My engine went bang last night. Need to get it out and a new one in this weekend, thanks for a super informative video with no useless filler content!
o damn, i hope you find this video useful, no useless filler to be found on this channel 😉
@Project380 new engine is in and she runs!
Just a few teething problems I'm yet to overcome haha
Curious. I've seen most people say that it is easier to pull the engine with the transmission. Why didn't you pull that as well?
ive pulled so many of these engines, in my opinion its easier to disconnect the gear box from engine.
pulling the gear box means you have to drain the gearbox, fight with the PPF bolts, take your centre console out, redo everything and then align your PPF again
Is it a must to get the starter motor out? It’s a pita on a LH car, can’t reach the bolts
im not sure about the left hand drive one as you have got a steering shaft in the way, the bolts are not easy to get to anyways
So glad this video is posted. I have to pull an N/A 1.6 engine to fix a leaking oil pump. I pulled it years ago leaving the gearbox in the car, but was wanting to watch a refresher video. Yours is the only one I found that doesn't remove the transmission. I'd also forgot that to pull the oil pan off I need to pull the press.plate/clutch/flywheel off. That darn oil pump uses a small thin paper gasket between it and the engine block. If it starts to leak an engine pull is mandatory to repair it. Anytime a Miata engine comes out for rebuild, that gasket should be replaced.
I find it the easier way to do it
Very useful video, we're about to pull one out of a MK2. Haven't catch up on all yet but love the build so far. Level of details in engine look, bay ect... Very nice work :)
thank you and good luck with the engine removal. why are you pulling the engine out ?
do i need to drain transmission fluid before removing bolts that connected to engine?
Nope as long as you keep the prop shaft in
Great vid just about to do this to my mk1 so doing a bit of research but a have 1 question.... are you from norfolk?
close to Norfolk , the accent gives it away 😏
Appreciate the help Project 380! I gotta pull out two 1999 Mazda Miata engines. It's astounding how easy it is to pull the engine in these cars.
Glad ive helped you out 😊
Your video has been a God send while removing my miata engine removal..are you on Instagram bro?

Thank you mate good guide, nice n simple 👌 i shall sub 😎
Thanks for the sub!
Hey bro what size bolts are you using for the engine stand?
i really cant remember but i thing g19 do a bolt kit
@@Project380 appreciate it brother
Thanks, the only video about removing the engine without gearbox. Is it easy to install the engine back with gearbox in place?
Its all down to personal preference. i prefer to do it this way but i find it just as easy. if the standard coil packs are being used i take them off before removing the engine and put them on last when installing as you can smash them on the bulk head. to remove the engine and gear box together you need more room and more head height which i never have.
@@Project380 brother, what tool did you use to get to the top gearbox bolts?
@@Austiiizy Just an extra long ratchet spanner, easy with coil pack out the way
I have a forged 1.8 nb engine for sale that’ll handle 380 🤷♂️
where is the fun of putting someone elses engine in? built no bought :)
Most helpful video I’ve found so far thanks for not filling your video with unrelated content
Glad it was helpful! i always try and be straight to the point
