Yes that's an awesome technique! I wanted more of a smooth finish for this particular build but for getting a worn leather look on armor pieces that technique is great!
Thanks for all the bonus info and really breaking down some of the steps of this build Bill. You have made this build really accessible to those of us who want to start doing more cosplay crafts and you have been a really great teacher, thank you Punished Props!
@@Zombuny oh. lol really? havn't played since WoTLK - know nothing of current game situations :) Never mind the old man yelling from the lawn over here. lol.
When I saw this build, I was super excited. My brother is going off to college, and to stay in contact, my dad, him, and myself are all going to play WoW together, and to see you mention it made me super excited to play it with him. Thanks for the awesome vid man!
On the subject of markers: do not use paint markers for marking foam. You know how sometimes after a while sharpie marks bleed through a paint job after a while? Paint markers are literally designed to do that, they have a paint thinner in them that so that they show up through a lot of paints. They're used in construction to mark steel. Also, Warcraft 3 Reforged may have made me an axe guy, as Garithos's axe is definitely giving Frostmourne a run for its money for my favorite Warcraft prop.
Yeah if all the white marker I use doesn't get sanded off during fabrication I will usually wipe the prop down with alcohol just to get the last of it off. Great tip about paint markers!
Wow JoAnn's has EVA foam now??! That's so exciting! Every time I go to JoAnn's I see Yaya Han's cosplay fabric and I want to buy it so badly.. I love cosplays and I'm a digital artist myself but I've never done a physical cosplay. This may be the perfect time to try! Thanks for letting us all know that it's available :D
MVP: the guy backing up their truck HAHAHA From all the 'metal' works you guys done so far, this one i think its my favourite! its just looking S E X Y this battered up metal effect!!! Awesome work!! And congrats for the 500k =D
You had me at World of Warcraft! I love watching crafting videos and because i have two monitors, i get to have them on while i play WoW. So seeing this very good looking weapon being made while i take a break waiting to get from point A to point B in game, is very fun to watch and listen to :]
Watching how much fun Bill has making things is what I find most inspiring about this channel! I love the shot of him skipping in to the Joann Fabrics store. My whole family gets Joann's coupons on our phones and we pool them together for our projects. My daughter got some of the Yaya Han foam and I am hoping that she will post something on her Instagram (@thread_canon_creations) soon. I think she was planning to rebuild her Wonder Woman outfit with it.
I really appreciate that every time you weather or do something that you've done a million times before you still explain what your doing and why. It's nice not having to search through videos to figure out why you're doing what you're doing.
Hey Bill! Congrats on 500k!! You deserved it. I would love to see a video on the different kinds of things you can do with a bandsaw like tips and tricks! How did it feel to skip into Joann's? lol Another amazing build, Bill, and you made it look effortless! I admire your attention to detail and always making it a blast for the viewers. You guys are doing great with these newer videos (not that all your videos arent great!)... This one taught me something I really need for a prop; making a rounded bevel by belt sanding while it's on the PVC pipe, genius! I just got the same 1" belt sander you have, so I'll be trying that for sure. I also liked how you were pretty much hugging your belt sander to get that one shot. Congrats on the 500K, I'll still be here when you hit another 500K!
Bill is right about keeping an eye open when there are yard sales and other ways to get used power tools. I was able to find an old Craftsman 16" scroll saw that still works for only $20.
For faux wood grain, a dark brown glaze (over a lighter brown solid base layer) applied with a cheap, stringy brush in one direction provides a nice wood look.
Ya did another great job on this. Thank you for all the detail. Enjoyed all the weathering, etc...that you applied at the end. I'da used real leather for the handle but you did the job, not me, so Bob's your uncle. Thanks for an educational, entertaining and fun video. I do appreciate your work.
Congrats on 500k, Dorans! Fantastic build that reinforced my dire need to get my workshop finished. Lookin' forward to more vids and seein' how Brit Saves your butt and your materials budget again!
I have one of those Westcott metal rulers too. Where the logo is on the opposite side of the hole, I drilled out and now have a string running through it. This gives me a way to draw stable and consistant curves.
Great work as per usual, Bill and Britney. Congratulations on hitting half a million subs btw. Do you think you'll ever try making a Stark nano gauntlet out of eva foam or polystyrene sheets?
The Halloween Costume vid had the "bulky but consider it carry on" reference. You got the "Yak Call" on this one. Boy oh Boy, the When Nature Calls references are just bringing me back! Love it!
Congrats on 500K! I made something similar to the hammer, but I used a 90-degree 4-way connector inside the hammer head so I could have a crossbar physical connection to the heads of the hammer (to prevent deforming). Still, you did an awesome job!!!
Congrats for the subscribers....you guys truly deserve it...you’re both such a joy to watch and learn from! I think this is my favourite video so far....something about the crisp lines and straight edges....it looks incredible...almost unbelievable it’s foam glue paint and pvc...
Another awesome video! You guys inspired me to attempt making my first foam prop, Indiana Jones’ saber/machete from Temple of Doom. It didn’t turn out very good at all but I learned SO much. And I live very close to a Joann’s so I can’t wait to try it again with this new foam!
That pebble texture you're talking about is a hammer forged look, like something made by hand at a forge without much finishing polish work done to smooth it out.
Very nice. A trick I learned but haven't attempted myself yet to get pvc to look like wood is to scratch vertically with a wire brush, pretty roughly too, and then hit it with either a wood stain or paint then wiped. Gotta get me some of those foam dowels to try. Great build as always!
Frostmourne is my ultimate WoW weapon. I started playing WoW in BC, what really got me hooked was WOTLK and to this day it remains my favourite expansion and Frostmourne my favourite weapon. Would love to see you make one, have seen some on youtube made out of EVA foam but none at your level of quality.
Something I use to get accurate and even bevels for round objects is to shove a screw or a bolt through the center of the circle and chuck it in the drill, then going to the sander. Kinda like a mini lathe. Not sure if it would work for foam but it’s worth a shot!
Been playing WoW since Vanilla and have never quit. 15 years strong! haha. Anyway, As a WoW fan I came across this video and really enjoyed watching it so I subbed to you. From one WoW fan to another I just wanted to say well done on Doomhammer! :)

Im so glad I found your channel. It helps fill the gaps between Adam Savages one Day builds. And it also helps me live out my maker dreams, as I dont have the space or the time to do it. So thanks :)
So glad you enjoy the channel, but don't feel like you have to have a certain setup before you get started! Every maker I know started with almost nothing. You'd be surprised what you can make on a bedroom floor using very few materials!
I was not at all feeling that stippled Mod Podge look before you painted, but it turned out amazing! I have a Witch King helmet that I've been trying to get a texture I like on and I think I'm going to give that a try.
That's some great work, I've watched a few videos looking for ideas of what my dad and nephew could use for different projects. My nephew is in the monster phase so I think he would love to make his own Predator costume.
Thank you so much! If you're a member of our Extra Credit Club you can see some pretty great vlog content from that day! punishedprops.com/extra-credit-club/
I have played wow with my 2 sons since BC. I've never been into cosplay or props, until i watched this video! This video was AWESOME. I'm a contractor, and I know watching this vid I could duplicate it. I hope you didn't get me addicted to this stuff!
Hey Bill and everyone else who also shop at either or both at Joann’s & Michael’s you can use coupons from either Michael’s or Joann’s at either store because they are brother and sister stores which means they are run by the same company. It’s very helpful. I do have some critiques that can be very useful to make the hammer sturdy.
Yes you can, it's super handy! The hammer is VERY sturdy and doesn't need to be more so - it's just a display or convention piece. It would likely perform well as a LARP weapon as-is.
Punished Props Academy oh I believe it is sturdy and it’s for display but if someone wants to make it really sturdy for when they LARP with it without having to worry that something might happen to it by how they can buy a Large yoga block which is 6 3/4" x 9 1/4" x 13 1/2" on www.yogaoutlet.com/products/everyday-yoga-foam-super-block-8172924?gclid=CjwKCAjwnMTqBRAzEiwAEF3ndlLuIj8BDPRsy6AL4bce9ABF8yhs4OAF0PfOOZje0KCfT_OCGQO7BBoCJ58QAvD_BwE&variant=14827148541987 or a smaller yoga blocks and glue them together then glue it inside and to the pvc pipe, mask the pvc pipe that’s showing, spray with plasti dip, paint, and add FlexBond.
For wood grains, you may want to use a darker color. Like really dark brown to almost black. When you use something like black cherry dye on wood it often turns the grains much darker. Even freshly cut, the grains of the wood is much darker.
Looks like you had a use for the Doomhammer - before you even got it finished! Now then, there's a reason you're called the foamsmith, this build [with the good old basic foam and paints] shows where your fortay truly is. You've made some great 'hi-tec' projects with all the great new machines, cnc's and 3D printers etc - but down 'n' dirty wins the day - prop-building cosplayers [especially the low-budget ones] will know what I mean. Great stuff can be 'engineered' with all the tech, but I think it might be a bit 'overkill' for the practicalities of cosplay. Love all your stuff Bill & Britt, your skills are an inspiration to all us makers of every ouvre.

the templet of doom
@MAX SPENDILTEN HAH!
@@punishedprops it is based on the fact that you are doing the doom hammer and it was a the templet so i called it the templet of doom like the movie
if you get some alumium foil and losely crumple it, press it into heated foam, you can get a very nice textured leather effect for your wrappings.
Yes that's an awesome technique! I wanted more of a smooth finish for this particular build but for getting a worn leather look on armor pieces that technique is great!

So glad you enjoy the channel, but don't feel like you have to have a certain setup before you get started! Every maker I know started with almost nothing. You'd be surprised what you can make on a bedroom floor using very few materials!
I really loved this build. Amazing detail
Thanks so much!
An awesome video, excellent workmanship. Though the icing on the cake was the Ace Ventura yak mating call.
😂
I was not at all feeling that stippled Mod Podge look before you painted, but it turned out amazing!
I have a Witch King helmet that I've been trying to get a texture I like on and I think I'm going to give that a try.
Looks awesome bill. Great job and congratulations on 500k!
Thank you so much!
@@punishedprops I can't believe that you replied
That's some great work, I've watched a few videos looking for ideas of what my dad and nephew could use for different projects. My nephew is in the monster phase so I think he would love to make his own Predator costume.
Oh man, a predator costume would be so cool!
GRATS ON 500K we need a blooper run as milestone vid :) 1h of bill, britt and paige messing around :)
Thank you so much! If you're a member of our Extra Credit Club you can see some pretty great vlog content from that day! punishedprops.com/extra-credit-club/
Congrats on the 500k subs! This vid has got me inspired to work on my Shao Kahn Wrath Hammer!
That's fantastic! Thank you so much!
I have played wow with my 2 sons since BC. I've never been into cosplay or props, until i watched this video! This video was AWESOME. I'm a contractor, and I know watching this vid I could duplicate it. I hope you didn't get me addicted to this stuff!
Heck yeah! Welcome to the party!
Punished Props Academy oh I believe it is sturdy and it’s for display but if someone wants to make it really sturdy for when they LARP with it without having to worry that something might happen to it by how they can buy a Large yoga block which is 6 3/4" x 9 1/4" x 13 1/2" on www.yogaoutlet.com/products/everyday-yoga-foam-super-block-8172924?gclid=CjwKCAjwnMTqBRAzEiwAEF3ndlLuIj8BDPRsy6AL4bce9ABF8yhs4OAF0PfOOZje0KCfT_OCGQO7BBoCJ58QAvD_BwE&variant=14827148541987 or a smaller yoga blocks and glue them together then glue it inside and to the pvc pipe, mask the pvc pipe that’s showing, spray with plasti dip, paint, and add FlexBond.
you seem to love this foam, but im more impressed by that adhessive force of the cement. magnificient. good video
Barge Cement is magic and I use it in pretty much every foam project.
pure craftsmanship!! stunning weapon you've made there. Wow!
Congratulations for your 500k. And nice job as always 👏👏👏💜💜💜 greetings from Portugal
Thank you so much for your support!
Ah ha, I didn’t expect another video so soon, and after being in a car all day this is PERFECT! Thank you much
Tah-dah!!
Finished result looks epic! Great texture 👌🏻
Thank you so much!
For wood grains, you may want to use a darker color. Like really dark brown to almost black. When you use something like black cherry dye on wood it often turns the grains much darker. Even freshly cut, the grains of the wood is much darker.
This is incredible you did a wonderful job!
Thanks so much!
Always loved the lvl 52 2h sword Destiny and the lvl 40 X'Caliboar of the same model with a different skin.
Nice!
Love all your stuff Bill & Britt, your skills are an inspiration to all us makers of every ouvre.
p.s. the stippled mod podge was a gamechanger btw!
