I can remember dropping in tons of quarters into a Batman arcade cab back in the day.

Awesome stuff man =) The Simpsons was one of the first PCBs I picked up a few years back after getting the Vega Jr. supergun. Such a nostalgic game for me, and it's been awesome to own it the past couple years. I still enjoy the hell out playing that game every time I get a chance to.

Another excellent video, Luke. The game looks really polished, so I was surprised to see the sprites on the balcony sections appearing in front of the balcony safety barriers. Lazy programmers or a looming release deadline? I guess we'll never know.

I'm a huge Batman fan. I didn't know there was an arcade game. New life goal is to get an arcade with this game.

Good work man I mean its ALOT better than it was and still more than playable. The gameplay mechanics seem spot on which is the main thing.

13:37 - The manual doesn't seem to suggest that the highlighted "4" on the sound test screen is an error or anything, so it must be just the selection for testing each sound, and the highlight is left there from the earlier music chip test. ;)
I would imagine the service menu / 6502 does read back the registers in the audio chips, so would likely fail a test if one of them was completely toast.
So, it does seem like it could be the YM3012 DAC chip that's faulty as you are hearing a few short sound effects (like on the car chase scene). Could still be a RAM though ofc.

I still use them to move files onto my PS/2 Model 25, and sometimes from there over to the 5150 using a serial cable since it doesn't have a 3.5-inch drive.

Sounds like fun on a bun. Simpson's is a fantastic game and is soaring in prices on eBay.

I don't think the audio amplifier is a problem; there would be no sound without it. If there are partially corrupted sprites I would suspect the EPROMs. If there is music the YM2151 and the YM3012 DAC are definitely working. I would start looking at the chips around the sound CPU.

Picture I think needed callabrating on the bottom of the screen too just like the sides which you managed to callabrate in the testing menu as there was a load of black at the top of the screen in game and you couldn't see all of the bottom.
Other than that and some picture tearing as well as the sound effects chip still being a bit meh as it didn't run the effects only the music I think it's a bang up job that you got it working so far as much as you did as the fuzzy wuzzys on the screen made it unplayable so at least you rescued that and made it playable which is a huge feat for Batman by the pro of arcade repairs as usaul.

One needs to take care with that generation of Atari game hardware ,, that someone did not attempt to replace a faulty sound "ram's" with new ram chips same series but with "diffrent timing" ,, sometimes the ram will even test fine and still not work due to the sensitive timing ,, reference this video ,, Gauntlet II PCB Repair Sound Not Working ,, checking at the inputs of the op amps chips to see of you have a bad op amp in the sound hardware that mixes all the sounds together,, check the sound roms In the self test.
