Jet Engine, How it Works?

  • In this video jet engine is briefly discussed that how does it work.
At the simplest level the way a jet engine works can be reduced to just four steps: suck, squeeze, bang, and blow.
    1. Intake (Suck) - Air is smoothed and introduced in a controlled manner
    2. Compression (Squeeze) - The Air is compressed which increases the heat and pressure.
    3. Combustion (Bang) - The compressed air is mixed with atomized fuel which causes the mixture to burn
    4. Exhaust (Blow) - Kinetic energy from the high energy exhaust gases push past the turbine blades which converts the kinetic energy into torque and transmitted through the internal shaft to the fan blades in the compressor in order to repeat the cycle, then the gases are purged.

A good, very basic explanation of how a jet engine works. But a fun fact for anyone who stumbles across my comment; turbines don't actually convert kinetic energy into torque. Turbines actually convert thermal energy into kinetic energy, via the reaction force generated by the exhaust gases when exiting the turbine.
This is even poorly understood by many engineers. Many engineers assume the pressure is responsible for driving the turbines, however it is the temperature differential through expansion between the turbine inlet and turbine outlet that is actually the driving force. The higher the temperature differential, the more powerful the turbine, which is why jet engines turbine temperatures have been increasing since the jet engine was invented, to increase the power (and efficiency) of the cycle.

You use “turbofan” engine to explain “turbojet”. Should put some caption to prevent misunderstanding from person who doesn’t know.

Great , But you didn't mention first how to start turbine when it is off and about the starter power

If they all rotate so same direction, the rotational forces could easily break the engine. Counter-rotations balance it out.

Да ли може "jet engine" да ради у вакуму?🇷🇸

    • @KnowHowSci
      @KnowHowSci  Год назад

a rocket can travel in the vacuum of space void of air, but a jet engine could not. A jet plane has a ceiling limit above which it cannot fly because there is not enough air. The jet engine must be able to ’breathe’ in order to function. Rocket fuel is considerably more efficient than jet fuel and rockets usually are more powerful. However, the rocket generally is heavier because it must carry all of its oxidizer with it.

it's pseudoscience man. You just showing a) turbo jet engine; b) it's actually a turbofan engine. And you said nothing about that. And just talking about gas turbine mostly.

A video on Turbofan Engine is in the link Below. This video is just showing that how a gas turbine or jet engine works.

He’s explaining exactly how a jet works, why are you nitpicking over him not mentioning the word “Turbofan” ??
We all know it’s a turbofan.
