  • PART 2: • How to go to a Metal C...
    Some tips I've picked up along the way - how I go to concerts! I know, weird time to post something like this, right? BUT there are several concerts SCHEDULED in this year so let's just go ahead and assume they are happening.
    (Honestly I feel so vulnerable after getting so personal in my last video I wanted to upload something new quickly to cover it up! haha. 😅)

    i just turned 21 in may and i've never been to a concert before in my life because i have no one to go with me. i've realized that i shouldn't let opportunities pass me by just because i was waiting on somebody else. i'm going alone and maybe that's a bad idea but i don't care. i just want to go and have fun. i love metal to the core so this video reassures me and gave me helpful advice. thank you so much Katie :)

      YEEESSS! It's not a bad idea, just look after yourself and be safe! You should be very safe at the venue. But if you have to do any walking, here's what I like to do. I look for a group of people who looks like they're headed to whatever I'm heading to and ask if I can just walk with them. I'm glad I could help! It can be lonely being a solitary metalhead so I feel ya.

    Winter cold tip my friends: absolutely make sure your torso and legs are covered. As long as your back and feet are protected you will maintain sufficient body heat while walking to the venue or brief periods in the smoking section. As soon as you get to your car, layer up and blast the heat. This is from years of experience. Don't get sick this winter after a brutal show it is no fun!

We'd wear black stockings with our pull up leggings slightly above the knee and high heel boots under our very very short leather mini skirts or super tight stretching minii skirts.We were all very slim. Then the leather black spiked jewelry and belts everywhere . Oh and lots of big hair and lots make up. I'm going alone to a Ghost concert next month and I'm EXTREMELY worried about the bathroom situation...
    I wanna get a good spot as close to the stage as possible, but waiting for like 3 hours on the queue + 4-5 hours of concert... Yeah...
    Anyone got tips on what to do? :(

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  2 года назад +7

      Hey! Okay so I am a person who has to go to the bathroom a LOT. but something I've noticed is that when I'm spending the day standing, I don't have to go nearly as often as I do when I spend the day sitting. I know that might not be the case for you but I just wanted to throw that out there. Are you going with someone? That usually helps because someone can kind of "hold your spot" if you have to go off to go to the bathroom. Just remember to be flexible and do what you have to do. If you end up losing your spot close to the stage because you had to go to the bathroom, it's all good - you have to take care of yourself! You're still at the concert, and you gotta make the best of your view wherever it might be :) I often will spend the first part of a concert up close and then over time I'll pull back to chill a bit more. I hope I helped answer that question a bit! Don't stress too much, and don't be afraid to ask for help or ask for someone to hold your spot etc. The bathroom situation has always managed to work out for me!

      @KatieoftheNight  2 года назад +4

      @@peachmic4875 Hey, sorry it took me a while to get back! my notifs are being weird. Okay so since you're going alone and it's your first ever, just consider this an introduction - youre kinda feeling out this process and this culture and getting an idea of how everything is going to go, and it'll definitely help you learn the ropes for future concerts!
      Last time I went to a concert alone, I was focused on -knowing what the venue looks like, -getting in there safe, -where are the bathrooms, and -can i see and can i hear the show! and it went great.
      In terms of socializing, people usually keep to themselves. It's not that they aren't friendly when addressed, but it kinda has an "airport" vibe where people just mind their own business. But people are usually aware of who is standing around them, and may let you return to where you were standing before if you had to step away for a minute :)

    Thanks for this! I'm 16 and hopefully I'll be seeing lamb of god later on this year as my first ever show. they're one of the best. one thing though, as you mentioned, I know people say dont wear the shirt of the band you're seeing, but ive always wondered why not? is there any specific reason behind this? I dont know why people care about a piece of clothing so much

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  2 года назад +6

      Heck yeah!! Congrats on the first show! that'll be badass. So the band shirt thing has been a long standing "rule" that has morphed into a joke. but I think at the root of it, people say you wouldn't wear a Lamb of God shirt to a Lamb of God show because it's redundant - everyone knows you like Lamb of God already because you're there! People see a concert as an opportunity to demonstrate what other bands you're into by wearing a different band shirt. It might be a band shirt of a band that is complimentary/in the same genre as the band you're seeing. Like at this Lamb of God show you might see some Meshuggah shirts. omg lol it sounds so silly. Trust me, there are always gonna be people at every concert wearing the shirt of the band they're seeing.
      I actually think this video from Two Minutes to Late Midnight has quite a funny commentary on the subject, if you're interested:

      @@KatieoftheNight Ohh thank you so much! yeah i mean i can sorta understand that, wearing another shirt may spark a friendship between that band on your shirt as well as lamb of god for example. i’ll have a look at that video thank you so much. also i’m not sure if you wear glasses so i don’t know if you’ll be able to answer this, but i’m a full time glasses wearer - i’m genuinely blind without them, so i cant really not wear them as i won’t be able to see anything. it’s pretty dangerous. people say entering the pit with glasses is the worst thing you could do, even if they’re in my pocket i know they’re bound to break. would you say wearing contact lenses should be okay? but then again, they could fall out of my eye for example i don’t know how but they can if i’m squinting and moving around a lot. :/ i don’t know if i’ll be allowed in the pit as i’m 16, but if i am, i don’t know if i’ll be able to deal with it. i’m a teenage 5’4 female but i’d like to participate! maybe i’ll wait til i’m a little older though.
      sorry for all these questions, but i’ve never been to live music venue so i’m pretty much clueless on how it’s like. i appreciate your help :) 🤘🏼

      @KatieoftheNight  2 года назад +1

      @@sx4fa Sorry I'm getting back to you a bit late, my notifs are messed up! lol. Yeah they are right about glasses. Actually anything breakable in your pockets is a bad idea, I'm not sure what people do with their phones these days when in the pit! lol. I think contacts would be fine, but I don't wear glasses or contacts myself.
      I do wanna say that if you want to get into the action but don't wanna go fully into the pit, you can stand on the "outer rim" of it and help push people back in towards the center! That's kinda fun and you don't necessarily get knocked around as much.

    • @sx4fa
      @sx4fa Год назад

      Hey!! been a while since my last message, the concerts next week gosh it was such a long long wait!! I just have one last question, what would be the safest place in the crowd? I don’t wanna be too close to the mosh pit, but i’m also short so i don’t wanna be at the back lol! would the front be quite safe? i’m not too sure!!

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  Год назад +1

      @@sx4fa OOOOH almost there!! Congrats! I'm not really the most aggressive concert goer so I tend to hang off to the side or more towards the back. I also find myself usually near a pillar/column if there are any in the venue. (But that usually means I'm next to the trash can too. lol.) It's hard to know how big the mosh area will become, so sometimes you kinda just have to feel things out and see how the crowd behaves before you choose your standing spot. Even if you're short, you should be able to find a place where you can see at least between tall people's heads. lol. Another thing I will do is if i'm really into it, I'll try to be closer to the front for a while until I get tired, then I'll pull back towards the back. people do move around a lot/change spots. Hope this helps! have a blast! 🤘

      Yay!! I'm excited for you. Moshing can be dangerous, but no one intentionally wants to hurt people. You can kinda watch the moshing get started and see how things play out, and decide from there if you want to jump in. Another good option is to be that first layer of nonmoshers, so standing at the edge of the pit, basically the circle of standers that form around the pit. From there you can shove people back into the pit without being fully immersed in it! So you're like, halfway involved, lol. I hope you have fun!!

    Good advice! Metal shows are the thing I enjoy the most in life! They sometimes get violent but even then it’s so much fun. The most violent show I’ve been to so far is Carnifex. I was just getting into metal at the time and I had only been in a few rock mosh pits up to that point so young me thought it was a good idea to get in the pit right away. Long story short I got a deviated septum and almost got knocked out when a bunch of people started swinging but overall that was the most fun I’d ever had at a show up to that point. Even though I left that show bruised and bloody from head to toe. I’ve been hooked ever since! I am definitely nervous about seeing knocked loose in a couple months 😬. I’m definitely going to stay out of the pit for them

    Im going to bad omens in September and it’ll be my first metal concert, I’ve been to concerts before but only seats so this time I’ll be in the pit. I’m just nervous bc I already tend to get very anxious in an enviorment like that but I want to have the best time bc it’s a band I truly love! I’m also worried about standing the entire time, I don’t want to accidentally lock my knees or anything lol.

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  Год назад

      Yay!! It's okay to be nervous, that will most likely fade away when you're actually there, you'll be filled with excitement instead! Standing the entire time does sometimes suck, but if I need a break, I will go off to the side with maybe a wall or a column I can lean against. Plus if you're caught up in the excitement you may not even know your feet are hurting. But yeah if the pit area feels too intense or unpredictable at any point, you can move off to the side or the back for that reason too. The pit shouldn't be fully encompassing the standing area, so you should have options. Just remember to focus on the band, the music, and don't let other people annoy you or make you nervous! I hope you have a blast!

      Why don’t you think the band shirts would look good? Sounds like it fits the dress code! And glasses shouldn’t be a problem as long as you’re not in a freestanding area where people are shoving!

    Heey! Absolute metal newbie here. I'm going to go to a Dream Theater concert in December (southern hemisphere) and as I'm autistic, I am a little worried. I know my boyfriend is gonna be there, but I'm a little afraid to be overwhelmed. Any tips for auties?

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi!! Well you won't know if concerts are for you until you go to one. Is this going to be stadium seating or free-standing? the good news is that most venues have a space you can go if you need a breather, such as a porch or some other separate room. You might also find that you prefer to stand more towards the back or along a wall if the crowd is too stimulating for you. I sometimes feel overwhelmed when I'm going to a concert, but once I'm in there and the music starts, I tend to relax a lot :) I hope this helps as I'm not autistic so I can't speak from experience, but let me know if you have any more questions!

    • @yunamchill9169
      @yunamchill9169 2 месяца назад

      @KatieoftheNight Hi, thank you for your reply. It's going to be a stadium seating and my bf explained that we're going to sit to the side, so the music hopefully won't be as loud. I'm also definitely going to take my earplugs plus headphones with me just in case. It's also not hard metal, but progressive metal, so there's going to be a mix of gentler songs and heavier songs. So I hope I'll enjoy it.

    Hi, so i might be going to a Ghost concert in august and ik its a long time from now but im just really worried about it already like just thinking about it makes me nauseous just thinking about it Im probably getting tickets to get in the pit area so I was wondering if you had any tips about that? My main questions are, How early should I get there to get a good spot, and I have a feeling the second I get into my spot Im going to have to go to the bathroom, so what would I do?

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  Год назад +1

      Hey!!! Oh I know it's easy to worry but DON'T! It's gonna be great! I haven't seen Ghost myself but I know they're really popular. Even so I don't think you need to worry about getting there early. Assuming there will be opening bands, the crowd usually dissipates in between those bands so you'll have a chance to move up while Ghost is setting up. But if you want a good position for all the bands, getting there within that first hour after doors open is great. If this is a free-standing show, the crowd is always kind of moving and shifting so you should be able to wiggle your way out and back in later. People are leaving to go to the bathroom or get drinks all throughout a show, so think of it as very flexible seating. And if you do end up losing your best spot, don't worry about it too much, just focus on what you can see and hear wherever you are! You can kinda make a deal with yourself, like "as long as i get to see 3 songs close up before I go to the bathroom, it's worth it!" I hope this helps!!
