Hi from Falkirk. I was at that gig in London and I'm visible in the front row. This is a good performance but please please please listen to Blood Red Skies from the same gig. His voice is impeccable.
Then listen to the new album Invincible Shield. His voice is even more amazing. Go on, I dare you. Then get back to me.

Their brand new album came out on March 8th and while it’s a studio album and there can be trickery, Halford sounds amazing! The album and the songs are amazing. Especially knowing Rob was 72 during the recording!

I think only good things of Rob Halford. I promise.
The one thing I don't like so much about later JP live performances is that Halford tends to cut phrases short and change the vibe of the songs quite a bit. I don't blame him though. I guess it would be boring to perform the same songs in the same way for 30-40 years. :D

Rob used to do drugs and drink, especially after a relationship of his ended badly. But since about 1980 he's been completely sober. That's why his voice is still as powerful as it is
No offence to Guns n' Roses and Bon Jovi, they're iconic, but neither of their singers can even SING at this point. And those bands are younger than Priest is. Rob Halford is 10 years older than both Axl Rose and Jon Bon Jovi and his vocals still hold up to this day.
Clearly the metal god. I'd die for Priest

Another great singer that still sounds great is Dave Vanian of the Punk/Goth band "The Damned". He's been their singer for 48 years and still hits the high notes as they are touring North America right now and the fan videos I'm seen are impressive. A band in their 60's that are still tight, brilliant and obviously still love playing songs for the fans they have played hundreds of times before. Seeing them next week and am totaly excited to see living legends!!!

  • @sumonjamal1653
    @sumonjamal1653 3 месяца назад +3

'Turbo Lover' is one of Judas Priest's more commercial songs... From their 'Turbo' album in 1986, it was the closest Priest came to becoming an 80's 'hair band'... It was the year Bon Jovi and Europe were taking off commercially... Motley Crue, Dokken and Kiss (non-makeup era) were peaking... ZZ Top had a new synthesizer-heavy sound; so did Rush... I guess Judas Priest wanted to get to that next level of popularity.
There were setbacks - Rob Halford attempted suicide after years of struggling w/ addictions in '86 and ended up in the hospital & rehab ("I hit the wall severely..." Halford later recalled) ... Thankfully, Halford quit drinking and returned to the band sober to record the 'Turbo' album...
Initially, it was supposed to be called 'Twin Turbos' w/ 2 discs - 1 for the commercial songs, 1 for the heavy metal songs... but their record label wouldn't go for it. So, the commercial disc 'Turbo' was slated for release first in '86... the second metal disc would be recorded and released in 1988 titled 'Ram it down'... A live record 'Priest Live' was released in between in 1987.
For the 'Turbo' album, guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing added synthesizers and effects to their guitars and used a drum machine for quite a few tracks - apparently, then-drummer Dave Holland was not in the best shape health-wise and wasn't used extensively in the studio for both records... Producer Tom Allom recalled that Rob Halford's voice was 'unreal' and it got even better in the studio after he had quit drinking... The songs on 'Turbo' were not as menacing as past Priest albums and Halford was even singing about relationships on the songs - 'Out in the cold' ... 'Locked in' ... They even got an offer to contribute the song 'Reckless' to the 'Top Gun' movie soundtrack, but they declined. They regretted that decision; the movie 'Top Gun' and it's soundtrack became a massive hit and Priest had missed an opportunity...
Despite Priest's popularity in the 80's, 'Turbo' only went gold (half million copies sold) in the US, charted at #17 (#33 in the UK) and did not see the platinum+ sales numbers of other 80's bands like Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Tesla, etc.
Judas Priest was still playing arenas on tour and filmed a Dallas, Texas show for the 'Priest live' concert video & live album.
In 1988, Judas Priest returned to their heavy metal roots on 'Ram it down' ... and it was barely promoted by their record label (1 single - a cover of Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode") and still sold gold... but Dave Holland (drums) quit after the tour... That led into Judas Priest being sued in Nevada for allegedly inspiring a grisly double s-ui-cide pact and going on trial in 1990... After they were acquitted, they released their angriest album 'Painkiller' in '90 w/ Scott Travis (drums) joining and were back on tour in 1991.

He does amazing compared to so many younger out there now in other genres especially who struggle live. So many things to consider when you watch a live performance. Like how long have they been touring at this point and how many shows in. Is this song early in the set list so? Has his voice loosened up and found his mark vocally and has the sound man tweaked the board for the venue with all those people inside after set up and rehearsals were done empty. He and the band still give you what you paid and came to see!

  • @UnrealTemplier

The song is great but for vocal impression/analysis it's boring. I recommend you to listen to "Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver" (it's actually one song in two; only the studio version please! - Rob is absolute vocal genius there), Epitaph (young Rob doing some crazy vocals) and may be Blood Red Skies from the same 2012 show (old Rob doing some crazy vocals again!). And the song Desert Plains (only the live version from 1982 show 'cause it's unique) to the dessert.

Saw them live earlier this year, and I was impressed by the intelligent way he's looking after his voice now he's in his 70s. He was still hitting the high notes beautifully, but using technology to sustain them so he didn't have to. (He wasn't hiding it, he was lowering the mic when he finished singing, so I don't consider that a 'cheat'.) There were also some rearrangements so guitars took some of the less important high notes. It just made sense, and it was a fantastic performance.

Im in the cover band group. Watching the RnR hall fame performance with KK was fantastic!. Rob and Ian need to pull their heads out their butts and bring him back! I watched alot of videos from the last tour. There were songs Rob nailed and some 🤮. Even seen songs he started terrible and half way through he was perfect.

Rob still sounds great. Live he often hits the big notes but uses effects to keep it going on longer (perfectly bloody reasonable if you ask me). It is interesting to hear your views on singers and how they compare through the years.
When I was young (a long long time ago😂) I used to play my metal records slightly louder than was totally neccessary leading to my auld man coming into my room with the gentle admonition of "turn that bloody noise down"😂 quite a lot. Only twice did he come in to make comments about how much he liked the voice of the singers (my dad was an old style crooner who did great Matt Munro/Bing Croby style vocals) and those 2 singers were Rob Halford ("bloody hell, he has some range" if I remember the quote) and a certain Ronnie James Dio ("now that boy can sing" was I think the comment).
It made me so happy to hear my dad (who I knew was a good singer) telling me what I liked wasn't all "noise".
Can I make a wee suggestion for a future video (I am not a paid member so if that puts me right down a list I am OK). Howabout doing 2 videos back to back. Firstly Ronnie Dio And The Red Caps doing "An Angel Is Missing" from away back in 1961 (ruclips.net/video/ew8MUT00aK0/видео.html) and then Black Sabbath doing "Bible Back" at Wacken in 2009 (ruclips.net/video/kSWsNsmS7cw/видео.html) the year before Ronie sadly died. So nearly 50 years apart.
As a massive fan of Dio I would love to hear your thoughts on the differeing styles of vocals between the 2 as well as how his voice changed. I appreciate if it is not possible but it would for me be great to hear a singer like yourself discuss the differences.
As always great video. All the best to you.

One of the best songs to hear Rob excel in his lower register is 'Worth Fighting For'. It's a beautifully modulated vocal performance from a mature artist.

I'd like you to react to Highlander (The One) by Lost Horizon and Dozing Green by Dir en Grey (preferably live)

They have a new album out. I highly recommend checking out the first single, “Panic Attack.”

To this day people smash the 'Turbo' record as being Priest's worst. But as you can see here, whenever they bust out this song the crowd goes nuts for it.

I don't care for Locked in or turbo lover but the rest of the album is good. Wild nights hot and crazy days great party song.

You don't know what you're talking about. In fact, Rob lost his voice a long time ago. On the studio album, you can hear a processed voice. Just watch the latest live performances of Painkiller, recorded by fans on the phone, and you can hear Rob Halford wheezing tragically. I'm a big fan of JP, but let's not make propaganda. You can't cheat old age.

You might not be able to cheat old age but Rob is doing just fine. Also, I have been a singer for twenty years and I have a music masters. I am the definition of ‘knows what they are talking about’, but don’t let that get in the way of your lil tantrum because you aren’t capable 💋

I saw them live last week. Yes they used some backing tracks for the vocals, but most of the time it was Rob singing. I’d say he still got it

Definitely one of the greatest in metal. Have you ever listened to another ageless rock singer by the name of Glenn Hughes? He's a soulful vocalist that has blended blues, funk, soul, and metal into his catalog and can still sing like he did in his 30's. He's in his 70's and is one of my favs but unfortunately no one ever covers him which is a shame. Great video.
