The visual style and sound design of Rime at ground floor is reminiscent of Spire, Sirrus' Prison Age in 'Myst 4: Revelation'.
It is also worth noting that Atrus' Crystal Viewer makes a (non-essential) appearance in Myst 4 as a means of visualizing Tomahna and the two Prison Ages
Sorry, I'm going to be a pain in the butt here. ^_^
That blue you're seeing is Blue Violet. That's the RGB additive color scale that he's using to create the lights in the sky, which makes sense since additive = light based. When you look at the colors on that scale it goes red orange, green blue, blue violet. So in a sense you're correct on both.
Certainly makes for some pretty arctic lights though!
And as always, loving the videos!
This color-crystal technology is also used in Myst 4: Revelation. But it is a little different.
"..because Ghen is an egotistical pyschopath.." LOL
so awesome! thanks for explaining all the backstory and everything!
Mmm that melting sound effect is awesome. I like the reflective effect on the floor there too.

Ooh la la. I didn't remember this lovely little bit.

Rocks are awesome. And yay for note reading. :) Coloring inside the lines is overrated.
"However, we're still not done yet!"
That makes you sound like a game show host. Too perfect. haha
I loved your sarcastic reaction after the electric show. XD
the starfisher was written in to riven by Cathrin so Atrus could escape but not leave his Myst book behind (the terminus of the starfisher is near the fisher were Atrus grew up on earth, i think it's in Arizona, anyway it's were the beginning of uru took place)
Unfortunately, we haven't been able to talk him into doing Riven. He said he would do Exile, though.
the dramatic music is actually an extended version of the game's trailer music, but in a different key.
in Myst 4 Atrus goes to Rime at the start of the game asking you to watch over his daughter you can find codes to look at the worlds you will be exploring in that game through the crystal viewer I have played part of Myst 4 its a really good game
@Aiva Indigo and violet share the same frequencies/wavelengths. However, I should agree that violet has dominance.
Color is simply what we can perceive visually from light, much like how we can only hear a certain range of sound frequencies. Otherwise, it's just ordinary, incoherent light. In a sense, color isn't a thing!
The most likely character you would see from that point would be "Cho", Gehn's gaurd chosen to patrol that area. (The one that steals your linking book at the beginning of Riven)
The rimé age is also in the playstation portable version of myst. The pap version is just like classic myst so you can only stay on your proper path that's given and not have free roam walk all over the place like realMyst
All that junk from Riven's collapse must still be falling through the star fissure.
Pretty much. But it does add a small piece to the storyline, as I explained in the video. Furthermore, there's some discussion around here indicating that the crystal viewer, as well as the Rime age itself, are tied somehow to Myst IV. I have no idea, since I've never played Myst IV.
I hope you do Riven~ I love your walkthroughs. They're funny and entertaining.
I wonder if Gehn really was still on Riven. This is close to the events in Riven (the game), so Gehn has probably already succeeded in creating his 233rd Age. He'd still be on Riven sometimes, but not all the time.
@Agent1W Yes and no. Really it's just a melding of the colors blending in to one another, if you want to get in to technicalities about light and color and how they all refract and act in the air. It's been several terms since color theory, though, so I can't remember all the specifics about how or why color does what it does.
no way, I think it's creepier that you're all by yourself!
True. But that was still a dead end at the time because he hadn't yet escaped to the places that matter. Perhaps I went too far in giving the abridged version though.
Because Riven is unstable and basically dying, the image in the linking panel in the book is very distorted. Playing Riven is well worth it, or you could just watch my Let's Play of that game. :-)
there's a crystal viewer (it might be the same one) in Myst IV
you should play it and do a LP vid series..that's be sooo awesome! but i know you're doing Exile next, and that one's my favorite ^_^
I should clarify that by "more cg" I meant less realistic and more cg-like.
that'd make an interesting fanfiction..Ghen in our world!
Lol I felt the same way about the music!
@Aiva But then again, indigo is after blue, before violet! In the rainbow pattern.
Nah, it's not something that needed to be in the video, it'd just confuse people who haven't played Riven. I just felt like mentioning it. :-)
those crystals are from Myst IV!!!
I was expecting a jacuzzi
Say, couldn't he just peak into the little picture seen in each book? Did he have to construct an elaborate device that does the sam thing? What am I missing here? I should play the other games. I've only played the first one.
What would happen if Ghen jumped into the star fissure? If the myst book ended up landing somewhere, maybe Ghen will get lucky too. He seems pretty desperate.
Is the star void a vacuum like outerspace?
An LP is probably the best way to go, seeing as I run mother Vista, and she doesn't want me to have fun. =(
Atrus's family is seriously messed up... Can Atrus himself really be trusted?
Is it just me or does Riven's geology remind anyone of another game with uber-visuals, Crysis? In fact that palm tree in the image IMO looks MORE CG than the ones in Crysis.
realRiven running on CryEngine 2/3 - FUND IT!
By scary I mean HORRIFYING. I mean, come on, FEAR is like the telletubbies compared to this.
This game would be scary if there were any NPCs at all.
@thetopcrusader2 or the beginning of myst
@shadyparadox PLEASE. PLAY IT. AND LET US WATCH.
Oh crap you've never played Myst IV. My previous comments might contain some spoilers D: I thought you were the same sort of fan I was and had played everything to exhaustion.
The only thing I don't understand about this post is why it's a pain in the butt.
Awesome! Any plans on playing riven? Forgive me if this is been asked before I’m new here LOL
I haven't decided. A lot of people have asked about it, so I'll be making an update video that goes into the details of what I've been thinking.
shadyparadox I’ll await further instructions, Just like everybody else these games bring me back to childhood. I thought I was the only one for the longest time!
guessing you will also be doing Ryven? (however it's spelled.)
Another good game is called Oddworld.
Eh, cause I was being a smart ass about color?
