Technically, the track first showed up in the early nineties in A Link to the Past. It was titled "Agahnim" and was used in Oot as Ganondorf's theme and in the Final Boss Battle theme because of Agahnim and Ganon being the same person, and that arrangement of the original became the default everybody turned to. Just a technicality, but it is the same leitmotif used in those themes. I know, 🤓 *Homer Simpson yelling nerd*, whatever. It's trivia about the motif in question, I just find it interesting.
@@CBROrchestra I think OP was referring to the first phase of the ganondorf battle in OoT? The one you’re talking about is the main ganon motif I think
Two terrifying things happen with Ganondorf. He uses your moves against you, and his health bar extends beyond the normal limits. A lesson on how to subvert expectations.
Ganondorf's character has two distinct sides, his disciplined warrior and king side, and his monstrous side. Imo the fight and music both show this perfectly, starting understated and conventional but still impressive. When Ganondorf starts to realize he can't win this fight, he becomes more and more beastly, and the music reflects to the more chaotic Calamity Ganon music to match. This guy no longer just wants to best you in one on one combat, he wants you annihilated. I hope he isn't gone forever, because a third game with him and Link dueling for the last time would feel great with this game building their relationship so well in the final act.

I'm not saying the ones before were bad (the Wind Waker one is my favorite), but this is just... It's the culmination of som uch. I'm genuinely impressed!
They brought back all of the old Ganondorfs' fight styles in this one. Oot's Dead man volleys, Wind Waker's dodging and swiftness, Twilight Princess' 1v1 and swordsmanship, and Demise's sheer overwhelming power. Or am I just reaching? Idc loved the fight either way
Zelda needs more dramatic choir like this. Especially in boss fights. Felt like I was playing a Souls game, especially with how much intimidation and how many surprises this guy pulls on you.
If this was a full-on anime, I bet it would be followed by a portion where ganondorf and link have a battle purely in bullet time where their swords are just blindingly fast dragon ball style
The only thing that felt missing was the click-sound of the Secret Stone powering him up. I mean sure it's not part of the main score, but it just sounds so satisfying and anytime I remember these pieces of music it plays in my head.
ikr. its such a good little detail that I sorely missed here. the single note as the secret stone is activated is the calm before the storm, *the* "oh shit" moment before the demon king enters the scene. and then you're blasted with the second phase music immediately after. it's so good
@@thesnipenieer2144The sound design and music in that cutscene is so good that it actually kinda overshadows the health bar for me. Often times I go back to this fight, enjoy the badass transformation and later go "oh yeah, this is where his health bar goes crazy too".
This is definitely a contender for the best Ganondorf battle because he genuinely feels like Link's equal. He can do a lot of the things Link can, right down to doing a flurry rush of his own (sort of). And not only that, he can REALLY punish you for missed swings or blocks. It took me two tries to beat Calamity Ganon in BOTW. After I went in with solid prep, I got a beat on him very quick. Ganondorf himself, on the other hand, kicked my butt at least FOUR times before I got anywhere close to a beat on him.
I only beat Ganondorf on my second try because I heavily, and probably over prepared, I had silver lynel horns fused to the master sword, fully upgraded barbarian armor, savage lynel shield fused to the Hylian shield, and enough Gloom-Recovery foods to last probably 6 battles. The first time I went in I was just testing the waters to see what his attacks and damage would look like
I don't know if my game nerfed him, but i beat him first try, with the help of three fairies, only two gloom recovery dishes because I forgot to cook those, and a savage lynel bow because i got sick of him flurry rushing me. It was stressful, I was only on five hearts, and I thought for sure I was going to die. I was actually really shocked I beat him first try.
Ganondorf was kicking my ass for a while, mostly because my mom (It was my mom’s file, I helped her beat the game) left me completely unprepared. She didn’t expect me to beat the army on my first try, so I had to fight Ganondorf with almost no gloom food.
@@AngelCat748the Phantom Ganons have a defense stat that reduces all damage done to them by weapons being -10. So like if a weapon does 60 damage, Phantom Ganon takes 50 damage from it. 1:20 I find this part where the music suddenly becomes chaotic. It’s kinda signifying that Ganondorf is finally feeling the rush of battle again after thousands of years.
I can almost imagine this being the point where the fight really ramps up, and Link and Ganondorf start exchanging like a hundred clashes every minute, like the lightsaber duels in the SW prequels
@@bensdreamatorium8315 the way i played it it was a very slow, deliberate duel. two master swordsmen striking with purpose and strategy. it was pretty cool ngl.
Its not talked about much by people, but I think the most terrifying thing is hearing that awkward rhythm that you'd only know if you watched/played and beat ocarina of time. Those first couple of notes are unforgettable, I love that they incorporated OOT Ganon's theme as well as Calamity Ganon's theme into this. Also that health bar was nuts. They went all in.
Mummified Ganon: How disappointing… This world should be shrouded in darkness, not bathed insufferable light. All these weak, peace-loving cowards running rampant… It would have been more…satisfying to overcome a worthy foe. Phase 1 Ganon Regardless… I will reshape this world as it was meant to be. I will crush any opposition. I will rule. That is what a king must do. Do not look away. You witness a king’s revival. And the birth of his new world! Turning into phase 2 Ganon Heh heh heh… What a feeling… I had almost forgotten the thrill of battle. That feeling as blood surges in my veins… And I am not even nearing the limits of my power! Phase 2 Ganon (Demon King Ganondorf) Enjoy these final moments. I will be taking far more than your arm this time. Turning into phase 3 Ganon (Demon Dragon) I will yet rule this land… You will not stop me! A mere mortal… will not stand in my way! My body… My mind… Everything! I’ll Sacrifice it all to destroy you… and cast this world into eternal night!
This music summons so many emotions. The moment Ganondorf recalls all his gloom clones and knocks off the sages and when the Calamity Ganon music starts is the exact desperation moment when Link realizes how Calamity Ganon killed all the champions ~100 years ago and now the only way out is to kill him or surrender to the destruction of Hyrule. What an adrenaline shot man... this is pure gold.
Honestly, knowing that Calamity Ganon was nothing more than the equivalent of an angry fart by Ganondorf really sets up the power scale here. His 2nd form is almost literally Demise reincarnated and knowing that with each defeat he reincarnates stronger down the line, it wouldn't surprise me that Ghirahim (Demise's blade) might make a return alongside him.
6:45 This is the most memorable part of the battle for me. Once again, the sages are gone, but this time it's multiple times harder to to beat Ganondorf. You have to respond to his fast movements with perfect timing to flurry rush him twice in a row, he has a wider move pool, and he can dodge your melee attacks. ANY OF THEM (unless he's charging a special attack or he just swapped weapons), not just the flurry rushes. Meanwhile, this absolute menacing banger of a TotK boss style remix of the BotW boss themes just casually plays in the background.
This has been the only game where i am genuinely SCARED of Ganondorf. My heart was literally going so fast and so strong that for a moment i thought about stop playing because i was feeling a little too anxious, i wasn't dodging well amy attacks anymore and i just started running in circules because Ganondorf broke ALL MY SHIELDS, and like it was a movie, i only had a couple bows and the Master sword and all champion weapons. I truly think this is one, if not the most scary and, for a player perspective, powerful Ganondorf that Nintendo has ever made. Congratulations Aonuma.
“Ah… how I’ve longed for battle… as for now… You witness a kings revival!” -Demon King, The Ancient Voe, Ancient King of the Gerudo, and Master of the Secret Stone. *Ganondorf.*
This song’s really got the vibe of ‘ancient’ times, especially this part 1:06. Percussion instruments including the cowbell, unstable melody, all of them are the perfect embodiment of ancient rituals, as if something incredibly menacing has just been awakened through the ritual.
Hands down the best boss in Zelda history. No one can tell me otherwise. The progression, the music, the spectacle, the move set, it’s all there and more.
I did this bossfight in the dark. I was shaking by the time I got to him. Second phase hit. "Okay, phase two mother fricker. Wait... WAIT, THAT HEALTH BAR WASN'T A MEME? THAT WASN'T EDITED?!" I was NOT expecting his theme from the trailers, and I DEFINITELY wasn't expecting calamity Ganon's theme to be a part of the boss music. This entire piece and the boss fight was AMAZING, and I'd give nearly anything to experience, at the very least, this boss fight again for the first time.
When his health bar refilled, then kept going until it reached the end of the screen, was the biggest "OH SHIT" moment I've ever had while playing a game
Ganondorf, the Demon King, Great Calamity Ganon, has devolved into a cannibal. The gloom that bursts from his body grants him life by sapping it out of others. After getting the Triforce of Power, he returns endlessly, and with the Secret Stone, he has ascended practically to become a god. Like Demise said, Hyrule is doomed to wander a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all time.
The triforce of power isn’t what causes ganondorf to keep coming back, it’s demise’s curse. I’m pretty sure this ganondorf doesn’t have the triforce of power. Besides, the only slight indication of the triforce’s location is at the end of botw where it is suggested zelda holds all three pieces.
One of my favorite parts of Ganondorf’s theme is probably 3:46. It just gives you a sense of how long this fight against the darkness has been going on, the friends and people we’ve lost along the way, and now how, one way or another, it *will* end with this final battle.
His health bar growing didn’t surprise me tbh what DID SURPRISE me is that there was no checkpoint before the boss fight which is extremely unforgiving in reality , even Elden ring let’s you restock before the final boss
My experience of this battle first time. As I was fighting him in the first phase, my heart was beating so loud I could barely hear the music. This was one of the best feelings of dread I’ve ever had during a boss battle. Then, right at the 1:30 mark, Ganondorf flurry rushed me for the first time and I froze. Literally frozen in shock and awe. Nintendo absolutely nailed this fight. 10/10
Besides the parts that are scripted, my favorite memory of my first time experiencing this fight was when I tried to shield parry a Gloom attack with my yellow durability up Hylian Shield that I JUST repaired before entering the last chasm. The sheer panic of instantly getting the "your Hylian shield is badly damaged" along with not figuring out that the Master Sword could reflect his Gloom attacks made me ditch the shield and bow entirely and continue the fight the way Link would in cutscenes: with only the Master Sword.
I will never forget the time when I first dropped into the fight, palms already sweaty. It was eerie with little music and just ganons cold footsteps on the gloom covered ground. Still sends chills down my spine.
4:44 I REALLY feel this part of the music the most. It's like "Oh s*ht... he's getting real! Oh no! my shields! 😂😅" 6:45 This part! 10/10 "TURN THE VOLUME UP TO MAX" 7:10 - 7:43 The stress, the horror, the rush...PURE EPICNESS! "Stop your flurry rushing me, Satan"
This game did such an incredible job at making me genuinely fear Ganondorf. The whole final boss lead up, him dodging my attacks and countering, his health bar GOING BEYOND THE NORMAL LIMIT? I was screaming during this entire fight 😭
I really love the percussion in this theme. The bass drum and that one off-beat perc especially. It’s almost tribal, selling the feeling we are fighting an unstoppable, ancient evil.
The best final bosses are always the ones who are another human who’s just as strong as you. No big monsters, no a ethereal threats, just another dude.
I love how the different phases of this song reflects how Ganondorf fights in the game. The first phase of this boss fight the music is low and subdued all the while he taunts Link calling him "Weak," and "Pathetic" but once the second phase starts the Music goes all out in a bombastic way and Ganondorf's entire demeanor has changed. He is no longer taunting Link but like the soundtrack, is going all out. Unleashing furious attacks boosted with gloom that destroy Links vitality

@@CheeseDelivery nah it would be more like sephiroth and his one winged form where if he takes too much damage, he would shift to his Master of the Secret Stone form and do more damage and other bs the smash team can come up with
As the two stared each other down in the heart of evil itself, both seemed to think the same thing… Everything they had worked towards was leading up to this moment. When The Demon King would crush his worthy adversary after passing him off as nothing, and finally crush the peaceful kingdom of Hyrule… …Or when the legendary champion would strike down the source of the great calamity, and end the scourge of Hyrule once and for all… No matter what happened, this all felt so familiar…like fate itself had deemed the two to clash before they had even met…which made it feel all the more personal between the two warriors.
I like how the third phase is a remix of the calamity boss theme with some Japanese influences thrown in. I also like how you can hear this “shiny” noise in the first phase, it’s almost like a glimmer of light despite the dark and fearful tone.
I might’ve been too young or too much of a wimp to have played much Zelda in my younger days, but playing Breath & Tears was one of the greatest experiences as a knowledgeable & avid Zelda fan. No it's not his special ability at all. He's a prodigy because he's the owner of the master sword. The flurry rush is basically a very fast combo, not a power. I love the return of the OoT ganondorf battle motif!!! this whole movement is amazing
The shuffle time signature is reminiscent of WW Phantom Ganon theme too
@@CBROrchestra I think OP was referring to the first phase of the ganondorf battle in OoT? The one you’re talking about is the main ganon motif I think

Two terrifying things happen with Ganondorf. He uses your moves against you, and his health bar extends beyond the normal limits.
A lesson on how to subvert expectations.
You forgot that his attacks don’t just do damage; they actively destroy your heart containers, reducing your max health. Ganondorf does NOT play nice.
Rian Johnson should take notes
nah the first time he flurry rushed me i just paused the game and had to take a deep breath, shit had me shook

Since they used it in the trailer I thought the same. Feels so hyping
If this was a full-on anime, I bet it would be followed by a portion where ganondorf and link have a battle purely in bullet time where their swords are just blindingly fast dragon ball style
Yeah, that's music worthy of a Demon King who's magic cursed and ravaged an entire kingdom for ages.
The only thing that felt missing was the click-sound of the Secret Stone powering him up. I mean sure it's not part of the main score, but it just sounds so satisfying and anytime I remember these pieces of music it plays in my head.

ikr. its such a good little detail that I sorely missed here. the single note as the secret stone is activated is the calm before the storm, *the* "oh shit" moment before the demon king enters the scene. and then you're blasted with the second phase music immediately after. it's so good
Oh indeed, some sounds just stick. Like I can't hear the OoT Spirit Temple without hearing, the pots
The first time I went in I was just testing the waters to see what his attacks and damage would look like
I managed to beat him first try, for me he was a mix of wierdly easy and very fun to fight, best boss fight I've ever fought hands down
I don't know if my game nerfed him, but i beat him first try, with the help of three fairies, only two gloom recovery dishes because I forgot to cook those, and a savage lynel bow because i got sick of him flurry rushing me.

An angry fart by an ancient fart. XD
Pure speculation but what if vaati is the reincarnation of girahim.

Thank you so much! Glad you like it :)
It's my favorite part! Starts out as BOTW's main theme which then leads in TOTK's main theme. It's beautifully done
The Sages Encouragement caught me off guard just now with the TOTK BOTW main themes mixing with ganondorf’s theme since I didn’t notice it before

"You may have flurry rushed my flurry rush, but I will outflurry rush your flurry rushing!"
Nintendo was like "OH YOU THOUGHT CALAMITY GANON WAS EASY HUH? FUCK YOU *Maximizes your Ganon*"
They really said "Ok they don't want half the bar removed" and thought "Ok how about we increase the health bar by 50% instead"
I did this bossfight in the dark.
I was shaking by the time I got to him.
Second phase hit. "Okay, phase two mother fricker. Wait... WAIT, THAT HEALTH BAR WASN'T A MEME? THAT WASN'T EDITED?!"
I was NOT expecting his theme from the trailers, and I DEFINITELY wasn't expecting calamity Ganon's theme to be a part of the boss music.

The part at 3:44 when the sages come in to help is so beautiful. Wow.
Link's honest reaction (he killed ganondorf with a stick and meat on it):
One of my favorite parts of Ganondorf’s theme is probably 3:46. It just gives you a sense of how long this fight against the darkness has been going on, the friends and people we’ve lost along the way, and now how, one way or another, it *will* end with this final battle.
3:08 to the end of this video might just be the most incredible piece of music written for this game. It's nuts.
His health bar growing didn’t surprise me tbh what DID SURPRISE me is that there was no checkpoint before the boss fight which is extremely unforgiving in reality , even Elden ring let’s you restock before the final boss

This was probably the first time i actually prepared for a boss fight. The intensity and challenge was PERFECT
As the two stared each other down in the heart of evil itself, both seemed to think the same thing…
Everything they had worked towards was leading up to this moment.
When The Demon King would crush his worthy adversary after passing him off as nothing, and finally crush the peaceful kingdom of Hyrule…
…Or when the legendary champion would strike down the source of the great calamity, and end the scourge of Hyrule once and for all…
No matter what happened, this all felt so familiar…like fate itself had deemed the two to clash before they had even met…which made it feel all the more personal between the two warriors.
I like how the third phase is a remix of the calamity boss theme with some Japanese influences thrown in. I also like how you can hear this “shiny” noise in the first phase, it’s almost like a glimmer of light despite the dark and fearful tone.
