Unlike literally everyone, I actually like the icons and overall ui change.
It’s funny because people had the exact same reaction with iOS 7 and OS X Yosemite. Within months to come, nobody’s gonna care about the UI’s look anymore.
I don't mind most of it, but it's all over the place. Either go flat or add drop shadows. Quit mixing it. (Preferably flat)

I use my MacBook Pro 16 for my AutoCAD work, this beta is stable enough to join me in developer program and still using my device for regular work?

I’m not a fan of some of these changes, to me it feels like a Windows 8 faze where it looks like it’s made for a touch interface... I hope they refine a lot of the icons before final release as well, because oof that Battery icon 😬

I really love the changes, but some icons look too juvenile for my taste. Like when I see Apple’s spaceship like building/interior & exterior modern and futuristic design, would really look awesome on some icons to have a similar approach.

Safari is big time. Plus the addition of being able to port chrome extensions this is enough for me to switch.

It’s possible to have the Mac chime on Catalina. I don’t remember the command but you can switch it back on through terminal.

icons look really small can they be adjusted?
Sending images in iMessage has been a feature on macOS. You just had to drag and drop from the source location or folder to the message text field.
But now it's feature-paired with iOS, but with that comes the poor Catalyst experience which includes the lack of animated focus rings, Touch Bar support, and Force Touch.
What about the sound animation that shows everytime we increase or reduce sound, you know, just in the middle of the screen ? Did they put it in the side ?
No. That's one of many OS X things to stay in OS XI!
are the paddings of the icons in the top menu bar adjustable?
No. There is an option to adjust the size, but it's very subtle and requires a logout, which sort of breaks the menu bar's quick-adjust theme. It is very weird considering iOS 13 removed a restart requirement from one of its settings--bold text!

One remark: Favicons on Safari tabs aren't new. They can be enabled in the application settings.

I’m ok with all the UI changes except for the messages, FaceTime and AppStore icons, but the worst of it is the horrible battery icon on settings. It isn’t Apple style, Johny Ive’s absence is noticeable

There's a 100% chance that icon will be gone in the final. Looks like a placeholder. Stop using a SINGLE tiny example to pretend Apple's design has gone down the drain. Nothing to do with Ive. The new design looks absolutely gorgeous, a massive leap over what we have currently which is super long in the tooth. Almost everyone shat on iOS7 when it was 1st revealed, and that was Jony's doing.
It’s just a beta chill out. And everybody hated Ives iOS 7 And Yosemite too at the time saying it was the decline of Ives design
It seems a very bad joke from Apple, a company that is obsessed with the minimum detail of their products to have allowed that battery icon go out to the public. Yes, it is a mistake, but not of the kind Apple does. Look at MKHBD video, as he says, we’ll get used to the new design but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good, just like Waze, its design is ugly AF but for some people it’s an important app they have to use everyday.
do you use quicktime player to record your screen? does it not take too much space for even short video recording?
QuickTime Player's screen record feature as of Mojave launches the screen recording UI you get by pressing Command-Shift-5.
i think i will love big sur
I didn’t pay any attention to the new MacOS because my 2012 iMac was going great and I had no plans to upgrade to a new Mac. But I just brought a Mac Mini so now it’s time to catch up on the new MacOS. I’ve had my iMac since 2013 and it’s been flawless aside from some lag when opening apps. It’s pretty incredible that a 2012 computer was given the latest macOS last year. I really like Catalina and found it smooth and responsive.
Is it just me or when it comes to iOS 14 beta one according to my iPhone storage it says that I’ve used 20 more gigabytes on my 64 GB iPhone XR I really only used 21 GB of storage

How do I get the iOS, iPad OS, and Mac OS, beats downloaded? Every time I try on beta.apple.com it only provides iOS 13 stuff...
iOS 14, iPadOS 14, macOS Big Sur, and watchOS 7 are currently in Developer Beta. I think in order for you to get these, you may need to be enrolled in Apple Developer Program, developer.apple.com/programs. Meanwhile, the Public Beta of iOS 14, iPadOS 14, macOS Big Sur, and watchOS 7 will be made available in July on beta.apple.com.
my biggest question is: will I need to get new versions of my software or will the transition be no worse than the transition from 10.14 to 10.15? I remember the transition from MacOS 9 to MacOS 10 and it was difficult
Old apps report the version as 10.16 for this very reason. Once they update, they'll report the version as 11. It still says OS X in some places, so this is technically OS X 11.

Do we have new feature in time machine? I thing this is one of the powerful software always forgotten. When inside Mail are you still able to enter time machine and retrieve a specific old email?
APFS support was added, but it's still broken with my ~2008 time capsule (UPDATE: I now use an external hard drive instead). Done and Restore buttons are rounded to match the new futuristic design.

Probably never considering the 2021 NotchBook Pro would've been when they introduced touchscreens to Macs, but they didn't.

For 2016+ MacBook Pros, 2017 MacBooks, and 2018+ MacBook Airs since they have the auto-boot feature.
can it play 32 bit apps unlike Catalina that does not support old apps ?
No. It doesn't make sense to bring it back once removed. Please ask the devs of your favorite 32bit apps to update.
It is making the OS set to support touch inputs. Hence the bigger gaps on icons at the top bar, the hidden option to space things out more (which will probably become a default) etc.
A touch screen iMac for designers and a small macbook with touch support is very likely down the line.
It could be, but it also makes it more sleek, futuristic, and beautiful.
UPDATE: The NotchBook Pro 2021 would've been that Mac, but it wasn't, so I guess all hopes for a touchscreen MacBook have been shot down.

I don't use MacOS to do any work at all, only for entertainment but I have bootcamp with Windows to get work done. would it be safe to install Big Sur? The only thing I worry is League of Legends not working on Big Sur.
I had a Mac Mini (Late 2014), with Big Sur beta, and I would say my favorite OS ever. But because of the year, the processor kept deteriorating over time, I kept deleting the drive to make it faster, but hope was lost. I only had 4gb of RAM so it was very slow, and I ended up selling it on Ebay, and then I bought a Microsoft/Windows computer. Now my computer is faster, but I wish I could have gotten a Mac. :(

So no more calculator on the widget? Can you multi-select conversations and delete all of them simultaneously? Can you bring back a deleted Tab in Safari in this Big Sur? Can you send later on a specified time on e-mail? For daily work meetings, can we now able to record audio which is synchronized with what your writing in order to just click anywhere on the writing to playback the synchronised recorded audio in that spot. e.g Notability app? Can you now reverse (delete or edit) a mistakenly sent message?
For some odd reason Apple decided to remove the ability to have widgets be mini-apps. That makes absolutely no sense.

Has anyone noticed that the clock tab is missing in the Date/Time setting in System Preferences? If so what is the fix for this if any?

App design in this Mac OS is meh especially with Mail, Messages and FaceTime apps. Would miss old design for Mail app, kinda looked unique imo :) And what da hell happened to battery icon inside system preferences lol? 🤢🤮
I'm stoked about Big Sur but I'm really surprised how many reviewers don't know that the Translucent Menu Bar is NOT new. It was first introduced in MacOS X Leopard. The same translucent menu bar.
The translucent menu bar has gone through 3 versions: Leopard, Yosemite, and now Big Sur. Leopard was 3D and not blurred, Yosemite was blurred and had a shadow. Big Sur is a mixture of translucency and desktop tinting and doesn't have a shadow, which looks very futuristic and concept-y. It also no longer follows the theme so it always blends in with the wallpaper, though that means it looks out of place in fullscreen apps.
UPDATE: As of macOS 12 Monterey, full screen menu bar is pitch black, which hinted at the NotchBooks.
something that bugs me is that in this new update all the apple apps are squares but the third-party ones still have their unique shapes and forms. it looks kind of odd to me
As with anything 3rd-party, it's up to them to update the icons.

The design I would say has gone backwards, it’s got the iOS 6 and below vibe with the bold colours.
In terms of app icons, I agree. But the glyphs & overall aesthetic are better imo
Yeah I agree with that, I’m annoyed because me and my friend have the exact same model number MacBook Pro but mines an early 2013 and his is a late 2013 and he can get the Mac OS 11 update but I can’t. Literally the exact same hardware (other than I have i7 and he has an i5)

Safari is SUPER buggy on MacOS 11! It crashed on me about 10 times already and I’ve only had the update about 30 mins lol

Blue labels in Night Mode look awful. I can't see half of them in this vid. 6:00 -- the "To:" field at the top, for example, and the glyphs in Messages' Settings at 7:30, plus all the sidebar icons in Finder. Hope they revise this before release. (keep adding on minor annoyances as the vid continues) They made Safari's New Tab button look like every other button instead of a button in the tab "area"? More visible but it makes less conceptual sense. And I thought we still had a slightly translucent menubar in Catalina (put in a desktop photo with high contrast and you'll see it)

If we do, I'm not sure if they will have Force Touch media controls or Touch Bar support since Force Touch is impossible with Catalyst, and not many Catalyst apps have Touch Bar support.
