Last weekend I finally hit that euphoric moment of losing the external world and feeling like I was actually in the game sitting in the LMDH BMW racing AMS2-- (i have been using VR since DK1 and Live for Speed)
This is huge, I've got an index but I've stopped using it as I literally can't see past the screen door effect and find it overly distracting. Time to sell it and get a Quest 3 lmao
@@GamerMuscleVideosI too just went index -> quest. I understand what you mean by "this is what I've been waiting for" for the first time it's just good. No caveats. No notes. I thought it would be just my pcvr setup, but the standalone is punching over its class. Good video. The comparison will be a murder.
I've been racing with VR in AMS2 for years. Quest 3 is best at default resolution with SS in game to boost clarity. If you max out resolution in Oculus settings it looks like shit in comparison. Also make sure to open the AMS2 document folder and go to the Oculusvr settings and put the Sharpening at the bottom to 3.0. Use High MSAA, and adjust performance by using the FoV tangent in Debug tool. I run 90fps consistently in night or rain too using .4 vertical fov tangent. The vertical FoV is amazing in Quest 3 so you dont even notice it. Also all cam settings to 0 with legacy cam activated really gives you that real connection to the car. Also in the debug tool use low Distortion curve, 960 Encode bitrate, and Normal Link Sharpening. These settings are best for Quest 3.
Man, I was using x1.5 resolution in Oculus with 940 bitrate and was so underwhelmed by the results (cockit was ultra sharp but road textures and environment were muddy) that I was about to send it back for refund and keep my Reverb G2. Glad I saw your comment because after using all your settings it was night and day! Now I get it when GamerMuscle says it's ultra sharp and all!
@@CoolSpy_FR I agree with everything you list here other than the sharpness, which I have at .3. I find that even at 1 it looks too sharp and it adds a bit of jumpiness to pixels at a distance. Unfortunately my GPU is nowwhere near as powerful as yours (which I bet is a rtx4090?) so with the settings above and all else in ultra, the most I get is around 30 fps with SS at 1.5, although I've managed to push it to 1.8 with sunny races. It drops to about 25 fps which is still playable. But yes, the key thing is to use native Quest resolution with as much super sampling as you can get away with. Surprisingly I get about 1 fps less with the Quest 3 then I do with the Q2, but naturally the image quality is so much better. Really glad I got the Q3 last week, so are my children. I picked up a Pico 4 to experiment pc. I picked one up for 150£ eBay and probably slightly clearer than the psvr2 and quest screen but the psvr has hdr and an awesome oled screen. Pico 4 is a slightly better buy over the quest imo at least for plug in pc play. Once you replace the front face cover to something more like a psvr face cover it is one of the best. Lightest and most comfortable. ATM I'm hooked on gt7 vr I'm surprised you never tried it but this does seem interesting I may try it this out if it's not much a fiddle on pc. I've been fiddling with uevr praydog and lukeross mods and it's pretty neat. However the plug and play of psvr is too awesome somtimes I've been extremely Happy with the psvr2 and GT7/Re8/RE4 although psvr2 has minor mura issue which is also distracting at first. Once you get over it it's not so bad.
From what I understand with pancake lenses 110Fov horizontal is basically the limit , before it the lense has to be made such it diminishes quality in the centre. 110deg to me is what I'd consider the minimum for immersion I'd love more 😅
HiTech @ Imola is a fun choice. Try taking HiTech around Bathurst and see how AI get on with the dipper. AMS2 is really progressing, it's a different game to what it was last year, every time I hop in it seems to have improved since last time. Hopefully more sales for Reiza, and more money means more development. Firstly a career progression, maybe similar to what project cars 2 was. Then hopefully next an amazing ranked daily race series, maybe LFM of their own take of iRacing series. If Reiza pull this off then this will be one of the best sims out there. I think they will do it. There is not a sim that does it all yet IMO. iRacing has the online series down and is great in VR but expensive, no career. AC almost has it all, requires a lot of faff & lacks a decent career but LFM is a step up in online racing. ACC, limited cars, shite in VR unless you have NASA's PC. Race Room, RF2 and all the others just don't have the user base. I really hop AMS 2 will give us the whole package eventually. Also i'm loving my Quest 3 and only race in VR
Saw your previous VR video using AMS2 and decided to download the demo off of Steam. I am not using the Q3 however, I am still running on an Index and I find the level of detail very good... even on my three year old rig. But!!! I am not a car sim driver and I was quite horrible starting out (still am...) and attempting to motor around the track caused me no problems in terms of motion sickness. Then, I started to get the tinyest bit better, hitting my breaking marks... flowing through corners... accelerating out... and that is when it hit... My gut did a tripple gainer and I had to pull off the headset to give the stomach a break. I was very frustrated with this as I have been playing FPS in VR for years now and I don't have these issues. Is this something I just have to get used to? Or, am I doomed?🤢
If you're new to driving sims in VR it can be helpful to use the lock to horizon setting in games that have it. I used this when I started. Now that I have my VR legs I use lock to car.
The demo is making really, really bad justice to AMS2. Regarding motion sickness, not sure if the demo has it, but full build offers 2 types of camera stabilization, every mode works a bit differently. Use full horizon lock in legacy mode if you are experiencing motion sickness. It has one flaw: the horizon is locked on world, not on track tangens. You will see it on big banks. But for training your VR legs it is perfect. And... point a fan at yourself.
Fun thing to do in VR is stepping “out of the car” in AC if you got enough room. Especially high detailed cars like those from RSS are a joy to walk around and inspect all the fine details. One tip, stop the car first. Don’t get out while you are driving. 😅
A bit sad You never got to test the Varjo Aero after they finally got the color aberration fixed, but great that the q3 works so well for You. It really is at a good price point👍
I don't feel like the Q3 is anything game changing. I bought a Reverb G2 two Black Fridays ago on sale for $300 USD as a significant step up from the Rift CV1 I had before and love it (except for the WMR part). I was able to try out a Quest 3 while at a Best Buy here in the states and thought the clarity was on par with my G2. To me, game changers would be things like the Varjo Aero or the Bigscreen Beyond. They're just a bit pricey at this time.
@@zmmmzmmmz It's pretty high resolution, so you need something good. I tried it with my old 1080Ti and it wasn't even close to cutting it and forced me to upgrade. I went with a 6950XT and it's handling it pretty good.
I wish there was a way to trial these before you buy- day by day you are tempting me but (1) don’t want to break my brain and (2) need to be sure it’s worth it with my pc (amd 5600 with rx6600 and 32gb ram).
I modified the crap out of my hp reverb g2 (put the rift S halo on it so the goggles aren't even touching my face👌👌 ) But I can't really see a way to mount a halo on this one.. And Vr headsets with headbands big no no for me... 😑
I'm quite tempted by the Quest 3, but I'm kinda happy with the Quest 2 for now, and don't really use it a whole lot, so I'm going to wait for the Quest 4. I reckon it'll be a Game Changer (TM).
My settings are maxing all the settings in virtual destkop. Bitrate, sharpness, enable snapdragon sharpnessuse 4080 godlike setting. In steamvr, 70% supersampling. It is the most sharpest experi3nce ever. You offload all the power from the pc to the headset and you have clarity beyond clarity. The headset grabs the 70% ss from steamvr and makes it look like 4k. And you are left with alot of headroom in the ss setting. I use a rtx 3090.
Hey man, love these VR videos. Can you do a more detailed breakdown between this and the Aero? I have the Aero on loan but will have to buy my own shortly and was looking at quest 3 so I don’t have to sell my organs on the black market. The Aero is the first headset I could tolerate the clarity/experience in VR. Tried reverb G2 and hated the experience
I have only used the aero a few times But generally speaking the quest 3s main thing was it being lighter and more comfortable I think ayro has higher rez but Q3 wider fov and rez is fine. The issue with Q3 is more having a fast enough pc to get the most out of it than the HMDs rez being an issue. Aero benefits from being able to be plugged into PC directly but is basically a discontinued hmd from varjo So quest 3 makes more sense overall comfort + support.
I have quest 3 but unfortunately I’ve never gotten link connection to work so I’m stuck with virtual desktop. Have you shared your settings for ams2 to make it look good?
@@GamerMuscleVideos when racing in VR I am streaming or recording on Mac Mini cos streaming from same comp was lagging the games, even iRacing what actually works the best with Quest 3. Then I extending desktop and on one screen is AMS2 and on the other - which is connected to the capture card I am opening full screen Oculus mirror. It works like that for me.
Is the difference so impressive when comparing quest 2 and 3? I have the q2 and almost never play ams2 on VR because of the lack of quality. I have the resolution maxed out, at 120Hz, so I would expect more from it.
I don't know, I still can't rlly see that big clarity. Yeah it looks good, but not perfect, specially in the distance. Or maybe I did something wrong... But yeah, it's cool
Be careful with this on q3 though as can cause jaggies from being to sharp. I found the link sharpening was enough on its own with 1.5x in Occulus software.
I don't need any more sharpening link cable on normal is already quite a a bit of sharpening , the more sharpening you ad the more AA you then need. Also too much sharpening starts to make things look like a bad Photoshop filter. You can sharpen in game , with openxr or with link cable.
@GamerMuscleVideos but why aren't you listening to the advice they read in a guide some guy created having only used a rift s ?? Haha Your spot on - no sharpening needed - speaking from experience ;)
@@shaneabbott4240 OK, but to be clear, you don't know what we talking about, but still it's so easy to be smart and even toxic. I'm optimizing vr visuals 3 years now, and even with Q3 the advice the guy gave, is very noticeable in term of visual clarity.
Until the Pimax 12K comes out, nothing comes close to the Pimax 8K X especially the latest version (serial number with 2076 instead of 2075) which has a beta firmware for 120 Hz instead of 90. The FOV is INCREDIBLE. The FOV means you're not looking through a keyhole into a videogame world but, instead, you're literally in the game. Think about the difference in immersion and sense of speed between a single-screen and triple-screen setup. The sweet spot for FOV, image quality, and framerates with the 8K X is the 2nd widest FOV called "normal" which is still like 140 degrees horizontal (large is around 160 but framerates suffer and I believe it affects image quality a bit).
I think overall it's much better but you can see compression with link cable in certain scenarios. I'm going through some more settings and testing to work out what the maximum I can get from device is + oculus r doing update this week. I think Q3 still wins out overall though.
Not the most technological advanced cars ... these cars are still considered the most technological sophisticated cars even by modern standards. Active suspension, ABS, TC, semi aswell as fully automatic gearbox, power steering, telemetry etc ... XD
Ok ok , but I'm sure that stuff will still be simple compared to the ECU , power delivery , meterail, fluid dynamic and all the other tech that's done both inside and outside of modern formula cars now. I mean it's just different and different time and paradigm for the vehicles.
@@GamerMuscleVideos Don't get me wrong, I understand where you are going with this. Technological progress is there by nature obviously. I am not sure we would be having all that hybrid tech today if it wasn't mandated by the rules though. One thing that certainly has progressed alot is tyre technology. If you take a look at the average speeds at tracks like Barcelona the FW15C would still be pretty competetive. :)

I have my sick note ready for when the Pimax 12k comes out in 2035
From what I understand with pancake lenses 110Fov horizontal is basically the limit , before it the lense has to be made such it diminishes quality in the centre.
110deg to me is what I'd consider the minimum for immersion I'd love more 😅
Is everything so shaky and bumby when using the VR? Or is that just because it’s recorded?
It’s not shaky when you have headset on it’s just the recording
@gamermuscle have you compared your link settings with using virtual desktop and an ethernet adaptor. If so any comments on that?
I’m not a sim racer at all, but man, I love your Quest 3 streams, and you’ve got yourself another subscriber 😂
I've owned most of the VR headsets and the Q3 is so far my favourite. Just so easy on my eyes.
What if you compare it to the HP G2?
Own a G2, small sweet spot just does not work for me. @@renehoude7705
Do you have any settings for IRacing.
Used your settings in the debug tool, but still suffering from antialiasing far away on the track
So what wheel are you running with now in VR?
I don't feel like the Q3 is anything game changing. I bought a Reverb G2 two Black Fridays ago on sale for $300 USD as a significant step up from the Rift CV1 I had before and love it (except for the WMR part). I was able to try out a Quest 3 while at a Best Buy here in the states and thought the clarity was on par with my G2. To me, game changers would be things like the Varjo Aero or the Bigscreen Beyond. They're just a bit pricey at this time.
Thanks. Owning a G2, exactly what I wanted to know. To sound of the G2 is great. Often overlook.
What video card for good VR with G2?
@@zmmmzmmmz just a 3070. I run every app :)
@@renehoude7705 wow my 2070 super is a dog in VR, was expecting I'd need a 4070 to super or 4080
@@zmmmzmmmz It's pretty high resolution, so you need something good.
Could I run the Quest 3 with 90fps in AMS2 with a 3090 and 3950x? ❤
AMS2 VR QUEST 3 link cable setup vid when?
Hmmm no, reverb g2 is better and thats 3 or 4 years old. No compression, better stereo overlap, better brightness, better speakers. Better comfort.
I modified the crap out of my hp reverb g2 (put the rift S halo on it so the goggles aren't even touching my face👌👌 ) But I can't really see a way to mount a halo on this one.. And Vr headsets with headbands big no no for me... 😑
Does anybody own both Quest 3 and HP Reverb G2? What are your thoughts?
I'm quite tempted by the Quest 3, but I'm kinda happy with the Quest 2 for now, and don't really use it a whole lot, so I'm going to wait for the Quest 4. I reckon it'll be a Game Changer (TM).
I think mr Muscle should try a PICO4 ... seems its the first pancake lenses he uses :P
I have a pico 4 swapped my quest 2 for it. I want to get my hands on a quest 3 to try out now to compare
GM have you added any mods for AMS 2?
Keep the VR content coming!
I have only used the aero a few times
But generally speaking the quest 3s main thing was it being lighter and more comfortable I think ayro has higher rez but Q3 wider fov and rez is fine.
The issue with Q3 is more having a fast enough pc to get the most out of it than the HMDs rez being an issue.
Aero benefits from being able to be plugged into PC directly but is basically a discontinued hmd from varjo
So quest 3 makes more sense overall comfort + support.
guess i am getting a quest 3 and new computer now
I have a Quest 3 also. I think the input lag is way too high for it to be seriously usable.
I have quest 3 but unfortunately I’ve never gotten link connection to work so I’m stuck with virtual desktop.
Have you shared your settings for ams2 to make it look good?
You could use Oculus mirror and this stabilization future under F8 - you can still setup it wide but for video viewers is a bit jerky without it
No you can't because AMS2 takes away focus from the window and makes the mirror lag out.
@@GamerMuscleVideos hmmm no later like yesterday I was doing just this then I guess it is possible
I never understood the upset around watching recorded vr. It looks great to me and more realistic than watching a single screen capture.
Is the difference so impressive when comparing quest 2 and 3? I have the q2 and almost never play ams2 on VR because of the lack of quality. I have the resolution maxed out, at 120Hz, so I would expect more from it.
The Quest 3 is a huge upgrade from the Quest 2. Now wait until you try the Pimax Crystal or even the Varjo XR-4!
More VR content, happy days!
nice, i love ams2, for the record that car has DRS :D
35-45ms lag, compared to 12-15ms of on HP G2 is very sensible 😢
Reverb has about 30 I've read
So tempted to get one
Do it!
Pico 4 is all you need, if you're only doing PCVR. £200 secondhand. Quest 3 marginally better, but much more expensive.
Ok Ok already!@@aj_avant
Just so much easier to have close racing with vr, i can never go back to screens
The Somnium Vr1 will give pimax crystal levels of clarity over a wider FOV (125-130). Releasing in one month.
Loving the VR videos!
Who would've though that there will be a time you like AMS2 more than me😆
Issue I have with ams2 is holding FPS when it drops spacewarp kicks in and it then goes to poo
I could be wrong here, but I'm just starting to form the impression that you really, really like the Quest 3?
Just got a call from Zuckerberg ...the factory cannot cope with the Sales rant of GM...STOP IT 😂🎉
Can you try this on DirtRally2, since WRC doesn't have VR yet?
I don't know, I still can't rlly see that big clarity. Yeah it looks good, but not perfect, specially in the distance. Or maybe I did something wrong... But yeah, it's cool
What res u running at>
Do you run with open composite or steamvr.
More please
Have you also fiddled with the sharpening tool in documents/Ams 2 folder? Make it even sharper!
I would listen this guy!
Haha
Your spot on - no sharpening needed - speaking from experience ;)
@@shaneabbott4240 OK, but to be clear, you don't know what we talking about, but still it's so easy to be smart and even toxic. I'm optimizing vr visuals 3 years now, and even with Q3 the advice the guy gave, is very noticeable in term of visual clarity.
The Quest 3 has performance of a HMD three times the price.
FACT ⚠️
Someone is falling in love with a new sim it seams :-).
Rtx 3070 enough for quest 3 and ams2?
On lower settings sure
@@GamerMuscleVideos not worth to buy it then if it has to run on lower settings?
Until the Pimax 12K comes out, nothing comes close to the Pimax 8K X especially the latest version (serial number with 2076 instead of 2075) which has a beta firmware for 120 Hz instead of 90. The FOV is INCREDIBLE. The FOV means you're not looking through a keyhole into a videogame world but, instead, you're literally in the game. Think about the difference in immersion and sense of speed between a single-screen and triple-screen setup. The sweet spot for FOV, image quality, and framerates with the 8K X is the 2nd widest FOV called "normal" which is still like 140 degrees horizontal (large is around 160 but framerates suffer and I believe it affects image quality a bit).
more VR videos please!
Can’t see this beating my pimax crystal!
Looks rad!
How does it compare to the HP Reverb G2 I'm worried about compression due to USB before I trade in my G2
I think overall it's much better but you can see compression with link cable in certain scenarios.
I'm going through some more settings and testing to work out what the maximum I can get from device is + oculus r doing update this week.
I think Q3 still wins out overall though.
OK try now in f1 23 and be dissapointed lmao
More VR videos please
What graphics card was running for this .
Also, VR is good for streamers who get punched in their face often, no need for makeup, always look sharp.
Wait until he tries Varjo Aero or Pimax Crystal.
Or Bigscreen Beyond.
I have used a VarjonAero
The main reason I like quest 3 is that it's light as well as sharp and clear due to pancake lenses.
