    Cool project!
Suggestion: Instead of a hole in the shirt(which is not great), you could have a magnet on both side (one on the unit, one inside your shirt) and a 'reed switch' (activated by magnetic) to power-on the unit when the magnet is close by.

    • @Ekatioz
      @Ekatioz 5 лет назад +3

Norm I just thought about that hole in the shirt problem, too. If you use reed switches, you would need some kind of power source in the outside... dont‘t you? I had something like wireless charging in my head, thou I don‘t know if that would be enough power...

Why didn't you design the pieces so that they either friction fit or they attach with clips so that they can be disassembled later on?
If the panel burns out, you risk a lot of injury to the pieces trying to replace said panel.

    • @punishedprops

If this was something I was going to wear a lot for cosplay I probably would have done that, but as it is I really just need it for display. I don't know the EL panels will burn out, so for the most part I'd just need to replace the battery, but I could be wrong.

Personally for making a miniature that's supposed to be all metallic pop with contrast, I go darker than intended on the base coat and HEAVILY highlight with a brighter metal. It prevents shading from looking "dirty" when it doesn't need to be.

Finding this video now with this elegant of a lighting solution makes me feel a bit brutish rather than refined -- for Halloween last year I made the reactor, designed it myself, used magnets and wireless energy transmission to power it (didn't want to put holes in any of my shirts) but I just got a string of battery powered LED lights and glued them to a diffuser panel within the reactor. Hey Bill, great tutorial but there is one detail I think you could still add even now that would elevate this even further. If you look at the image you used, you can see it looks like the shirt goes under the reactor. So just make a new backplate that has a "lip" that goes out, so the reactor looks a bit indented into the chest. Right now it looks like "hanging off" the chest instead of being part of it. If you try it out, post it, I'd love to see that.

Hey Bill and the rest of the PPA crew, A quick question regarding your washes. Have you tried using Flow Aid in your washes to help with how it sits on the surface? If so, is there a reason you dont use is more often?

Can't say I've ever used it - I find that water works just fine and haven't felt a need to look for alternatives.

@@punishedprops You may want to look into it. A bottle is cheap and you only use a few drops at a time in a wash. It really makes washes better behaved and easier to control.

Well, this is my new project. Only problems are, that i can´t get the electronic parts anywhere here in Austria.
Have to order them at pihut and the inverters there are all out of stock...amazon links don´t ship here -.-

Yeah Amazon sucks here in the EU... :/

Okay, i got the parts i need. If you live in the EU like me, you can get the el panel at pihut in the uk.
For the inverters, there is no chance you can get them, they are all discontinued there.
You need to visit aliexpress, they have them all starting at 1EUR per piece, but the delivery time is little long.

Great work man. You could have ran all the power to the support plate and used magnets as contact points so that when the piece sits on ur chest it can be powered but u can also remove it from ur chest with out having a dangling cable that needs to run through ur shirt
