No that's literally facts the 1st time I stormed the castle I had fully upgraded the champions tunic & hyrulian trousers, I had the master sword, ancient bow with 50 ancient arrows I was ready I open that front door and head to collect the hylian shield. After getting it I head upwards defeating every guardian, every lynel and every low class enemy storming my way up to the sanctuary and when I finally arrived I felt like such a badass.

The symbolism of it is the coolest part imo, the outside theme representing links fight to get inside and save Zelda, the inside theme representing Zelda’s struggle to contain Ganon. Even during Zelda’s lullaby you can hear the old “low hearts” sound from OoT representing Zelda nearly being exhausted of her energy.

I personally interpret the footsteps as the ghostly echo of the soldiers marching to their demise to protect the castle from the guardians' siege. A grim omen and a warning, but also another reason to fight, so that their deaths won't be in vain.
Others see it as a symbol of Ganon's forces marching against link as he ascends towards the castle, others yet as Link's own march.
I love to see how just one element opens up to so many cool interpretations

The marching effect, the snare drums and the trumpets makes it feel like it's not just Link who's marching. It's every soldier who died, every leader, every member of court, ever farmer who had fallen to the Calamity, come to banish the usurper from whence he came.
Then Link reaches the inside, and the furious, righteous pride vanishes along with the marching feet of a fallen Hyrule. The once proud home of Hyrule's royalty.. silent like a crypt, overtaken by foul monsters and the Calamity. Reality has set in. He is alone. But Zelda, and all of Hyrule, is depending on him..

The best parts: the way they integrate Link's theme (the LoZ fanfare), Zelda's theme (the Lullaby), and Ganon's theme all together, emphasizing their eternal connection, and how the general vibe is just...melancholic. There's little triumph here, just a heavy, lingering sadness. The tragedy has happened; Link's mission isn't vengeance, the scars are already too deep for that to heal them.

The main melody is also a variation of the Ballad of the Windfish from Link’s Awakening. Specifically it sounds to me like they used the Southern Shrine or possibly the Face Shrine music as inspiration since it sounds the same as BOTW (that’s Ballad Of The Windfish, not Breath Of The Wild 😂) but just played in a sadder, minor key, which has the same feel to it as this song from BOTW (this time I mean it in the normal way 😜)

What if ballad of the wind fish is mixed in because link's awakening link canonically was the first incarnation since the SS era to develop the same feelings for zelda as the first incarnation of link did? LA link interpreting marin and zelda as seperate people is probably what leads him into mistaking his dream girl to be someone else for multiple reincarnations.
Also I love the implication that he likely gravitated to marin/malon because SS zelda also sang... and unknowlingly, unconsciously was reminded of her.

    • @masonschwalm2010
      @masonschwalm2010 Год назад +8

Actually the main part sounds more similar to the “Southern/Face Shrine” music from Link’s Awakening in my opinion. It’s essentially the same tune but played in a more sad sounding minor key, with certain notes lower pitched than the Ballad’s melody. Go listen to it and you’ll see what I mean. It’s still basically Ballad of the Windfish as it serves as kind of the backbone or motif for the majority of the OST with many songs incorporating elements of it.

This soundtrack truly sells the finality of Hyrule castle, its the final dungeon and Link is as ready as he'll ever be, a hundred years of anticipation, all his friends are dead but are alive within him in spirit, he has conquered the shrines and the divine beasts, full hearts and stamina, fully blessed by the goddess statue, he marches on towards the castle, master sword and hyrule shield in hand ready to take on every guardian. The drums represent Link, strong and steadfast, the organ represents Ganon as the danger that lurks inside, and the piano represents Zelda as a beautiful but melancholic reminder to have faith.

I love the symbolism in this piece. Link, the last Knight of Hyrule, marching on the castle with the sounds of his fallen comrades marching into battle with him even if only in spirit, bringing with him the full fury of Hyrule's army distilled into a single warrior. But once he enters the castle, it all fades away as the isolation truly sets in and the realization that Zelda is not only still there fighting but is on the verge of defeat after 100 years of non-stop struggle against Ganon. In the end it comes down to what it must always be: The Hero, the Princess, and the Great Evil they've sworn to destroy...

I cant with this song any more, there is a clear distinction between outside where you can hear the piano like the guardian theme along with "links theme" playing loudly and with a beat that sounds like the marching of the fallen champions and soldiers behind him as he makes his way into the castle as if he's carrying the literal and entire fate of Hyrule on his shoulders and how inside where Zeldas still trapped you can hear her lullaby playing semi-softly on the organ and a familiar beeping that sounds like the "low health" beep signifying that she cant keep Gannon at bay much longer, Its all so overwhelming with emotion that it tends to make me cry, AND YOU BETTER BET YOUR ASS THAT IMA KICK GANNON'S ASS A FEW TIMES OVER WHEN I GET DONE WITH MY 5TH RUN

When I finally got to enter Hyrule's castle with the intention of killing Ganon after collecting all the memories & lore I could find, I got so emotional. There's just something so heartbreaking about hearing the saga's classic OST with an arrangement that makes it sound as if Link were marching with all of the fallen soldiers, ready to finish what they had started 100 years ago.
Nintendo really managed to capture the tiredness and need to put an end to the situation that a hero who's destined to save a world that he doesn't fit in anymore feels while still motivating the players and getting them into that "final battle" mode. I loved every single second of this game and can't wait to see what Nintendo has to offer next.

I literally don't know if Nintendo can make a Zelda that feels more impactful than BOTW did. I've watched footage plenty, but am just now playing it for the first time, after playing every other 3D Zelda besides SS, and 2D besides the Oracle games. The biggest feeling I get with this game is progression. Link is so weak at the beginning of the game, the literal anxiety of running from a Guardian who can kill Link in one shot. Getting stronger, completing shrines, and getting the Master Sword before facing any of the divine beasts, while still continuing to grow is so powerful to me. This game is a masterpiece, even if far from traditional. Is it perfect? Absolutely not, but I'm honestly unsure if Nintendo can achieve this level of passion and effort again.

Defeating Guardian by Guardian, Lizalfos by Lizalfos and feeling prouder every second. Then storming into Zelda's room and reading the journal, picking up the only flower left. It was like experiencing the ultimate story and actually feeling like you're a real-life character in the game. Reading King Rhoam's diary. It was so mesmerising. God I love that game.
It does suck that after you defeat Ganon nothing really changes, all you have is a star on your saves. I'd feel prouder if when I prayed to the statue, it would congratulate me or I'd finnaly meet Zelda and talk to her. :')

The two go hand in hand, being the two sides of the struggle to fix what we had lost, but still, they're intertwined. Climbing to the top of Hyrule Castle gives you a huge sense of accomplishment after all you've done to get to this point, with both your own and Zelda's struggles. The two themes are perfectly crafted to contrast, yet compliment each other. A masterpiece score for a masterpiece of a game.

Every second of this is a total nostalgia trip. Bravo to Nintendo for layering this song with so much nuance and emotion from across the years.
Even though you haven't "officially" met Ganon yet, you just KNOW he's in there.

The inside ost is just so marvelous in so many ways. Is the same melody that we heard so many times in other games but with a noticeable sadness of what the castle once was. Is still there but is not there at the same time and is just a wonderful feeling

Underlying the Zelda's Lullaby, the urgent trilling that most would know from when Link is down to one heart or less... a very nice touch.
Edit: ah, just made the connection on why it plays during Zelda's Lullaby - it's because _she_ is down to her last heart, and her strength is about to give out.

There is something so genius about how as you get closer, Ganon’s theme gets more prominent but so does Zelda’s lullaby. Such an intense feeling of adventure, fear, and hope.

I like the fact you can hear link's theme, and Zelda's lullaby in both of the segments of this song. In the outside version, link's theme is more easily recognized because he is the one who built up the courage to go to the castle, and finally fight Calamity Ganon. Zelda's lullaby is still heard of course, but way more discreet than in the interior version of the song. We hear it way more clearly and loudly than the outside version because when link finally conquered the castle, the guardians, the lynels, and everything else standing in his path, it is no longer him that is important, but the princess. The princesses cries are heard louder, and the song always reminds you that, whatever you are doing, she is in there with him. She doesn't have much time left. You must go save Zelda. Sorry for my potentially awful English, I'm trying to learn, but your language is weird.

My favorite part of this theme is that for majority of the game, the music was calm and slow. It fit the slow open exploration and build up of the game. Then when it’s time to finish the job, you get this intense masterpiece. Really hypes you up

    • @VegetaLF7
      @VegetaLF7 Год назад

One of my favorite interpretations of this theme is that when Link is storming the castle, the marching sounds outside represent Link representing the last of Hyrule's army coming back to retake the castle once and for all, that every soldier, every knight, all the Champions, everyone who fell to the Calamity are marching in with him to take the fight to Ganon...
...and then he makes it inside and all that fades away to the realization that none of them remain save for Link himself and Zelda, trapped within and still fighting a century later. All that fades away with the understanding that Zelda is struggling and losing. Her lullabye segment of the music even has the old "low health" alarm tones the older games had, showing she's on the verge of failing after all this time.
Link storms Hyrule Castle with the memories of the fallen at his back, but in the end it always comes down to the Hero, the Princess and the monster they are eternally fighting against.

Ahh i remember when i was younger this game was my lifeblood, and storming the castle for the first time is a thing ill never forget.
The castle allways terrified me to the point of completley avoiding it, but after i had explored nearly everywhere, i finally grew a pair, gathered my best gear, and headed over to the castle with an air of fear and determination. a feeling of, ''lets do this''.
i was scared of the main road so i went in through the caves after fumbling about for a bit trying to find a way arround, but when the outside music transitioned from a theme that made even younger me feel the power that the malice and the calamity had, to a theme of regal mourning and scorn, i lost all fear of the guardians that once terrified me and took the bull by the horns. guardians? just some more parts. Lynels? they weren't getting in my way. i was MAKING it to the end of this, one way, or the other.
when i finally got to the top with all the goodies i gathered along the way, coming outside to hear the music reach its climax was the best feeling ive had in a while, and i was never so determined to put a boss in the dirt as i was then. my hundred+ hours of the game were about to climax. what would be waiting for me at the top? perhaps a divine beast gone rampant? Gannon himself? i could only guess, but when i finally went in and saw that pustule hanging from the celing.
When the floor caved in, and i got a good look at what became of gannon, i honestly felt kinda bad. this wasn't just about ending the blight anymore, i had to put him out of his missery. there's NO way that gannon wasn't in pain the whole time. atleast, thats what little me thought.
With him slain, the fight went on as usual, he assumed his final form, and i took him down. the credits rolled, and i never felt so fuffilled in my entire life. sure, being booted back out inside of hyrule castle stung, but looking back, it would be greedy to ask for anymore than the game had allready given me, an unforgettable experience. (champions ballad go brrrr)
and now, i, and many others may soon get to experience it all again...thank you Nintendo.

You just described my experience perfectly. I couldn't get the game when it came out because my parents are incredibly strict and though this was pretty pretty summoning the devil 😅. But I recently got it (in November last year) and played it though. There's something so different from knowing the story and *playing* it, and playing it made me really feel the desolation of hyrule. The quiet music, the empty, lonely piano, the peaceful but lonely and mourning theme of Rito village... all of it. The contrast between these themes and hyrule castles was like they were telling us to try... try to remember. Remember times of greatness and virtue.
Ganon made me sad too. I went up there via back ways as well, thinking "I finna kill a pig today boys!" But when I got there and only then realized exactly what has happened to him, and thought dang... this is so sad. Sad what he's been reduced to, even if he's the bad guy. Malice's curse on him holds fast, and he hates ir, you can tell. The magic and sense of victory i had at the end was just legendary, especially when the main theme started. Uh, pure magic, and you described it amazingly! ❤
P.s my sister and i were just jamming to the castle theme the whole time. She isn't a huge zelda fan, but I had no one else to play with so she sat with me, she's so sweet. It was so fun doing it with her, and both of us were just awed at the music and the effect it had. And the way the sky turned red when you get near the top is just absolutely stunning and and tier foreshadowing

This theme was the culmination...a crescendo of the Event's.
The point that Link died 100 years ago with the other champions wasn't lost on us. The Difference being they took him to the Restoration chamber. So in essence, calamity Ganon succeeded in his duty. But, that doesn't mean it can't be corrected. Link being resurrected brings him new vigor. As he reclaims his memories from the Calamity and realizes, he's the one to fix this.
So, this path to me signifys what occurred in the past, what we're dealing with right now...what we will have to face down the road BUT...all is not lost. There's still a chance.
Also, I stayed away from the castle until the very end where I had everything I needed. The minute i hit the castle and this music played amped me up.
I recalled the memories unlocked, my friends perishing, the princess taken, motivated me to conquer the evil known as Calamity Ganon.
