In the mid 2000s, my now adult child used to wear dresses to middle school. I actually had one of his teachers call me to tell me that my child was gay! So I asked her if she had something against gay people, to which she said no. Then I asked her if it was against school policy for boys to wear dresses and she said no. So then I asked her why she was interrupting my day with her stupidity! And then I had my child removed from her class because what if he was gay and wasn't ready to tell me or what if I was intolerant and she put him in danger? I'm with Sophia, clothes don't have a gender.

I just prefer a younger child to have the heads up. If after telling them how people will most likely react then sure. My teen wore a dress to LARPs and I helped him pick out a nice one. So it isn't that I care if they decide that is what they want. I just do not want them to be unprepared, I certainly would inform a younger child who may not be aware that ridicule is a possibility. It is no different than I would handle anything else. Information is key.

I’m sorry but as a parent, you have to reinforce boundaries if you were being told over and over and over to not do something there are consequences. I think this Dad is perfectly justified in letting his daughter face her consequences full blast. What if when she gets older she starts stealing other things and that will lead to her being in jail. This father created a situation where her daughter will never in her life repeat the same stupid mistake ever again without there being dire consequences to her well being. So good on the father!!!

My now 7 year old nephew was OBSESSED with Frozen and Princess Anna when he was 2-4. He had a Princess Anna Frozen dress and wore it literally everywhere. His parents didn’t push it on him, they didn’t push gender stereotypes or push him to think he was gay because he liked Frozen and wearing that dress. He was just playing dress up like his little sister. Now he is a 7 year old who is literally ALL BOY!
This is how it should be. Parents need to stop pushing one way or the other. Just let your kids live, and guide YOU in what they like. Don’t tell them they’re “gay” because they’re a little boy who likes Disney Princesses. Ti them it’s just a show.

It costs about 12 bucks, screws to the wall from the inside (so no taking the screws out) and locks with a key. They'd have to bust it apart to change the temp.

Whereas self-flagellation is a term to describe inflicting pain on oneself as a form of penance. As his drive to sabotage himself is driven by guilt rather then pleasure it makes more sense to me. As a former K-12 teacher, I've had lots of students behave like the little girl taking the worms. Dad is not the AH. Being warned multiple times and given various chances to do other tasks instead, and she's still knowingly doing something that she knows she should not do? Dad was right to let her see the consequences of not listening as well as taking something that is not yours. Would have been good to teach her about the worms as soon as she showed interest in them. But still, not the AH.

Those small bad behaviors will quickly turn into larger, more serious, bad behaviors of not corrected early. She may say that she is mad now but that is only because her shenanigans came back to bite her and daddy made her face the consequences instead of coming to her rescue. She made her bed and he made her lay in it, and I guarantee that she will never steal anything from her father again.

So when I was little I begged my mom to let me wear a GIANT bow on my head. This was way before Lady Gaga or Jojo Siwa so big bows weren't common at school.
My Mom told me I couldn't wear it but I pleaded with her because I thought it was so beautiful and she eventually relented. She said I could wear the bow but warned me that the other kids at school would most definitely bully me and say mean things. She asked me if that was something I could handle and of course I said yes cuz omg that bow is so pretty haha.
A few kids did try to start shit but I just didn't care because I loved the bow and no one could convince me otherwise. Eventually they gave up and the rest of the class decided that I was right, that the bow was awesome haha.
Anyway, O.P. is not the AH for letting his son wear the dress. Maybe he could have prepared his son for the bullying like how my Mom did, but really the teachers should have put a stop to the bullying. The school system is the AH in this story.

I totally get why OP would move away. Its the THUNDERBOLT. Sounds like he's experiencing that very, very rare electrical and spiritual reaction to someone. Like soul mate energy. For anyone that thinks "just get over your feelings, suck it up, don't be a simp" etc., you obviously haven't been in that situation. I totally get it. Humans are capable of falling in love many times, but the thunderbolt happens only once. There are some people you might rarely meet in life that give you such a strong feeling from the first second of meeting that you almost can't contain it. And for him to feel that with one of his friends, his BFs girlfriend.......THAT would be the torture and the masochism. Staying to endure that is self inflicted pain. There may or may not be actual soul mates in the world. That's up to you to decide if you believe in that. BUT the thunderbolt is real. The love at first sight is real. The intense, inner butterflies, electricity so strong it almost compels you to blurt out to that person how you feel.......its so real. I experienced this in high school. It wasn't normal teenager hormone stuff. This was stuff of legend. This was like The Notebook. Like you knew you may get married super young, but you'd be that old couple that celebrates their 70th anniversary. He was my first real true love. And he died later on in my junior year. And although I love my husband of 18 years, and we have grown kids, and I'm 44 now. I think about it all the time. It only happens once. Seriously. It was like something out of a movie. A literal script "their eyes meet across the room and sparks fly as she walks past him. She feels the floor go wonky under her feet, as she locks eyes with him. An out of body experience just a moment away. I know, puke right🤮😂But it's the truth. I feel so bad for OP. The one that got away sux. My advice for everyone........don't let the ONE get away. If you can help it and if you can do it without hurting people. He's right to move. He sounds like a good man with morals. And side note, WOMEN ALWAYS KNOW. It's the not being able to hold eye contact. We see straight into that wet eyed, enlarged pupil and we KNOW. So, she knows. She knows. We intuit. She feels it. Hearts literally send out electrical pulses up to 6 feet. She knows. And I really hope this isn't a case where when they both met her, and she actually did like him, but ended up falling for the friend becasue this guy didn't speak up. You gotta shoot your shot.

For the story about open marriage: My boyfriend and I are in plain terms in an open relationship, but we have chosen to make it our own. Before I sleep with someone else, the have to be my friend, because I don’t want a casual one night stand. It is a connection and they have to meet my boyfriend. The same goes for him. For the most part everything is great. I don’t have any other connections or relationships than my boyfriend right now but I also have not been looking, I feel like people assume that with an open relationship everyone is just seeking out someone else, we really aren’t, it just gives us the space we want to connect with people on a different level if we choose to.

OP had every right to sue her sister when her sister refused to fix the poster or pay the appraisal costs. And sister literally wouldnt have done anything to make it right until it went to court.

For the elf on the shelf story.
The idea of the elf on the shelf being mischievous could’ve worked. But the pranks needed to be harmless. The younger the child, the more harmless and soft you need to make the mischief.
Maybe have “Bob” hide one of their toys under the bed or something.
But what the father did in this situation goes too far, considering the ages of the children involved.

To the question at 44 minutes-my son saw me wear nail polish every day. He saw me do my nails multiple times a week. He wanted me to do his nails. I told him that I Dont have a problem with it, but others may. And if they do, he could get teased or treated differently. So if he wants, I can do his toes his favorite color (we stuck to blues greens and black) for now. He decided he wanted to do his toes, a couple weeks later he wanted his fingers….he did not get teased, he managed to start a whole dang trend in his class! Some parents thought it was cute, some, dads in particular, didn't like it. But I let him know those were the colors rock stars wear so he went to school and apparently acted like a rock start. It was awesome. Very wholesome. I think it's the deliver-not just saying “people won't likebit” but giving examples of how to do it in a way others will accept.

There was a lady with the same uniform (except for a small embroidered logo that my dumb ass cpuldnt see) and i asked her where the nail glue was. When she told me that she didnt work there, i was too embarrassed to keep shopping. Spent 2 weeks with a cracked nail because i felt stupid. My sister had a male classmate in 8th grade who were skirts basically every day and I think the only reason she remembered it so vividly was because it was unusual. But if I had a son and he wanted to wear a dress or skirt, my first question would be “do you have one to wear?” (Like if he’s little none of my skirts and dresses would fit so he couldn’t wear them) and then if he didn’t, I’d offer to take him shopping for one after school

On the co-sleeping situation, I had a friend... she was my best friend from kindergarten until adulthood with gaps of time missing due to college, me moving out of state.... unfortunately, she came across some bad times and my partner and I decided to let her and her daughter come stay with us. No one, not one mutual friend or any of her family members felt the need to notify me of her drinking. (Her dad was an alcoholic and unfortunately was hit by another drunk driver and died when she was young) she had a 2nd daughter shortly after I had my first and unfortunately when the baby was a couple months old she passed due to her falling asleep while breast feeding her. (I had found out she was drinking even then) mind you, this was the night before her birthday and as an alcoholic, she didn't need a reason to celebrate to get drunk. She woke up her birthday morning to her baby being dead.... that only made her drinking worse.
What makes me more is that since no one let me know what to expect, our friendship ended due to her drinking. I was taking care of her kid, my kids, all by myself while having to clean after a drunk, dealing with lies and disrespectful behavior and the fact that she never showered and completely ruined the room she stayed in.
I know alcohol has a big play on this, but it's also why I never, ever, co slept with my kids. With or without being inebriated, it's way too really to roll over on a small child.

My best old person story from work wasn’t even my job. Apparently I “look like I work at Home Depot”
So I’m renovating a house, got a fixer upper that has been a nightmare to update but I’m doing it all myself and loving every accomplishment.
So I am at Home Depot… a lot.
A few weeks ago I was there getting a lot of wood for a build and this elderly couple goes “excuse me little miss do you know where we can find the door hardware?” I tell them and point, they ask if I can show them, I worked in Senior care for a long time so I didn’t hesitate to set my cart filled with wood aside and show them.
They then asked if I could put an order in for them. I told them I can’t I don’t work there.
They literally argued yelling at me and demanded another employee get the manager to get me fired for refusing to do my job. Everyone knows me there at this point (partially because I usually bring my husky they love) so I had to wait for the manager because the couple was following me so they can point me out to management.
So I’m loading more wood onto the cart while they’re waiting talking about how horribly lazy this generation is when Chris the store manager comes up asking if they needed help where they then gave him the story but the bad employee. Aka - me.
He also explained to them that I don’t work there and they yelled at him that they should not allow people to “dress like workers” in the store and threatened to call corporate.
Chris told them if that would make them feel better he would give them the number. They then shifted tones to “well… really we just needed help with a tile order.”
So I get accosted for looking like I work there, manager gets screamed at for allowing people to dress like employees, and what was I wearing?
Gray plaid baggy pajama pants and a deep gray green hoodie, with 6 inch combat boots.
I was in my literal pajamas with “I don’t want to ask for help to reach the top shelf” boots.
“IT’S YOUR FAULT FOR LOOKING LIKE AN EMPLOYEE”
    😩🤌

Man that kid story was f’d up, ngl I think you need to have an almost unconscious fear of crushing something, even growing up I used to take care of kittens like all the time, my cat just kept getting out, would come back prego, and then would have a batch of kittens, and my parents like never let me sleep with them which is fair lol, but as I got to like 11-12 I’d sleep in my basement after hanging out there as teens do the little troglodytes, but I’d have like 5 kittens and the mama cat all sleeping with me on a couch like in the middle of the wall my legs and I’d just wake up and all the kittens would be fine, like a love/fear so strong that even an unconscious teen could refuse to move even while asleep, that’s what I think anyways, almost like waking up before you’re alarm goes off before school/work even though you only slept a few hours almost like you’re brains just like “Ayo Mr. White wakey wakey meth lets bakey” anyways lol that’s just one long huge word vomit of a message.

With the window unit and the covers it's just too much for me and I'm way too cold 76 keeps a nice balance to where the air doesn't turn on all the time but it keeps up with the window unit and we have proper circulation. It sounds hot but it's not, it's a lot closer to 73-72 which is pretty normal
