You just discovered one of the best rock vocalists ever...The Rising in the East Live from 2005 gives a good look at just how great Rob Halford still sounds
No she hasn't, she's already reacted to him
💯 true. 🇮🇹🇧🇪🇪🇺
Plus this is a very young version of him & the group. Judas Priest gets better & better and ages like fine
wine. At least they did for a good long time...
😍😍😍
I saw them in Virginia Beach maybe in 2016 or 17, I can’t remember. But he still sounded good, and still rode a Harley up onto the stage. Was like a small dream come true for me.
Run of the Mill is also one of my favourite early Priest songs
That one is often overlooked yes..and also "Here come the tears" and "Evening Star"
Thanks so much for sharing
Their most famous song from this era is probably Victim of Changes from the album Sad Wings of Destiny (1976), it really showcases Rob's vocal range. He has so many different "voices" from mellow to maniacal and he claims to have never had any vocal training, plus he is an amazing front man. Check out the live footage from their Screaming for Vengeance tour, "Live Vengeance '82", his performance (along with the rest of the band) is incredible. Great reaction as always!
Thanks so much for sharing💕
As much fan I am of Victim of Changes, I always thought they played that particular song way too fast live at various occasions. The album version will always be my superior version. My favourite showcase of Rob will always be the album version of Dreamer/Deceiver.
So awesome. Early priest is fire!
🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
😍😍😍
Love their early stuff...around 1976 I saw them in Virginia at Louie's Rock City. A little bar that sat a couple hundred people. Details are hazy but I always loved it when I'd see a band in such a small venue, then see them a few years later in a sold out 60,000 seat stadium.
@@AaliyahCapili you're so pretty 😍
Thanks for replying to me 😊
The evolution of this song is a microcosm of the evolution of the band. They started out with more psychedelic rock in their hippy era and evolved to a harder sound in their metal era, as you saw with Painkiller. They have a great range of musical ability, just as Rob has a huge range in his vocal ability. Great review to watch! You were even more surprised than you were with Bruce Dickinson! Check out "Victim of Changes" some time.
Interesting they called themselves a “progressive blues” band, back in those days.
@@buzzbomb67 Oh that is interesting. I didn't know that
@@chrishoffman2489 Its funny, cuz we always think its like the term Heavy Metal was there from the beginning, as a genre, from the moment John Kay recorded Born To Be Wild. Even I feel like it was, but heavy metal (note no caps) wasnt a name, it was a description. Up til the late 70s, maybe even the early 80s, all those hard and heavy bands of the late 60s thru the 70s were described as heavy metal Rock, basically meaning the 60s meaning of “heavy”… something awesome, profound, potent, not plodding, or slow, though it often was. It wasnt just English bands Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Purple, it was also UFO, Pink Floyd, the Stones, Vanilla Fudge, The Who, Humble Pie, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, Blue Cheer, Scorpions, Montrose, Amboy Dukes, and Ted Nugent, AC/DC, Rainbow. Everything hard and heavy was heavy metal Rock, and interchangeably, Hard Rock.
It wasnt until the 80s, really, that music critics and stores starting calling/categorizing it as it’s own specific genre, and from there it split and split into sub-genres. I mean, they were already there, kinda of, but as movements, not genres, specifically. Even Punk was a genre before Metal was. And it was with Judas Priest, and their album Hell Bent For Leather (or elsewhere, Killing Machine), where they stripped away much of the blues influences (though the structures were still there), and they dropped the heavy, just leaving it as metal.
Lol I remember, I bought the album Mr Roboto by Styx, and my mim asked me if it was that nasty heavy metal rock music. I laughed, cuz Id also bout Scorpions Blackout, which actually IS, and she didnt question that one. That was right about the time when the media was starting to spread rumors about how bad heavy metal music was ruining the youth.
Oh thanks for sharing the info and for your feedback too
@@buzzbomb67 I have been a Priest fan since 1978, I was 13 at the time. I always saved my money to buy albums and while at the record store I came across the Priest album "Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine". I was drawn to the cover so I decided to buy it. I got it home put it on the turntable and 30 some minutes later I knew I was going to be a Metal Head for life. Even thou the term Metal or Metal Head wasn't a thing at the time. I quickly became a fan of the Scorpions soon after when I bought their "Lovedrive" album. I remember my friend and I counting down the days until a new Priest or Scorpions album was going to be released, making sure we would get it the very day it came out.
One of the Greatest Metal / Rock singer ever. He also did opera before rock
And another great review by a very beautiful lady. Thank you
Rob was Classically Trained. (opera). Also one of their trademarks is they will blend or merge a lot of Rob's high notes (When singing) right into the exact same high note on the guitar. It's as if the vocals and the guitar meld into one. Sometimes it is hard to tell the vocal notes from the guitar notes. THX for doing this.
Thanks for sharing
Just going to say, I'm not sure where thos idea that Rob is opera trained or classically trained came from, but I've seen it often online in last 5 years. There's no evidence of this. Rob does not mention it himself. He was in his church choir though, I'm not sure in what capacity or for how long. This I believe is the extent of his training prior to his career. He's never attended music school/conservatoire or had formal voice training (beyond choir in his youth, and perhaps some lessons during his career). I think this idea of him being opera/classical trained is just a myth spread but without any substance. Rob is a great singer, we don't need to make up him having been an "opera singer" (which I have also seen online lol) to state that. I think had Rob pursued an operatic career, he probably would have done well given his vocal gifts and range. But, he also would not have had the flexibility to do his own thing.
I highly recommend incorporating the metal scream into daily conversation.
😊
Sich a powerful and magnificent performance!! Judas Priest never disappoint and Rob is truly a Metal God!!! I adored your reaction my Dearest 🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much😍😍😍
@AaliyahCapili It is my pleasure my Dearest. 🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️
Judas Priest (KK Downing/Glenn Tipton) and Iron Maiden (Adrian Smith/Dave Murray) both had a two guitar attack and frequently allowed both to shine
Thanks for sharing
This was Judas Priest in their early days in 1975, promoting their debut album 'Rocka rolla' and appearing on BBC Television for the first time... The song 'Dreamer deceiver/ Deceiver' would appear on their 2nd album 'Sad wings of destiny' in 1976... (The late) John Hinch (drums) did this performance w/ Rob Halford (vocals), Glenn Tipton & K.K. Downing (guitars) and Ian Hill (bass) ... Hinch was soon fired and replaced by drummer Alan Moore, who recorded 'Sad wings of destiny'... Moore was fired in 1977.
As u can see and hear, Judas Priest were still developing musically and were dressed rather fashionably between 1974 and 1977... They eventually donned leather and studs outfits by 1978/ '79 and became this groundbreaking heavy metal band by 1980. Guitarist Glenn Tipton had just joined in 1974 and he was already becoming the key figure in Judas Priest as a songwriter and band leader (he was a few yrs older).
Vocalist Rob Halford never got any formal training as a singer... he just learned in local Birmingham bands. His sister Sue Halford (who was bassist Ian Hill's then-girlfriend) recommended him around 1973 after their original singer Al Atkins left the band... Guitarist K.K. Downing recalled being impressed by Rob's vocals and said that he was exactly the voice that Priest needed - he could sing long, hard and consistently... When Judas Priest was huge in the 80's, Rob Halford had developed a serious drinking problem. His sister Sue revealed years later that she went to shows where she knew that Rob had too much to drink, but he would do the whole set to her amazement. He truly set the bar high for standards by which heavy metal vocalists had to live up to in the studio and in concert.
Rob Halford ended up in rehab in 1986 after a suicide attempt following years of alcohol and drug abuse... He finally cleaned up his act and Priest's producer Tom Allom remarked that Rob actually sounded even better after he gave up drinking. Rob concluded that he was struggling as a gay man in the public spotlight, unable to indulge in his lifestyle... and that drove him to self-medicate and addictions. It was not a huge secret that he was gay, but he finally came out in 1998 as a solo artist and has been in a committed relationship since the 90's.
Rob quit Judas Priest in 1992 and formed the aggressive metal band Fight... In 1998, he released the album 'Voyeurs' under the name 2wo. It was a more industrial rock project and it failed commercially... He then formed the band Halford in 2000 and released 2 more studio albums before reuniting w/ Judas Priest in 2004... To this day, he is still the iconic metal singer often called the 'Metal God'.
Thank you very very much for sharing all of these, much appreciated
Yeh well what do you know! Lol 😊
Alan Moore wasn't fired, he quit because of the band's bad financial situation at the time. They only started making money after moving to CBS Records on their next album.
@@ferrreira Not true... Alan Moore was still in the band when Judas Priest was signed to CBS Records in 1977.
Roger Glover recalled the band attempting to record their 3rd album 'Sin after sin' without a producer and failing... They asked Glover to produce the album and Alan Moore had just been fired because he wasn't meeting the band's expectations in the studio.
They wanted a better drummer and studio pro Simon Phillips did the drums but declined to join Judas Priest...
Les Binks did the tour and joined the band by 1978 until 1979.
@@sumonjamal1653 oh, okay. Makes sense. Which is a shame cause I love his drumming style on Sad Wings
I was waiting for the reaction when Rob belts out the high register scream. Rob Halford is one of the best vocalist in rock/metal.
😍
Rob is now 72 & still able to hit the high notes
Rob Halford has one of the best Heavy Metal vocals of all time! In the 80s Judas Priest was a force to be reckoned with! Glad you love Judas Priest Cutie! Go down this rabbit hole. You won't be disappointed! 🔥🔥🔥🔥💋💋💋💋❤️❤️❤️❤️🦊🦊🦊🦊🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Pure, genuine reaction. Looks like you loved the song, and the vocals!
1- Favorite Priest song. 2- She may be the most beautiful person on the planet.

Yes what a great reaction to Halford vocals
Thanks for watching too
He is truly amazing. I’ve never heard a singer do what he does in the song Freewheel Burning. In it he sings really fast and articulately.
🥰
Rob ....now there is a crazy voice....JP kills.

Absolutely The greatest Metal singer to ever pick up a mic. Halfords range is phenomenal. Pretty sure he hits notes only dogs can hear. Now listen to their new single released this week called Panic Attack. This is what He sounds like at 72, absolutely legendary. This is why He is called the Metal God.
Thanks so much for sharing
@@AaliyahCapili he hits a b6 in this song, along with 2 other song, victim of changes and painkiller
Great review! A superbly talented singer, best in the business and still kicking notes out at 71/72 years of age and on the latest single Panic Attack! He has never had formal training and every time I see professional singers review his vocals, they are often totally confused on how he does it! Power and versatility and if you take a closer look at their back catalogue the diversity of his range is just incredible. I first saw them live in 1979 and it just blew my mind and they have been my band ever since. For his diverse range, check out Last Rose of Summer, Victim of Changes, Beyond the Realms of Death, Delivering the Goods, Blood Red Skies, Before the Dawn and Desert Plains. Most of these can be tracked down live via You Tube and Judas Priest challenges.
Thank you very much for all of your recommendations
Triumph, "lay it on the line" or "Majic Power" just to mention a couple of great songs you should listen to. Thx for the reaction / review, nice job.
Thanks so much for sharing too
This very early phase of Judas Priest career was a hybrid of hard rock for the time mixed with some progressive rock elements and of course spearheaded with Rob's incredible vocal delivery that just drove home each song like a silver bullet. It wouldn't be too much longer that priest would be adorned with the kind of hippie Regalia they're wearing here and moved into their own harder image the day found for themselves and has subsequently gone on to be very much the heavy metal uniform over the last decades, just another way in which they were ahead of their time we're very much ahead of their time.
Thanks for sharing🌺
Such a great song! I would also recommend "Run of the Mill" which was on their first album; such a melancholy song with lows, incredible highs and everything in between. I love to watch younger people discovering the music I grew up with. Thanks for the video.
I second that motion
That's my absolute favourite Priest tune! I'd love to see a reaction to it!
It's my favorite as well and not one of the common reactions tunes for reasons I can't understand@@hemlock399

You should hear the album version on Sad Wings of Destiny. This was great, but it was a TV show and they took several minutes out of the song, including some vocals. Actually, SWoD was probably the best album of Rob without screaming. "Epitaph" is just vocals with piano accompaniment.
Thanks for your recommendation
Two distinctly different rhythmic parts: from simple 4/4 to 6/8(or 12/8) compound time signature. from a straight rhythmic feel to a syncopated 6/8 feel. This shift between common and compound time makes the magic!
Nice. I wish i understood music on this level. I'm only capable of moving my head back and forth as i drive just a little bit faster than the speed limit. Have a good day.

Painkiller by Judas Priest will blow your mind

She has already done it.
Even listening to Rob Halford speak is an event unto itself - British folk (and Irish too) speak very melodically, and Rob is no exception. Once you hear him talk for awhile in an interview you can play back his speaking voice in your head almost at will. Absolute legend.

Rob could basically tell you what he bought at the grocery store, and it’d be the most fascinating thing you’ll hear all week.
You must listen to the Sad Wings Of Destiny album in full. This is from that album. Judas Priest has been around for years but thos is my favorite album

Love the album. It's fucking beautiful.

I know everything Judas Priest and you picked the best performance ever in my opinion. It was before their success and the studio version wasn't even recorded yet. This is the best version musically, vocally and performance wise on stage is beyond exceptional

Judas Priest is probably my favorite band of all time. Their Screaming for Vengeance singlehandedly inspired me to start playing guitar. Glenn Tipton in particular, though K.K. is right there too. Then I went back and checked out their earlier stuff. Lots of changes in the band's sound, but none of them are bad.

Wow, going back to the pioneering music of metal gods Judas Priest, this is from their first album and shows them already doing compelling music. From their next album, Sad Wings of Destiny, try Victim of Changes, the original, studio version.

Hello🌺
This is super early in their career before they really cemented their style. But Rob was/is a great singer.
Thanks for the info
Judas priest has gone through many changes as a 60's band all the way up to 2023 is shocking there changes like clothing styles from Flared pants to Denim jeans to Rob Halford's favorite leather. So did the music style. Although Rob did not form Judas Priest he officially Joined 1974. There early music reflected those times of discovery adding Folksy elements. During the eighties they became more fun and uplifting more Rocky. During the Ninties they became even more heavier with screaming vocals brutal power and faster guitar and drums. They made a few more changes since but remained similar.

I think the most Epic part of the song is just it's complete rawness. This is before they really had a Genre. It is amazing to see how their skills and styles have changed over the decades.
