Important note for those who have audio issues with their Quest 3 when using Link: If you increase your bitrate to 900 Mbps and have a newer GPU such as a RTX 4070, the Quest 3 might not be able to keep up in terms of decoding speed which then might result in some kind of audio "crackling" distortion noises (which many people seem to complain about online). Lowering the bitrate e. g. to 700 Mbps fixes this. Further, high bitrates result in longer encoding, transmissioning and decoding times and thus cause additional unwanted latency. After some testing it now makes sense why the debug tool does not let you enter values >500 Mbps, because at 500 Mbps and below the motion-to-photon latency stays almost the same. But going from 500 to 900 Mbps increases the latency by 25 % (10 ms). In my opinion, a bitrate of 700 Mbps seems to be the sweet spot, as it solves the audio issues, still provides similar clarity to 900 mbit only adds 3-4 ms of latency. Anyway, thanks Gamermuscle for the great tutorial, I just wanted to bring this to attention since many people might watch the video and encouter similar issues as I did.
I just wanted to say thanks for recommending this INIU Link cable the other day to me. I actually bought a different one and it did not work for me and I'll be returning it. So I'm glad you pointed this one out. I can confirm so far this INIU Link cable can charge and play at the same time. This cable has made me more confident in keeping the Quest 3. I was on the fence about returning it because of this battery life issue.
100% link cable is the clearest and most reliable way to go with AC once you have it dialed in. Tho you have to admit that Virtual Desktop is the closest thing to plug-n-play with using the Quest 3 as a PCVR HMD
Because of the last video, I upped my Home resolution slider to the same as GM (I have the exact same system) I can confirm I noticed very little performance difference for the additional clarity! Brilliant! Also been trying with AMS2 and DR2.0. I guess similar results? Wife has told me I have to go to bed so didn't have time to test more. Hopefully GM will do a similar vid for AMS2 and DR2.0 settings as they're really useful
Thanks so much for this series of videos on the Quest 3. I lost my mind years ago, so not much additional damage from watching these🙂 Anyway, am hoping you will do some AC car mod reviews making us aware of mods that make the most of VR. Really enjoy and get some weird sense of value from your videos. I bought a quest 3! Thanks!
GM, Keeping it connected with the Link cable, it will still run down the battery. you need a powered Link cable like the Kuject, that you plug into the wall with your original Quest power adaptor. There's a smart chip in the Kuject, and it has to be connected in a certain sequence to activate the smartchip. Plug it into a fully charged Quest, and the headset power won't drop below 75-78%
Absolute game-changer.. on my potato pc - i7-7700 and 2060S i now get fluid, stable 80fps with good graphics(epic graphics if compared to ACC 😅) followed previous video how to set up quest and this video.. visual wise I very slightly tuned down to settings in this video. Thank you! I almost gave up on VR racing till I get decent gpu, as VR was struggling badly, AMS2 was a bit playable but thats about it. but now AC VR now visually plays better than ACC on my 1080p screen haha
You're a hero. Thank you for giving us actual settings and discussion. I've been looking for days and almost gave up on playing AC in VR. Seems like it is a secret or most folks are just talking out their butt. I have the same GPU and a good CPU and your settings made a straight up night and day difference in video performance in the headset. AC actually looks good and runs great for me now. EDIT: but I lose all FFB when I use VR? I have it at very start but then nothing after a couple seconds. FFB works fine if I switch back to monitor. Got some magic for that?!
After many tests and several cables used tested by oculus at 2.5 Mbps, my results are much better using Virtual Desktop and a 6E router than with a cable. In this last configuration I have many freeze of the DCS game during a flight and this makes it unplayable. I tried several adjustments of the debug tool with no luck. I use a middle configuration with a 6900XT and an I710700K 48Go RAM and several SSD NVMe M2.
just came across this and very informative. i do have a question when you set the bitrate to 900 my sound is juddery slightly cuts out? done a use b cable check in oculus and it says its 2.5gbs my computer is a nvidia 4090 , ryzen 7 7800x3d and 64gig ram i currently running the bitrate at 750. im sure its capable of running at 900 but my computer refuses.
Thank you! I was able to apply this to my Quest 2 setup with a slightly lower spec PC and got stable 80fps and much higher fidelity. Only difference I did was cranked the headsets resolution all the way to 1.5x which seemed to cleaned the image up a lot. I wasn’t able to get stable 90 for with the 1.3 res anyway so I settled. Edit: also thank you for describing what the settings do. Most other tutorials don’t say why they set something the way they do.
2 things I noticed - 8xMSAA costs me a whopping 15fps compared to 4xMSAA. Turning Single pass stereo on disables the amazing sunblinding in Pure unfortunately.
do you know if there is a way too use my keyboard while im in vr i have some buttons setup to my keyboard and keytime i move my head in assetto it stops working is there a way to have it enabled always? if you know it would be of great help thank you
You have given me everything i have been trying to find for ages i will sub thanks as i am struggling with openxr as it runs really smooth but was grainy but your vid sorted it thanks
The main problem I found in AC with VR was the LODs. Depending on the MOD used, it was very bad or perfect. This parameter is modified in GRAPHICS SETTINGS "limits lods car" and "multiplayer car limits lods" Especially with LFM Ferraris
Hello, i saw a video of you testing rift s and quest 2... And rift s was better, quest 3 is better than rift s? I read that quest 3 has delays and blurrys when you are faster... True? Thank you very much
i used most of the settings but kept it in oculus rift mode rather than open vr. also didnt get pure. after playing on no hesi on SRP with a non-dlc car, i had much better frames but my left lens was lagging or glitching somehow. the right lens looked perfect but the left one was pretty blurry at moments. any advice?
That you for sharing your knowledge and tests. One thing may be is missing. In game I struggle with the quest 3 and UI. I also play with triple ans when ibgo VR, most of in game apps are out of reach (link located on side screen). Any idea on how yi solve this ?
THANKYOU for providing such a comprehensive video! I’ve been struggling to get my Quest 3 setup. From either content manager or AC when I select ‘Open VR’ and launch, I get an error ‘failed to initialize VR’ and it launches in 2D. You mentioned a video on how to setup Open VR and I wasn’t sure if you were referring to one of your own videos? I couldn’t find it. Thanks in advance for your help 😀
I got the same hardware like you Thank you a lot It looks awesome. Can you tel me your open xr settings are? I don’t know how to set up the upscaling/sharpening or do you have a video how to set it up correctly?
What CPU and ram do u run I have a 3080 and a 5600x when in high resolutions performance is near identical to a 7800X3D believe it or not because how OP single core clocks are on a 5600X because of having fewer cores most are prime silicone for whatever reason while those crazy 12-96 core dudes have a miss match of crap cores and good ones unfortunately I Imagine my rig will run quest 3 much better than Reverb G2 with all the extra crap running that you need to get it to run steam VR appropriately
Some great tips, especially in CSP. Overall pretty similar to mine which took days of mucking about. Personally I run in oculus rift mode and crank res (pixels per display) up to 1.7 im on a RTX 4070 with same Ryzen R7 as you, looks great. You gonna do one for ACC next. Ive finally subscribed
Thank you for making this video. I’ve been a PC gamer since the mid 90s and just recently got into sim racing. I have ended up with a Q3 having owned a few more expensive VR headsets in the past. I can’t remember the last time I had to tweak graphical settings to make games playable, maybe since the SLI / crossfire days. Question: Am I expecting too much from the current generation of VR headset? I was expecting the Q3 visuals to be on par in terms of clarity compared to the visuals on my 42 inch 4K 120hz OLED monitor or even 34 inch 3440x1440p 240hz OLED on sim rig (both monitors used at close range). There is no denying the immersion for those games when VR is working is just immense. But i personally think even with a Q3, it is a downgrade in terms of visual quality. Please do a video for iracing, automobilista 2, F1 2023 and Le Mans Ultimate.
It appears that I bought the same link câble. But, I have a problem. When I connect it to the computer, a few seconds after, the computer lose Internet. It is still connected to the wifi, but no internet. Does someone run on the same issue and find a fix ?
eh thanks for all these tips, got me basically sorted minus a weird shutter hear and there like 1 frame drop or even a .1 drop randomly, with no spike or dip shown in fps tool in game, just got a new system to run this headset, ryzen 7 7800x3d with a rtx4090, i also have to run oculus render mode, if i chose openvr it immediatly opens steam vr and cpu usage goes from 20% up to 92% and the shutter issue is 10x worse
Can't get it to run with OpenVR. not sure what im doing wrong. Get a CSP error message when ever i try to launch a session Edit: got it to launch with openVR but can't seem to get it to work with opencomposite, when ever it's enabled game crashes. am i missing something?
Hey there, Really helpfull guide, however I have found something strange, I followed you step by step and ended up with a good quality and a solid 30 is FPS... after tinkering it appears that for me OpenVR rendering is catastrophically bad, like i'm talking same exact settings, 120Hz 4864x2592 in oculus app and same things in CM, openVR gets me 40 odds FPS where oculus rendering runs at 112 FPS...
These settings are beautiful when hot lapping etc but as soon as i add other cars the fps drops quite significantly. What would be the best setting to adjust to compensate this.
This is driving me insane, im running the game with OpenXR Foviated rendering and everything ive spent an insane amount of hours tweaking in game settings and Oculus settings but no matter what i do i have a stutter in game that wont go away, i checked the oculus performance graph and it shows im getting perfectly stable FPS and my performance headroom is amazing at like 45-50% but for some unexplainable reason i get stutters in game every 5 seconds.. PLEASE help
I appreciate your Quest Link settings videos, thanks! I tried them from your previous video using Assetto Corsa Competizione, but had a very strange experience. The interior of the car looked great, high resolution (I have a 4090) with crisp sharpness. That said though, OUTSIDE the vehicle was HORRIBLY BRIGHT AND SATURATED.... so much so that I was completely unplayable. Needless to say, I'm very confused about this. I even messed with the ACC saturation setting, but no luck there. Have you or any of your viewers experienced this? Anyway, I will try your setting from this video for the regular Assetto Corsa today and will see what happens.
My mirror screen is an ultrawide 3440x1440 which i prefer to keep cause im not always using quest 3 for sim racing but why does the resolution in the headset seem to change dramatically when i mirror to 1080p instead of uw 1440p? I feel like this affects the performance after doing all the settings like this and i still lag with a few cars in game. rtx 3080 and 10700k.
Ok I just found this by accident didn't even mean to click this video but am a very Avid sim drifter and racer and bought my quest 3 2 days ago replace my Reverb G2 and quest 2 at the same time I haven't hooked it to my PC yetbut I'm blown away by it and Asgard Wrath 2 it's phenomenal now I just need to sell my quest 2 and Reverb G2
I tried your settings but somehow through Link the fps keeps fluctuating between 87 and 90, despite my gfx settings. Even if I halve the resolution it keeps doing that, giving very visible stuttering. With VD I get a stable 90fps in Ultra mode on a 2080S. Probably my usb cable or usb port or something like that.
Do you also have some kind of micro stutters in VR only when the car is cornering? This is what I have, even if my FPS are rock solid I have these micro stutters.
Cornering is when image is changing the most so it's when encoder will be most under load , I'll look out for it next time I play in VR , it was ok when testing though.
You need to copy and paste the number in if it's higher than 500 - don't ask me why. But if you try to type it, it won't let you. Write the number you want in Notepad, copy it, then paste it into the debug tool.
I've got a 4090. I'm using Oculus Rift. Maybe a mistake? But for all my other sims I start off by setting the resolution at 1.5 on the Quest settings with FOV setings of in Oculus Debug 0.9, 0.9 since I can't see the edges anyway. I then adjust in-game settings to 16x anisotropic and 4x MSAA. Then, I go in and turn on all the eye candy I can to maximize basic output while ensuring I keep the performance meter in the acceptable range. Finally, I use Oculus Tray Tool to create a profile for each game and increase Super Sampling until the performance graph shows I'm close to the limit - particularly at the start of races with a lot of cars in view. I consider that optimized and everything looks absolutely incredible. Anything wrong with this technique?
great video and advice as always. ive been waiting for your review of the Q3 for a while as i really value your opinion. the issues i have when following your advice is in the oculus debug tool i dont have the option for any video codec so cant select it also when i select link sharpening its only available as enabled or disabled. i have latest oculus versions and latest nvidia drivers for my 4090 so not sure what else to do any advice please. thanks in advance. on a side note im also holding out for an ams2 vr guide off you but i know ur not its biggest fan. i,ll just drink tea while im waiting 😀
I tried using your settings but on my setup it looks like absolute pixelated space garbage. Can you she some light on how you actually launch Iracing? Are you going through Virtual Desktop? When I try to launch Iracing through the UI normally and select OpenXR the image of the game won't display on my headset. if I launch the virtual desktop and load iracing that way and select OpenXR it looks like pixelated trash and gets worse at higher speeds.
The settings should be the same , just change your sims graphics to get it to run at 90hz RF2 AA/Shadows/Number of visable cars , are probably biggest impact on FPS
Hello and thank you for the video. The settings are nice, but I don't think it will work with an RTX 3080 in F1 23. Maybe with low graphics settings. I have a 4070 ti with i7 12700k and 32gb ram. I manage to achieve good playability in F1 23 with 80hz 4128x2008 and medium graphics settings. Ich use a 800mbit Rate. I still have 120% scaling set in SteamVR. The picture is quite good. But my performance headroom is at 10-20%. 50% would be better. My Meta App recommendation is 72hz. At 90hz I have in F1 23 stuttering. Asseto Corsa Comp. is more performant with OpenVR. Maybe it's possible there. Can you show me your headroom performance? Is it better to scale in the Meta PC app or in SteamVR?
Anybody experiencing performance dips in the high speed corners when using faster cars, particularly F1? I’m steady at 90hz for most of the lap, but when I’m cornering I’m seeing a drop off in performance down to 70-80hz which is noticeable.
Thanks for that. I've been miucking around with settings for hours. Could you order the Bigscreen VR and do all the work for me? I would like to make a financial contribution but alas, my wife is still spewing over me buying 2 VR headsets in 2 months.
AMS2/Iracing are far and away the best for VR experiences. Assetto corsa is pretty annoying with all the settings. They seem great at first, but wear on you month after month. And though the game looks fine, something about it just... doesn't sit right. IDK. Like Iracing's assets are noticeably primitive, but it just works. IDK tbh
The problem is AC is by far the most realistic sim to drive , I find ASMS2's weard super wide slip and cars driving like a very easy to slide brick is even more noticable in VR , even if the ai is really good fun , ams2 also has terrable cam settings. iRacing I find feels better in VR becuse its esear to avoid the broken parts of its physics at the limit. So even though AMS2 and iRacing are esear to jump into and set up and are more consitant with frame rate generally speeking the reason I play a racing sim is for the driving and nothing compares to how you can dance the cars in AC at the limit and how close AC lines up to real cars and my personal experance with any real car I have been in or driven.
I feel the same way. AC is just a pain. I just want to RACE. AMS2 is just amazing with almost no faff. Plus it gets better and better with updates. GM, you do contradict yourself a bit in other videos regarding how amazing AMS2 is. And i dont mean VR
My brain keeps telling me that the Link cable should be better than Virtual Desktop but my eyes keep telling my brain it is lying to me, lol. All I can get outta ACC is "Fatal Error." Seems Im not alone and there seems to be no answer.
Even though you may not get as many views. Those who have VR really appreciate this series of video. Thank you.
Agreed these settings helped me a lot.
Important note for those who have audio issues with their Quest 3 when using Link:
If you increase your bitrate to 900 Mbps and have a newer GPU such as a RTX 4070, the Quest 3 might not be able to keep up in terms of decoding speed which then might result in some kind of audio "crackling" distortion noises (which many people seem to complain about online). Lowering the bitrate e. g. to 700 Mbps fixes this.

I can't get by with higher than 650, but ended up there after encountering exactly what you describe.
GM pumpin out GAME CHANGING videos
good pun
If you want to try another PP Filter give Natural Mod PP Filter a go. It improves performance a bit and the sun blinding effect isn't too bright.
Thank you for the easy tutorial. just upgraded to this from valve index and i cant stop smiling. it is SO much better for that low price it has!
Brother, I love your British humor👏🏾. Thanks for the help. Keep up the great work Mate ☕🍪✌🏾
I just wanted to say thanks for recommending this INIU Link cable the other day to me. I actually bought a different one and it did not work for me and I'll be returning it. Because of the last video, I upped my Home resolution slider to the same as GM (I have the exact same system)
I can confirm I noticed very little performance difference for the additional clarity! Brilliant!
Also been trying with AMS2 and DR2.0. I guess similar results? Wife has told me I have to go to bed so didn't have time to test more.

which wire did you buy as a link cable, I cant get my pc to recognize the one i got as usb 3
So frustrating
Thanks so much for this series of videos on the Quest 3.
I lost my mind years ago, so not much additional damage from watching these🙂
Anyway, am hoping you will do some AC car mod reviews making us aware of mods that make the most of VR.
Really enjoy and get some weird sense of value from your videos.

Thanks for the kind words ☕👌
GM, Keeping it connected with the Link cable, it will still run down the battery. you need a powered Link cable like the Kuject, that you plug into the wall with your original Quest power adaptor. Hey there,
Really helpfull guide, however I have found something strange, I followed you step by step and ended up with a good quality and a solid 30 is FPS... after tinkering it appears that for me OpenVR rendering is catastrophically bad, like i'm talking same exact settings, 120Hz 4864x2592 in oculus app and same things in CM, openVR gets me 40 odds FPS where oculus rendering runs at 112 FPS...
These settings are beautiful when hot lapping etc but as soon as i add other cars the fps drops quite significantly. What would be the best setting to adjust to compensate this.
Should I copy your settings? We have the same system, except I'm running with a 4080
What about the airlink connection? Will I loose any quality details?
Would love to see this for acc and ams2.
Especially acc
ACC will be a forgotten sim in a few years time , as it's a fake pasta and only a distraction from the real pasta of AC1.
Helped me so much! Thank you! Would be cool if you do the same for AMS2 and for RF2 maybe?
Anyway, I will try your setting from this video for the regular Assetto Corsa today and will see what happens.
what kind of utility is this 8:28?
Hi , how strong is your cable power adapter? i use the oculus but the quest uses more power than the adapter deliver.
I dont understand why you need a pc to play AC on the quest 3, cant you just play straight away?
can you share your setting file ?
@@GamerMuscleVideos thanks, but AC in VR is the only game with such a stutters: R3E is smooth as butter, same for AMS2 (without the rain ;-) )
For some reason I can't increase Encode Bitrate above 500, if I try any higher it won't let enter the third digit.
Anything wrong with this technique?
great video and advice as always. ive been waiting for your review of the Q3 for a while as i really value your opinion.
the issues i have when following your advice is in the oculus debug tool
i dont have the option for any video codec so cant select it
also when i select link sharpening its only available as enabled or disabled.
i have latest oculus versions and latest nvidia drivers for my 4090 so not sure what else to do
any advice please. thanks in advance.
on a side note im also holding out for an ams2 vr guide off you but i know ur not its biggest fan.
i,ll just drink tea while im waiting 😀
What headstrap is that
I tried using your settings but on my setup it looks like absolute pixelated space garbage. Can you she some light on how you actually launch Iracing? Are you going through Virtual Desktop? When I try to launch Iracing through the UI normally and select OpenXR the image of the game won't display on my headset. if I launch the virtual desktop and load iracing that way and select OpenXR it looks like pixelated trash and gets worse at higher speeds.
just started the video but just wanna ask will you do this for other sims? (rf2 please)
The settings should be the same , just change your sims graphics to get it to run at 90hz
RF2 AA/Shadows/Number of visable cars , are probably biggest impact on FPS
how do you adjust the brightness. i struggle with the game beeing to bright.
You can do it in oculus headset click on battery icon and then in settings menue brightness for hmd is top right ( on quest 3)
@@GamerMuscleVideos come on its there? i have tried all the buttons in whole computer. off button worked at the end:D
i try it today at home bcs my first start was horable graphics.
All the stuff promised to be linked under the video.. Not there 😭
Hello and thank you for the video.
Is it better to scale in the Meta PC app or in SteamVR?
i cant get it to work with the link cable i bought, i am super bummed
Why not
Have you had success with virtual desktop?
Can my 2080(non ti) handle quest 3 for assetto ?
Should do on lower settings
Anybody experiencing performance dips in the high speed corners when using faster cars, particularly F1? I’m steady at 90hz for most of the lap, but when I’m cornering I’m seeing a drop off in performance down to 70-80hz which is noticeable.
Thanks for that. I've been miucking around with settings for hours. Could you order the Bigscreen VR and do all the work for me? I would like to make a financial contribution but alas, my wife is still spewing over me buying 2 VR headsets in 2 months.
Great video thanks
cant paste 900 win 11
thank you so much
Thanks ! 😃
Shout out to the *ladies* watching GAME CHANGING sexy vr setup videos
Awesome😄
My brain keeps telling me that the Link cable should be better than Virtual Desktop but my eyes keep telling my brain it is lying to me, lol. All I can get outta ACC is "Fatal Error." Seems Im not alone and there seems to be no answer.
holy yapper
90 fps... I don't reach 90 fps. Next guide...
900
thank you so much
