It’s been said that hearing Painkiller as your first Judas Priest song is like being fired out of a cannon into a hurricane. They’ve been making music for about 50 years, but it’s likely their most intense song.
it is THE definition of pure Heavy Metal, as is the live version of Screaming for Vengeance from the Memphis video, Halford at peak power :) of course after Rob and Ronnie, all other metal vocalists came, no matter what style, they were the first :)
@@felicitydarhk2818 Have to agree!
Desert Plains (live vengeance 82) for me the best live version complete with crowd singalong👍🔥
@@nikkihayes5411 Rob's highs in there are really not of this world ... there is a reason he has earned the nickname "The Metal God" . :)
Victim of Changes is a much better song and a better highlight of Rob Halford's abilities, but I do agree that Painkiller is very intense.
Rob is called the "Metal God" for good reason
🥰🥰🥰
Many bands are heavy, but Judas Priest, is metal.
The most METAL song ever! \m/ \m/
Here's a cover of it you may not have heard: ruclips.net/video/QQu9PQmmHKI/видео.html&ab_channel=DPAT
🥰
Halford isn't just a heavy metal icon, but also a humble person and a gentleman. Also he has balls of steel for daring to come out in 1998 when it wasn't as common for celebrities to do so and almost unheard of for a metal frontman.
😍😍😍
No doubt. And we didn't stop liking him after that: he's still one of the most badass singers in metal, so my JP fan friends and I were like "Oh. Ok. *shrug*" 🤘
I agree about Rob Halford coming out. The best part was , we still loved him. And always will. Love you Judas Priest! Before my husband died, we had gone to see them 13 times !
As Lemmy Kilmister once said, in terms of balls of steel that belongs to "Little Richard, imagine being a gay black growing up in Macon, Georgia in the 30s, 40s and 50s"
Embarrassing!
He is in his 70s and still touring. A true gift to us that love his music. Hard to beat a 4 octave voice.
😍😍😍
I saw them live and easily the best concert I’ve been to they’re incredible
Your smile just brightened my day. I'm a 52 yr. old gigging musician / vocalist. I got to hear all of these songs for the 1st time when they were released - along with the rest of the world. Aging sometimes has an upside. Best of luck with your channel.
Thank you very very much Mr. Chad💕
If you're an old school fan of classic BNWHM (as I am) and you haven't discovered these ladies, then you're missing out. ruclips.net/video/QQu9PQmmHKI/видео.html&ab_channel=DPAT
This song is complex, fast, high production and performance. One of the best of all time
🥰🥰🥰
It is amazing to see someone listening to The Painkiller for the first time and actually headbanging with a grin on their face during the solo. When I heard this song for the first time, I just sat there petrified thinking "Oh God make it stop, I won't survive this". Took me a while to get used to this kind of sonic bombardment. This young lady is obviously very talented and actually can hear music
Thanks so much🌺
This is exactly my thought! For me it was definitely an acquired taste. Aaliyah’s blend of mind blown amazement, open mindedness, humility, confidence, knowledge and delight is perfect. I can’t stop binging on these reactions!
Halford is known from his very unique vocal style and he had a 6 octave vocal range in the early days of the band's career which lead to some of the most iconic vocal work heavy metal genre has even witnessed live.
Believe Bruce little higher that Halford but could be wrong
😍😍😍
@@tonyslicer7399his range is definitely not at Halfords. Take a listen to Dreamer/Deceiver, Savage, or Dissident Aggressor.
Bruce is a great singer but in terms of sustained ultra highs, not his thing.
@@AaliyahCapiliplease just listen to Victim of Changes or Dreamer/Deceiver. Just in your own, check them out. Great songs and Halford is incredible
The two guitar attack! Props to the high pitched metal scream, pain!
🥰
Rob Halford has blown out mics with his vocals
😍
Rob Halford of Judas Priest truly set the peak of the high scream in heavy metal... He set the stage for so many singers who heard his vocals and tried to emulate his style - King Diamond, Jon Oliva of Savatage, Geoff Tate of Queensryche, Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, etc. etc.
Rock n' roll music in the 60's did not have too many screamers... Little Richard was a howler from the 50's... but most 60's artists were like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Cream, The Doors, etc... Then came the 'Unholy Trinity' of British rock - Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin sang in a high pitch that often got him mischaracterized as 'gay'...but his powerful vocal delivery made Led Zeppelin a sensation by 1970... Black Sabbath debuted in 1970 and their vocalist Ozzy Osbourne had a delivery that could be morbid at one end... and powerful on the other... Ian Gillan joined Deep Purple in 1969 and transformed the band from a pop rock combo to a heavy rock band w/ his high screams and wailing delivery.
Judas Priest was a British rock band when Rob Halford joined in 1973 and his high range vocals elevated the band's intensity and finesse... It took a few years from their debut in 1974 until they broke big worldwide in 1980 w/ their 6th album 'British Steel'... their 1990 album 'Painkiller' was a sonic triumph for Priest when the media and some fans were saying that they were 'underperforming' in the metal scene by 1988.
In 1992, Rob Halford left Judas Priest to work on solo projects... he formed the band Fight, which released 2 albums... Then, he challenged himself musically w/ the industrial rock band 2wo and their only album 'Voyeurs' in 1998... Dissatisfied w/ his solo career, he returned to heavy metal in 2000 w/ the band Halford... In 2004, Judas Priest (who had recorded 2 album w/ vocalist Tim 'Ripper' Owens) announced that Rob Halford was reuniting w/ the band, and he has been w/ them since. He also put out some unique records, like the Christmas album "Winter songs' under the Halford name.
Thanks for sharing💕much appreciated
Ive been a Judas priest fan since British Steel album , and there will never nobody does it better then Rob Halford
🥰🥰🥰
see Aaliyah react to the Metal God Rob Halford in his prime is priceless. i love the video.
Thanks so much Mr. Henrique
Faith in new generations restored. Thank you
😍😍😍
Most metal singers aren't classic trained and they are the best😊 I think their raw talent shines.
😍😍😍
Haha, the reaction on your face was priceless!! Thank you. I completely forgot how intense Rob Halford could sing, he is truly incredible!
😍
You must hear "Victim Of Changes" and "Metal God's" also by Judas Priest.
Thanks for your recommendation
I love seeing people get their mind blown watching this for the first time 😂
🥰🥰🥰
Glad you enjoyed this song and Rob Halford's vocals. People like to throw Painkiller at reactors because of intensity and it's popularity. To get a full rounded appreciation of Judas Priest and Rob Halford's vocals, I'd recommend songs Dreamer/Deceiver & Deceiver (do both simultaneously), Diamonds & Rust and Victim of Changes Live from Unleashed in the East.
Aye. For all the badassery of "Painkiller," very much one of the greatest power metal songs of all times, it's basically Halford going at 11 100% of the time. Impressive for sure. One of my faves has always been "The Hellion/Electric Eye." "Take these Chains" is a great one too. One of my top Judas Priest songs has always been "Love Bites." I know it ain't Halford, but you gotta give Ripper his due. That song is badass, too.
Gahhhh. I'm gonna get corrected. Yes. My brain is currently defunct. I still love "Love Bites." I know it isn't Ripper. The one I am thinking of, is "Burn in Hell." And "Burn in Hell" is still an utterly badass song, and Ripper still deserves his due. >.>
@@peterworth9403 when Jugulator came out I actually had to read the liner notes, because on a couple tracks I couldn't quite tell if it was Rob or not, Tim Ripper Owens really was a great singer. I've always had a soft spot for Cathedral Spires.
@@biglew1161 Twas great stuff. Kind of feels like Ripper always got shafted by bands, though. Used for an album, then kicked loose. My issue with the above reply, been having some issues and it's been causing worse memory hiccups than usual. Currently trying to force a reboot by blasting some Dream Evil >.>
OMG... i never say better.... those 2 songS in this live in japan are simply AMAZZZZIIIINNNNGGGGGG (...AND SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL, and she was mine....)
Today is Rob Halford over 70 years old and still singing in the Band
He is so amazing😍
and his voice is like a darn power drill
😍
they been at it since the 70s when i was not even a teen !!!!
🥰🥰🥰
That lower register he sings in at the end is his normal voice which appears on most of the JP catalog. While he does use that high-pitched "shriek" range on occasion, this is one of the few songs where he used it throughout. Other songs on this album feature it more prominently also but probably not as much as in this title track.
Thanks for sharing💕
Tipton has adapted his technique so well that he sounds relevant in any decade, but the main thing about Priest is the harmonised riffs with distinct channel separation.
😍
Check up next : Judas Priest with Blood Red Skies as a Live - Version
Thanks for your recommendation
Rob Halford has a voice like an air raid siren, while at other times being quite operatic. Priest has a vast catalogue but a few other good examples of his voice are "Heading Out to the Highway", "Dreamer Deciever", "Diamonds and Rust ", and "Victim of Changes" There are many others of course. Thanks for sharing your review with us., as its nice to see younger people appreciating the "older" stuff😀👍
Thanks so much for sharing and for your recommendations🌺
Freewheel Burning is another good song too
Kind regards
Very much agree Cave Man! "Dreamer Deciever" and "Victim of Changes" are a couple of my person favs too. Sad Wings of Destiny and Rocka Rolla are great early albums from this legendary band. Their early stuff has hints of bluesy stuff as well.
@@NewbieInOttawa Oh for sure..the harmonica in the early albums...some had a bit of a psychedelic feel as well.🤘
Rob Halfords vocals are top notch. Live is even better!!!! Been a fan since the seventies. About 1975 I found them. Fell in love with the band instantly.
Thanks for sharing Mr. Jeffrey💕
@@AaliyahCapili you are very welcome! 👍👍⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘
Only Rob Halford can make 'Faster than a laser bullet' sound cool.

🤘Hell yes! 🤘
😍😍😍
Rob is like Ozzy, Lemmy and Ronnie. You know the voice as soon as you hear it. No-one else on the planet has that sound.
😍
don't ever apologize for your reactions enjoy the world sing scream
Thank you very much♥️
Judas Priest is a legend since 50 years.
😍
Rob is one of the top-level heavy metal vocalists of all time. It is well worth your time to dive much deeper into heavy metal, which gets bashed (and sometimes rightfully so) as being shallow - but you'll find that it is populated with amazing talent. Judas Priest have been at it since the earliest days of heavy metal and still going strong (their latest CD is being worked on at this moment). Check out Rob Halford's amazing track Silent Screams for a great example of his range...
Thanks so much Mr. Scott for sharing🥰
@@AaliyahCapili Thank you for a great review channel and exploring alternate music genres!

Now this is cool priest full metal...
😍😍😍
Oh today's youth. Glen Tipton was 41-ish when he slayed that guitar solo. The Painkiller was released in 1990. Now he hardly plays in his mid-70's due to Parkinsons Disease. What a shame! A TRUE METAL GOD!!

Q UNA CANTANTE DE OPERA SE SORPRENDA GRATAMENTE DE LA VOZ DE rob halfor habla muy bien no solo del heavy metal sino tambien de sus fans

Rob has an incredible range. This is the most extreme, in your face you'll get. In my opinion, Diamonds and Rust is on the other extreme.
Thanks for sharing
@@AaliyahCapili "Diamonds and Rust" is from another world ! Please listen . . .
If you like the vocals of Rob Halford, listen to King Diamond. King Diamond is another legendary vocalist in Heavy Metal. It is simply superb music.

True story. What a range. And like Ozzy, he always surrounded himself with great metal musicians, too.
Painkiller is their masterpiece, the 5 members were like: this is what I am, what I got for you
🥰
Not Ian Hill...
This is the best reaction I ever saw to Painkiller! Thanks for providing us with a big smile throughout the entire video 😊
Oh wow thanks so much for your kind appreciation

Metal rules! even a trained opera singer can't resist banging her head 😀

When you've got The lead guitar duo of Glenn Tipton KK Downing Ian hill on bass And rob helford on vocals You could expect nothing less than heavy metal and it's Best they are one of the godfathers of the heavy Metal movement
What about Scott Travis on Drums? He's an absolute (Pain)Killer. Before Priest He played with those Mike Varney Neoclassical Guys like Paul Gilbert's Racer X.
😍😍😍
Rob can sing clean vocals also. But he for sure is known for this.

@Aaliyah Capili Hey, my favorite song of theirs is their cover of "Diamonds and Rust". Try the studio version.
Enough metal in this song to build a aircraft carrier 😂
That's the best comment I've ever seen on this song. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Here's a Painkiller cover you've probably never seen before: ruclips.net/video/QQu9PQmmHKI/видео.html&ab_channel=DPAT

For me the most amazing part about Robs singing is his annunciation. You can understand every word he is singing!
😍😍😍
Great video. Love Blood Red Skies even more as it shows all of his range and the spectrum of his voice. There's no official video that I can find, but the studio version is a must. The vocals are quite impressive. There are other, more popular hits, but the vocals are the highlight here. Great song. Check it out on your own if you don't intend to react to it.
Thanks for sharing Mr. Jim💕
One of my favorites for exactly that reason. Turbo and Ram it Down both were bagged on a lot after Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith but there are some great tracks on both.
@@Ta2dlam Love those 2 songs too. My big 4 from JP are this one + The Helion/Electric Eye, The Sentinel, & Riding On the Wind. I just love these more than any others by JP.
@@jimspetdragons3737 The Sentinel and Heavy Duty/Defenders of the Faith are what sold me on JP back in the day.
Rob doesn't have a naturally high pitch voice, it's actually on the low side. He just had the ability to hit those really high notes.
Thanks for sharing
Should listen Death version of this song Chuck had that voice be high pitch
Rob Halford is the quintessential metal singer!
😍
This why bands that started in the 70s and 80s and continued to make great music into the 90s and beyond were the best. (hopefully this will appease rando people with not much to do with their time that like to nitpick RUclips comments)
🥰🥰🥰
This track is legend……
The hole album can be summed up in one fraze…..hold my beer. The reason is simple, by the time this album came out thrash and speed metal where pretty well established and had pretty much become the norm for metal heads. As a response as I remember it someone made the statement in one of the metal mags at the time saying older metal bands couldn’t keep up with speed and thrash bands. As a response Priest gave us Painkiller and that opinion fell silent practically overnight.
Thanks for sharing Mr. Barton
Black Sabbath has written some of the heaviest music ever. It's not about speed and rough vocals that make you heavy. The article was pretty short sided. Listen to Blue Cheer's Summertime Blues 68'. That is some heavy shit!
halford is insanely good. great tune to react to
Thank you
I highly recommend "Victim Of Changes [Live at US Festival, 1983]", you won't regret it!
Thanks so much for your recommendation
I always love reaction videos to Painkiller. I still have no clue how Judas Priest managed to make it.
😍
I remember when my mom used to sing This to me to sleep in bed 🤗😴😴😴

How can you sleep to JP?
Amazing to think that Rob is now in his 70's, and still hits those notes live today. Legend.
🥰🥰🥰
This song us unique for Judas Priest... every era of Priest has a different sound
Thanks for sharing Mr. Dan
Ha baptism by fire introduction to Priest, yes! Maybe listen to Dreamer/Deceiver from Sad Wings of Destiny studio version.
I 100% agree. That is the best song to showcase his range and its an amazing track!

When Painkiller starts, it is impossible not to headbang.
🥰
I've read he has a 4 octave range C2-C#6, I heard this song live and was up front, couldn't hear for 3 days. So worth it.

Cool video!!! The fact an opera singer who's not even into metal can headbang and enjoy this song speaks of JP amazing talent. And i like how you dont stop the music every 20 seconds to babble nonsense like others do. Also impressive you can pick up on glen Tipton being one the greatest metal guitarist ever.

Ha, you've just heard the extreme part of Rob Halford's voice. When you listen to Priest material from the 70's, you'll get a better feel for his voice, though the highs were certainly present back then, just not all the time like on Painkiller.

I appreciate your reaction to Judas Priest. I think that I got their first album, "Rocka Rolla," as a gift from as friend in 1975. As with a lot of bands, it is amazing to hear how their sound has developed and progressed over the years. Now, if I could just get my grandkids to listen to the "oldies". Wow! So pleased you have produced a review of Judas Priest. Such an influential metal band, and Halford's voice is incredible. Songs like Dreamer/Dreamer Deceiver, or Victim of Changes or Beyond the Realms of Death bring that out even more. Oh, and each of these has unbelievable guitar solos, also. Beyond the Realms of Death has two. Love your reactions ;)

Great reaction. A recommendation for a couple of different bands. Lovebites. All female band from Japan. They covered Pain Killer. I’d suggest either Swan Sing with revolutionary Etude intro or newer material with Judgement Day or Set the World on Fire. Nemophila. Also another all female band. The lead singer has the ability to sing clean or scream. Raitei is a good song or Rise. A bit different one is Style. But all good.
