Thanks for watching ! Here is my link to cable that also charges when in use > amzn.to/3Hxcudy Here is my link to current Quest 3 price > amzn.to/3S99MA6 Why an earth did Oculus not just have a HDMI port on this :(
Fellow sim-racer and ex-Oculus Link dev here (among other things, worked on the Link image and tracking fidelity, OculusMirror tool - specifically the stabilization feature used here). Love seeing folks appreciate the nuts & bolts of the tech and the end-to-end fidelity. So much has to go right to make the final experience feel smooth and Quest 3 really is the pinnacle of that.
@@Virtual_Racer_1 I was trying (failed in the end) to get rF2 running in VR last night and did a could of laps on the monitor. I just thought to myself how pants is this compared to VR! Monitors for show, VR for feeling like a pro.
I went from quest 2, to psvr2 in GT7, to iracing on the quest 2 again. I then upgraded to a quest 3 and could never ever go back. The lenses make such a massive difference both visually and for comfort
Do you feel the psvr2 is worth it? I currently have the quest 2 with mainly iracing. Feel like I'm missing out on GT7 but I'm not a fan of single screen racing.
Please do a video on how to optimise VR. It’s just too confusing for me and do not have any idea what I need to do to get max frame rate while maintaining visual fidelity
i just got into sim racing (AC, ACC and AM2) and tragically bought the HTC Vive Elite XR to see what it’s like for sim racing and it has put me off all forms of VR. After seeing so many positive reviews, i’m eagerly waiting my quest 3 to get delivered. better be good and thanks for the video.
@@stikupartist3698 yes i do but i only use it for PCVR and not interested in the oculus apps from their store which are for standalone mode. it takes some serious technical knowledge to configure steamvr, oculus debug tool, oculus tray tool, oculus app, Virtual Desktop and a lot of trial and error to see what works best between bitrate, wifi 7 vs cable, in game graphics settings, Nvidia Control Panel etc. when it works it’s good, its no where near the quality of my OLED 4K 120hz display I have on my desk, good enough purely because it’s one of the cheapest option out there. i often find myself having to change settings between games and due to some misconfiguration (because i don’t really know what i’m doing), i just either get a blurry mess or awful pixelation or severe lag even using a decent wifi 7 router on 6Ghz band dedicated for Quest 3. I know it’s me not the product but still, not the most user friendly when there are multiple transcoder to pick from and bunch of software for tweaking. Can’t blame Meta for this as there isn’t a standard VR implementation right now. if you are patient and willing to invest time setting it up perfectly, yes the immersion alone is worth it The quest 3 is so much more comfortable with an aftermarket strap compared to the HTC Vive Elite. the next one i will try to get is the Bigscren Beyond or wait for the Quest Pro 2. VR takes a second off my lap time in iracing and it’s because i’m not distracted with things going on around me compared to using a large screen. for less than a $1000, i think the MQ3 is worth it a try but this is still early days. I definitely learnt a lot along my PCVR simracing journey, end game is to learn a track corner by corner and actually go drive on these track for real. ACC’s new Nordschleife is so good, i really feel a sense of speed and danger just with a Q3, fanatic DD and a rig.
I never really cared much for sim racing games until I tried Assetto Corsa on my Quest 3 with a Logitech G27. Fast forward four months, and I've gone all in-I now have a complete SimRig setup with high torque Direct Drive, CLS pedals, dedicated shoes, and racing gloves. I'm fully invested now! And I'm not stopping there; soon, I'll be incorporating motion into my Next Level GT-Elite cockpit. It's not just gaming anymore; it's a genuine hobby.
I wish they make a stripped down pc only version of this for half price with a direct input like HDMI or DisplayPort. It would be a perfect headset for sim racing.
yah quite liked psvr and its controlers , shame you have to plug it into a playstation , i think if sony did a stand alone hmd it could be killer but sony seem to be all over the place.
@@nextgengaming7803 how do you see the 2 vr sets? Which one gives a better image? As you mentioned, a PC is way way way more expensive than a PS5. The GPU is already almost 4times the price of a PS5. I'm still in doubt. Pay €3500 for a new PC, or buy a PSVR for €500. My old pc, a i7 8700k and GTX 1080TI is already 7 years old and can't probably coop with a Quest3. 🙃
For someone who have never experienced PCVR before, Quest 3 is a good entry point for me in terms of price. It is a pain to setup, there is no doubts about it. Different PC games prefer different encoder... Some runs best on Oculus Link, some only runs in steamVR and some people use Virtual Desktop. Personally, I stick to the Oculus and SteamVR and sometimes, use OpenComposite to get more out of the visuals and performance. After 2 months of mucking around with the quest 3, I can get a few racing sims run with at an acceptable performance and level of visual - namely iRacing , F1 22, Automobilista 2 and Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC took me a long time to figure the best settings in Oculus Debug Tool and in-game graphics setting). Another game I like playing of late is Le Mans Ultimate but I cant get it to work (pixelated mess), F1 23 does work using SteamVR but F1 22 runs and look a lot better. Be prepared for a serious visual downgrade compared to playing on a monitor. At a hardware level, aside from the lense, I wish I knew the spec to look in a VR headset is "resolution per eye". I speculate the problem is with bandwidth. When I use a 4K display over HDMI2.1, the cable bandwith theoretically tops out 48Gbps, for the Quest 3 using a oculus usb c cable, I only get 3Gbps as even though I have USB C 20Gbps ports. I think the VR encoders have to compress 48 to 3Gbit of data, that's a lot of compression and no wonder I keep complaining about the visuals. Someone, please correct me as I want to learn more about this. Right now, until these headset supports native 4K per eye with no compression, and game devs actually invest in optimising for VR, I will stick with the Quest 3. Rather than paying a crazy amount for a proper highend 8K/10K VR headset, I might as well get a Samsung g9 57 inch curved monitor for my sim racing rig and call it quits. Sure, I will lose the immersion offered by the Quest 3 but there are just too many variables to deal with for PCVR gaming.
Thankyou so much, GamerMuscle. As I have been hanging on with dear life to my original Rift, due to nothing else seemingly being better that was under $1.000 AU. I have also been put off with the latest VR headsets going stand-alone, and I also wish META had an option for a displayport version for not just Racing Sims, but Flight Sims as well. So really looking forward to that indepth settings video your thinking of doing --- as I don't think I have the skills needed to work it all out on my own. Which was another reason I was hesitant to get the Quest 3, due to the "compression complaints" I was hearing when the Q3 first came out?
Like there crazy USB cable lol Thing is I wouldn't even mind paying 100+ for a boboVr with valve index headphones I think meta could even make money from this. I get them wanting q3 to be portable and keep costs down with there base unit due to it being sold at loss. But yah the gains you get from head strap + some tweaks make it a different HMD lol. It's weird apple seem to be making same errors even when selling for 3500..
I was thinking the same before getting mine but I kind of see their point now, not everyone will need one - I have a massive head for instance and surprisingly the stock one is very comfortable
It’s a great all round headset and for sim racing it’s great. It falls apart visually in any of the rally games but everything else it’s decent. I still prefer using my DisplayPort headsets for sim racing and I use quest 3 with Virtual Desktop for games like half life, vertigo 2, boneworks etc.
I still prefer the OLED of my Samsung Odyssey to my HP Reverb G2. I am tempted by the Quest 3, because everyone seems to rave about it, but really I want to see a decent reasonably priced OLED headset hit the market. It is amazing to me that all these years have passed and the Odyssey is still on its own.
I got the Q3 in October and couldn't be happier. It's a massive upgrade over the Q2 for me. Using the Kiwi Design Comfort Head Strap which works really well, but I just got wireless PCVR to work well and smooth (new router) so I'm seriously eyeing the brand new BoboVR S3 halo head strap with the updated battery. Not too happy with the default thin fabric-based facial interface but it works well enough with the Kiwi strap. BTW, it already has spacer built in for glasses, if you missed that detail. Just use the small buttons at the sides of the interface. With a BoboVR halo head strap you can use the headset without the facial interface if that's a wish.
Is it S3 or M3 ? I got an M3 arriving tomorrow for review. Yah I'm aware of the spacer and have used it without have a video about that aspect as well. I fell meta is really missed out on promoting aspects of the HMD or even selling it in a way that makes it a way better device for most people.
@@GamerMuscleVideos The M3 is old halo strap adapted for Q3. They just announced the S3 Pro Super Strap (full name) with 10Ah battery, 20W charging, small display for charge level, and even a small built-in adjustable fan. It's on their web site. Maybe try to get them to sponser a test unit? 😉
On a Quest 2 now but likely upgrade later this year. However, VR requires tinkering and knowledge of tuning everything to get it right. Sometimes it’s just easier to go flat screen. I do 5% VR and 95% flat personally. I guess I’m lazy but sometimes it’s a hassle. Eye strain, cable or air link, Oculus app on PC not reliable, WiFi shared with the family so choppy or compression sometimes, etc.
Thanks for the video information about the Quest 3 and will be getting one soon . I have 3 older tethered VR headsets and like/use the Rift S right now because of the VR headset having a wider sweet spot. I have also watched your video on setup of the Quest 3 with using the LINK cable. Thank you for that video. Enjoy your videos, take care.
I’m a console gamer. My 4800 Super is delivering this week. Ordering the rest next week. Question 3 the week after. I’m really hoping my mind will be blown
Myself used my Quest 2 vividly for 21 months. As I read the Quest 3 apart from higher res do have 10° extra FOV compared to my Quest 2, right? But now altso installed tripple 3x 32" curved screen. And the FOV - when in RACING mode when it really counts - is still much better. Here it could really be a blast with a 210° FOV VR headset! This even though I lack a bit of peeker vision myself, at least compared to Mr. Gosling speaking his natural eye FOV is 210° and most ppl do have >200°. Nota bene: Think my own natural eye FOV is maybe at max 170°, and still this day have a bad feeling thinking I shouldn't have had acquired my drivers license back in 1990. However, plenty real world gokart wins and a single seater real world win and plenty rental race car track day experiences, besides buy cars just to get out from A and don't really care about B, but more the driver experience, I think my body driver muscles can obide from my visual lacks anyway 😅 Thanks for the analysis, now my wife have scorched the household economics with kitchen and house project, so think I'll have to wait for a Quest 4 somewhere in 2027 or so... NB2: Why a HDMI cable? You know of superhigh fidelity GigaSpeed USB-c cables with angled twist in one end? Just have to be aware of how internal wire cables are wired up, there are videos of Thunderbolt HDMI cables and the same goes for USB-c cables, it doesn't even have to be super expensive. I myself acquired a 10Gpbs 5 meter USB-c cable for DKK 400 (must be round €50), works splendid.
I tried it, even with Virutal Desktop the video compresion is there, and the experience is not as smooth as with a DisplayPort headset (I have a rtx 4090)
Sound on Quest 3 has been greatly improved when compared to Quest 2. Pretty close to the Valve speakers you find also on the HP Reverb G2. Headphones are not necessary unless you are super audiophile.
WRC 23 is, due to its current lack of VR support, the only sim I tolerate not using my HMD with. The immersion with VR is so good, it even mitigates the FFB in ACC, believe it or not. 🙂 I've had the DK2, the Pimax 4K, the Rift S, Quest 2 and now Quest 3. And yes, once you got the settings for Oculus Link dialed in properly, it's an outstanding headset, especially given its price range. Hint: If you don't own one, try to get a Vive Deluxe Audio Strap and "Franken Quest 3" adapters. It's comfy af and the headphones are really, really good.
@@BKHD605 to be honest I havn't tried yet, and I'm a bit afraid of entering a rabbit hole of tweaks until I have it running to my likings. Also, my monitor is a 32:9 ultrawide, so playing in pancake mode is not thaaat bad and will do until the official VR support works.
Nice! Got a DD1, 4080 Super, decent CPU and assorted goodies. I bought a Quest 3 for my wife and I'm suddenly feeling like a little VR time is in order. Enjoyed your impressions and looking forward to this long holiday weekend that's for sure.
You are quite good at keeping your head stable in VR. I remember Jimmie Broadbent and some others just kept shaking their heads all over the place and wondered why everyone hated their VR content lol. It wasn't until I recorded videos of myself playing, that I realised it was just them, and that you can keep your head mostly still whilst racing without evening thinking about it. I guess some people just naturally bob their heads around a lot in daily life :/
See this is why I don’t use my VR much. I find I’m holding my head still intentionally and controlling my eye and neck movements in a way that feels unnatural (to me).
@@Hexadeci although the image that you see(stream/mirroring) is shaky, the image that you experience on the headset isn't shaking at all!! As a month old VR user with the old quest 2, it blew my mind what i was missing, i will never get back to a monitor!
Cool. I’m on the scout for a new VR set. My Rift v2 is already 2 years EOL. I really want to go back to VR simracing. Looking forward to your more in depth review.
You want to try the Tykki Dirt 2 Rally X track in AMS 2 in VR. That track with a 4090 in a thunderstorm is just mental. My favorite experience in VR by far but you need a high end rig to run it.
Agreed , also use OpenXR ( not steam VR ) all easy , use some of the options in that for optimisations & can gain another 30% performance eg higher settings & more head room Like having a new GPU seriously , Quest3 is impressive
Oh you got that right my HP Reverb g2 won't run steam VR at all with our Open composite and open xr it's a must for the reverb g2 it's because mixed reality sucks
I really wish the VF tec worked for me. But I get motion sickness with the PSVR2 on GT7 and I tried everything to make it work. The triple monitor setup is all I have at the moment. I really hope they can get the VR with higher frame rate next time around. For me the PSVR2 is not 4 k like the TV. It seems a little on the 1080p side. It’s super cool tho. Good video mate!
Another compare request to the G2. I don't mind the small sweet spot of the G2 as the quality is great. But I am considering an upgrade, the Varjo Aero is something I was considering but do you not rate it? The res is quite a jump and my fear is a catastrophic loss of FPS compared the the G2.
Varjo are stopping support in 2025 I think of aero. I'd imagine as a company they are moving focus to high end PC VR for business. I have noticed lots of varjo aero fans are starting to gravitate to quest 3 despite the lack of HDMI. Varjo aero is to heavy and cumbersome for my taste , personally prefer quest 3. Aero integrated eye tracking can make sense for lots of professional sim training and business application though.
As a G2 owner, I personally only have eyes on either the bigscreen beyond, or wait for the Somnium VR1.. although much more expensive than originally stated and it still being in development the Somnium could bring a whole new experience for sim racers/ flight simmers. It certainly ticks all the boxes on paper, just the price of it that's concerning and the fact its not finished being made yet lol
@@shrkfmrdrThe headstrap isn't great, neither is the audio you get from the built in speakers. Plus if you use it for sim racing the fact that it has a battery is not a plus either. I use it wired and haven't had the battery go below 70% but I would still prefer it to run without a battery. But the optical stack is just so good that I put up with it.
I've got a Quest 2 six months ago and pretty much sold it after one month. I couldn't get around motion sickness and there's not enough good vr games to justify the price, actually just watching this video gave some PTSD lol
Feel your pain about motion sickness. That must suck. But not enough games? All my racing sims play in VR, I can truck sim and flight sim. That's more than enough game to justify a 400€ headset. Heck! If you are really into racing, the PSVR2 @ 600 is still worth it just for GT7 for many people. One game! I don't buy the price argument here. :/
@@mickaelsflow6774 Yeah I should have been more precise, not enough good games outside of games that triggered my motion sickness haha. SuperHot, beatsaber, and RE4 were the only thing that were actually good in my opinion
Besides racing games, there isn't much else a VR headset is good for. Mine got used a few times, then has been collecting dust In the closet for years now. I'm sure the tech has gotten better and the experience is great, but spending hours with a face mask on, having zero spacial awarness and looking like I'm gaming thru a screen door wasnt for me.
@@advanceddarkness3 I get it, but the way I see it, VR is not really for all types of games. So I could phrase it this way: besides sim racing, a triple screen setup isn't much useful for many games. Or besides sim racing, a wheel and pedals set isn't that much useful. And so on. The screen door effect got better, but the rest can still very much feel that way. It's better, but not "there yet", I can see that.
I have a PSVR2 which I like and is technically a better headset, but these pancake lenses are fantastic and it's more comfortable (throw the included headstrap in the bin) and I'm using this headset a ton for driving. It's very fun.
yah foveated rendering and eye tracking is great even more so in the future when it comes to using menus , depth tracking and a bunch of things. to be honest for now the main thing is developers not using deferred rendering engines. ACC looks bad on a 4k Oled TV let alone a VR headset even when you throw tons at it. the quest 3 thing is not really about resolution its edge to edge clarity which has been a huge issue for VR and for me is a huge comfort issue.
@@GamerMuscleVideos ACC is really close to AMS2 when it's properly setup with a Quest pro and a 4090. Some people find that it even looks better. I also have the 3 but it's harder to run because of the higher res and no eye tracking so it doesn't look as good. We should get some even better headsets along with 5090's in the next 1-2 years so VR is the future of sim racing IMO
I went from index to q3 a few days ago. Ive barely done pcvr. Ashards wrath 2 and assassins creed are legit great games. Ive got a 4090 but these little phone chips are punching way over their weight. I know people on this channel might not be into that, but this overblown cell phone is amazing. I love this crap, and love hearing how passionate this bald git is about it as well. When i take it off my first thought is aways "how have i not noticed that im living in the future" it snuck up on me.
So much better than reverb G2, really clear graphics! but the speakers are shite, I use big floor speakers anyway so not an issue. The standard head strap works great for me, but I only use it for racing sim. I bought a regular 5m usb-c cable instead of the quest one. Passthrough is great, no need to take off headset to use kbd/mouse. Finally I am regularly sim racing in VR, I never liked the Reverb because it was blurry and uncomfortable.
I feel like a proper dirty tramp after stating I'd never give money to Meta but I got sick of waiting for Valves Deckard. The convenience of the Q3 paired with a decent head strap with battery (Kiwi Design gives me over 3 hours wirelessly) + Steam link with a good router in the same room or a KKCOBVR A2 to cable link AND charge at the same time is so so great. I was a Pimax owner and their moto was "Only got an hour? Spend it on trying to get things working" so this was a breath of fresh air (I can imagine it was the same for the Index)
I'm on PlayStation 5 with PSVR2 and GT7. G29 and playseat.. I miss playing the other VR Sims. And was beginning thinking of either a Psvr2 Converter for pc and then actually buying a pc that meets the specs. Or could I buy a MQ3 and install the games on the MQ3 and connect the wheel to the MQ3. Or do I also need a PC to use MQ3 for VR racing ?. Hopefully I make sense 🙃 and can get an answer.
i had a windows mixed reality which i returned showed a glimpse of what could come ,but had terrible battery life on the controllers.the quest 3 controllers compared with 1 AA last for weeks and are so compact. there are so many positives ... but for me personally to much complication in the whole setup process ... when they make the whole interface/use less cluttered more people will jump onboard,[smartphones pro that point] still am enjoying all the halflife VR versions ... especially HL2
Zuck really nailed that one, I was resistant to get a non-hdmi headsince, since I only use it for sim racing, but the next comparable one was double the price lol
It's really a shame that they don't offer the option to connect it to PC via DP cable, let alone all the meta account sh*t, I'd rather consider buying a Pymax Crystal, having the money, as an upgrade for my Reverb G2, which BTW is still a very good VR headset IMHO, cheers
I love my quest 3 but i have issues with frame drops with the link cable. In most games where you're not moving through an environment so quickly its not really noticeable but in driving sims its something I have yet to find the remedy for. So I still use my older headset with a proper display port for my sim rig. Shame cause the lenses on the quest 3 are far superior to Fresnel lenses. But I need that perfect frame-time stability or else I get distracted while racing.
I use my Q3 for everything driving as well, though I will need to try a link cable. Just been using it wireless through a 6G router. I use a BoboVR S3 headset with batteries, will the link cable still work with the S3, or will I just need to not use the batteries and simply find a link cable like the one you have, that has an optional plug to charge while you play?
@@GamerMuscleVideos +1 for user experience and that’s about it from a sim racing standpoint. I can never get a satisfyingly clear and smooth VR experience with Quest 3 as I do with an Aero out the box and should be since there is a considerable gap in technology and price between the two and Quest 3 is a non-native pc-vr device.
VD gives better results than the link cable, when VD is set to godmode, no matter what you do the quest3 still has compression on distance objects. It should have had a DP/HDMI link. even tho with the compression in racing games I still like it better than the index/G2. Pico have ahead set comming with pancake lense that's wirless and has DP.
I don't think that's true , if best settings are used with link cable. I think people use bad link cable settings and then compare it to VD which has much better defaults or better general settings. Wifi in the end can't send as much data as a direct USB 3.0 cable (generally speaking in real world situations , theoretically it can but not sure about Q3 reciver + depends on router distance , signal quality and other factors) and both VD and link use h264/h265 , even when data rate is same with WiFi as a given cable you have to factor in more delay as well , due to the data traveling through more devices. (This might be quite minimal mind you) With settings I have used with link cable it looks very much like HDMI quality I'll try VD , but logically speaking unless oculus messed something up really bad it doesn't make sense for VD wireless to be better quality than a cable using higher data rates.
Awesome video. How are you able to record such smooth vr capture? Are you stabilizing the screen somehow? My captures are super wobbly and not a pleasant output for viewers.
Last time I mentioned the Quest 3 in one of your posts, another viewer lost it in the comments and got extremely triggered. I wonder if they just had an aneurysm after watching this video 😂
The first time I tried VR was on the last expo in Maastricht. Pretty funny it was actually mr Gamermuscle himself that stood behind me when i was driving in that setup from O-Rogue. You remember that guy that took of the headset and said hey it’s Gamermuscle? 😂. I was so blown away by that experience that I’m saving up for that Qubic motion system. Do you think just VR will do the trick for now or isn’t it the same experience?
Lol 😅 You can do cheaper motion that feels as good than qbic , DK2 sigma intagrali is good even if you just have 2 or 3 points motion , it's about 2500-3500 I think. I'm not to fussed with motion , VR and tactile transducers feel awesome for immersion to be honest and not expensive compared to full motion.
Tried G2 -> to small sweetspot -> went back to monitors. Tried Varjo Aero -> Amazing Resolution but to small sweetspot -> went back to monitors. Tried Pico 4 -> sweetspot is ok, but colors are bad -> went back to monitors. Tried Quest Pro -> sweetspot is amazing -> never used monitors again Tried Pimax Crystal -> ever superior Picture/Resolution like the Aero, but to small sweetspot -> still Quest Pro is my way to go Tried Quest 3 -> little higher resoltion, but colors little worse -> Quest 3 wins for me (on day driving)
@@GamerMuscleVideos Well, except the Q3 has higher resolution as well as a new chipset based on latest gen (of last year: SD8G2) with up to 2.5x GPU power compared to the QPro (based on SD865) for stand-alone gaming. Of course, if you use it for PC gaming only, you might not notice much of a difference (I haven't tried the Pro).
Just want to add an honorable mention to my Pico Neo 3 link. DP connection makes a big difference in quality and faffing levels. Can pick one up for just over half the cost of a Q3.
I have it and it destroys the Q3 ! The image is soo clear and crisp and lower latency than a streaming headset like Q3. I have tried all these streaming headsets , Quest Pro , Quest 2 , Quest 3 , Pico 4 and they are all awful for simracing. I would rather use my Rift S than any of these streaming headsets just for the lower latency. If you never had a PCVR headset with display port connection you will not notice how bad are these streaming headsets for simracing.
I haven't used the Neo 3 Link, but it uses fresnel lenses which will always be less clear than pancake. If I were someone reading this thread, I'd hold off on buying the Neo 3 Link and get something with pancake lenses.
@@pojokunam Have you had them both ? I had them both. What is the point having pancake lenses when the image is a smudgy mess because of the compression? You should try the Pico Neo 3 Link and then talk about the Fresnel lenses mate. I have to say that those fresnel are the best fresnel on the market. Not to mention that the pancake in q3 have horrible binocular overlap. So if you haven`t used the Pico Neo 3 Link how can you have an opinion on it? 😆
wow, i have been putting off getting a new headset. I love VR but i really don't like my current VR headset "Quest2" I was thinking i would have the same problems with the Quest3 but you totally sold me on it. I felt something was strange, my first vr headset was WMR Samsung Odyssey. I had to get a new headset "Quest2" because i had that loud static burst from WMR after wearing it for a minute. Went to the quest 2 and something was off, i did not feel as immersed, hard to explain but you nailed it. Have you heard of Valve Prism? I might buy a Quest3 today if i knew what the field of view was on the new headset from Valve. Anyways thanks a bunch for your video on this. I just started posting VR sim racing content on my channel.
You need to get out of the rig and walk around the car. That's fun in VR. Limited space and wires notwithstanding. Nice video. I'd love to try a Q3, though can't complain about my Pico 4. Affordable VR has come a long way.
I'm not sure if it physically can be better than link in an objective sense. Functionally I can see it being better In many ways. But if bandwidth of the link cable is higher then the quality should be better + you get the charging / no battery needed. But yah I'll try virtual disc top always hearing positive things about it 👍 be fun to fiddle with. Downside is I'd also need another router though 💪
@@GamerMuscleVideos It supports AV1 encoding so it's going to look better at lower bitrates, but it can still do 500mbs. It also has hardware super sampling/sharpening. Link is just a data cable, so the only thing it allows is more stable data connection, but the oculus software is basically abandonware (try to do 120hz on the Quest 3 for example) while Virtual Desktop gets continuous updates.
@@flowerdealer but when you're using the link cable, you can dial the FoV multiplier in the Oculus Debug Tool down to values around .7 - .8, which results in massive performance gains without any visual impact. Until today, this is not possible with VD.
Don't forget to set that bit rate to at least 850 in the Debug Tool. Max it even! No reason not to with modern GPUs. Minimise those compression artifacts!
The bigger thing is not having it set to dynamic. The quality difference between 500-900 is not that great (from my testing so far) , maybe more so in really games. But I was testing it side by side , biggest aspect was the dynamic but rate causing issues and then resolution , going under 300 had big impact. There will be a specific bit rate depending on codec where the improvmts are near to indistinguishable. I need to do more testing still though to be sure of the thresholds with specific games 👍
@@GamerMuscleVideos Yeah set the variable rate to 0. However, when you test Look at the road ahead when you are moving fast (the point at the horizon is the worst). Less than 500 and the distant track becomes noticeably... muddy(?) Some tracks need much higher. I have it 850 and haven't seen the mud since.
Anyone compare Quest 3 and HP Reverb G2? Q2 was significantly low res in comparison. Was thinking of a Varjo Aero with the price drop (I know it’s discontinued but…)
I have both. G2 has slightly higher resolution, but the pancake lenses, wider FOV and bigger sweet spot more than make up for it. If you plan to buy one of them - the G2 isn't procuded anymore and the cables are either out of stock or way overpriced so despite still loving my G2 - I can't recommend to buy it anymore.
So it sounds like you’re saying if the G2 was still in prod you’d recommend it over the G2. Is that correct? I’m wondering if replacing by working G2 with a Q3 is a worthy upgrade. Edit: So it sounds like you’re saying if the G2 was still in prod you’d recommend it over the Q3. Is that correct? You’re next post answered my intended question.
Quest 3 is better than varjo aero and G2 , pancake lenses and edge to edge clarity is great also Q3 is really comfortable with after market head strap. I spent 9 hours setting up link cable and finding settings I'll make a guide video soon
Yeah.. I think so. Difficult choice actually, the G2 does have a bit higher resolution and even using a BoBovr strap for the Q3, the G2 is more comfy to wear, less bulky. Personally I'd choose the Q3 but then again I'm not sure if you find the upgrade worth the money @@jeffspruiel6686
How is battery life for you when using a link cable? Mine drains quite a lot using a cable and since I can't use a spare battery when a linkcable is plugged in that's a bit of an issue. @@GamerMuscleVideos
When doing the cable settings video, could you share also the settings u use in for example iracing and oculusdebug? I am surprised i can run iracing now with solid 90 fps, 40 cars grid and almost every setting on high (yes with a 4090 gpu). In car everything looks great but i need to tweak a bit more for the outside, it still looks to sharp somehow. So curious what you are using/running :)
Do you think it’s good enough to upgrade from an HP Reverb 2? I had a Quest 2 prior to the HP. Also, Agreed that the comfort and speakers aren’t the best when it comes to Quest headsets
Clarity up close is pretty damn good, but farther out was really not great, which is where I look when racing. ACC looked better than iRacing, but both had issues farther out. There’s no settings I could get to fix that even with max resolution set, so if anyone knows how to sort that out, I’d love to know.
@gamermusclevideos - YES PLEASE to a Video showing how to achieve this. As posted below, I bought the correct cable, passed the USB test, followed recommended settings and no success... 😢- thank youuuuu
Thanks for watching ! Here is my link to cable that also charges when in use > amzn.to/3Hxcudy Here is my link to current Quest 3 price > amzn.to/3S99MA6

Awesome ☕

I went from quest 2, to psvr2 in GT7, to iracing on the quest 2 again. I then upgraded to a quest 3 and could never ever go back. The lenses make such a massive difference both visually and for comfort
Do you feel the psvr2 is worth it? I currently have the quest 2 with mainly iracing. Feel like I'm missing out on GT7 but I'm not a fan of single screen racing.
I am on the fence about upgrading from the Quest 2. I like hearing these type of comments!
Hi, what graphics card do you have currently? Do you really feel the difference between quest 2 vs 3? Thanks in advance !!!! 🙏
@@billbaggins1688 Quest 3 is vastly better, upgrade!
Please do a video on how to optimise VR. It’s just too confusing for me and do not have any idea what I need to do to get max frame rate while maintaining visual fidelity
I remember the screen door effect on those early versions. VR is getting insane! Love it. He is right! Those pancake lenses are a game changer!
i just got into sim racing (AC, ACC and AM2) and tragically bought the HTC Vive Elite XR to see what it’s like for sim racing and it has put me off all forms of VR. After seeing so many positive reviews, i’m eagerly waiting my quest 3 to get delivered. better be good and thanks for the video.
Did you like it?
Can’t blame Meta for this as there isn’t a standard VR implementation right now.
if you are patient and willing to invest time setting it up perfectly, yes the immersion alone is worth it
The quest 3 is so much more comfortable with an aftermarket strap compared to the HTC Vive Elite. the next one i will try to get is the Bigscren Beyond or wait for the Quest Pro 2.
@@deesee76 cmon give the update
Nice one, great description of the feeling it gives. I only simrace in VR, it's sooooo good these days!
I remember when you were doing the DK1 and DK2 videos, I cant believe its been 10 years. Cheers!
I’m also on the Quest 3 hype train.
Really like it!
It's crazy, got my son quest 3 for Christmas. I've got the psvr2 for Gt7 and they are both amazing headsets to be fair. The immersion is brilliant.
yah quite liked psvr and its controlers , shame you have to plug it into a playstation , i think if sony did a stand alone hmd it could be killer but sony seem to be all over the place.
@@GamerMuscleVideos doesn't bother me to have to plug it in. You plugged quest 3 in to a pc that's probably 5 times more expensive than my ps5.
@@nextgengaming7803yeah, but the only drawback is the really really bad AI in GT7. If that was better I probably bought a PSVR2. Just for GT7.
@@bullshark1152 not every race is even remotely like that with ai though.
3:00 to 3:05 ...the next accessory you could ask for is an integrated wig with a cable-ponytail and forget headstrap!!! Spot on review anyway
I'm convinced they don't give you a better strap just so they can sell the better strap to you.
Like there crazy USB cable lol
Thing is I wouldn't even mind paying 100+ for a boboVr with valve index headphones I think meta could even make money from this.
I get them wanting q3 to be portable and keep costs down with there base unit due to it being sold at loss.
But yah the gains you get from head strap + some tweaks make it a different HMD lol.
It's weird apple seem to be making same errors even when selling for 3500..
Yea and then you end up paying £700 for a Q3 to see the smudgy compressed image trough some nice clear lenses 😂
For me they did exactly the right thing... try youtube while laying in your bed, once with the standard strap, then with a BoboVR strap...
I was thinking the same before getting mine but I kind of see their point now, not everyone will need one - I have a massive head for instance and surprisingly the stock one is very comfortable
@@HDRGamingHub Not true. If you get a decent cable and increase the transfer rate there's basically no difference to a dedicated video cable.
Used your affiliate link to buy the USB cable, great cable. Getting 2.7Gbps and maintaining a full charge. Thanks!

I've been on the quest 3 since launch and it's excellent.
Thanks for the video information about the Quest 3 and will be getting one soon . I have 3 older tethered VR headsets and like/use the Rift S right now because of the VR headset having a wider sweet spot.

However, plenty real world gokart wins and a single seater real world win and plenty rental race car track day experiences, besides buy cars just to get out from A and don't really care about B, but more the driver experience, I think my body driver muscles can obide from my visual lacks anyway 😅
Thanks for the analysis, now my wife have scorched the household economics with kitchen and house project, so think I'll have to wait for a Quest 4 somewhere in 2027 or so...
Try wifi streaming with Virtual Desktop. Image quality with a capable wifi router is even a lot better than with link cable 😊
Yes the quest3 and open wheel cars are bliss especially using a formula sim rig 😊
Absolutely agree, I race in vr now only :)
WRC 23 is, due to its current lack of VR support, the only sim I tolerate not using my HMD with. The immersion with VR is so good, it even mitigates the FFB in ACC, believe it or not. 🙂
I've had the DK2, the Pimax 4K, the Rift S, Quest 2 and now Quest 3. And yes, once you got the settings for Oculus Link dialed in properly, it's an outstanding headset, especially given its price range.

Agreed , also use OpenXR ( not steam VR ) all easy , use some of the options in that for optimisations & can gain another 30% performance eg higher settings & more head room
Like having a new GPU seriously , Quest3 is impressive
You mean the Open XR runtime in Virtual Desktop? I thought it only works with MS Flightsimulator 2020?
Oh you got that right my HP Reverb g2 won't run steam VR at all with our Open composite and open xr it's a must for the reverb g2 it's because mixed reality sucks
This looks really good, be very helpful if you let us know your settings both external and in-game? Also, did you use via Oculus VR or SteamVR?
I really wish the VF tec worked for me. But I get motion sickness with the PSVR2 on GT7 and I tried everything to make it work. The triple monitor setup is all I have at the moment. I really hope they can get the VR with higher frame rate next time around. For me the PSVR2 is not 4 k like the TV. It seems a little on the 1080p side. It’s super cool tho. Good video mate!
As soon as you took off the headset I chubbed up. 🥰
Would the Quest3 not just be a sideways move to my G2?
I would be since the reverb has a dp port and better brightness.@@fingers68
As a G2 owner, I personally only have eyes on either the bigscreen beyond, or wait for the Somnium VR1.. although much more expensive than originally stated and it still being in development the Somnium could bring a whole new experience for sim racers/ flight simmers. It certainly ticks all the boxes on paper, just the price of it that's concerning and the fact its not finished being made yet lol
maybe its finally time to give VR a try...
It will blow your mind, but make sure you have really powerfull pc and it's not plug and play you always need to tweak for performance.
At the end when you took the head set off, you could just double tapped the side of the Quest with your fingers and gone to pass through.
I just got mine today. It's amazing value for money but you do need to put up with some quircks.

I love my Q3.... Big hug to all 2k pimax owners 😂
I can't stand compressed video streamming...
I have a PSVR2 which I like and is technically a better headset, but these pancake lenses are fantastic and it's more comfortable (throw the included headstrap in the bin) and I'm using this headset a ton for driving. It's very fun.
We need a GM "So Immersed" slow ballad
VR is not just about resolution. I just wished it had eye tracking as dfr is a game changer for titles like ACC.
yah foveated rendering and eye tracking is great even more so in the future when it comes to using menus , depth tracking and a bunch of things. to be honest for now the main thing is developers not using deferred rendering engines.
A video using it with MS Flight Simulator would be cool.
Hopefully I make sense 🙃 and can get an answer.
i had a windows mixed reality which i returned showed a glimpse of what could come ,but had terrible battery life on the controllers.the quest 3 controllers compared with 1 AA last for weeks and are so compact.
there are so many positives ... but for me personally to much complication in the whole setup process ... when they make the whole interface/use less cluttered more people will jump onboard,[smartphones pro that point]
still am enjoying all the halflife VR versions ... especially HL2
i still want a bigscreen beyond but this is making me reconsider at about half the price
I had some time off so thought I'd set up my Quest 3 on iRacing just for a laugh. Wow. It is that good I have sold my HP g2.
In South African Rand's this cost 85% of my salary😢😢😢😢in fact most headset cost most of my salary.
Zuck really nailed that one, I was resistant to get a non-hdmi headsince, since I only use it for sim racing, but the next comparable one was double the price lol
Unless you use wifi gaming (non simulator) then you are fucked. THe antenna array or power output of the wifi client are completely stuffed.
It's really a shame that they don't offer the option to connect it to PC via DP cable, let alone all the meta account sh*t, I'd rather consider buying a Pymax Crystal, having the money, as an upgrade for my Reverb G2, which BTW is still a very good VR headset IMHO, cheers
Have you experienced HP reverb G2 to say if is this the same level of upgrade? Thanks
yes, that would be great to know 🙂
I have yah quest 3 is a nice upgrade I think , mostly just from pancake lenses and general clarity + feels wider fov if I remember correctly.
What GPU/CPU are you running my man? Also how is the latency?
whats the input lag/ latency using the link cable for simracing on the quest 3 compared to the valve index/ normal average monitor for example?
Oh you didn't!!! 😂
P. S BoboVr got a new headstrap coming out with 10000 battery and fan... Yes I ordered one 😊
Once you experience a Varjo Aero its tough to go to anything else though Varjo has discontinued this headset unfortunately. The Aero is SHARP!
Quest 3 has a better all round image though
(This might be quite minimal mind you)
With settings I have used with link cable it looks very much like HDMI quality
I'll try VD , but logically speaking unless oculus messed something up really bad it doesn't make sense for VD wireless to be better quality than a cable using higher data rates.
100% vr simracer here too :)
But with Pico 4, just as good :)
Virtual Desktop and a good Wifi 6 dedicated router...no wire excellent graphics.
Do you have hi end rig
Yea, you need a good setup. @@phillea708
2:46 - I wondered where that was going for a second... 😳
Awesome video. How are you able to record such smooth vr capture? Are you stabilizing the screen somehow? My captures are super wobbly and not a pleasant output for viewers.
Most jarring thing avout that was no hands on the steering wheel.
I play AC and AMS2 loads on the Q3 - it's truly great.
Last time I mentioned the Quest 3 in one of your posts, another viewer lost it in the comments and got extremely triggered. I wonder if they just had an aneurysm after watching this video 😂
Lol probably an AMS2 fan they are very special people , as long as you don't put your hands through the cage or tap on the glass they are fine.
@@GamerMuscleVideos hahaha 😆 😂
Do it wirelessly btw! Way better and still great graphics
Im looking into buying one! Thanks! What are your pc specs??
The first time I tried VR was on the last expo in Maastricht. Pretty funny it was actually mr Gamermuscle himself that stood behind me when i was driving in that setup from O-Rogue. You remember that guy that took of the headset and said hey it’s Gamermuscle? 😂. I was so blown away by that experience that I’m saving up for that Qubic motion system. Do you think just VR will do the trick for now or isn’t it the same experience?
Lol 😅
You can do cheaper motion that feels as good than qbic , DK2 sigma intagrali is good even if you just have 2 or 3 points motion , it's about 2500-3500 I think.
I'm not to fussed with motion , VR and tactile transducers feel awesome for immersion to be honest and not expensive compared to full motion.
@@GamerMuscleVideos that’s good to hear. Thanks for answering!
Tried G2 -> to small sweetspot -> went back to monitors.
Tried Varjo Aero -> Amazing Resolution but to small sweetspot -> went back to monitors.
Tried Pico 4 -> sweetspot is ok, but colors are bad -> went back to monitors.
Tried Quest Pro -> sweetspot is amazing -> never used monitors again
Tried Pimax Crystal -> ever superior Picture/Resolution like the Aero, but to small sweetspot -> still Quest Pro is my way to go
Tried Quest 3 -> little higher resoltion, but colors little worse -> Quest 3 wins for me (on day driving)
Yah iv used quest pro , quest 3 is basically the same thing but with worse head strap.
Valve prism was a joke , it's not real. Though valve will probably do another HMD within next two years.
It's a shame they didn't make a PC version of the Q3. No standalone, no flashy passthrough. Just the lenses and a DP connection.
Facebook abandoned pc gamers years ago
You need to get out of the rig and walk around the car. That's fun in VR. Limited space and wires notwithstanding.
Nice video. I'd love to try a Q3, though can't complain about my Pico 4. Affordable VR has come a long way.
That was one of the first things we did years ago 👍💪
Virtual Desktop is actually better quality than link now, as long as you have a rock solid router and wireless connection.
@@GamerMuscleVideos
Yeah set the variable rate to 0.
However, when you test Look at the road ahead when you are moving fast (the point at the horizon is the worst). Less than 500 and the distant track becomes noticeably... muddy(?) Some tracks need much higher. I have it 850 and haven't seen the mud since.
Is there any comparable setting for this for HP G2 in steam VR windows mixed reality..
Quest 3 is best bang for buck for VR.
Incredible in DCS too.
Now, I think you need to do a setup video for the Quest 3 and AC1 🙂
Thanks for the video. What confort headstrap are you using (link)?
When doing the cable settings video, could you share also the settings u use in for example iracing and oculusdebug? I am surprised i can run iracing now with solid 90 fps, 40 cars grid and almost every setting on high (yes with a 4090 gpu). In car everything looks great but i need to tweak a bit more for the outside, it still looks to sharp somehow. So curious what you are using/running :)
I prefer watching this view over 2D. You should try streaming it!
Do you think it’s good enough to upgrade from an HP Reverb 2? I had a Quest 2 prior to the HP.
Also, Agreed that the comfort and speakers aren’t the best when it comes to Quest headsets
great info and entertaining, thank you.
Clarity up close is pretty damn good, but farther out was really not great, which is where I look when racing. ACC looked better than iRacing, but both had issues farther out. There’s no settings I could get to fix that even with max resolution set, so if anyone knows how to sort that out, I’d love to know.
Hey GM can you do a video on the new quest 3s please? Can you tether it to the PC?
@gamermusclevideos - YES PLEASE to a Video showing how to achieve this. As posted below, I bought the correct cable, passed the USB test, followed recommended settings and no success... 😢- thank youuuuu
Link cable? What's that?! 😊
