    You keep asking so I made it. How I pull a Miata engine. This is as easy as I can make it. They are not very hard unless you make it harder as you can see by the video. If these high school kids can pull one in a few hours you definitely can do it.

    Yes! "in case we want to rebuild it". Yes, a transmission rebuild ;) Thanks for the video. I can't speak for all, but I think many would be okay with a multiple episode series on a transmission rebuild.

    Great job. Maybe this would be a good time to discuss personal safety when working on a vehicle. Before I open the hood, I put my long hair tied up in a bun out of the way. If I'm wearing a Hoodia, I tie the hood strings into a bow. If I'm wearing rings or a bracelet, I take them off and put them in a pocket. I make sure that there is nothing loose or hanging on my person that could get snagged on moving parts
    With me, i always do this even if the engine is not running. I see that the engine is not running. I feel that iys a good idea to get in the habit of being safe to prevent accidents

    Its a bit faster to not remove the ppf from the differential side, i just loosen the transmission side bolts and Im able to pry it off and lift it out with the cherrypicker

    Good stuff Al. I know you don't toot your own horn, but speaking of SCCA school, how many cars do you have rented? For anyone watching this the San Francisco Region SCCA school is a great way to learn to road race. Even if you plan on building or buying your own race car it's less stressful to rent a car for the school unless you have a crew to help. The school is only once a year in February and Al sells out early, plan ahead.

    @5:39 the exhaust almost hit him in the eyes, they should really be wearing safety glasses. When I worked on cars I got tired of things falling in my eyes when underneath like that or getting brake clean bounce off something and get right in my eye a few times. I got in the habit of wearing safety glasses almost all the time. A good habit for them to learn too.

    The PPF and the press nuts gave me a lot of anxiety. So much conflicting info on if your way is ok or if that ruins the whole PPF floating around the internet.
    I may have been misunderstanding the other vids / posts I read tho...
    One vid was saying if you remove those from the PPF you must buy a new PPF from Mazda?

    • @brians5088
      @brians5088 Год назад +2

      Nope, they are meant to press in tight so the PPF doesn't have play. You can't remove the PPF without pushing them out, they press through the PPF into the assembly and keep it from moving and elongating the hole.

    Hi Al, great video! What do you do if you cannot free the PPF bolts on the differential? When replacing the clutch, could not free the rear bolts, but was able to lower the trans. Could not get it back in with the PPF so we pulled the engine. Will I be able to ease that trans into the frame rail without removing the PPF differential bolts?

    Hey Al, Great video. I see what you mean on the difficulty to reassembly the wiring loom brackets to the RHS side of the trans. Do you cable tie the loom or leave it hang? Is there a diagram that shows how the brackets should go?

    • @aracing
      @aracing  Год назад

      I just zip tie the loom back onto the bracket, hope that helps!

    If I have a sloped driveway and can't safely pull the transmission from underneath, is this the best/only way to DIY a clutch job? Do you have to evacuate the AC refrigerant? Thanks?

    Hi Al just for my knowledge. Why taking the engine and tranny out and not just the engine?

    • @scoopsmartin57
      @scoopsmartin57 Год назад +3

      It's easier to mate/unmate the transmission and the engine when it's not attached to the car.

    • @miatafan
      @miatafan Год назад +1

      the trans is really light but its still a handful to install or remove from underneath.
      taking both out at the same time also helps get the engine at a better angle to come out of the engine bay
