Originally I had zero interest in the 5.7x28 cartridge until Fiocchi released their 150 round bulk pack. It brings the ammo cost from $1+/round to about 50 cents. After some research it appears that the M&P is the best 5.7x28 pistol on the market. It has the highest capacity (Metal Mags), and it uses a gas operated system to reduce recoil. Looks like a winner.
The gas delay system really cuts down on the blowback "port pop" which most pistols have, that's probably why it's so quiet. Really it's a genius design, I hope S&W puts it in more products, maybe a 5.7 PCC/large frame pistol with an 8-11" barrel? That would be awesome.
@@mrs.vasquezz No, the Ruger is straight blowback, with all the negative qualities associated with that cycling system (more recoil, more cycling mass, more noise). With the 5.7/22mag pistols every reviewer has remarked about how the S&W noticeably recoils less, particularly in 5.7. That's because the gun doesn't even begin unlocking until the bullet is past the gas port, at which point the expansion chamber surrounding the barrel is pressurized (at a relatively low pressure), and the barrel itself is driven backwards, acting as a short-stroke piston to drive the slide. So the recoil impulse is later and less violent; everything you want from an autoloader.
That’s crazy, I have little experience with 5.7 but from being at the range I know they are LOUD 😂 so wasn’t expecting it to suppress so well. Is this just regular 5.7 ammo?
Isn't the 5.7 really fast? It sounded quieter than an ar suppressed. Hard to tell over different sound recording devices. But to me it sounded quieter.
@Gear Runner that is wild. Obviously it wouldn't reach it peak velocity out of a 4 inch barrel, but it's still gotta be flying. The Crack from going over the speed of sound didn't even sound as loud. But it was still there... It's a head scratcher for sure.
I was bummed to find out I can’t run the 5.7 through my 9mm can. I guess the pressure of the 5.7 is too much for the aluminum construction of the suppressor I own. Bummer!
did you use a thread spacer i run 10 rds through my M and P 5.7 with dead air mask hd and had to remove it with a pipe wrench Dead air said they knew about the problem with that combination of mask and 5.7 and were trying to come up with a fix mine is sent in now to have the back cap replaced it has a rotating bolt and it tightens it every shot like a torque wrench is what several companys told me and 3 threads ae exposed in side the blast baffle
As a newly minted owner of one of these beauties, I'm definitely gonna look into getting it silenced. A few additional questions, however; Were you using standard or subsonic 5.7? Did the silencer increase the weight to any significant degree? Did it further arrest the already practically non-existent recoil? It looked like it definitely brought down the massive fireball I noticed this thing makes when I fire it, though that may have just been the recording.
Subsonic ammo makes a hug difference with this setup, I would guess he was but he also shot into a huge field with nothing sound bounce back. The dead air silencer weighs nothing, aluminum and titanium guts Recoil not affected by silencer on this pistol.
I have a Bowers Bitty I would like to try on this gun. If you are interested, please let me know. I can swing by when I drive from Texas to NE Arkansas in April for flight lessons. I will hold the camera for another video.
its unreal, only 5.7 ive shot is my own m&p, 5.7 is already a flat shooting round, and by that i mean a round that is more long than a 9mm or even 357, meaning that the recoil can be transferred directly back into the palm as is because of physics of the round being longer. now with the tempo system it makes it even more i can imagine, my mask is in jail right now so no comparison of weight can be given
Did you have a hard time putting your suppressor on the 5.7? I have a Rugged Oculus that fits all my other guns and tightens super smooth. I feel like I’m cross threading when I tighten it and it won’t go all the way flush. Contacted SW but haven’t heard anything back. Thinking maybe it’s the factory lok tight that is obviously on the threads when you take off the thread cover. Not sure but I sure don’t want to damage the threads. It looks fine after I take it off but I can’t get it to screw on flush without it feeling totally locked on.
@@gearrunnerI'd recommend a 1/2"x28, .2 threaded spacer. S&W has a .600 thread length on that 5.7. You're going to want .400 to ensure proper fitment and to avoid the possibility of baffle strikes, hence the spacer.
Have you done any research on Optics? I'll buy the holosun 570 if nothing else for my m&p5.7 but I am having a hard time finding alternative red/green dot Optics. Also having a hard time finding the 6-32x1/2 screws needed for the 507 if I go with it.
I think that you meant the Holosun 507K. Freedom Gorilla sells the 6-32x1/2 screws if you already have the optic. I believe that they will supply the screws free of charge if you purchase the Holosun optic from them. As for me I am going to go with the Holosun 407K, which has a 6 MOA dot size. The larger dot is much better for pistols for closer distances. If you are mounting the Red Dot on a rifle then the 2 MOA dot is better. Hope that helps.
This pistol runs off a gas system not blow back. It also has a rotating locking barrel that doesn’t unlock until the round almost leaves the barrel with increases accuracy and greatly reduces recoil. It’s nothing like most pistols on the market today!
