    For hot enviroments. One can use longer stroke engine with lower rpm, higher torqe, and a big radiator , a big collector and greater oil capacity. Engine will stay at least around the collant evaporation temperature (if there is enough collant and you do not maxrev it) . The longer stroke engine gives the cilindres and pistons more time to cool sacrificing horsepower (wats, energy over time) while increasing tourqe (basically the force the engine can exert, not enough torques and the vehicle can not even get going, gearboxes solve that problem to a degree),
    Calculation for hrsprs is tourqe×rpm/5,252
    and oil capacity increases the amount of shit that needs to heat up and can have its own seperate "radiator".
    More spare parts will be needed because the engine lifespan is Mostly determined by howmany times it heated up to operating temperature and cooled back again and by how suddenly that occured. Termal expantion/contraction will over time cause warping and heatstress accumulation. Deserts tend to be preatty harsh since daytime operating temperature is preatty high and during the night it suddenly becomes quite cold (no moisture= poor heat retention) increasing the heatcycle stress. Combine that with a lot of uphill, downhill under max load with a deadline and occasional shelling on a "slippery" sandy surface and catastrophic errors can occur quite easily be it cooking the engine, a crash, tipover, blown clutches/gearboxes, or simple mechanical failure.

    The Tallarn Desert Raiders are my favorite. Their hit-and-run tactics seek to do as much damage to the enemy as possible while taking a minimum of casualties. Because Tallarn does not have billions of bodies to stuff into a meat-grinder, they at least try to use their manpower resources efficiently.
    The Tallarn prove that the Guard can be brave, cunning, and effective without being overtly suicidal.

    I like the idea of Tarlarn being ultimate desert tank force. But what they really lack in their fluff is strong Areonautica forces, at least in their PDF forces. All flexibility that they have, can't compare with ability to cover ground and destroy supply column provided by a pair of ground attack aircraft. Destroy a supply column, and desert will take largest of forces. Because tank and its crew is as good as their water and fuel gets them.

    • @Destroyer_V0
      @Destroyer_V0 8 месяцев назад

      It is unfortunate that aeronautica forces are typically reserved for the imperial navy only. Because, again. Reducing the chances of a rouge regiment having all the tools it needs to sucsessfully rebel without getting stomped by every other loyal regiment around it.

      @@Destroyer_V0 I had Tarlarn PDF in mind mostly, because many worlds field their own PDF areonautica. But yeach, combined arms as a whole is looked down upon by Munitorum, not including few select regiments. And yes, the Navy almost exclusively fields areonautica, not counting regiments like Phantine Air Corps.

    I wish you'd get back to doing Horus Heresy and the events of the 42nd millennium. I do get that you don't care for some of the newer plot developments (I disagree, but I understand your rationale), but... Respectfully, they're not leaving... And there's a lot of stuff that's happened. I'd love to see your telling of the Lion's return, for what it's worth.

    You could always run scouting forces at night to get around the heat of a desert, most deserts get pretty cold at night. You'd pretty much have to operate at night anyway if you wanted any kind of STEALTH about your actions. Keeping the sand out of the engine, axel bearings, suspension mountings etc. seems like a bigger issue imo.

    Cool strategies. Are there any examples of this force fighting outside of a desert world? It seems there tactics are heavily reliant on the attrition caused by the environment.

    34:00 Would there not be example of this type of truck from Terra it self, from the unification war era? Surely since its so close to mars lots of nice tech was to be collected including designs from desert devilling warlords and empires, specially when i recall most of the planet was already back then turned into a radioactive desert by deleverage usage of nuclear weapons? Also its not just the vehicles that are taking the beating from the heat, but weapons as well. In high heat condition your are not able to shoot many shots before having to cool down the barrel and hotter it gets, longer it needs to cool, so for hit and run type of regiment, i would suspect they have lots of las based weapons that can charge from the sun it self to limit the strain on logistics and possibly something like hot shot variant to punch trough with few shots, then get the hell out of the dodge to cool off the weapons. Mentioned plasma weapons, kinda make sense as well, though optical based weapons in general... in god damn dust box of a desert... when just one speck of dust is enough to fry our current measly powered lasers lenses. Usually you need clean room to handle anything optical like that. How the hell are they doing maintenance on the desert field conditions of all places, with very limited logistics? On plasma its simpler but way hotter. That does increase logistics via gas that used to turn into plasma, but that should not be a issue. Its more about same optics problem as with las weapons since if i recall right plasma weapons use laser to turn gas into plasma.
    Similarly would grav vehicles be far better suited to desert conditions? Then again i cant recall how noisy those are and grav field should be more easy to detect with auspects sensors, so maybe not, still might be less noisy to tank treads and allow far better mobility to tracked vehicles.

We know the regular astartes can't fill up on every voidship because they are each very valuable and need chapter serfs. How do the chaos variant go about it ?

      Presumably they pick over the carcasses of their enemies when done or make a lot of visits to their own logistical centers owned on Chaos Worlds and/or the Dark Mechanicum...though that is a hell of a logistical tail...

    A truck he says, when this is 40k, are there not hovercraft/something resembling a helicopter? Chinooks work great for cargo transport.
    If it were up to me I'd tinker with something like the old Avrocar, a large ducted fan hovercraft that is rather saucer shaped, back in the 1950s when they first cooked up the thing, thinking to have a light scout vehicle, potentially replacing the GP, or Jeep, they couldn't get it to fly properly. But with the advent of Fly-By-Wire with the development of the F117 and later the B2, both delta wing craft, well the solution for the Avrocar has been had for decades and no body has put two and two together at all, except for me.
    I think a 40k-ified variant might be cool. I mean who needs ancient Fly-By-Wire lost tech, when a Servitor should do the trick just fine, and Lasguns mounted on the thing sounds way better than a pair of M2 Browning machine guns, or perhaps a pair of anti'materiel rifles, be it the 12.7mm chambered variant, or the even better 20mm, if not something bigger because 40k years into the future if one does not take the attitude of "Go Big, or Go Home" one might not ever go home at all.

    • @boobah5643
      @boobah5643 8 месяцев назад

      I'll just point out that instability was but one of the Avrocar's problems... and unfortunately, the vehicle they did build was little more than a hovercraft that didn't wear a skirt.

    • @raumograeywolf5477
      @raumograeywolf5477 8 месяцев назад

      @boobah5643 that was then. And now, with modern advancements, maybe we can't work out all the kinks, but we could work out some. Maybe find new ones, but overall reduce the number of kinks, for a future generation to solve...
