Ryan O'Shea the nanites power themselves all they are are microscopic robots capable of linking together on there own when ever the user needs them the power supply comes from the inside of the nanites so u were basically asking what powers a drone ;)
Fantastic job Bill, tried modelling this myself but yours just looks way better. Gonna have to print that one out soon! Thanks for the files from a fellow Iron Man Cosplayer.
Cool project! Suggestion: Instead of a hole in the shirt(which is not great), you could have a magnet on both side (one on the unit, one inside your shirt) and a 'reed switch' (activated by magnetic) to power-on the unit when the magnet is close by.
Norm I just thought about that hole in the shirt problem, too. If you use reed switches, you would need some kind of power source in the outside... dont‘t you? I had something like wireless charging in my head, thou I don‘t know if that would be enough power...
@@Ekatioz You're right. I was hoping that a flat lithium battery, like the ones used on the mini drones, would fit in the arc reactor. But yeah, I should have considered the power requirement (not just the switch) before posting the suggestion :(

Very cool project! I think i would have integrated a connection for the electronics that also connects when you put on the arc reactor on that magnets. Would have been way more practical Still damn awesome and incredibly detailed
just add wireless charger module on inner part that will be put inside shirt then voila when magnets touch it will trigger wireless charger and lamp will be turn on, no need to cut and works with any shirt
I just tried with a couple of strong magnets on my shirt, and a multimeter. I didn't get any electrical connection between the two. It'd have to be a very thin shirt.
Awesome!!!! I recently watched Iron Man 2 as well, and it has me wanting to go off of one of those suits for Indy Comic Con this year. And I use those same mini connectors for my light sabers!!!
Why didn't you design the pieces so that they either friction fit or they attach with clips so that they can be disassembled later on? If the panel burns out, you risk a lot of injury to the pieces trying to replace said panel.
If this was something I was going to wear a lot for cosplay I probably would have done that, but as it is I really just need it for display. I don't know the EL panels will burn out, so for the most part I'd just need to replace the battery, but I could be wrong.
Thanks for showing the clean up of the resin. I've been wondering how easy it was to work with. I think I like the classic reactor Tony built in the cave.
Personally for making a miniature that's supposed to be all metallic pop with contrast, I go darker than intended on the base coat and HEAVILY highlight with a brighter metal. It prevents shading from looking "dirty" when it doesn't need to be.
Finding this video now with this elegant of a lighting solution makes me feel a bit brutish rather than refined -- for Halloween last year I made the reactor, designed it myself, used magnets and wireless energy transmission to power it (didn't want to put holes in any of my shirts) but I just got a string of battery powered LED lights and glued them to a diffuser panel within the reactor. This one looks a lot better.
Great job! Was cool to watch. Just for accuracy, Avengers: Endgame featured the Mark 85 Iron Man armor, his last armor design in the MCU. Still, very nice!
