Im on civic number 6. My first was a 93 sedan, 88 sedan, a 96 ex coupe that i drove for 9 years, and when i still owned the 96 i bought another 93 for a winter beater. Then came a 2018 civic si coupe in black which was a great car, drove it for a couple years then traded for my 2019 type R, car is awesome, i enjoy it. But not made for new england winters , so this year i parked her and got myself a winter beater.

regardless I never thought much about Hondas until I had my first commuter car in 2010. It was a Honda Civic is sedan and I put 280k miles on it. Raced it all the time on the public roads and it was still running strong when I sold it in 2021.

True, it *is* all about...banging gears. I'd jump at a manual electric - it would give me the feeling of DRIVING a car (a fact I love about manuals) instead of feeling like just another passenger (why all automatics must DIE), as well as be more eco-friendly.
Yes, a manual electric car for the enthusiast. Sounds like a recipe for a win.

7:45 That was a masterful launch, well done! I've owned a 2009 naturally aspirated Civic Si and I loved that car. The stratospheric revs that car could achieve made it feel special. I've been kind of down on the turbo charged Si because they lack that high revving ability, but this review demonstrates that the new Si hasn't lost its edge.

Just traded my 2012 k24 powered Si for the 22 Si. Dont discount the fun that actually having real torque brings! Plus my Ktuner can bump it to 240hp at 21psi. My k24 dynos around 175hp and 145 ft lbs at the wheels. This car actually makes the 200 and 192 at the wheels and is only 100lbs more.

    Great review as always!
And a Honda Civic history lesson.
Exhaust flow or rather, flow rate is a highly underrated and misunderstood topic. It is why sometimes going to a huge diameter exhaust actually decreases power. Exhaust gasses from a 4-stroke engine do absolutely not need any backpressure, but they do need a certain flow rate to scavenge and prefill the cylinders.
Calculating pipe diameter and length is something I know Honda has been invested in since the 70's in motorcycles, I'm sure they're using that knowledge on cars as well.

Every Civic must have better brakes and tires. I like it when you tense up while breaking hard. Great facial expressions! The undercarriage could use some more of the original hairy cardboard covers as you call them from the other lesser Civics trims. Honda and other auto manufacturers believe Aluminum and Plastic are going to save us. We'll have to replace more parts sooner than later. May as well buy another car of the same and garage it for 3 years, resell the 1st after 3 years of use and take its doppelganger out for the next 3 years. Hey! when did you get that new car? Cheaper to sell off the 3-year-old car than to replace all the cheap quality expensive parts. We're the throw-away society/ generation because repairing a car is more expensive than buying a new one. Honda has gone into making Civic Hatchbacks the new version of the Ford Pinto or AMC Pacer.

I think they need to create some new terms for 'dual exhaust'. I don't consider a single pipe from the engine that spits in two only at the end to be a dual exhaust. That's no different than just punching two holes in the muffler like some other cars and calling it dual or quad. It should be distinguished as "true dual" or "quasi dual" or some other term similar to 'quasi dual'. half dual? semi dual? simulated dual?

Nice little history lesson on one of the longer lived names in the US. I think Honda will do one more gas-powered generation, though maybe just the Si and Type R; possibly the next regular Civic will be plug-in hybrid and/or EV. As for EVs with stick shifts, I read that Toyota is patenting a manual gearbox for electric cars that could also be left in one gear for more typical EV use. Seeing as how I bought a stick shift Crosstrek, obviously you're preaching to the choir about the benefits of a real gearbox, but really it's not that much of a stretch to imagine there's a market for shift-it-yourself EVs considering it's already the case that if you want maximum efficiency you should go for an automatic. And dual-clutch autos even perform better. But for me, there's just no comparison in driving enjoyment.

That would make for an awesome engine in something like a Ridgeline, and with cylinder deactivation it could cruise down the highway as a four cylinder for better fuel economy than the current V6.

If there are any gripes as an owner I would have..
    1. Apple Car Play is laggy AF with inputs. Solid one to two second delay. Seems like it needs an update on software on Honda side
    2. The back up camera is absolutely trash. Especially at night.
Of course Honda sand bagged power and torque on this. With the Integra coming out, they have to leave the big numbers for that.
Which leads me to ask, have you ever done a review on a DC 2 Integra Type R???

I'm old so I remember all those generations of Civics. They were everywhere in California, sold like hotcakes because they came in from Japan to our ports. Now I have a 2020 Civic 6 speed and I love it. I think Honda will continue with gas powered Civics in the future but offer an option of a fast electric model... maybe a Civic Type E

Thanks for the background history on the Civic, I remember when the first ones
came into the country in 1973, they really were under power compared to our powerful gas guzzler cars however they proved their worth as the gas embargo happened in 1973 as well and still today…😎

I wonder what it is about these Civics that causes so much road noise transfer into the cabin
