I would be shocked if they stay as their own army. It just makes sense if they absorbed into Codex Imperial Agents/Inquisition/what ever it will be called
As someone who jumped into DW in 9th, the unit changes moving into 10th were -extremely- frustrating. All of my Primaris kill teams were rendered invalid, because GW decided that having a 5/5 composition was morally wrong and now you had to have a 5/2/2/1 composition so they could sell more boxes. I really hope they sort DW out and actually give us an updated upgrade sprue, 2 terminator pads per sprue is criminal.
Honestly if grey knights and Deathwatch get rolled into the imperial agents codex then hopefully you would get the option to play imperial agents as it's own army. Then on top of that give the grey knights and Deathwatch there own detachments. Then the cherry on the top would be too have imperial agents also ally in sisters of battle sense we know they have ties to the inquisition. That way you could have an army that features Grey knights, Deathwatch, allied Sisters of Battle, and Allied knights with an Inquisitor as your warlord. Might be an odd mish mash army but it would be kinda cool.
Sisters are are already a mess of ecclesiarchy, war crimes in the form of people and the sisters of battle; inquisition and whatever else the current agents of the imperium have. It wouldn't be that much different
Now some say that long vigil ranged weapons as a profile is dumb…this is true…did I take this opportunity to give my death watch units triple barrel sawed off auto cannons and other crazy combi weapons…this is also true
Well I just found your videos online. Quite enjoy the insight on Deathwatch listing here. My own custom chapter of Astartes was designed to use the Deathwatch ruleset since the first true Deathwatch codex launch, and it does sting a little to see the watch suffering to rules neglect. Another option that a lot of folks are not mentioning for the DW is that GW could go with a new boxset for them. Something along the way that they went with the Dark Angels and Black Templars. Maybe a way to reignite the love for the Watch and increase sales. I personally have been playing around with friends using a homebrew watch dex. One unit that could happen is a primarisified version of the Watch Veterans kit (See older Primaris Intercessor Veterans with options to take various special weapons in the kit (like what is already on some of the other Tacticus armored marines) like how they made Sternguard primaris. This new squad would work in a KT that would have access to the JumpPack Intercessors, outriders, and maybe even the Terminators (if that was to happen we'd see the death of the older Veterans kit). Either way I really hope to see DW getting some real fun stuff in the future.... have a great day!
I have a theory regarding if they get merged with Imperial Agents - I would honestly suspect in that circumstance you would have entire armies of Imperial Agents possible, and probably would be able to ally in normal Space Marines and or Imperial Guard too; probably like Brood Brothers but maybe even in a higher percentage. My reasoning is twofold there: 1) Genestealer Cults show that it can work and be an interesting addition, and allying in those two factions are very fluffy and fitting for an army that is overall Inquisition themed. It basically lets you carry on as you have more or less; or branch out into a more mixed inquisitorial force. 2) Age of Sigmar, Hedonites of Slaanesh - you can have half your army is Slaves to Darkness units. Sot here's also precedent for being able to take a *lot* of units outside your codex at least withing the GW umbrella. This of course would be in addition to being able to be used as Allies (I'd assume). I don't play Deathwatch so I'll hope for whatever you all want! This is just how it seems like it could work if they were to go down that route. Not that I think it'd be at all preferable.
I think its worth noting that custodes is a merged codex, its really talons of the emperor. Deathwatch being merged with grey knights and imperial agents is very unlikely, grey knight just dont mesh well with the ither factions. But i do think an imperial agents and deathwatch merge is a lot more likely, and i dont think either side would lose much
You say that but I'm assuming you weren't around for the era of Codex: Witch hunters and Codex: Daemon hunters. These codexes gave the option to either field the Sisters of Battle and Grey Knights (depending on the codex) as a unique army OR field them as an Ordos army (Ordo Hereticus and Ordo Malleus respectively) which allowed you to field a mixed army of, say, units of Grey Knights, Imperial Guard + Vehicles and inquisitors + Retinue OR field them as single units in other armies as allies. Sadly Codex: Alien Hunters was never released. So there is precedent for both Grey Knights and Death Watch being used in that way in the tabletop. This was back during a fluffier time with the rules, so fielding a Grey Knights unit allowed the opponent to field a single Daemon unit as an ally to explain why the Grey Knights were actually fighting on the field which could include a Greater Daemon at higher points costs. IIRC Deathwatch and Grey Knights are the two least played Imperium factions, so rolling them both into an Agents of the Imperium codex done in the above style via Detachments (one for pure Grey Knights, one for Pure Deathwatch, one Ordo Malleus detachment, one Ordo Xenos Detachment) is probably going to upset the least amount of people.
If the Deathwatch does get combined into an Imperial Agents codex they might still use all the normal SM units. They do use all of those units. Maybe one could then use all the other misc. imperial units as a whole srmy with no special restrictions.
6:20 I will do that! Deathwatch Started out with so many cool IDEAS. A Really Flavour Driven Army that is and was amazing. But now with the Streamlining...
In the latest Space Marine 2 game vids they show someone from the Deathwatch falling from an aircraft after being attacked by a swarm of Tyranid. I wonder if they will time a Deathwatch update around the time of the release of that game?
I wish we could go back to 7th with them. They weren't good but sure were fun. Just killteams with fragcannons in droppods. Though sometimes having a melee deathball in a Corvis Blackstar. Heavy Thunderhammers were so fun.
Thanks to your good self, I've decided in the late summer on building/painting my own deathwatch force. My 1st spacemarine army, I've always been a xenos man necrons & nids. Hopefully, the redacted book will make it clear if we remain our own codex or merge with imperium agents. I dont mind either. Honestly, I'd just id like to have an idea. I also hope a vetran primaris Kill team squad happens in bladeguard, sternguard & terminators would be cool. Really love your videos on sisters/genestealers. Also, they were definitely contenders, lol. Just like the idea of kitbashing & customising marines without picking a particular chapter.
And here im sitting on 7000+ points of deathwatch!!! Still I play the primaris models as every other marine army viewing the deathwatch look just as a colour scheme.
Might be a hot take idk but I really wouldnt mind DW and Greyknights being rolled into imperium. Space marines have enough unique ways to play already, its bloated and frustrating especially seeing fun unique armies like Harliquins get folded into aeldari when deathwatch exist.
Carmian has made the point that you can just use legends models outside of tournaments and, I mostly agree accept Legends doesn’t get updated once it's released, I think if Legends got updated the way tourney legal stuff does, it would be way less divisive, you could stick all the fun stuff from older editions in legends, with their weird overly complex rules from previous editions because Legends doesnt have to be perfectly balanced
I'm eagerly anticipating the release of the Codex Imperial Agents, the first of its kind. It's unfortunate that the veterans share many design elements with Primaris units, albeit with smaller arms. Their time with us was too short.
Since gw is married to this stupid idea of no wargear costs, they will probably have to rewrite all the datasheets for DW (again) because none of them in the index make sense. I hope that is why they haven't touched pts for them yet, because they know the units will all be completely changed soon-ish.
My be is more easy just take de dw detachment and gk detachment and just include them as they are into a new agents of imperium codex, as well as few ordo detachment, then just include angent of imperium keyword into each dw and gk (and mai be sisters) datasheet, easy with no drama
"a little bit of inconsistency" ... the only thing GW is consistent about is being inconsistent. I will continue working on my - proper oldschool Marines only - DW army, but only as a modelling and painting project. GW clearly has no idea what they want to do with DW as a faction, and probably never had.
A ton of Data sheets got super canned this edition and im just starting to notice. One of the worst offenders is Vanguard Veterans with Jump Packs. In the picture below the Data Sheet it literally shows them with Thunder Hammers and Lighting Claws but they only get "Vanguard Veteran Close Combat Weapon" as one stat block. Despite Thunder Hammers and Lighting Claws still having rules on literally the next page in the Assault Terminators Data sheet.
Also the Land Raider Crusader and Redeemer both have explosive device's on the front above the tracks that have been removed from the data sheet all together but still featured on the model
10th edition is all about what comes on the sprue. Which is why battle sisters still get multi meltas. (note GW this does not mean I want you to take away our multi meltas please I beg of you)
Ii still don’t think it would be a big deal if they gave back the storm bolter back to the veterans. I do wish that the mace had a different profile or maybe if they wanted to keep it simple make a “power weapon and shield” melee damage profile to maybe give the option something to make it feel different.
After going to all the trouble to secure exactly 2 aggressors and 2 inceptors (kitbashes)... I'm now seriously considering picking up two more torsoes so i can build three of each in case they mess the teams up again and/or i have to go to playing generic space marines 😂 I think at least one of the new teams (as long as they exist *at all*) will serve as a home for DW vet bikers, just upsize the base and use them as outriders/fortis bikers.

(but BT just got new models, so they get to stick around more than they have any right to.) Death Watch would have been my pick over BT, but with the die cast as they are, DW has no reason to stick around as it currently exists. Sad for DW players, but good for Space Marine bloat.
@@AlaskanWolf16 The one thing black templars has is the AWESOME aesthetic it has. Deathwatch just have fancy shoulders and tacticool stuff added to their armor. You could just sell an upgrade sprue.

No grey knight/sisters allies for the love of the Emperor. Grey Knights are known to bathe in the blood of Sisters
