in some spots, I'd like more insight into it before I charge headlong into it. Cheers!
There’s too much to the game to understand and you won’t get through it in a day. Also, unless you copy verbatim someone else’s build or written instructions to play the game on normal or higher mode, you’ll still not understand how it works. You would be better off just learning as you go, trial and error, without building the best of anything (you’re not being graded). That’s how I’m doing it and it’s extremely satisfying. I can play the “perfect” game on the next go round.
I'm so tempted to grab Rogue Trader. After trying BG3 and hating the RNG of almost everything I swore off CRPG's but... god I love Warhammer and I've always had fun in other Owlcat games like Pathfinder 2.
Really handy video, thanks! Great explanations backed up with annotations - not just a voiceover. Very handy for someone like me who has just read an absolute ton of Dan Abnett 40k novels only to discover this game by complete chance and thought all his Christmases had come at once! :)
Thank you man! I got this game recently and really appreciate the breakdown of systems and how to interpret some of these numbers and modifiers flying around
One action econ build I'm going is to give Abelard the boot that reduces charge cost by 1 and use Bring it Down on him (give target extra turn with 2 AP 0 MP) and have him charge AND still be able to land a single target strike.
Thanks! IMHO "Investigate first" is important. I also very much enjoy the hard choiceswhen running one/two melee character/s/; stand back and do very little OR rush in and do lots of damage but perhaps get punished for it. So far I find that my two melee characters (main Comissar Officer and Abelard) works best when not being shy - but they eat a lof of med kits. :)
Just picked this up. Always thought 40k was awesome design wise. Played Chaos Gate when it came out because I've really liked XCOM-style games and really liked it too. So I was really interested in this one to dive into a bit more lore deep of 40k. Great video but now my nose is bleeding from all the thinking my brain need to do now 😅
I just use 5 officers to buff the Raging Nun with extra turns and all of the Emperors love. They can't do shit. The only way the can move if it's an ambush.
FYI: there is no tabletop rogue trader, originally it's a pen&paper RPG (still available and awesome). If you want a tabletop the corresponding game would be Inquisitor (OOP) or any Warhammer 40K tabletop.
Really smooth and informative video. I especially like how well you explain the rather complex topics. I started out my journey today and Im a complete newcomer to this universe. I played some crpgs in the past but this was certainly helpful. So much much appreciated. Much love from Germany!
Just bought this game and I just landed at rykard minoris after going to the station first and I'm super glad I did that lol. But this game has been super good so far and I'm only a couple hours in.
Thx a lot for explaining this system. English is not my first language and its sometimes difficult to get all of those rules and dependences. But this game is owsome and man gotta push on. Cheers.
Never been SUPER into war hammer but this game got explained to me as a baldurs gate 3 clone set in a almost apocalyptic universe. Honestly I think I like this game more than bg3. Not by much but still solid game! Feels like I’m reading a very good book whenever I play
Despite there being a few things I dislike, I thoroughly enjoy the game. But if I had to pick one single thing that absolutely rubs me the wrong way, it's that it takes zero AP to swap weapons but my sniper has to waste an entire turn reloading her rifle because that takes 3 AP. By itself, that wouldn't be the end of the world. You could fire, reload, end the turn. But you can't reload at all until the gun is empty.
I thank you very much for the great guide, I have been following you for a long time, especially because the Rouge Tradar beta. Keep up the great work, waiting for class guide.
Great video, I have been waiting for patches to play this cause I hit a progression blocking bug and don't wanna restart till I know that's much less likely to happen.
I don't think there is as much about coop system to make a whole video. 1 Player plays his game, makes all the decisions, saves/interacts in the RP. When you got your squad out, that's when all players can use a character. (up to 6 total) Basically, if you're not on a planet, you're just along for the ride. But it can be a great ride!

I love baldurs gate 3 and it is a revolutionary crpg as it optimizes the experience through highly cinematic storytelling which will probably never be done again in a crpg, however I gotta say it was refreshing to actually get everything explained for someone who isn’t that familiar with the subgenre.

WH40K: ROGUE TRADER is by no means an adaptation of any tabletop game, do not confuse it with Warhammer 40K. WH40K: ROGUE TRADER is the adaptation of the pen and paper RPG that plays in the Warhammer 40K unviverse. The tabletop and the pen and paper RPG each use completely different rules. Only the lore is shared. If you are familiar with the pen and paper RPG rules you will feel right at home.
"RPGs" are usually classified as either CRPG (computer RPG) or TTRPG (tabletop RPG - aka pen-and-paper RPG). It's the TTRPG system I'm referring to, here, as the adapted material, not the "wargaming" 40k system.
@@PartyElite I agree that definitions can vary! If you mean the pen and paper RPG rule set, then you are just wrong about the rules being different in the PC game. I have a printed set of those rules in front of me, the adaptation of the original rules is spot on, just a very few changes. The big difference is towards the classic tabletop ruleset from Warhammer 40K. To further elaborate: The "tabletop" Warhammer 40K uses miniatures to play a tactical game like chess with armys. The "pen and paper" WH40K Rogue Trader narrates a story that has tactical moments/situations and those may or may not be represented by miniatures, you play a character.

My advise to 40k fans who dont usually play games like this is, for the love of god pick story difficulty and turn on all tutorials in settings. This is my first crpg and i spent about 4 hours having to redo a fight early on in the game because lasguns shoot through cover and do 1/8 of my health and theres 10 guys with lasguns shooting 4 shots each... Maybe it was pure bad rng but i was getting shredded by the enemies and even the npc on my side who had no problem shooting through my team.
Guys... they are lasguns, not lascannons. Point me in the direction of the lore that shows them punching through entire shipping containers, walls, a steel pylon and still having enough punch kill. I'm not saying lasguns are shit, they aren't them being flashlights is a meme and relative to the rest of 40k weapons.
@papafoundry5537 this being my first crpg (which I wrote in my original comment) I would firmly put myself in the casual camp... I'm not hating on the game, I'm giving advice born from my experience with the game as a first time player to other first time players who may only be playing this game because its 40k like myself.
The injuries system here is just the worst, no way to get rid of them - only to get on the ship. Which means, either you run back and forth, which eats a bunch of your time or simply don't get hurt
Hey man- how are these 10 Essential Tips? This is just telling us about features/systems within the game. It’s like a video form of the in-game tutorial. Give us some real tips or use your knowledge to tell us what to not waste time on early in the game.
1st tip should be - Don`t buy it yet. I`ve clocked 130 hours, but act 3 was a nightmare of constant reloads. Act 4 - I`m unable to even start it. I know there are people who brute force the game through software and mods to finish it- but what is the point?? Game is absolutely fantastic - but in current state- all those videos saying do this, do that are pointless. Cause it is a bugfest. Half of the skills don`t work, quest are bugged. Wait for it - 2 months at least or more knowing Owlcats. And then get it.
@@tomkatt2215 1 and 2nd are not that bad. Wait for 3rd and 4th... For the moment I`ve stopped. Don`t see a point of going forward. They said they fixed stuff- and that saves might not worked with fixed content - so I punched through 3 acts again and got stuck literally at the same place. So yeah. This game probably would be a no1 this year for me. Now... I just have no words :)
@@77Bakh Well, unfortunately, it is common for today's games to be released containing bugs. Same with Pathfinder WotR. Rest assured that Owlcat will fix it, but it will take time. I'll probably do like you and put the game aside when I get to Act 3.
"You can't make a jack of all trades" Uh, I may have done an entire archetype wrong then... My only gripe leveling is about weapons as I wouldn't know whether to take melta versus plasma or some such because you don't get them early and you couldn't even try them out if you had without the skills. I have almost finished the first start system and didn't realize you could Cargo all the useless loot. Might max out these vendors then.
Most important tip. You are roleplaying in a world of Catholic Space "1940 German Baddies" and you need to be prepared for this. If you try to act in a 21st century mindset, very bad things are going to happen and everyone will think of you as an incompetent idiot.

I'll probably do like you and put the game aside when I get to Act 3.
graphics and art style reminds me outer worlds so bad.
Tip one: wait for a discount.
Just use the five finger discount of the high seas
Lorewise against chaos melee weapons and fire should work the best.
Most important tip.
You are roleplaying in a world of Catholic Space "1940 German Baddies" and you need to be prepared for this.
If you try to act in a 21st century mindset, very bad things are going to happen and everyone will think of you as an incompetent idiot.
i am much more interested in a letsplay
some of these things were interesting, but most are either clear in game or become clear while playing
