Hi guys thanks for the Info very helpful! Just a quick question I already have a full car driving licence, in part 1 of the d2 form under "I want provisional entitlement" there is 'first entitlement' and 'additional provisional entitlement' and I'm not sure which box is the right one to cross but in your video you missed both boxes so does that bit not need filling? Any info would be great
Hi Christopher, thanks for reaching out! Let's say you want to drive a bus, that would be the first entitlement box you tick for 'D'. An additional entitlement would be if you wanted to add Lorry 'C' just in case for the future!
Realistically the DVLA aren't too picky! You can cross/ tick all of them and they will put onto your licence what applies.

Hi, thanks a lot for the illustration and the very valuable tip at the end. My question is if I sent the my cat B driving licence, am I still allowed to drive my car while it is with the DVAL or should I wait until the DVLA return it?
No you're perfectly okay to carry on driving we would advise that you take photos of the front and back of your driving license just in case.👍

When I passed my motorcycle test in 2008, there was a phase where DVLA would 'lose' entitlements and you'd have to prove you had them to get them back. Clearly taking a photo of your DL front and rear before sending it off would be a good idea, but have you heard of this 'lost entitlements' being an issue nowadays? Thanks!
Yes this still does happen and we do advise for students to take photocopies or photos of their license. This is even happened to one of our instructors. Thank you for your comments and your kind words.👍👍

You will receive your original driving license back and it will look the same. But when you check online, under the provisional section you will now have a Cat C entitlement.

Thanks for the great video!!! Just got a question. The D4 form says the medical report is only valid for 4 months from the date of examination. Does it mean I have to pass all the modules within 4 months?
No
No. Once the DVLA have your paperwork i.e. D2 D4 this will last as long as the provisional will last on your license. You can then complete the modules within that time frame. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the videos guys. One question, I passed my LGV license back around 2000, I let the medical slip years later as I thought I wouldn't need to use it again. I now want to do my HGV training and filling in the D4 form it states 'date first licensed to drive a bus or lorry', I do not remember this date nor is it on my license anymore for referral. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

There would be no reason to do this as I will have it on record. You would probably need to tell your employer when your license checks are carried out. 👍👍

@@thomaspalmer1019 This will be an additional but if you tick first there is no problem make sure you tick Truck and Bus. It doesn't cost any more and you never know.🤔👍👍👍👍👍

So from what you’re saying crossing all the boxes on categories doesn’t really matter, just a bonus when you think about it! So if I cross all the boxes is it a first entitlement or additional provisional entitlement?
This would be your first entitlement for these vehicles. Although we have had students tick additional provisional entitlement and they still got it back.

Unfortunately not, You can not do the theory until you have the provisional entitlement on your license and you will need to have your license with you when you go for your theory.👍
@National Driving Centre I sent my licence away and it came back looking exactly the same with no dates is that normal I did then go on to pass my theory test but then things changed now I want to go on and do it over again but I wanted to know how long the provisional lasts for as there are no dates on my card

Hi there! If you tick all of the boxes on first entitlement including PCV (Cat D) the DVLA will put all vehicle categories on there :)

Hi.... just need to confirm I am applying first provisional entitlement D1(minibus) and I have full UK photo card driving licence(B). Do I need to fill section 7 ( your decoration) and checklist on the left..... most appreciated and thanks for helping everyone
Just sign the declaration and you are all good! The photo stays the same as the licence you are sending. Unless you want to change. Then you pay, have to sign, attach etc

Good morning David, Thank you for your question. Yes you would need to send your licence for the provisional Cat C to be added, you should not need to update your photo at this stage.
Hi! On the D4 form, the grey section I need to fill out it mentions half way down “date first licensed to drive a bus or lorry”. I’m just applying for a provisional so I’m not sure what to put for this! Thanks in advance!

Hi Jennifer, when you get your licence back from the DVLA it all updates electronically. The licence will not look any different. So when you get it back you can book, or we can book for you your theory tests :) call us if you would like any more help!
I filled the forms following this video. 3 weeks later, they returned my license. It's the same license. They just issued a new one without the EU logo. No provisional entitlement was added. D4 and D2 not returned.

Do you have to put a x in the first provisional entitlement and fill the categories wanted or additional provisional entitlement etc
This would be First entitlement. The main thing is to tick the Lorry or bus categories. So if you did tick additional I don’t think this would be a problem.
I need to renew my D and D1 licence, but I want to apply for an hgv provisional at the same time.

Yes, you will need to send your driving license. This is your proof of who you are. 👍

Good morning Alex, thank you so much for your question. Yes, that's correct, you will send your driving license with the D2 and D4 forms fully filled out. I would absolutely tick all the entitlements, even though you may not be thinking about driving a truck or a lorry. You never know what might happen in the future so take all the categories (D1, D, C1, C & C+E) it doesn't cost any more money to do this, and you never know what might happen. I hope this helps. This might seem like a strange question, but how do I check if I have a LGV provisional? 2 years ago I sent off for it filling out all forms and sending my photo card. Long story short, i never got it back and the DVLA lost my card so I had to claim it was lost to get a new card, I never did find out if they actually processed my application.

How long does the provisional/medical last for? What if I decide not to take the test for 5 or even 10 years after getting the provisional?
Provisional lasts until medically you have to renew. So many years depending on age! Medical is 4 months.
Im looking to send my application off. Is it worth sending now or should i wait til November in hope of getting the class 1 added on it aswell? Then i can go straight for class 1
Best thing to do is send it now it's gonna take some time for the processes to be sorted out and for the training schools like ourselves to work out how the process will go. To go from car to C+E, 16.5 meter and and 44 tons from a car does not have road safety at the top of the list. Therefore our process map will need to reflect this and this still will be a category C element to the training.
@@NationalDrivingCentre thanks I don't plan to go straight into class1 just thought might aswell pass class 1 straight away as it will work out cheaper ? Rather than doing class2 then 1. Then I plan to work in class 2 for 6 months then see how I feel and hopefully jump into class1

A great question if it's on the D4 don't worry about it the doctor will complete the D4 if you haven't passed that category yet then just leave that blank.

Sorry so you say you have the provisional for C and C1But hav you Passed? If you have passed the test for the C1, then you would gain the provisional for C1+E. if you have passed the test for the category C then this should be the same case. The best thing to do is go online and do a license check yourself on the government website to see if you have the entitlement if not then the medical should still be live.

What about section 5 and photo, are you saying that we don’t have to send any identity document, since I already have my car license, as well as the Photo.
That's correct because you already have a current UK driving license you do not need to prove your identity again. 👍👍👍
Hi mate quick question. My license is expired and I want to surrender my bus and lorry entitlement but at the same time renew my license as a standard license( ie just for cars etc). Do I just have to fill in the d2 application and cross the surrender part in section 1 to also get the standard renewal?
Yes you can surrender the higher entitlements on the D2. Normally DVLA will send you a renewal form within a few months of your expiry. This normally includes a D1 for renewal of the category B. 👍👍

Hi Riya, the D4 form covers lots of different applications. Since you haven't driven anything like a bus or lorry before, you don't need to fill that in 😃

Sending your licence with the application forms should be all that the DVLA require.

Thank you so much for your comments👍👍 so the next step would be completing a D2 form, in section 1 category e I want to exchange my license after passing my test just enter the category you pass in that slot and then you will send off your blue certificate, your driving license and the D2 form to the DVSA. Hello, I am in the process of renewing my hgv licence with d2/d4 forms. I also need a photo update since it's been 10 yrs, so I attached one in the application. I understand there is a fee of £17 for a photo update. Can I send the postal order of £17 and d2/d4 completed apps in the same envelope or the postal order has to be sent separately to a different postcode ? Also what if I don't send back my old licence, it still has 2 months on it and I need it cos my employer do random checks if I have it on me - company policy. Thank you for a great video!!!
You will definitely need to send your driving license for your application for the provisional, this will be your proof of identification. With regards to the photo there will be a information on the back of the D2 with regards to payment. It could be easier if you use your photo from your passport this is all on the application form for renewal of your photocard, this makes it much easier and you don't have to sending any photos. 👍

No this should not have any affect on the application.

Yes, standard procedure. The D2 forms cover everything. Including renewing the licence 😃

"Sometime in 2021" is what gov.uk's advice currently states, yes, but as yet there is no date.

I just received back my driving licence after sending the forms off for my bus provisional. The only thing that is different on my license is the start and expiry date, with no additional prints next to D or D1. Does this mean my provisional will come separately or something went wrong?
The provisional part of the licence is all online now. If you pop on the government web site on check my driving licence you will be able to see all the provisional part if the licence.

For adding an entitlement for provisional there is no fee for certain other tasks there is a fee so you would need to add a postal order or check. But if you're just adding a provisional no need to worry about this.👍👍👍👍

Hi, I did all the forms and I also did medical , I sent them off with my license, 2 weeks later received the license back just with a UK logo top left corner , I checked the card on the back and it just has the car entitlement on there which left me confused? So when you check online Anthony you scroll down from vehicles you can drive and then it will say provisional entitlement to hold you are looking for a provisional for category C. Because there is no paper counterpart to your license anymore your driving license card only shows what you can drive and not the professionals. If the category C is not in the provisional section contact the DVLA to find out what happened.👍
I want to apply for c+e (44 ton artic) but there’s only C, C1 and C1+e available, what should I tick? Cos I believe C1+e is just a 7.5t with a trailer
That's absolutely correct George once you've got your category C entitlement you can then email the DVLA and they will give you a reference to then give you the C+E entitlement.👍

Hi Daniel, if they say use a D2, use a D2 👍🏼 the section for changing the photocard is on the inside cover of the D2

I got a D2 and D4 form from the post office. I'm 55 and renewing a class 2 licence I've had for 25yrs. I sent the D4 off, but was I supposed to also fill in the D2?
You should be absolutely fine with before, if you're just renewing for Age. The D2 is mainly for adding entitlements, change of address and other. 👍👍👍
@@NationalDrivingCentre Thanks for replying. I'm 55 and an idiot. I had delays 5yrs ago, so wanted to get ahead of the game and apply early this time. I went to the post office, asked for a D4. They gave me a D4 and D2 in the same envelope. Reading through the D2, it appeared to be for provisional purposes only, so I didn't fill it in, thinking I only needed to pass the medical.
I had my medical, sent it off (foolishly not by recorded delivery) and have heard nothing for 5wks. I panicked and arranged another medical and went to the post office for another D4. Again, I got the same D4 and D2 set, then went home. On arrival, I found a letter from the DVLA. I hoped it was my new licence. Unfortunately not. It was their official reminder, with a D4 and a D47P inside.
I rang the DVLA on Monday and was told that I have to fill both in. There's also no record of anything arriving, so I don't know if they got it or not. Looks like my time will run out.
Hi, I am doing my cat c and e next month and I was issued my cat C provisional before 15th November 2021. I have emailed the dvla with the additional entitlement and have received the short form email, but since then my home address has chanced since the Cat C provisional was entitled to me, my course is in a couple of weeks so I don’t really have time to send of my license again. Will they look at this?

This should not be a problem. If you pop on the website you should be able to update your address details on there. However they will issue a new driving license with a new issue number. This all depends if you still have access to your old address because the problem you have is, if you pass, your license will be sent to the old address as opposed to your new address.
When you start the test Examiner will stay. Is this still your home address on your license it's at that point you could declare that you have changed addresses and once you've passed you will update the DVLA details. Sorry I know this sounds a bit confusing. I hope this helps 👍👍
@@NationalDrivingCentre thanks for the reply, I’ve changed my address already and have my license with my current address. On the short form it says if your circumstances has changed since your provisional was given to you, your entitlement can’t be granted through the short form. I called the DVLA up today and they said it should be fine, it’s more of the case if your medical circumastances has changed recently. So yeah should be all good to go, only a couple of weeks left now 👍👍

Hi Serjiu, send both completed forms and your licence to the DVLA. They then destroy the one you send and generate a new one 😃

Yes so you will complete the D2 and your doctor will complete the D4 send this off to get the entitlement.👍

That's absolutely correct. However, when you look online, you will see you have the provisional entitlements you applied for. 👍

Something that confusing me I was born in Germany but on my driving licence it says born in the United Kingdom (I am British) I put Germany as country I was born in on the provisional I assume it doesn’t matter too much ?
