- ALL NEW C Class review by The Straight Pipes. The 2022 Mercedes C300 is putting down 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque from a 2.0L Turbo 4 Cyl with a 48V mild hybrid. At $60,365 CAD, would you take it over an Audi, BMW, S-Class, or Cadillac? Maybe a Buick??

what , GARBAGE . the C300 is an OUTDATED gas car , nobody wants anymore.
Portland, JAMAICA in the Building !!!!!!!
Can you guys review a V60 Recharge??
fun fact , this c class isn't a complete re-design. Its actually just a really really refreshed 2015-2021 gen c class. Its like what lexus did with the 2021 lexus IS350 and is500
You guys suck back to Thomas and James
I still don't understand how they ban cell phones because they say it's a giant distraction, yet it's fine to stick a huge tablet in a car.
It is more like - how they are allowed to make infotainment this way, because it’s just as distracting as phones.
yup, complete bullshit, same thing.
❤️ ❤️ ❤️ 👏👏👏👏. Been saying this for years. There’s like 7000 options to adjust in these systems. I haven’t seen any such restrictions against eating, drinking (nonalcoholic), dancing, putting on makeup, shaving or any host of the things you see on your daily commutes. But a cell 📱, DEFCON 1.
You’re right, but then you’re not going to be able to check Insta / Twitter / Watch a video. But yeah… I’d choose the old school knobs and buttons over this any day.
Its a waste of tax payer money to pass that law. But i do get where theyre coming from. They dont want you to text and drive is their main concern. But…… having to scroll thru the ipad to change aircon settings isnt any better than texting
Man, this review started off so excited and then just fizzled. And I appreciate that! It's honest. Reviewers sometimes forget that not every car is worth getting excited about.
I'm with Yuri on the brake pedal being a dealbreaker. It doesn't matter how good everything else is. If the most basic driver inputs are poorly tuned, it will annoy you. With cars this expensive, I can't comprehend why they get put into production with absolutely terrible driver inputs, steering and brakes especially. If Honda can figure out how to make electric brake boosters that feel natural, I don't see why Mercedes can't.
Yup
Modern Hondas have the worst brake feel of any brand I test drive. My gfs moms Cr-v, my buddy’s manual civic hatchback and other newer Hondas all had the most unnecessarily aggressive initial bite and I had to feather the brake so carefully just to get normal gradual braking.
@@mauriciogarcia4190 how modern? I've gone from 2018 civic to camry to bmw to 2018 accord again in the last 4 years and I actually do remember initially braking too hard after driving another car, but you get used to it within 2 or 3 red lights
@@uppernoth both vehicles were 2018-2019. I guess most people do get used to it and I didn’t have extended time driving either one but that initial sensation really threw me off. It’s one of those bad first impressions that you know isn’t really that bad but it still bothers you regardless
@@mauriciogarcia4190 The aggressive initial bite is pretty characteristic of modern Hondas, and is likely there so even the most limp legged people can apply full braking pressure. It's the ability to modulate and come to a smooth stop that makes the difference. I can do that in any modern Honda without much trouble. Drive a newer Alfa Romeo and you will be appalled by the horrific brake by wire system that makes stop and go traffic a nightmare.
I own a C300 and a Mazda MX-5. I give that as a reference that I appreciate fun handling. You even had the AMG version with the firmer suspension than I own. The C300 is not a sports sedan. It is a fantastic luxury sedan. If you want nimble reflexes and sports car handling, this is not the car. It still does have German well dampened and tight suspension, but you pass over imperfections in quiet luxury. Not too isolating or too floaty, but also not too involved that you can't relax. The brake pedal hasn't been something that has bothered me at all. It is very pleasant to drive, has all the pickup needed and gets good gas milage.
Honest C300 review! Thank you for mentioning the brake, that was one deal breaker for us. The interior materials felt really cheap for how much this car costs but the interior design looks fantastic otherwise. One nice thing they did was that the mild hybrid doubles as a twin turbo to get rid of that turbo lag. The biggest deal breaker for us was that the car felt like it was breaking down during our test drive. Between shakey sport mode and the crappy breaks, we were honestly worried we wouldn't make it back to the dealership. At one point there was a crunching sound coming from the underside of the car. We kept our GV70 reservation, still waiting and 9 months late. For us, it was the GV70, G70, 330i, C300 in that order. For the midsized, we got the G80 but the E450 was an awesome car but a bit pricey. Price/reliability aside, I would say E450, A7, G80, A6, and i540. We test drove a brand new A7 for 15 minutes and the check engine light turned on. It went right back to the dealership.
Funny thing is, I took a c300 for a test drive about a few weeks ago. And as soon as I left the lot the check engine light came on. Couldn’t adjust anything on the gauge cluster or do anything in the infotainment during the whole test drive. So I completely agree with you saying you felt like it was “breaking down” Definitely not going with this generation. LOL
Edit: also, the first thing I noticed was how terrible the breaks felt. Right before this I test drove a GLB35 AMG and that car felt like a S class in comparison to the new c300. I couldn’t drive the c300 smooth for the life of me, I felt like a brand new driver again.
How reliable is the G80? Does the interior rattle?
@@Mikroserr Super solid IMO. The 3.3T model is *fast* and the interior is great. You get a good mix of tech and comfort. Seats are bolstered too, feels nice.
@@Mikroserr my G80 is a 3.5T 2021 model. It is extremely solid, higher build quality than the A6/A7 IMO. No issues in the 14 months that I have owned it. I was worried about it being a first year redesign but Genesis had a great warranty and they have been ranked highest in quality over all other luxury brands. The car is absolutely amazing, my only gripe is that it has more body roll than I would like but it is a large sedan. I dont think there is another ICE car on the market that I would be happier with. The only thing A6/A7 did better is that they were punchier under 70MPH due to the 48V mild hybrid but lost most of their power at higher speeds where the G80 kept pushing. The thing I liked more about the E450 is the interior and the engine's dynamic range but if you got a G80 2022 3.5T with sport plus mode, that would narrow the gap considerably. Neither of those two items were worth an additional 15k to me, especially when the G80 was as good or better in most other categories.
Lol just admit the fact that you are too picky
I’m a big Benz fan however I totally agree with the point you bring up that brands like Mercedes are trying to pinch you for money. We need to put more type of shaming or pressure on Mercedes to get more features standard
And Mercedes used to be the best, you pretty much always got a lot of options included on a Benz unlike bmw.
Just want to say, been watching since a couple hundred thousand subs. So happy to see your success you guys are awesome. 🎉💯
I’m surprised that it doesn’t have adaptive cruise control considering base model Civic’s and Corolla’s at 21K has them
It did have the distance setting buttons tho didn't it?
Edit: at 10:54, the steering wheel has Set +/-, as well as arrows. These arrows on most vehicles are for distance (for example they are on our F150), I am unsure if Mercedes makes them differently-looking, but it looked like distance setting to me.
I agree with you. The way they look at it is based on customer behavior. In more luxurious cars the buyer is more likely to focus on specification as a matter of competing with others, meaning they will be more willing to pay more to say they have more, on top of the car itself just being nice to begin with; ego pays more to say it has more. Where as someone who is going after a civic or corolla is buying a car that competes to pack in as much as possible for a competitive price. They know these buyers want the most for their money because every penny counts, where as the buyer for high end cars is less concerned with their pennies and more concerned with spec competing. At least this is what ive gathered from being on both ends of the financial spectrum in my car ownership/purchasing history.
Doesn't suprise me at all ... its just what luxury car makers do.
@@heinrichdude the same with hotels, the more expensive the hotel the more you have to pay for things that are included in cheaper hotels (Country inn & suites, Hampton, Embassy) such as wifi, breakfast, parking etc. Go to a Hilton or Ritz and they charge you through the nose for these things
Are you stupid a S class has a 10x better interior then this looks like a spaceship inside
I really liked the close-up shots of this video. And the end back and forth was hilarious. Great video guys.
This is the exact same strategy they used for the last gen. S Class first, then trickle down aspects of the exterior and interior to the entry level to seem like a “value”. Good trick.
But it ain't working.
Bmw has the same interior for every car from a 2 series to an 8 series and it's so boring... at least mercedes has some variations
Thats how it works since decades with every brand. Absolutely nothing new
Nope. Most people buy the C-Class because they like the form factor, not because they are going for a budget S-Class. Idk why people can't seem to grasp this concept.
Picked up the C300 a few weeks ago and thus far it's been a pleasure to drive both around town and long distances. The brakes did take getting used to but wasn't a deal breaker. Overall the user experience and drive quality is what I expected from a MB. I test drove the Audi A4 after the C300 and it felt like a car from a bygone era with all analog controls and outdated displays.
Exactly same thing here, I got mine back in August, you have to take your time with the breaks, but yes, not a deal breaker.
Yup been having since july and the breaks are perfect.these people just can’t drive
I learned how to drive in an early Lincoln hybrid which has a similar issue with brake feeling
The fact that all Mercedes are starting to look just alike takes the thrill out of getting them. The S-Class use to be the dream. But most ppl wouldn’t know the difference between this c-class, CLA or S-Class. The price isn’t even remotely justifiable anymore. Especially when most car manufacturers are coming almost fully loaded as standard.
People say you can’t tell the difference, but you can. When you see a new gen S Class in person it still has the S-Class presence. You have to see them in person and not in youtube videos because they don’t do it justice.
S-class isn't for you and me. It's for people with loads of money who want the finest
lmao...there are heck differences from A class to S class.
Who tf is coming fully loaded as standard? Every manufacturer has trim options lol. Its funny to me people cross shopping this with a kia then complaining about not as much value 😂
Have you seen the S-class? It makes the C-class look like a Corolla. There’s a hec of difference between the 2. Smh
Still annoyed that you can only get a bonnet mourned Star on the S Class only in the UK. I really miss the old Grilles and star like on my W204.
I quite like this car. Test drove it two times now. The brakes do feel very soft, but I have no problem braking smoothly. Actually, it seems very smooth to brake. Doesn't change the pressure on me either.
I was surprised at how much I liked the interior as well. I normally shut down and hate a car as soon as I see the giant iPad, but it seems to be done very well. I like it better than the Tesla Model 3's interior user interface, at least.
I do think I like the Audi A4 interior a little better, and I think the G70 handles and steers better. But it feels dramatic, has decent space, and the base sound system is the best in all the ones I've tested.
Slightly older Audi style rotary knob + touch screen is the ideal infotainment. I don't know what is so hard for car companies to get about this. When you're driving you don't want to have to actively stare at a screen that you're trying to hit while you bounce around from road imperfections = rotary knob which you can learn to at least partially navigate without having to look at the screen + gives you stable, definite input while you're bouncing around.
Do the brake pedals on all the newer Mercedes feel like this? Or is it just the C so far that you guys have tested?
Just the C felt like this, but the S felt weird in a different way and the EQS was super weird because the brake pedal moved on its own lol
So sad
@@TheStraightPipes The service advisor told me about the spongy brake on my loaner C300. I turned off the regenerative braking straight away. It made it more bearable.
@@y2kdiseasecan you explain more/how?
@@rayandhulimi8035 from what I remember you go deep into the MBUX menu and minimise/turn off the regenerative braking. I dont know if it saves the preference against your MBUX profile, but the braking basically turned into a normal brake without charging the battery. But it was still a harsh braking car because of the thin tyres and massive wheels that the loan car was specced with
Hey guys, I enjoyed watching your video, I just came to tell that in Mercedes cars it's a good thing to invest in massage extra for the seats. They are very useful for long trips cuz your muscles may not move, which might give the sensation of unconfort. With the massage seats the muscles move and you might feel more confortable.
The era of "same design in different sizes" came back. The mini S-Class.
It honestly doesn't matter anymore. You can go for a C class as well as S class. On the highway they literally look the same. Even as a car guy I really can't tell.
Disgusting
@@TermlessHGW like my C class more than S class tbh. Only thing they got better is front grille.
@@TermlessHGW and engine obviously
@@TermlessHGW that’s so far from the truth. You’re clearly the antithesis of a car guy if you can’t tell the difference. The s class is literally half a foot wider and 2 feet longer, it has A LOT of road presence. And it’s a gorgeous timeless design.
Hahahha the real estate agent aspirations that was hilarious and the condo listing 😂😂😂
I think complaints about the break petal and infotainment are overblown. You might notice those things when you’re test driving cars for your job, but if you own the car, you get use to all those things really quick.
How are the brakes really tho?
Why should I have to “get used to” a crappy design when I’m paying $50-$90k for a new car?
@@seansweeney873 you don’t “have to” do anything. I like the car and that’s why I ordered one. The point is that if you buy a car you will quickly get used to things like the infotainment functionality. Also I bought one with every option and it was $62,000. No where near $90,000.
@@amateuroverlord8007 that’s fair. My $90k reference was to the upcoming AMG treatment of the C-Class.
You missed the point. LOL
Let's just buy everything at high price and get used to it
Who remembers when the C-class was the baby Benz
Yeah it was the one which wasnt called c class it was called 190
Well, a and b class production is ending so basically c is the new entry
@@ode1854 nah the cla is the entry now
@@ode1854 maybe in the US. In Europe the A class is the best selling Mercedes
Mercedes is trash.
I still love the Cla and E class style infotainment
When you're driving around in cars costing well north of $100,000 CAD every other day how can you not become jaded? This review is Exhibit A that you have.
I love the design of the car as I said in the previous muscle car video I really love the German braand good you know I just like to just relax and drive no ripping it i am in a point in life where I just wanna relax like you know comfy relaxing benz drive good work
There’s actually a 4 cylinder turbo gas model of G wagon called G350 in some markets like China and Europe. It’s crazy
The first video of the straight pipes was with the S205/w205 wagon back on the day.
Hi team TheStraightPipes, I love watching your videos. In most cars you say launch control, brake boosters and etc things in the beginning but i really do not know what are those. So if you can just make a video about all those type of features so people like me can have a better idea. Just a suggestion not a mandatory thing.
But above all you are doing really good. I love your videos.
Some cars have launch control. Typically turbo or supercharged, but even Naturally Aspirated and Electric sometimes have it. Basically you mash the brake and mash the gas. The car, if programmed with it, says launch control. The rpms stay at a constant rpm and if it has forced induction it builds boost. You let go of the brake and you get launched. Brake boost is the same thing, you pre torque the engine so it's not leaving from idle rpm. But it's not an official launch control so it's less effective. Sometimes it's even worse than just mashing the gas from idle
@@TheStraightPipes thank you so much. Now i can understand even better by watching your videos. I didn’t expected a reply but you guys made my day. Cheers👍🏻
I just gotten a new 2023 Audi A3 which also features a 48V MHEV system, and the first 1/3 brake pedal is definitely more artificial which I chalk down to the regen brake, but a week in later and I largely can smoothly brake to a stop. It does feel annoying at first, but seeing the engine shut off even at highway speeds & averaging close to 7.4L/100km even with quattro AWD makes it totally worth it.
I'm genuinely curious as to how Mercedes has implemented and tuned their 48V MHEV that is causing such abrupt stops here.
amazing video and great review. teşekkürler
great video! it's a shame about the negatives, especially since the exterior is so handsome. but its important to know! thanks
In 20 years, you guys will love this .
Shout out to Yuri's video game reference about this cars brakes ! The video game you're talking about was called "marble madness". Fun and addictive game that was indeed also maddening.
Great videos!
If Mercedes wanted to do smaller engines for emissions and regulations purposes they could at least have done a 5 cylinder engine for their amg 63 models. 5 cylinders still sound good. The theater and drama is half the fun of owning an AMG.
High development cost due to relative complexity, inherently inefficient due to higher parasitic losses, scalability etc.
Or an in-line 6 ....BMW still uses that .... And yeah 5 cylinders can also be an option.
@@rahulvenugopal1672 Not tough to build a 5cyl. Volvo and Audi did it for years
@@weirdshibainu I think all the MBAs at Daimler would riot if Mercedes tried to throw a hundred million at a 5 cylinder when Europe is going electric only in 10 years. It's a pretty questionable ROI, especially when BMW arguably captures the performance sedan market and a four-cylinder won't turn too many buyers away.
@@faeinthebay Europe will not go all electric in 10 years. They wont even be able to hear their homes this winter. But yes, I get it, the roi doesn't pencil

even the new s class looks like a new c lol
yeah, thats why I do not like newer Benz, can't tell them apart.
i just hope they don’t give the new 3 that ghastly front end and everything will be ok. i love the Alpina B3 !
@@plutodestroyer12 Well the different front fascia’s are to differentiate the models so I doubt that, but assuming you’re talking about the 4 series I actually appreciate it’s bold looks.
@@plutodestroyer12 2023 3 series has similar style front end, they just inverted the DRLs

How many variations on cars for sale in North America? Good question, why not ask Truecar :-) ?

Was there no factory number plate mount? 🤔 looks weird af how it was just whacked on crooked..
There is one on German spec cars
Ik they’re in Canada but in the states this happens sometime because 3/4 of the country doesn’t require a front plate so sometimes manufacturers don’t put one or bought a car out of state only a handful require it I think it’s like 37 out of 50 that don’t require it
That’s just how they are on the amg bumpers
A number of provinces in Canada do not require front plates but Ontario still does. Probably slapped on by the dealer who is obviously blind.
It's a shame the lack of a front plate mount!
Front plates suck anyways
This Mercedes C300 is a Marmaduke badass!
We're lucky here in New Brunswick you don't have to put license plates on the front anymore but at least that license plate should be put on the center it looks ugly off to the side like that it just looks like it's hanging there anyways love your vids boys cheers from New Brunswick👍😎🇨🇦

Rather own/buy/lease the E class. Make it a E53 please?
Man, do they not walk you through the car when you pick it up? There are so many new features to this car that would blow people away. Like the customizable equilizer based on a series of steps you adjust based on how you hear each part. Or how this engine is not your normal "hybrid" setup?
The 330i is better then this car and wins every comparison test, the new tablet style is a shame, the dual driver display method on the current E class and A class is superior and is what BMW is switching to for a reason. or grand a Genesis g70, when that gets re-designed in 2023 it's lights out for the C class, esp with its turbo v6 and not a 4 cylinder.
The 48v mild hybrid system has already been out for a few years and used more cleverly by BMW as well.
I'd like to see Genesis do a redesign of the G70 - I think that would give the C class a run for the money
Nah it will never happen no one really cares about Genesis outside Korea, the sales figure is so small and literally decreasing each year. Forget about Mercedes the sales figure of Lexus RX model alone beat out the whole Genesis lineup sales in a year.

Had brand new c220d as a rental in europe for 2 weeks. The capacitive touch buttons and all screen interface is so annoying to operate especially when you are driving. Loving Jakub’s watch choices of late. I see a Hodinkee Talking Watches episode in the future.
BMW G20 / G21 is still more my favourite in that vehicle class. The new Honda Civic Si is also very cool if it has to be petrol.
But agree that the previous version was better than the lci version
I’m trying to get use to the rear but it’s just too horrendous.
But S class rear is even worse than on the C class
I have yet to hear a car reviewer applaud the absence of real buttons, weird and « innovative » gear selectors, or the use of gloss black. So what the heck is going on with car manufacturers? I love technology and innovation but they’re supposed to improve our lives, not make it more complicated!!
Comment of the year 👏👏👏👏👏
@@barbiesandlol3018 Oh, thanks! 😁
Cuz capacitive touch is cheaper than actual buttons. See: VW
I’ve got a 2015 c300 with sport package. I prefer that exterior design.
yeah it's worse, a better uograde is a 330i or a g70
