Love the new design. Feels a lot more airy, fresh and modern... but that battery icon HAS TO go.
@Adam Koch no, the green one in the battery preferences
edit: spelling
Yeah it's the first time I'm impressed with this operating system since the release of Mavericks. I hated the way everything in yosemite looked.
Right?! Lol
i dont see anything wrong with it????
What about the icons
1:20 I hope that's not the final battery icon lmaoo
It can't possibly be. Windows XP called and want it's icon back.
Why would they even have it for now instead of like an iPhone battery icon? Too ugly.
Hopefully placeholder
Totally agree! That looks like some kind of old school Android design.
looks like a green condom
That battery icon tho
what about it?
Stefanos Lalic green one looks ugly as hell
I like how you used ESPN as your example website when demoing Safari's tracker feature since MacRumors has about 40 trackers if you were to use that.
Rachid Jeitani I wonder what trackers pornhub uses
@@al821 Yup. Those penis enlargement ads.
@@al821 fr they shoulda demoed it here
1:20 *Internal screaming while he doesn’t notice the battery icon*
Basically, this is Mac's version of Windows 8. Trying to be both a desktop OS and a tablet OS. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years we see an OS that will span both laptops and iPad Pro, similar to how Windows has gone. A lot of these updates actually look much more appropriate for touch, for example the Control Center having sliders and large tiles vs. small clickable buttons.
I think that’s the point because of iPhone SE and iOS 14 THEY WANTED android users to switch and because of the apple silicon going to be used which will make Mac potentially less in price (comparatively) so WINDOWS users can switch MAKING A WIDER SPECTRUM FOR THE USERS
no, more like they are adding useful mobile features to desktop
did you know that you can already install a linux distro on any android phone? thats a far better hybrid OS experience than anything mac or windows is doing
Looks like Apple is doing a much better job than what MS did with Windows 8.
Does the Mac have any additional features for switch control?
What a beautiful interface, I loved that.
does it fix the heating issue when connected to external monitor?
are we still able to costumize the icons? pls say yes
Does the Big Sur Messages app support sending and receiving message effects, like the Loud effect or some of the animated backgrounds like balloons or confetti?
should i do this if i have a 2013 mbpr? i havent updated since sierra because im worried about it slowing my computer down, but it still runs pretty good.
Looks beautiful
Can I use audacity in this new OS?
So can we disable this touch oriented UI on non touch devices? I don't care one bit for all that space between items.
That chime sound
Is it possible to remove control center icon from menu bar?
Any new features/functionality for Voice Control in macOS Big Sur?
When is this coming out?
Awesome! Curious is the only way to download the beta is by signing up for developer $90 account?
Can you disable the square app icons? I just want the app icon, and not some filler around it to make it look like iOS. Looks trash.
This update looks very nice
I downloaded macOS Big Sur Developer Beta from betaprofiles.com and some really weird things are happening:
1- Dock and Menu Bar are not transparent they're solid!
2- Can't connect to Wi-Fi ( it says connected in the system preferences but in safari, it doesn't)
3- Some apps are not launching! ( I open them and they quit after I opened them in 2 seconds:(
I tried re-downloading from recovery but it didn't change anything. What should I do?
Cool Thanks.
When will this be released?
not really a fan of the icons, weird contrast of windows and new sounds :/
U will get used it, but hoping they update icons to look better
THANK YOU i have it and i am not a fan. its gonna take a while to get used too
1:25 Oh no, battery dropped 1%
Good spot!!
lol 😂
I miss Jonathan Ive
Great overview. Oh my gosh that giant battery icon in System Prefs is hideous.
THE BONG IS FINALLY BACK!
Love the 2D looks of new MacOS
Surenios are gonna love this!
Glad the startup chime is back! I have a 2015 rMBP and it's a little hit/miss on it.
Startup chime sound never went away, what are they talking about?
I love MacOS Big Sur!
Is the lockscreen changed too?
🔥iOS 14 🔥
Are they going backwards with the icon designs? They should keep the flat design this isn't 2007
Hi Dale, Thanks for producing a sneak peak of the new Mac OS. I usually don't leave a comment on these types of videos but Since this is a departure from Mac OSX, and when I say that I mean OS ex, not OS 10. I have been with apple for about 10 years now. I guess I really got hyped on mac in the days of the " hi I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC" commercials. To keep this brief, I always enjoyed and looked forward to the WWDC while Steve was still with us because of the new product launches Apple was famous for back then. Apart from the new laptop designs, there was the ipod touch, ipad, and iphone which I loved and couldn't wait to go out and get. But in recent years I feel that Apple has become less innovative only giving us updates and feature changes to what has already been developed. I don't get as excited as I once did when I couldn't wait for the latest WWDC release on RUclips to see what new product Apple was going to unveil. Maybe I have been watching too many Scifi movies recently like that TV show the Expanse where they show glass phones which have holographic images which you can expand and rotate or swiped to a wall display, and that is what I keep waiting for a company like Apple to unveil in an event like the WWDC sometime in the future. Maybe we are just not there yet in our technology. But getting excited on a new OS release just doesn't do it for me any more. Will I upgrade my macbook when the final OS 11 is available? Probably, but I don't think I would get the full benefits of it on my 2015 macbook. And I will continue to hope and wait for the day when Apple stuns the world again by being the first to introduce and new game changing product like the old days with Steve at the helm.
Who do you think you are if you disable the startup sound
Chime?... YES!
Snow Leopard crew what's up
Which Mac do you have?
Hashim Iqbal unfortunately it’s more of a symbolic statement about my dissatisfaction with the future of the OS. I use mojave on a 2012 mbp, and my next computer will likely be a linux box. Maybe in the future I’ll get an old iMac or something and run snow leopard on it for kicks
still the best mac OS to date
@@ar_xiv or a hackintosh
Hi there, you don't really have to wait for the "Big Sur" for the start up chime. It's there in all Macbooks (and also maybe iMacs. Not sure). It's just that it's muted. You can unmute it by typing the following command in the Terminal:
sudo nvram StartupMute=%00
If you want to undo that...for whatever reason... just type :
sudo nvram StartupMute=%01
In Big Sur it can be toggled on audio settings, also the chime is slightly different shorter and higher pitch.
Safari support RUclips 4K?
No start up chime for me. Also the translate button is missing in safari.
Hopefully that fixed all the dang bugs. Apple TV for me gets a black flicker/clipping when viewing in full screen
When release come.
I hope it wont be as buggy as Catalina, which is still not running properly
Somehow the app icons all seem to be designed by a lot of different people without looking in sync
It is my understanding that Catalina is getting one more significant update, allegedly in June. Is that still happening?
what the f* is the wrong with the icons this year...
Nehco Oahnait I hate the round square icons I liked the icons I had on my jailbreak completely circle
@vinomus uP
@@nicholastedeschi3012 This is a Mac, it's easy to change icons to whatever you like
vinomus bruh
Going to have to agree with vinomus. Never hire a gay man to run a company, that always end up turning it into some politically correct shit fest.
I really like the new design tbh. Was always a fan of iOS/iPadOS look and having that same design with the same power behind a real desktop OS makes sense. The shadowy aspect of app icons and that big battery icon in settings must be tweaked to to be perfect cause they look weird atm
Is macOS Big Sur a stable beta? I am planning on getting it for my MacBook Air
Um, no. It’s the first developer beta. Lol. Don’t install it on your main machine.
It's a beta. If you depend on your MacBook and can't go without it I don't recommend to get it.
Try it on another partition
It's currently only available as a developer beta, which you need an Apple developer account (costing $99 a year) for. However, a public beta will be available for download next month. These betas will be unstable and buggy, so it's better to wait for the stable release in the autumn.
I really like the new design!
I actually really love it. I have been waiting for so long to see this redesigned and I think they did a good job. To be honest I’m not a big fan of the icons (FaceTime, Messages and the ugly battery icon especially), but hey, it’s the first beta. Remember when the first beta of iOS 7 rolled out and how much it changed until the GM release? They still have months to refine it, so I’m pretty calm.
I just realized that it looks like a preview of a future version of Windows.
Literally all I care about is the startup chime coming back
What music is playing at the end of this video ? ? ?
Legacy , Joseph Milauskus
@@sagnikb7 thank you - got a link? - can’t find it on Apple Music
Same flat icons
I miss the styling from the days os x snow leopard. 3d icons and a 3d dock. But since Steve Jobs things have been getting different
yeah that was exceptionally beautiful
Hope we will be able to switch the start up chime off rather than just turning the sound off before you power the computer down. Hate the chime, especially if you switch the computer on in the early hours of the morning.
Will third party apps icons be forced to have that rounded look?
the ui is soo ugly just take a look at the battery icon at 1:19
Yeah when I saw a screenshot of that, I thought to myself, they better get rid of that in the GM release.
Yeah placeholder maybe?
It looks similar to the battery icon in older versions of Android or even windows XP. Bizzare of apple. My S8 battery icon looks way more minimalist and nice imo.
@@davidlp3019 No, I can't think of a OS with that ugly battery icon. It's like cheap Chinese copy
I loved the interface.
What here actually justifies a full version increment? A ui refresh and some app (not os) feature additions? Hardly.
I think it has more to do with the transition to ARM/"Apple Silicon" architecture.
@@amylaneio indeed, but hardly mentioned in this video at all.
I hear Boot Camp may no longer work with future Apple Silicone Macs. And that Big Sur my be the last MacOS to allow use of Boot Camp. Anyone know how true this is?
best review ever good work
this is making me want to switch to MACOS for the first time in my life for casual use / editing. ( gaming pc will always have to run windows for optimal stuff but i dont game 24/7 so for when i dont game , having a IMAC would be neat )
Why iMac when you can have same power on a MacBook Pro
Hackintosh
@Julio I save money by doing it and it suits the needs. might have to jump off macOS to gnu/linux full time because of the ARM transition.
Deepin environment : so you choose me?
They better make the next macbook pro touchscreen with all these design choices
That battery icon is back to 2000 at 1:35
All they need is a touchscreen option for the macs
It would be cool to set your Apple watch face as a widget on your MacBook instead of that analog old style clock
so they finally innovated the number from 10 to 11
Apple does not know how to design UI and icons! What a mess!
nav i they do know how to do it, all the icons on Catalina are just fine. They don’t know when to stop “innovating” and just let things that are already working be alone
I don’t use MacBooks but I think they made the core backbone design of this OS to integrate with iPhone more as the apple silicon is coming So THE ECOSYSTEM IS BASICALLY MORE REFINED AND OPTIMIZED opening a wider spectrum for more users
I first got exposed with the Apple boot sound from the film Don Jon. I just got my MBP; now I'm super excited for macOS 11!
Well the start up Chime is there in all Macbooks actually.. It's just muted. You can unmute it by typing the following command in the terminal:
sudo nvram StartupMute=%00
@@jobz9150 Alright, I'll give it a try. Thanks!
I'm on a 2011 MBP15 with High Sierra and if you wouldnt have said anything I wouldnt have noticed that its a big update it still looks pretty much very MacOS like mine. I welcome the change but unfortunately wont work on my rock solid machine
Same flat icons
I miss the styling from the days os x snow leopard. 3d icons and a 3d dock. But since Steve Jobs things have been getting different.
Apple is finally starting to innovate again
Your website lied about Macs that will be supported
Wow that battery icon 😬
I dislike it, looks like a combination of iOS and a Chromebook. The thing I liked about Mac was how different it looks compared to everything else
Same
being different is not a significant aesthetic advantage.
Meh
They need to seriously fix the play/pause/skip buttons to actually work with the Music app
But how do I get it thought?
Wibbly Wobbly Productions u can, u need to download a developer profile, which can be found with a quick google search. It’s pretty easy to do tbh
I prefer the old one
Still no password for hidden photos..
Are there any actual architectural changes to justify a major version bump, or it's all just skin deep visual design changes? ARM support is probably the only thing (which is not to diminish its significance), since no one is mentioning anything else.
If only windows had wonderful designs like this
The battery symbol looks like it belongs on the first ever version of iOS..why would they do that if they’re looking to move forward?
It looks pretty cool though. I’m excited!
Also why am I so excited about the boot up chime?????? That’s literally the best part of this update (yes, I know it contradicts the earlier part of this comment)
They should hire Scott forstall again for the look and feel of iOS.
The interface looks so cheap to me now.
it really does look cheap lol. super basic and ugly looking.
Looks like someone dropped a bag of Skittles on an iPad and went “... huh, we can use that”
Christian Sanchez It truly is a new dawn!
I think it looks good-
It's in early beta, give it a chance! Apple still has to refine the design, there only basic features and basic designs which should be refined in the coming months.
the issue is always with the compatibility of the other app and 3rd party app..it take ages
actually the menu bar icon not necessary to show all of them
Absolutely nothing of use to me. Happy with the look of the latest OS and it's been such a relief in recent times when on a commuter train, not to hear a chorus of MAX volume Macs start up shortly after the train has left each and every sodding station.
lookwise this remember me some linux themes
MacOS Windows Vista
LMAO
MacOS windows vista iPadOS IOS
MacOS starting to look more like iOS. Damn =/
And soon, no more MacOS. IOS and MacOS integrates
gross
no more flat design?
Slow performance is the biggest issue of Big Sur. Apps open up slowly
I love a lot of the new features. But Apple needs to get a new UI designer. The icons especially are awful.
Is the start up sound optional? Please say yes I don't miss that noise
I can’t wait till I can use safari to translate assignments for homework. They’ll probably make us use google chrome 😔
