The tarantula is awesome. Got one for my daughter. I put 5mm axles in it front and rear. And also put 9mm hex extenders on front and rear. Makes it nice and wide for stability. And I use a rubber band for the battery hold down. Still working on other mods.
I love seeing all your builds of different setups from different brands. Wow I'm really impressed by my custom Peterbilt wrecker towtruck crawler, I always see people's incline test and giggle while i go up 72° verticals. Sick build as always!
It is fantastic to see new products from awesome companies daily. The cross weight on your corner scale can be fined tuned by adjusting the left rear preload collar to gain an L/R bias of 50/50. Nice work!
Been thinking about this build a lot prior to this video. "I bet I could build a better non Traxxas trx4m". Almost felt as if it were a challenge. This video cements that thought. Throw in a furitec system and pretty much not a single part would be Traxxas. Great vid man.
I put mine together tonight and it weighs in at 646g. 😮 It's a great looking rig. It's surprising to me that even with the electronics layout it's still not to heavy in the rear end. Stock shocks suck on it and do rub, even with some spacers. I guess I'll be picking up some shocks soon. I'll be hitting the rocks soon for some testing. The material that the cage is made of is very soft so I'll possibly be gluing the screws unless someone can tell me why i shouldn't. Also, mine came with spacers for the hood.
Cool rig , looks like a lot of fun to drive 👍, I would do the same , leave battery in for good, charge it in rig. As far as good goes, run it without the hood, who cares. Very capable and I’m guessing the point is to reduce weight of hardbody it comes with. Most people that have these have already upgraded the hell out of them , so this is a nice way to save weight up top, allow more articulation, Great video !!!
Looking into the Tarantula build. Would you be changing out certain parts on this build with more recent upgrades such as the Injora diamond axles? Would be cool if you did an update with the lates/greatest parts for this build.
I think it's a great kit. Got mine on order already. Going with the blue. Would leave the battery in to charge. You obviously never seen one start on fire from charging.
I hope to see an extended link kit soon. With 10 mm extended hubs and maybe 1” or 2” length extension to the chassis links, I am positve it would be awesome.
They are top-notch so the quality of them just they're very strong very strong to take the beating I gave them trx4 m has some of the best axle shaft I have seen now there are some great ones for straight axles like from mofo he has some amazing straight axle shafts for like axial scx24 but the way the trx4 M the shafts are made and the cvd gives it an amazing steering angle and really good strength I haven't seen nothing on any of the other ones that can turn like that not get bound up and still not break
An interesting project would be to use the stock frame with a light buggy body and different or no bumpers. How much more performance does the tarantula frame give you, if any.
Great content! Do you think the lay down servo setup will fit without any trimming? If so, It seems like that would be the way to go to get the weight lower and to stop it from hitting the hood
Nice, but many of us can't justify or afford all the mods. We would like to see how it performs with a stock swap from the trx4m. And /or just a set of injora brass wheels to lower the weight.
I do fancy a mini crawler and this looks very capable. With so many parts replaced from the original kit it has me thinking is it even worth buying the kit? Be good to understand what would be required to make a custom build from scratch.
When I priced this out to build from scratch it was ~$300 without the radio/esc. Could certainly do that cheaper using stock axle housings, transmission cover, etc. I think you could get it done for ~$200 plus your electronics and have an excellent rig
Sweet video! You've inspired me, but I have a question about a change I'd like to make on my build. I would like to put a Furitek motor and ESC into my Tarantula build. What Furitek set up would you recommend? Note: I am also going to be using those awesome (cheat code) DJ Crawler 72mm tires as well. Thanks again!
Man that chassis looks good! Thinking of building one with all aftermarket components. Do u think there’s room above the rear axle for a servo? (front treal portal axle) Wanting to go 4ws. Maybe removing included esc plate and mounting furitek esc and rx inside the body on the doors?
If you went with a horizontal servo setup like the Meus racing setup you could fit. The vertical servo on the back would be a hard fit without some trimming
I've always wondered why TRAXXIS hasnt come out with a compete vehicle for the CAPRA line up? injora makes enough parts to build a complete kit without even buying a stsrter vehicle👍

After watching this was real excited to be able to order some different color panels for trantula or the clear. I thought forsure since u had got those in packaging w/injora tab like all there parts they were selling these. I was disappointed to not find them anywhere on their site I even clicked on the trantula chassis to see if they might be under it to buy. Nope. So did they just send those to u? Are they gonna sell the panels and some point? What's up with that?! Lol Great video by the way. Loving ur building and set up videos.
Awesome build! Can you build a similar meus ripper chassis and compare them? I’m torn between the two. Also, how do you adjust your endpoints on the TRX4m?
Thinking about building one of these frames from scratch...ie: no trx4m kit as a starting point. and want to go brushless (furitek) . Do you have any recommendations...like will I need a special skid or any other pitfalls ? If you find time to answer this...Thanks in Advance..👍🏼
Furitek just released the micro komodo with stellar trans for the TRX4M. That would be a great option and will work with the stock skid or an aftermarket one.
Hey Adam, I absolutely think your videos are the best I've seen, Your builds are so capable, Our scx24 bronco was so tippy until i did a few of the mods you've recommended, sooooo helped, I really appreciate all the technical info you explain, It helps me so much fixing my scx24's so my kids crawlers keep alive haha...I always scroll threw your videos before i have to fix one of the trucks so i get an idea of what to do haha 😵💫 I just recently went full injora Hoooon on my sons scx24 gladiator, Links-axles-motor and trans, wheels etc...but now the truck dosent move lol, Maybe its the esc? It wont roll backwards either when turned off, ow boy...do you have a video on how to diagnose what issues could be going on? or what to look for? I cant afford to take it into the rc shop again 😅 I scroll threw youtube sometimes looking for a video on how to diagnose scx24 common issues, but dont see any, maybe that video would be a total hit! just a thought, Anyways keep up the stellar work man!
Thank you! My first thought was that something is bound up too tight. Wheel nuts, transmission spur gear, or steering knuckles are the most common causes. I would suggest going through those and making sure they're properly situated. You may also want to test the esc on another truck if you've got one. That could be a good first test. Then if the electronics are good, work your way back through the build.
I think this video was made before the High Trail came out. Would the High Trail links work with this rig? It seems like those would give a bit of extra clearance due to their longer length. I assume if they would work, it would also require High Trail driveshafts?
Yes you are right. The hightrail links would work and they would make a huge difference. I haven't tried the conversion but I believe you will need the longer driveshaft to complete the kit, although the long-arm lift kit that traxxxas sells does not include the driveshaft, so maybe it's not necessary?
Great video. Just curious, what weight oil for the shocks, how many drips of oil? Ive got mine built using the silver springs in the front, black in the rear. Thanks again for the info and content!!!
I really like the way this looks more than the one they have for the SCX24, specifically the front not being so squished. Any idea if this will be available for that platform as well?

If you were going to do this on a weekly budget. How would you purchase the upgrades that you installed. I have a stock defender but I’m loooking for something more aggressive. Thanks for your response in advance.
Good question. I think I would do a similar approach like the TRX4M budget build. My approach would be something like this: 1) wheels and tires, crawler gears ($5 traxxas to start), bearing conversion 2) motor, servo upgrade 3) brass knuckles, castor blocks, diff cover (front), shocks 4) steel gears throughout, brass steering link, driveshaft upgrade
Great video! I just completed my build but I have one problem, the servo is hitting the front cross beam. It might be the high clearance links adjusted improperly. How many spacer if any did you use in the front links?

I think you should paint the clear panels with a color similar to brass. I think that would look sick!
I back this!
Agreed!
I agree. But maybe like a black and gold in a pattern similar an actual tarantula

+1 on needing better shocks. Running them more vertical seemed to help for now until I get some 59s.
Im running same tires....i just snipped the foams in 8 equal places with scissors and it gave the tires a lil more grip.
I just put together 2 of these kits, so far they seem nice. I accidentally used the shorter screws at first lol... Lesson learned.
Also those foams will probably break in after running awhile

I got this one and the ripper. I like the looks of the ripper but the tarantula seems to be a better performer.

Impressive....I have a set of the claws on the way looks like they need a foam cut and some break in time
I just purchased the Green tarantula, ready built chassis kit from a friend for $15, like new.

Agree

I didn't use any spacers in mine. I figured I would try it without them and add if needed. So far so good!
Excellent thank you for your response!

I think the lower portion of the flex extensions will work but not the uppers
when you make your videos, how do you eliminate the whine of the esc?
I'm thinking about doing a tarantula build, I have the trx4m High Trail. Do you think the links and drive shafts would be compatible or will they be too long?
The high trail is a better wheelbase for this kit. The extended rear helps with climbing and stability
Thx- what was the wheelbase measurement?
What's your wheelbase on this guy? Sweet rig
Same as stock, 162mm
What brass diff covers and C hubs? Great video.
Thanks! Injora brass on this one
Ive been battling with my scx24 with either keeping it the bronco build or turn it back into the injora nylon buggy kit

How much did it all come out at?
Without the radio/receiver, it would be ~$350

does this work for the high trail ? just ordered mine and realized the high trail is longer

Yes, it’s a real simple installation.
What was the approximate cost in USD?
Could I use high-trail drive shafts and four links from the C10 Chevy with this kit, or are they too long?

Bettle I think. It keeps the weight lower and has much more options for shock and linkage positions to tune your performance.
