as far as the shoulder pads, there are 3d printing sites that sell just the icon without the pad, so you can glue it onto blank pad, which especially helps with monopose kits where you would have to shave off the entire pad
I'm a Deathwatch fan boy but I still cry at how many upgrade sprues I've bought 😂 some of my models just have the left arm painted silver because I'm a wimp lol!
Loved the video, already had all the kits but didn’t think about using Cassius for veterans or converting Primaris into veterans either. Hopefully this will save proof me from the eventual kill team “Primarisifcation”.
Currently running Deathwatch as a Space Marines +1 @1000pts; essentially using vets as a better tactical squad. 10 vets with 6 swords/bolters and 4 infernus heavy bolters led by an honor vehement bolter/sword captain and a fire discipline bolter/sword lieutenant ride to the midfield in a rhino. 2 dev squads hang back in razorbacks with missile launchers and plasma cannons. A squad of jump intercessors are kept in reserve to drop down and cause problems in the opponent's backline.
Deathwatch came into 40k in 3rd Ed! A Kill Team was very attractive, and had special bolter ammo (that didn't explode on the user!) Look up an old White Dwarf battle report featuring Owen Rees in the newly released 4th Ed! That is how Deathwatch should be, no Primaris around then, so why now?
Deathwatch is also one of my "one of these days" project ideas: staying all pre-Primaris, using all the unique older sculpts and with every other single model converted. GW also seems to not know what to do with DW, like at all. The range got nothing but a Primaris "upgrade sprue" since 8th edition as far as I know. Yes, they have access to the rest of the ever-expanding SM range, but unique to DW are: a character, a flyer, the Veterans and a set of unique models from a boxed game - and all of that is from 7th edition. Hell, their only special character - which had a frickin' plastic model! - got removed from the range. It seems to me like one of those cases where the army had a "studio champion" - somebody high enough in the hierarchy really enthusiastic about the faction that is - at some point during 6th/7th edition, and said individual has left GW some time after the inital range got made. And now nobody there has any idea where to go with what is around, but nobody is willing to cull them either. I guess "Agents of the Imperium/Inquisition" is their best bet by now.

I think the deathwatch's detachment is very underated. Teleportation is such an incredible strat with interceptors getting multiple 3 inch deep strikes allowing them to snipe a unit and remain out of range.
I like the teleportation but I have problems with the special ammo now that it only works with the bolt weapons. I have come to prefer the Gladius detachment for my Deathwatch
@ChristianVonCarmian40kVtuber I've stuck with Black Spear because it's THE Deathwatch detachment but The Ammunition taking up 3 of our 6 strats hurts my soul
@@ChristianVonCarmian40kVtuber I don’t believe you need to change your list that much to benefit from the special ammo. I run bolter inceptors, aggressors, and atleast 2 kill teams with a slight skew towards bolters.
Of note for anybody into the DW shoulderpads on other kits: keep in mind that only the multipart kits allow for easy shoulderpad changes, the monopose models often have them moulded on instead. Not a problem with the Combat Patrol or many other kits, but there are boxes with. Also: why go cheap on the shoulderpads anyway? It is one of the very few things actually differentiating DW models from others. The parts also look distinct and unify the army on a visual level. Do not feel FORCED to do them, but maybe think twice about whether DW is really for you if you want to skip this element of the army.
Deathwatch is a finesse army now, I think that's why people don't have success with them. You gotta play them more like a teleporting dynamite-scalpel rather than brute force. The math hammer is also strong for DW, you need to know exactly what your Proteus team can kill with 1 CP and when to split fire. Also the Long Vigil weapons are good. They got above average stats and allows us to use our old varied models without having to rebuild everything each edition.
