Well done. I look at these sports games with a bunch of custom chips and I immediately want to use the pcbs as frisbees. You have the patience of a saint.
I recently repaired a top gunner for a friend of mine (same type of pcb as one in video) Every single ttl was a fujitsu and you guessed it dead or half working, Gave up checking them one by one so removed the lot and replaced them along with 2 rams, board is now 100%. Just for fun i ran half of them though my bk ic tester and all failed, Think the total in the end was 35 ics
I totally agree with that idea, especially with the fujitsu ttl's. Congrats on getting your friends board going as well. Its great when you can keep these classic boards out of the dump.
Fantastic my friend Double Dribble is back to it's glory including The USA National Theme song jajajaja XD. I did play Double Dribble on the nes which it has a speech voice but unlike the arcade verison is only use for the title screen when you boot up the game as result the US theme song use nes sound chip for the music only.
I seen some cheap oscilloscopes around 60.00$ hooks to your laptop and would be perfect for these types of repairs. Enjoyed an hope you have a great weekend Brother :)
LMFAO!! Haha! best comment yet! I know what you mean on that one. ....Maybe we will put it back to where it was before...in the "to be looked at soon" pile.
Excellent =D BTW when both led illuminate on a logic probe like that (when looking at the 04) it's showing that its toggling between high and low - so the output was correct. That said, when the output is pulsing between high and low, you can only be 100% sure there's not a logic level issue (eg. high not being as high as it should be, or perhaps not pulling low enough when low) if using a scope.
Thanks a lot man. Off the cuff and spur of the moment, tons of mistakes here and there lol. I`ve managed to make it this far with just the probe but Yeah, need to get a scope here as well I think. Thanks as always.
cool to see another board saved! I know a retro twitch streamer that made it a tradition to start with this version of the national anthem it's been kind of an in-joke for a while, haha. not one I really ever played back in the day but maybe I'll fire up a credit in MAME at some point.
Actually a really good sanity check to see if all the eproms are in their correct locations. Nice to see it back to working condition: it looks clean as a whistle! Shame about the bad singing though. hahaha
Definitely, a completed oversight on my part. Glad to see it up and running but yeah, listening to that singing is a different story lol. Thanks as always my friend
The Esoterica of Konami custom Chips. You would need a Harvard Review just to investigate what those chips are. Unlike a lot of Arcades, Konami boards and custom chips are the hardest to workout or replace. They are major pains in the rear and totally designed to be that way for the time but man. Like Professor Luke says, If one of them go. You are screwed, unless you have donor chips. I really wish Konami wasn't such a dictatorship and could help the community. Seriously.
Not by the book and definitely as raw as it gets, just glad to be able to get these going again. Thank you for the super vote of confidence and extreme support as always.
I totally mixed that up there lol. I should have said Mitsubishi, easily mixed that up with the Motorola ones. Yes, Mitsubishi made chips back in the day. So many manufacturers its a bit crazy to name them all. Thanks for watching!
Konami made several other basket ball games. Super Basketball is one if the earliest, Run and Gun and its sequal Run and Gun 2. Plus Nba play by play. Might be more.
I don't think I've heard of Konami's Jailbreak. I only remember one of Hamster's Arcade Archives announcements years ago, where "jailbreak" was a literal translation of the Japanese title of the SNK game known officially as P.O.W.
I thought the same thing when I first saw the games hardware info. I can understand having 2 x 6809 since one could be dedicated to sound but a 3rd not sure why
Well done, that chip swap was a good find and tricky to figure out in the first place! :-] Have you try to see if the chip you have replaced first, the LS, is good or still bad after finding out the real culprit? About your probe, it is strange that sometimes the HIGH or LOW is very clear and stable, and then is looks like both are lit at the same time, like some very fast pulse switching state.
Thanks for watching here :) In fact, the Ic I removed was still ok and it was a mistake on my part misdiagnosing the error. Luckily just those 2 chips being swapped brought the system back to life but it was nice to see that I could fix the bad ram on it at least. I think I can say I fixed it lol.
Question. Did Luke fix one PCB Completly and later get the same one to fix it again? The japanese people like to destroy arcade games, or the pieces get dammage by the years of use?
lol, nah Luis. These boards all came from the U.S. and they were part of a set. Same board :) I think that all arcade coin ops never expected these boards to be working 40 years later so regardless of country, you can find some rough condition boards just waiting to be repaired.
Thanks David. All of the vids here are rough a heck. I totally agree and Ill see what I can do but Im guessing it wont be too pretty. Thanks for watching.
Can't tell you how much I appreciate these videos. I remember stumbling upon these a decade ago. Such a fun hobby! Thanks!
Well done. I look at these sports games with a bunch of custom chips and I immediately want to use the pcbs as frisbees. You have the patience of a saint.
Haha, we've all been there for sure man lol. Great to hear from you and thank you so much as always and hope you are doing well!
Very nice to see it working again!
Thanks a lot Jan, I totally feel the same
Lovely video ! Your repair videos are allways a joy
Thank you so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it a lot.
Nice job as always! Thanks for the video!
Thanks as always Qki!
Nice! Another one down !
Thanks there Jake! trying to get as many up and running again as I can here.
Always good to see good old arcade games brought back to life.
Thanks a million Ste! totally agree, getting these things going again is a really cool feeling.

outstanding sir thanks for repairing this Double Dribble pcb, so nostalgic!
Cool repair
Thank you again Tony!
all that work and in the end was way simpler, sometimes it is like that. Great video
The anthem part is hilarious, i love it.
I know right ! lol, I had to stop it though, as good as it was.
Good job. Try not to ever bite off more than you can chew, which was the case for me when I was in my prime. I was young once too you know.

Awesome info Edgar and thanks for the kind words. Another board saved from the scrap pile. Funny facts about the NES version.

Great Idea and I think I may have to look into that for sure. Thanks Kevin!
After hearing that singing, I'm wondering if it was a good idea to fix the board. Maybe... just 😉
Great work.

Another great video Luke, it’s really fascinating watching you fix’s these arcade boards and hopefully more to come.
Thank you so much David. Glad you enjoy the vids and Ill try to get some more up here soon

Awesome job..... I learned something today ;) , keep these repair videos going... loving it
Thanks a lot as always Eddie, really appreciate it!
@@lukemorse1 it is I (or us) that appreciate your videos dude ! thanks for the inspiration
I didn't know there was an arcade version! It's cool seeing those dunk clips in color: 14:46
Hey! These two weren't in the NES one: 14:51

Merci beaucoup
@@lukemorse1 merci d’avoir pris le temps de répondre ✌️🕹
Doctor Lukemorse1 Videogames and PCB MD does it again! Another Arcade board rescued~!
👍👌
Lol, just managing to get by with them so far. Too funny! Thanks Cahos! happy to have more boards running

I think this is the only basket ball game by Konami.
Thanks Juan, Interesting Info!
@@cm70707 I have to find out.

The sprites on this looking so small nowadays compared to more modern basketball titles ✌️
Thanks as always man. It isnt out there as one of the best but it is a classic one for sure!
system16 says this board has three 6809s...it would be interesting to find out why as one 6809 sould be more than sufficient...
Hmmm, some very good questions. I wonder if it was due to the parts that were available at that time or what was the cheaper deal?
I thought the same thing when I first saw the games hardware info. I can understand having 2 x 6809 since one could be dedicated to sound but a 3rd not sure why
