    Moshers: keep your elbows down and don't windmill. I can't tell you how many drunken mosh fights I've seen break out because one guy got too aggressive or someone was flailing their arms around. You can tell the energy and general vibe of how things will be done once it starts, circle and push pits are common.

    From my experience metal concerts are some of the safer concerts you can go to as far as how people treat each other. If some starts yelling just say your sorry and try backing off. If other fans see your willing to defuse the situation they'll generally help make sure both parties are separated. As far as mosh pit safety goes its easy. If a pit starts forming and your not intrested in joining just say something like "I'm out" while motioning away from the pit and people will help you get clear. If your "in" then avoid wearing sharp objects or make contact with anyone's head. If someone goes down and you can't help them up yell for people to know there's a man down. If you find any flying items you can't verify the owner bring it to security and tell them the general area you found it. If you start falling or otherwise get sent flying angle yourself so you hit with you upper arm and never with your hands. And if you can remember try to exhale before you hit the ground. If you have to much air in your lungs it will increase the pain you feel on impact plus raise the chances of getting knocked out. I was in the pit at and Exudus concert when me knee gave out right as someone rammed me. I went flying out of the pit plowing into several people. My glasses and wallet went flying. People were already figuring out how to get me to safety before I hit the ground. And my glasses, wallet and the money that feel out were all returned to me by the time I left. And I would personally avoid steel toe boots if your going to crowd surf. A long time ago I had a situation were I accidentally kicked someone in the face while wearing steel toes because my leg didn't move like I expected it to. It was really scary because the person was temporarily blinded in one eye for a good 30 minutes afterwards.

    “Try not to be louder than the band”. I like to sing along and love when everyone in the crowd is singing along too but always feel self conscious about doing it. I dont want to annoy other people but I also want to participate and have fun! Its also a strange feeling when you seem to be the only person who knows the lyrics at the opener and nobody else is singing… I think that line of not being louder than the band is the key. I think we have all experienced that drunk person who is just yelling the lyrics who doesnt know when to bring it down a notch. Its a fine line but Ill try to remember that phrase in the future. Of course it helps to be closer to the front!

    in my experience, a good small move to enjoy the concert, is to get in touch with the people around you. so you got feeling for those guys and a personal contact makes much reduce to stress out moments.
    i like, you pointed out fun and mostly safe spot to be

    Tbh I agree with the most of this however lots of people will be genuinely jumping around and head banging, that’s the whole atmosphere that makes the gig, those people aren’t “rude” but if you feel disturbed by them then just stand at the back

    I’m seeing Sepultura/Obituary soon, and I’m a bit small. Do you have any recommendations as to where I should stand that’s not in the back, as the entire venue is GA/standing. I want to be able to see the stage, but I don’t want to risk being crushed. Also, do you have any earplug recommendations? :)

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  5 дней назад

      Since it's GA standing you should be able to move around and find the perfect spot for you. It may involve kind of standing so you can see between two tall people's heads lol. Obituary is AWESOME live, you're gonna love it! As for earplugs, I've always just bought pretty standard ones, but they do make smaller ones often marketed as 'womens' earplugs.

    I’m going with my uncle in about a week to a Korn concert. I have pretty bad anxiety, would anyone potentially have tips for that, or does the music sort of just drown out the anxiety once you’re at the concert?

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  22 дня назад

      I personally find that once the music starts, you're so invested and excited that the anxiety doesn't matter anymore! But also if you find yourself overstimulated, there's usually some sort of space you can go to take a break!

    I was wondering is there a thing called "barrier hogging", like standing at the barrier too long? cuz this guy told me and the dude next to me that we were there to long (I was at the barrier for like 2 or 3 songs and I believe that the dude next to me was there even longer than I was before I went to the barrier) and we have to move, and I was wondering if it's an unspoken rule to not be at the barrier too long?

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  Год назад +4

      This is an excellent question, and one I don't know the answer to! Most of the shows I've been to are small -- too small for barriers even!? and I'm not a front row kinda girl so I don't have experience with that. But most of the time, anyone who is up at the front, usually stays here, as is their right. But it's not a rule that I've ever heard of! Honestly I'm not sure how hogging a barrier could be regulated so it kinda sounds to me like that person was just trying to get you to let them 'have a turn'. But hopefully someone can comment on this in the future if they have more info!

    How do i get very close to the stage? Cause i really wanna see oli sykes up close

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  9 месяцев назад +3

      I’d say get there early! Also, if there are opening bands, a lot of time the crowd will disperse a little between bands so that’s another good opportunity to move up. I have no idea how big ur show is gonna be but, you’ll notice little empty pockets in the crowd that you can keep moving into to make your way up front! It also helps to like nod/be friendly to the people around you so they’ll be willing to adjust for you.

      @@LionelTheGoalie12 oh right, the mosh pits might make it complicated to get up front! Haha. There is usually a cluster of people right up against the stage who aren’t moshing if you can make it up there! I do think bmth is probably pretty big but idk!
      Well that’s awesome, I went to my first concert with my dad too! We ended up being about midway back, pretty much the first layer that wasn’t moshing.

    People who hold up signs at concerts that are not on an inclined floor especially (all flat) deserve to be cursed idc it’s so much more rude than holding up phones to short/normal people behind you who aren’t maniacs that would wait hours to be at the front
    You’re literally obstructing someone’s view b/c you want to stand out for attn instead of just enjoy the show-at someone else’s expense
    It would be another thing if there’s a balcony & incline at the venue but this etiquette is not discussed enough (think back to vintage footage of Woodstock festivals…nobody had a sign, nobody had main character syndrome, they were just there to vibe/for the music, not a brief flash of clout or attention)
    If someone is crowd surfing are they gonna run into your sign? People bring signs but when the crowd needs awareness they duck under surfers and don’t pick up people who fall
    Crowd surging is actually chaotic because bouncers oversell capacity under the table to make extra money (2 years post-pandemic out of a job playing catch up plus they probably aren’t getting paid enough) & crowd surging happens only when capacity is oversold. Moshing only looks chaotic but is not as there is an etiquette. Some security at venues won’t even pick up surfers at the front acting like they don’t get paid enough for it. There’s greed at every level that affects a concert going experience especially when you’re looking at Live Nation type companies, who seek every opportunity to increase profit margins. People who don’t know how to act and be considerate are just adding post-pandemic lack of etiquette fire to that fuel
    “Artists” who support such behavior just like the ego strokes. If people are holding up signs it’s just not a metal show any more lol when tf did metal fans ever hold up signs 🪧?

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  Год назад +2

      wow, great point about the signs!! i honestly have never even seen a sign at a metal show so i didn't even think about it!
