That Hard Off-music must really drive the empolyes insane. Some day all the workers will turn into Michael Douglas from Falling Down and just go apeshit.
Love everything you do - please keep on doing it! Absolute legend in the retro lovers community. Everything you do is a pleasure to take in, thank you! :)
You will not regret Burnout, that's one of my favorite arcade racers. And Luke, I really appreciate your mindset about fixing consoles just for the enjoyment of it.
Awesome stuff man! I remember the old days when you had the skyline, so it's great to see you rented a car and filmed some driving. Seeing the driving parts at the beginning and end made me think back to the first driving to hard off vid you put up eons ago, with the attempted duct tape cam set up, "sponsored by foreign people and crazy people everywhere!" Classic line, haha. I think that you said something like that, but my memory could be a bit off, lol. I don't blame you for wanting that PC-9801, but I totally understand that you didn't want it due to space constraints. I know how that goes all too well, as my games room is pretty much maxed out on space too. Looking forward to seeing you work on that Wii, always great to see another piece of hardware rescued, so fantastic to see you revive these retro machines! Maybe next time for McDonald's, the return of the McDog! hahaha =) I'm sure that thing is long gone from McDonald's there now though, seeing as how often menus change, etc. Hey man, I shot you a PM today! I just now today saw your message, it took me forever to even notice it since youtube hid the private message section, and I just by chance checked my PM inbox today (ohhh google, always negatively tampering with things) Awesome vid as always man! Talk to you soon Luke!
How do those employees at Hard Off put up with that background song day in, day out? It drives me nuts just listening to it for the few minutes of Luke's vids
Cool stuff Luke, always nice to see a bit of Japan and a nice tour through a couple of Hard Off stores. Pity about the PC 88, but maybe you will find one that won't be so risky to pickup.
I've recognised the bike route even before you mentioned it :D It's such a damn shame the game shops are disappearing, I wouldn't have though it was going to happen over there! Great video!
Loved the vid Luke ! Was funny to see the boke route you took in a car ! was a beautiful day indeed and thanks for showing us around again :-) That Mario Kart 64 was nasty !! lol :-)
Been a while since I've last seen a video involving Hard Off. I swear the store's music is unforgettable no matter how long you've last seen a Hard Off video
i love these kind of videos..... hey funny when u say lets talk about joysticks and balls hahahaha hey that adult section next to the restroom was just too fast to appreciate it... lol
I love these videos, I always feel like I'm shopping with you. We need stores like this in the states or maybe we already have them and I just don't know.
That whole car turning itself off is freaky. Thank god i have a car that is still more machine than computer :) Great to see some driving and a hard off video Luke.
I like these driving vids:) That March must be hyper efficient when it goes into "sleep mode" at a full stop. Anyway, a nice driving day, but a bit discouraging to see the decline of the retro scene even in Japan.
man i remember when my dad bought me a pico, it was my first system as a kid haha nice video, sad to see not many good games in places like hard off anymore. they used to be my favourite stores in japan. :( i would have taken that ps1 console for 800
What surprised me with these newer cars in japan was the ETC card reader talking aloud everytime you turned the car on. Not to mention the navi doubling as a television, which seemed quite dangerous distraction to drivers.
I have one of those PC-9801 in my office...left by the Professor who retired...I also got an NEC Multisync Monitor to hook up to my Amiga 500, also sourced here....I got two Amiga 500's sitting in my apartment, dude! Same thing here...there used to be tons of famikon shops but they all are gone...now they got card gaming shops or video game shops/card gaming shops...looks like the old familkon shops that also added card gaming to their shops were able to survive...evolution!
Every time you put up a hardoff video i have envy luke.Around here there's no retailer for retro video games. Most often,it's message boards and auctions for me if i want a used game for the older consoles.BTW it's funny how hardoff used that same song for so many years now.
Where I live they're coming out with stores that remind me of Hard Off. Only difference is that they also sell warehouse surplus and new electronics too.
Hah! I just bought my first Wii (came in the mail today) - an eBay snag... also broken (wont read discs) and also in the damn box! I'm excited for it, figured I'd hack it and try out some homebrew. I ordered a replacement laser/lens right after I won the auction, and hopefully that will be here tomorrow so I can dig-in! Thanks for the good times, Luke. I'm a sucker for some Hard Off action, and this was a nice treat for the evening. Random thought - maybe someday in the future, when wireless video chat is easy to do across the world, you can make a crapton of money selling virtual trips to Hard Off, where the client directs you around and makes you look at crap for them, HAH! I'd totally get down on that, just so when I go, "OOH, What was that... Wait!", you'd hear me. :D Especially in those other sections of the store, something always catches my eye! Haha, crazy me. Anyway, cheers Luke!
Nice vid, my near hardoff don't have even half of the stuff of the first store. Also about the car, some cars have a button where you can disable the eco drive "feature"...and thanks for the vid
I love how you're complaining here that it's really bad compared to the good old days, and now I'm drooling looking at the cheap game boy, famicom and neo geo cd games 😁 It got a whole lot worse still since 2014, maybe the same magnitude from the golden days we're remembering!
I rented a Mitsubishi ek in Okinawa and it does the same thing. It the worst design and I feel that it would have trouble starting sometimes. There is a button to turn the feature off so the engine doesn't shut off.
Driving + 2 Hard Off!? That's an amazing video!!! That Nissan has the same internals of the new Nissan Micra. There are made in super cheap plastic. Be careful! :)
Fun vid Luke! Thanks for sharing a day out looking for gaming goodness with us! :) My wife has a Nissan (Rogue). It'd be weird to have the engine shutting off like that at stops, but I guess it's to improve efficiency huh? Is it a gas/electric hybrid? I know that Rogue feels strange to me when I drive it 'cause of the Continuously Variable Tranny (CVT) where it uses the belt and pulleys to change gearing ratios. I'll take my V8 Durango anyday over that little 4 cylinder thing, but I have to admit it is great on gas.
How is hard off price wise for synth equipment, and how easy would it be to bring electronics bought in japan back to the US if I were to take a trip to japan.
I have to get me to Japan one of these days, perhaps more to find me some rad Guitars and pedals.-But man alive that muzak would send me off a cliff in 2-minutes time.-Is it like that in every japanese store ?.I remember the muzak in Swedish stores in the 70´s when i was a child, and that kind of disappeared thankfully.
Just browsing through the games seems fun in itself, here in Europe I don't see such stores with retro games...feeling a bit envious :P only current and last gen games are sold in the stores here.
I am a long timer here, too, just like Luke...and also into all and every DIY that you can think of...K-Cars in Japan are cars with 660cc displacement engines or less(also known as light cars...something Dodge adopted back in the 80's...)...and I think that their dimensions are limited as well as horse power is limited to 64ps...not the speed...my Terios Kid can do probably over 120kph on the highway as long as it doesn't get blown off the road...(of course, I have the Aerodown version with a turbocharger spoiler and ground effects...change to the ecm rom and heheheh...but fuel mileage goes down the drain...goes from 14 or 16 down to about 8 or nine...that innovation implemented by Nissan corp for stopping the engine instead of idling, gives a boost to the mileage...keen innovation...but like you said could cause trouble like in an intersection if some car was coming and you had to get out of the way to avoid an accident, the accident could have been avoided by a gas combustion car that was still idling...but say a Prius or Leaf...could have sped away, avoiding the accident by the instant torque from the electric motors...
The old Suzuki Samurai four x fours...had blue-print two stroke engines...550cc but because they were two-stroke had about 120ps and for their size and if you knew how to use the powerband (frequency) you could get those jeeps to do awesome feats!
I've never seen so many boxed retro games in one store. There aren't many retro stores in Rhode Island and they mostly have loose carts that cost a lot unless they're sports games. I had to replay the part where you said Chrono Trigger was $1 just to make sure I heard it right. I wish we had stores like that.
Yep, the prices have jumped pretty high over the past year or so unfortunately. I'm on the west coast, and it's getting pretty hard to find good deals... :(
Ahh the treks to hard-off are always fun... So they don't charge that much for a loose chrono trigger? I just checked ebay and the SNES version loose is uber expensive yet the loose SFC versions always go for cheap... so what gives? But it looks like you got some good scores from the hard-off excursion, so looking forward to some more videos!
I absolutely love these treasure hunting videos. I like to find a diamond in the rough myself. I think I'd have to wear earplugs in that store though. They need to change up the tune once in a while. I feel sorry for the store employees who have listen to that for their entire shift every day! :D
The music in Hard Off makes me feel like I'm in a JRPG town.
anybody knows the name of the song?
+RaulBillieJean it's name it is in Japanese so I can't write it
That Hard Off-music must really drive the empolyes insane. Some day all the workers will turn into Michael Douglas from Falling Down and just go apeshit.
ruclips.net/video/R_ajDM4U5MI/видео.html an everyday annoyance, but still a classic. Enjoy! :-)
I wish we had places like this here in the states I love retro stuff and this place is filled with it !
I get a tingly feeling when I see the words Luke & Hard Off..........
Hard Offs and tingly feelings. Hehehe :P
Luke Hardcore
Hard on
These Hard-Off videos and the unboxing videos are the best. I have re-watched them so many times lol.
12:44 Looks like someone took their hard off all over Mario Kart ;)
love these types of video's bro keep em coming,
Love everything you do - please keep on doing it! Absolute legend in the retro lovers community. Everything you do is a pleasure to take in, thank you! :)
Thanks for that Luke, I really enjoy the hard off visits and repair videos, much appreciated. Arigatō!
Easily one of the best channels ever created on RUclips. Thank you luke! 💪
40 minutes well spent. Thank you, Luke! Can't wait to see what you make of the Wii.
I'm seeing Chrono Trigger and Persona 1 in those bins for a dollar each and I'm throwing money at my screen, but nothing's happening.
+Rogueofmv Japanese versions of Chrono Trigger are worth about $4-5, you can get them for that price BIN on eBay
I haven’t been to the channel in so long but man I love these videos so much
You will not regret Burnout, that's one of my favorite arcade racers. And Luke, I really appreciate your mindset about fixing consoles just for the enjoyment of it.

Luke, thanks so much for making the video. It was very fun to watch.
How do those employees at Hard Off put up with that background song day in, day out? It drives me nuts just listening to it for the few minutes of Luke's vids
Even worse than that, the music seems to be really loud! Insane...
Nice to see ride mixed with stores walking ... Thanks very much for this Mr. Luke !
Cool stuff Luke, always nice to see a bit of Japan and a nice tour through a couple of Hard Off stores.
Pity about the PC 88, but maybe you will find one that won't be so risky to pickup.
I love these videos. The people that work at Hard Off must go crazy with that same music playing all day long.
I've recognised the bike route even before you mentioned it :D
It's such a damn shame the game shops are disappearing, I wouldn't have though it was going to happen over there!
Great video!
It was a long time since you've done a vid like this Luke, glad to see another one! Cheers! ;)
Loved the vid Luke ! Was funny to see the boke route you took in a car ! was a beautiful day indeed and thanks for showing us around again :-) That Mario Kart 64 was nasty !! lol :-)
Ah a luke hardoff vid. After the day I've had this is an awesome way to relax.
Been a while since I've last seen a video involving Hard Off. I swear the store's music is unforgettable no matter how long you've last seen a Hard Off video

Thanks for taking me out in your car with me :D :P There seems to be any shape and size PC you could want!!
Thanks for the ride along Luke, I enjoyed it
Love that you fix busted systems. And slim Pickens? I would lose my mind at hard off...lol great video Luke!!!
Watching You drive through Japan makes living there seem so attractive.
man i remember when my dad bought me a pico, it was my first system as a kid haha nice video, sad to see not many good games in places like hard off anymore. they used to be my favourite stores in japan. :( i would have taken that ps1 console for 800
Aw man, Japan is beautiful. I can only hope to experience it one day...
Cool clip luke! I would love to live in japan! I look forward to your next game hunting video! Thanks man!
Seriously? £10 for a desktop computer?
£30 for the PC-98 21?
WHY DO THESE STORES NOT EXIST ANYWHERE ELSE?!
Awesome vid man i missed the hardoff videos
What surprised me with these newer cars in japan was the ETC card reader talking aloud everytime you turned the car on. Not to mention the navi doubling as a television, which seemed quite dangerous distraction to drivers.
The Hard Off theme is so awesome, makes my day :D
ruclips.net/video/R_ajDM4U5MI/видео.html consider your day made. Enjoy! :-)
The first guy that makes videos on youtube thta lives in Japan, that is not misserable.
I have one of those PC-9801 in my office...left by the Professor who retired...I also got an NEC Multisync Monitor to hook up to my Amiga 500, also sourced here....I got two Amiga 500's sitting in my apartment, dude! Great video as always Luke, love these videos :-)
Am I the only one who wishes Luke's video's would go on forever?
Every time you put up a hardoff video i have envy luke.Around here there's no retailer for retro video games. Most often,it's message boards and auctions for me if i want a used game for the older consoles.BTW it's funny how hardoff used that same song for so many years now.

Awful day at work today but this video really cheered me up! Lukes youtube taxi 4 the win!! Also loved the ending soundFX; WREEOOUURRMM!!
I am already going crazy after few minutes of that Hard off music, how the hell people can work there day in day out.
I like those videos, thanks Luke!
Hah! I just bought my first Wii (came in the mail today) - an eBay snag... also broken (wont read discs) and also in the damn box!

Love these videos...please make more!
Lol that's nice that you rented a car Luke better than taking that beast of a mountain with a bike. I can't wait to see a repair video of that Wii!!!
Thanks for this Luke! You're awesome ! :D
Nice vid, my near hardoff don't have even half of the stuff of the first store. Also about the car, some cars have a button where you can disable the eco drive "feature"...and thanks for the vid
Hallelujah a new Luke in the wild video :)
I love how you're complaining here that it's really bad compared to the good old days, and now I'm drooling looking at the cheap game boy, famicom and neo geo cd games 😁 It got a whole lot worse still since 2014, maybe the same magnitude from the golden days we're remembering!
Nice find on the super fami, sooner or later i will have to start up on my hunt for fami games again.
I rented a Mitsubishi ek in Okinawa and it does the same thing. It the worst design and I feel that it would have trouble starting sometimes. There is a button to turn the feature off so the engine doesn't shut off.
Amazing video! Keep up the good work Luke :)
Are all of japans roads this tight?
Driving + 2 Hard Off!? That's an amazing video!!!
That Nissan has the same internals of the new Nissan Micra. There are made in super cheap plastic. Be careful! :)
I need to go to Japan. I think this might be the year I finally go.
It's still the same Muzak at Hard Off! Also, component > composite, obviously.
I miss these videos
More hard off tours please ^^ They are always a highlight, no matter when
Fun vid Luke! Thanks for sharing a day out looking for gaming goodness with us! :) My wife has a Nissan (Rogue). It'd be weird to have the engine shutting off like that at stops, but I guess it's to improve efficiency huh? Is it a gas/electric hybrid? Love these videos... I just wish you had a camera man with you so I wouldn't feel like throwing up after watching them XD
As always man great vid.
Great as always, thanks
That mario kart hairy version was amazing!
Once owned by Donkey Kong.
Nice video as always !! Man why do you live there :P
How is hard off price wise for synth equipment, and how easy would it be to bring electronics bought in japan back to the US if I were to take a trip to japan.
Great Video! Not many people make Japan POV vids

I actually imported one of those Strike Freedom Gundam Full Burst Mode kits at 20:51 to 21:01 last year. I built it and have it on display.
Been waiting for another Hard Off vid woo! It's so funny, as an American, you just expect every damn person to have a car elsewhere :P
I picked up a broken wii a while back that wasn't reading discs, turned out some kid jammed a bunch of poker chips inside the disc slot lol
Miss these, does Hard Off even exist anymore?
You can always play with Wii and make it read games from USB/SD Card.
Thanks for the video Luke, can you tell me how the Gamecube market is? Any good shops in downtown Tokyo for that?
I miss videos like this! XD
As always a really good vid.
Yep, the prices have jumped pretty high over the past year or so unfortunately. I'm on the west coast, and it's getting pretty hard to find good deals... :(
Great vid. Which country are you living in?.
"Tastes just like a mountain." I might have to steal that.
That was fun to watch xD. Unfortunately, it was also a grim reminder about the rise of prices of retro games )=
Is the music in that store just really loud?
fps shopping at hard-off :D
nice video man, must see japan soon before every video game is gone. :)
Hey luke! Im wondering what are you using to record?
Ahh the treks to hard-off are always fun... So they don't charge that much for a loose chrono trigger? I just checked ebay and the SNES version loose is uber expensive yet the loose SFC versions always go for cheap... so what gives?
But it looks like you got some good scores from the hard-off excursion, so looking forward to some more videos!
I see synthesizers- Yamaha TX-7 and TX-81Z...
What part of Japan is this? I see wild palm trees.
I guess you could say you were, Hard Drivin' in this video?
:O
hi luke . how expensive is it to own a twinturbo supra? how much does it cost to own such a car in japan, where mine came from?
Hard-Off is my favorite place to get retro stuff in the JUNK area...!!!!!
I absolutely love these treasure hunting videos. I like to find a diamond in the rough myself. I think I'd have to wear earplugs in that store though. They need to change up the tune once in a while. I feel sorry for the store employees who have listen to that for their entire shift every day! :D
That brake system is cool, have it too on my Audi A1, you just have to get used to it ;-)
Damn I love that song playing in the backround.
ruclips.net/video/R_ajDM4U5MI/видео.html share the love. Enjoy! :-)
