I have been playing golf for over 40 years and have learned so much about the numbers side of golf watching your channel the last few months.. The one thing you didn't touch on in this episode- versatility of the hybrid. It is so much easier to hit out of a bad lie. It can be used for a little bump and run to carry over a sprinkler head but roll out like a putt. It is a better option for a punch shot if you have a limited backswing because of a tree or bush because it gives you more ball speed with less effort. I really enjoy all of your innovative content. Keep up the excellent work!

I so appreciate the information on this channel. Other channels seem to make the claim that if you are a better player, i.e. higher swing speed, then long irons are a better choice. I considered this simplistic view to be a disservice to many golfers. Nice work guys.

Thank you guys for this video, been struggling with my 5iron for the last 9 months, even as a good ball striker with a good swing speed the club was too damaging, just got fitted for a correctly weighted 4 & 5 hybrids and the consistency has returned and I can attack those 200 to 215 raised greens once more. Ended up with OT hybrid 100 shafts and they are spectacular, I just wish the main brands offered the heavier shafts as an option.

Guys, nice video. I really like how technical you guys are and you added the idea of a shorter shaft to the equation today. Interesting. I especially appreciated this video for its subject matter and that it was 11:34 long. I don't always watch your longer videos and this length really works and you covered the subject in enough detail. Keep it up.

A few years ago I went to a driver fitting and decided to give a hybrid a try for the heck of it. Bought both a driver and hybrid that day and am pretty sure the hybrid has made the bigger difference in my scoring. Ended up adding a 4h as well.

Fairly new to the channel, love the commentary and scientific approach to better decision making in club selections and recognizing why personalized fittings matter. Taking so much of this as I’m going through most/all of my clubs. I’ve already gone from mid 90s to low 80s over the last six months and hoping with more dialed in clubs I’ll be able to bring that down into the 70s/scratch golf

Great video. I got g410 irons last year, but only down to 6 because I hit my old 5 iron so poorly. I made do with an old 4 hybrid for a while, but just got the g410 5 hybrid last week, and holy cow, what a great club. I'm one of those "170-190 yard" 16 hc golfers but am so confident with it and hitting greens on my course that usually elude me. It just makes the game more fun.

Hey guys, great video. Thank you for validating my own decision to change out my long irons this year. I've replaced my 3 to 6 irons with 5 wood, 7 wood (love it), 5 and 6 hybrid . My 5 wood has as much carry as the 3 wood, but it doesn't roll as far, so I've got shot options there. I've found the hybrids are happier when you let them do the work vs trying to power through them. Also, I'm still able to hit draws and fades.
Because of back and knee injuries, these changes have really made the game more fun......and prettier 😊

Another great vid. I switched out the 4 iron for a 4 hybrid this year since I don't play as often and never practice. It carries about 10 yards more than the 4 iron but it's so much easier to hit in all situations. Off the tee, it's no comparison as I can stretch it out another 30 yards if I really go after it.

I live in the mountains of eastern Az and the wind blows most all the time,so keeping the flight down is very important. So after Driver & 3 wood, i have gone with Ping G410 Crossover 2iron...Stirling SL irons 4-Pw...3 Ping wedges. Even at 64 years old i have no trouble with getting the crossover airborn off the deck or holding greens with low lofted irons, and they work well in the wind. I used to play fairway woods (3-5-7) & Ping G20 irons when i lived in the Phx area, but that didn't work for me at 6300 feet in the wind. Love the channel...been with you from the start and you are only getting Better! Keep up the Great work guys!!!

This is the reason I have a 4 and 5 hybrid. Originally had Cobra F6 but switched to Titleist 818 H1s because the shafts play shorter in the Titleist than other manufacturers and are are so much easier to hit. Also super adjustable! Now I feel I have a little longer gap between the 5 hybrid and my Mizuno JPX 900 Hot Metal 6 iron.

Mine is a 22degree (4 hybrid). It can be set to +/- 1 degree on either flat or standard. It doesn’t say how flat it makes it but my guess is about 2-3 degrees since my irons are 1 degree flat and the hybrid is a touch flatter. Still love it :)

@Craig So the 4 hybrid i have in the ping looks like it sits very square to the eye and there isn’t a lot of face roll so it doesn’t look open or close. everyone’s eye is different but when I look at taylor made drivers for example they look very open to my eye. My ping hybrid looks a lot more square than my taylor made clubs (when set on the flat setting for ping) hope that helps.

Excellent video again gents. I have removed my 4 and 5 irons from my set. I've replaced them with a 7 wood. Got my gapping pretty bang on for me. 6 iron is 26° may is wood is sitting at 22°. Driver 10.5, 3 wood 15, 5 wood 18.5 and then my 22°. Can't get on with hybrids at all but play my woods very well. Wonderful graph at 8.28. Great video.
My 6-iron is lofted 28 or 29 degrees. My 5-iron is 24 degrees. And, it is here that I will struggle and it is here I am in some club/clubs decision making process. I can hit my 24 degrees club but it is very inconsistent. Great and long shots ducking the wind or … it flies 3 yards above the ground and rolls for 70 yards.
With my hybrid I get a much more comfortable hit … but it may be too high if it is too windy. But, it is an old rescue - when it was named rescue before called hybrid. And, it is an old rescue. It gets the job done. Love it.
but - I am off distances at the moment.

Do you find that some people just have trouble hitting hybrids generally? It seems I’m fighting constant toe hooks with it and don’t have that issue as often with a 4-iron... it seems obvious I’d benefit from using a hybrid or two (I carry a 4-iron about 205) but I have such a hard time middling them 😞

Replaced my 3 and 4 iron ten years ago with 3h and 5h. A slightly bigger gap between them than I’d like but they make longer par 3s and 4s a lot easier, especially if I miss fairways. Also great for 2nd shot when playing par 5s in regulation instead of trying to hit the 1 in 10 shot with 3 wood. Due for a complete bag overhaul this year and expect to be carrying a 16-18* fairway and 2 hybrids around 21 and 25.

Great video again. I don't post many reactions because most off the time somebody else says the same as I would have. But this time I would encourage everbody to try more hybrids. I use Mizuno CLK (2018 model) 2H (set at 14 degree) en 4H (set at 22 degree). Before I had the Mizuno MP18 Fli hi 2 and 3 iron, great off the tee but more difficult from the fairway. The hybrids are also more versatile, and if I want more out of the hybrid its easier to control. I definitly go try shorter shaft in my hybrids. Think to put the 4H shaft in de 2H and look for a 5H shaft with the same profile. By the way the new CLK 2020 is even better and easier to hit (I tried them with Trackman), but my wallet is the problem

Very solid video. Curious how the hollow bodied irons would fair in this comparison...ie mizuno hmb, ping crossovers, etc

Another amazing video. The next question - where should average golfers switch from hybrids to irons?

I pulled my Titleist AP1 3I and replaced it with a Cobra 3H. I can still get it done with the 3I however I can tell that the time has come.

I am going for a hybrid instead of a driving iron. I am also going to get a 4 hybrid as well. Go video boys!

I’d love to see y’all demo the Mizuno JPX Fli Hi Hybrids. They come at iron length.

finally subscribed , thanks for the education on so many things.
not sure if the feeling from puring a hybrid would give me the same pleasure of doing that to an iron, even if its a rare occasion. :D
Would love to hit that G(h)OST Shaft sometime soon though.

Good video. Only dislike on hybrids is the low punch shot out of trees and fairway finders off the tee. I think a day may come where a 21 degree hybrid may be paired with a 21 degree driving iron. Use the iron for safety off the tee and low shots and hybrid into green. That 220ish yard shot is so important to scoring it may be more important to carry 2 clubs for it and remove a wedge. The shorter shaft may fix the punch shot issues however

I play 3 and 4 hybrid. Might swap out the 3h on windy links and sub in the Deuce HMB but exception rather than the rule. Would always keep the 4H in the bag as I use it around the greens quite often for chip and run shots from the fringe.

Great work guys! Im wondering how the ping g410 17 deg hybrid compares to the 17 deg fairway... and who would benefit from each. Thanks!!

I actually just took out my hybrid and put in an MMC fli hi 4 iron it’s way more consistent in direction, don’t know what it is but I don’t seem to be able to aim a hybrid but I love my st 180 3 and 5 woods.

I recently swapped my 3i (mp5) for the CLK 19deg, took a few rounds to figure it out I was sweeping in like a fwy wood but once I got a better angle on it I'm 100% sold. My very best strike with 3i off a perfect lie is maybe as good as average from the CLK, forget it from the thick stuff. Having 220 in the bag CONFIDENTLY is a game changer. 4i better watch his back and may be relegated to windy days.

Have you thought about reviewing the Tour Edge EXS Pro Forged and EXS Blade irons and EXS Blade wedges?

Awesome video! This is the part of my bag I am really struggling with. I have kept my 3 iron in play because I can flight it down better we play in a lot of wind here where I live. I feel my hybrid is too long and I hit big draws and hooks with it. I have a titleist 915 HD 20.5. Could I theoretically just order a shaft for a 4 hybrid and use that instead of their stock 3 hybrid one? Would that be a problem with keeping swing weight around D3 without needing to add weight to the head?
