    I do think it's a neat note in the Commissar Cain novels that alot of people call every law enforcer an arbites until they run into an actual arbites officer.

      @@TactWendigo It doesn't happen in the Cain series, but it was a good comment about people calling any law enforcer arbites until they run into the real thing. There's a series about an Arbites Justicar that has this happen multiple times. Where people used to local enforcers run into the Justicar, who is an actual imperial arbites and discover how big a difference that means.

    New theory. Judge Dredd takes place in the 40k universe during the Age of Strife and the Judges were reorganized into the Arbites after the Emperor united Terra.

    Just imagine after a long day slaving away in a manufactorium you hear a knock on your door, open it and discover a hulking Arbites standing there who calmly informs you of your guilt regarding being the great grandson of some long dead heretic before emptying the barrels of his shotgun into your face before you can even figure out what by the Emperor's golden balls he is even talking about.     Matthew Farrer's Enforcer trilogy is a good read for getting a sense of what the Arbites do, how they're trained, and what their relations typically are with other adeptus orders.

How does their command structure intersect with the Imperial Guard's command structure, what are their official duties & reaches of their authority? How high up the Imperial Guard's command chain can they boss around without an official request from a higher office? What are the circumstances & procedures in which they can take over a regiment? Are there special formations of troops that are officially assembled to carry out their edicts? When can they receive orders from Imperial Guard officers? Etc

    The Arbites go as far back as the original 1987 Warhammer 40'000 Rogue trader book, their stats were about the same as the space marines but with carapace armour. They deserve more attention than another space marine variant.

    The owner of 2000AD and Dredd said he wants a sequel to happen! On lindybeiges channel there is an interview with the man. He also put the myth to end about Urban wanting to keep the helmet on. They made a whole written agreement that the helmet stays on for Dredd the whole movie. 😁

    The Judge Dredd influence gets lampshaded in one of the Ciaphas Cain novels. An Arbitrator that Cain is working with to hunt down cult-related smugglers quotes an in-universe fictional character named "Arbitrator Foreboding," the lead of a popular holo series at the time.

    I would say you missed out on the 3D Arch, I know it isn't the best thing in the world and mostly gone now. but there was something to be said about how all the blood in the slo mo sections popping out of the screen and the play on depth within the megacity structure was well done. Man I need to watch this again now...

    Ironically, the book of judgement or lex imperialis is actually pretty close to what the roman law was (late republic to empire). A lot of laws that were passed at different times and since this was before the internet, a lot of inconsistencies and contradiction.

    Fun thing about the Dredd movie, some of the guys who worked on the 2012 film also worked on an action/kung fu flick called The Raid. And it shows. You will like that movie Arch, check it out.

      Arbites usually don't give a crap about rural planets and they usually aren't bothered with petty crimes or even the 40k equivalent of a felony. Arbites are meant to fight the type of crimes that threatens the stability of the imperium. They fight organized crime, cults, large gangs and track down serial killers etc.

    Can't believe I keep falling asleep to Arch's Lore videos. It keeps happening. That's not a bad thing. I am massively sleep deprived and have a very hard time falling asleep.
    Another good thing is that I can watch these videos again for the first time.

    I've always thought the cops from The Fifth Element had a decent Arbites look. They were a bit goofy in the movie but they had the heavy gear hive spire vibe.

    The Shira Calpurnia novels are great, if you're looking for WH40k themed law and order story. I'd actually put Calpurnia second on my list behind Cain as favorite books, since I'm not a big fan of space marines.

      This book deserves praise simply for giving the picture of arrested people, being thrown into sacks with straps on, and then strapped to the outside of the Repressors because. This is how little the Arbites care about your welbeing and comfort.
      Also the part about enhanced interigation not being to determine guilt, but to make the prisoner realise their actual crime so their soul can be redemmed through atonement.
      40K comes with its own kind of logic and when done right it is so fun.

    I can't believe he didn't mention the Adeptus Arbites also got their own Strike Cruisers for when rapid responce and deployment is needed. One example is mentioned in the old Leoten Semper Battlefleet novels set during the 12th Black Crusade.

      I think those strike cruisers aren't your SM or Navy strike cruisers but something like Navy Destroyers. The Arbiters ' void operations are mostly custom duty so they don't need the like of navy cruisers.
      The only branch of para/military forces under Imperium were left without some sort of warships are The Guards. They just ride on Navy ships.

      Well, the one in the Leoten Semper story was compared to an Imperial mainline cruiser, so, this one was pretty much a full fledged strike cruiser. Also they don't tend to call escort vessels strike cruisers. The vessel in question was called the Inviolable Retribution, under the command of Adeptus Arbites Marshal Jamahl Byzantine.
      WH40k Lexicanum identifies the class as a Punisher Class Strike Cruiser.

      Arbites do have legitimate Strike Cruisers. They are probably built to different specifications then space marine Strike Cruisers but they are still full fledged strike cruisers built on the pattern and hull of marine’s SC

    Back in 5th edition I used the Grey Knight and Guard codexes to make an Arbites list with Coateaz various squads of henchmen, using the metal Necromunda enforcers with a squad of veteran guardsmen with shotguns in a valkyrie led by a lord commissar, an Ordo Xenos inquisitor with ALL the grenades leading crusaders with storm shields and power mauls and some Psyber mastiffs as death cult assassins in a storm raven. My centre piece unit was a kitbashed Interceptor squad mixing ravenwing parts with scout bikers.

    So, in my own game of the all guardsmen party I played a secret Korne worshipping under hive gangster who was press ganged into the guard who ended looting a set of arbit armor and tower shield with a chain axe. So, you had a already large underhive gangster with muscle augmentations beefed up further by knorne decked out in some very good armor charging at you with a chain axe basically ignoring your gun fire.

    yes the Adaptus Arbites had rules in the 3rd and 4th ed. it was only a Chapter approved artical and they only had 3 units and a character at there largest. the Big thing of the army was the Web and Riot gear. Weapons that Rolled to wound against Str or the now deleted Initiative or where poisoned (4+) and the executioner round that let you ignore all terrain and cammo type affects.
    The Army.. Stat-wise they where the same as sisters, but only Carapace Armour
    Judge/Magister. (Character)
    Arbites Squad (troops)
    Arbite Man-hunter and his ciber mut. (elites)
    Arbite Handler and the Suicide Squad, with suicide Bomber zealots.
    Razorback (Heavy Support)
    They could use Chimera transports or Rino's as a dedicated transport.

    You can give Inquisitorial Warrior Acolytes Boltguns and Boltpistols and/or Boltpistol and Power Maul. I was going to use that to represent Arbites Kill Squads.
    However, the new PDF for the Boarding Actions mentions Arbites in the Agents of the Imperium section.
    So, it's not a rumour. Its confirmed.

    You know I am having a hard time deciding if GW should have Guilliman fix the imperiums book of laws by taking out laws that were no longer in place. Because it would be a logical decision in universe (Guilliman wrote the codex Astartes I think he could write an imperial law book, and Napoleon himself fixed the confusing French laws into one napoleonic code).
    Admittedly don’t know if that would ruin the Arbites

      Its not that easy
      Roboute has an intellect that defies human comprehension but even if he could read 1 page per second he’d have to go througy literally trillions of pages of decreed after decrees and then make decisions for each individual ones
      Fixing the lex imperialis would take years that he has to spend on other projects
      And redoing it from scratch would also be similarily daunting because we’re talking about a set of law that apply to the entire imperium it can’t be half assed

    @21:10 Around here I thought about a great game: A grand strategy for scale but XCOM (original) for hunting down xenos and cultists. I could Midjourney the art and then build the mechanics (if I had the skill). Also a good way to both prototype an idea GW won't do and thumb my nose at the if it spreads.

      as a example of other frequently requested class, Commissars as a new Darktide class, it would make sense if it was a case of low ranker that did something they shouldn't have instead of a Lord Commissar rank.

    I honestly don't think you put sufficient emphasis on their role as the Imperium's armed presence on a world. Abrites are expected to overthrow the planetary governor should he go bad or just be sufficienty bad at his job, or at least hold out and resist until reinforcements can get there to throw him out.

      @@Cassandra112 Well, given how Arch pointed out in the video that there are several types of Arbiters, that could mean that it is better to have them as a new class type. Personally I think this, same for Commissars. make Commissars a new class instead of a alt class.
      as example, there are leaks that one of the alt classes would be a Squad leader for veteran, I think that this does not infringe on Commissair class.

    the incident on Hubris during Dormant (where the populace cryosleeps through the period of the planet's orbit that puts them too far from the system's star) is a rather good example where "small law-fish" has jurisdiction over the case but then "big law-fish" comes and takes over the case (in this case it kinda happens three times, the Custodians get the case taken over by the Arbites which is then taken over by Gregor Eisenhorn of the Ordo Xenos, Ordos Helican) though in this case Godwyn Fischig, a member of the Arbites, goes with the "bigger law-fish" as the "eyes and ears" of the High Custodian of Hubris...

    Arbites are really quite rare. In the Eisenhorn book Xenos there are only 2 Arbites on the entire planet you are first introduced to. Often they are seen in the writing trying to stop planetary uprisings (Vraks).
