Thanks for the great review Omar! Your personality pops! It made watching the review wonderful. I love my X100, and exactly as you said, I love it because of my tastes and preferences. I normally shoot with a Leica M9 (which is even more niche than the X100), so for me the X100 is a super compromise between some auto features, with the look and functions of a classic rangefinder. When I want to shoot video for my VLOG or want all auto features, I use my Canon G7x. Thanks for a great review!

I had a x100s and sold it because I wanted to be have the interchangeable lenses. I now have a x-t10 and I agree the 56mm 1.2 is by far my favorite lens by far that I have. That being said I'm looking at getting a x100 series camera again. Great video!

Very interesting commentary, sir. My own reason for passing on the X100 Series, is that Fuji hasn't yet updated the fixed lens. I feel that when the X100F came along with the updated sensor/processing engine, that would have been a good time for Fuji to update/refresh the optics as well, to take full advantage of the higher resolution sensor. As good as Fujinon optics are, I still believe that this particular lens could be made a bit better in terms of edge-to-edge sharpness, especially at wider apertures. Thanks!

  • @cris_photography

OMG that Sony comment - boom! Nailed it! 10/10 for your video and thumbs up ;) I just ordered my x100f a few days ago - lookin' forward to getting it and going to the streets!!
Also there is one thing you omitted here which is the HVF. Being able to see in the optical viewfinder to compose your shot and see the image in a "rangefinder style" but at the same time being able to switch in EVF or OVF mode @ any time makes a HUGE difference for me as a street photographer. This can only be found on the X-PRO 2 and the X100 series. I own the X-T10 and X-T2 as well so if I need to interchange lenses I will use those - for a wedding for example. Otherwise and like you said, I recorded 1 (yes ONE) video on my X-T2 and none on my X-T10 because... its a PHOTO camera not a RECORDING device! In fact I have other cameras in full HD - I even have the Osmo+ with Z axe from DJI or the Panono if I wanna record in 16K (no computer on the market supports that format yet though haha) for 360 degrees filming. Anyhow, thanks for the video and for sharing - you are fun to watch! (and I luv your titles - LMAO!!)
    Cheers, Cris

The problem with the X100F not sharp wide open is because it focuses a little closer than it should on shorter distances. Try it! Try taking a closeup of your own face and focus on your eye, after you have locked focus with the button half way pressed, mover your face a little little bit closer to the lens, take the shot and your eye will be in focus. Theres i noting inheritly wrong with the lens, only the closeup -focusing.

Nice review but you missed a key feature that sets this camera apart : leaf shutter. You can use the cheapest flash from any brand and still do hypersync. I use a small 2AA battery powered flash to crush the noon sun! I put the Aperture at f2, use a fast SS up to 1/4000. I believe at that speed the camera defaults to a smaller apperture to sync with flash....but it is still effective to control ambient light.

The X100 series are the perfect second camera. I love my X100s and use it more than my DSLR but at the end of the day, the DSLR is just a better all around camera and can do stuff the X100 can’t.
But the X100 fits in my pocket or a little shoulder bag. So it’s the camera I have with me. The DSLR is usually at home in it’s big Lowepro rucksack with lenses and flashes and filters etc. The DSLR is the camera you take when you go out to shoot photos. The X100 is the camera you take when you go to buy groceries.

Hi Omar, huge fan of you, your videos are funny and informative. One question: what RAW converter do you use for your X-T20? A lot of Fuji users use Iridient converter rather than Adobe product for its superior demosaic algorithm for X-trans sensor. Maybe you could do some comparison video about it?

BUT....having the camera with me at all times when I go out just weighs more.... Im considering x-t20 with 23 f2.... or 27 2.8... I would always consider...hmm should I bring my 35 alone??? or should I get the 18-55....or wide. Having the sony a7r2 and its great for product photo but it has no soul, no fun factor, and I HATE the shuttersound on a7r2. just terrible.

so... I've been using the X-T20 (silver) + 23mm F2 (also silver) for my street photography setup... I love the way it looks, but I have the opportunity to pick up an X100F, brown edition and that camera is absolutely GORGEOUS! (ugh, I wish RUclips allowed picture comments otherwise, I'd totally post it). I was tempted to sell the X-T20/23mm F2/18-55mm and buy that brown edition X100F, but I think after watching your video, I'm going to hold off and perhaps find me a silver 27mm F2.8 because that would make it a smaller package (which is another reason why I was gravitating towards the X100F).

Hi Omar, Great Video. I ran into you at PhotoPlus Remember oh well it does not matter. I have owned at Fuji x100, x100s and x100T going back to 2011. It was a great into intro Fuji with the x100. I loved those cameras and if I had room with my xT20 and XPro2 and $ I would get the F as a spare. BUT the reason I would not buy an F is Fuji is because its using that same F2 23mm lens as the original. People may disagree but it just is not sharp at F2 at any distance. It does not sharpen up until F4. I have the XT20 with a 23mm F2 it is amazingly sharp at F2. Just don''t get to close you will get a dreamy look. Plus as you pointed out its if you wanted the x100 look just buy the pancake Fujifilm XF 27mm f/2.8 lens but it is also not so sharp, a stop slower and quick focusing is an issue. RUclips does not like links but if you search "Fuji x100 • Fuji x100s • Fuji x100T Photos Montage - Lou Walter Wilson" you can see a video of photos over 5 year period with thess camers

of course I remember you Lou. Great meeting you. All great points...I think for street shooters shooting 5.6 or f8 the point is moot...but, yup...for me...I like to live wide open. Cheers..

I have the X100s and I love it for all the reasons you loved the X100f but I don't do video so that part of its less good features doesn't bother me.

Do you still feel the same about the X100 after the X100V came out?

Why not opt for the x pro-2? Or the xe-3?

The Fujifilm X 100 series is the best second camera in your collection. Your first camera like the X T20 is the jackknife of the trade, put this lens on, take it off and put another lens on, etc. The X 100 series is your muck about, go downtown, travel, take to parties camera. Using a fixed lens camera frequently provides the experience to frame in your mind quickly and choose the "decisive moment" swiftly. Its a run and gun camera. When I am doing wine country tours in British Columbia, ship cruises, shots of my first grandchild, shots of my daughter in laws marathoning, this little camera is the one I grab. If you are newbie to photography, I wouldn't recommend this camera, instead choose the X t.. line or the X T... line. But if you already own a interchangeable DSLR, then unless you're a pro, you don't need to repeat what you already have, this is the perfect second camera.

bridgeettee Glad to help. The 27mm pancake lens is a great way to go IMO for a street camera.

Great video ! would you recommend for a beginner or almost beginner...for mainly portraits (close up + environmental portraits) the XE3 rather than the the X100F ? with two or more prime lenses... Thx !

    • @ogonzilla
      @ogonzilla  6 лет назад

Chris Annecy for the way I shoot, it would be the xe3 with a few primes. Simply because I enjoy super wide sometimes. Also telephoto for headshots. But the x100 series can force you to become a better photographer.

Yes, the x100 should be a pre-req everyone should have to use it for a year or 2 before they upgrade....

Had it and got a XT-30 instead. The lens is still the same as the original x100 and when doing landscape fieldcurvature kicks in as hell. The whole concept is great but the lens is a real bummer for me.

The 50mm f2 sounds like a great small and fast portrait lens too! :D

Agreed. 56mm isn't a street camera. Thinking the 23mm or 35 is better

Hi Omar, thanks for the videos on the xt20. Question tho, I was debating between xt20 and x100f for the longest time and finally opted for the former. But I’m worried that xt20 (18-55 kit) won’t be able to take great low light street photography like the x100f can. Is this the case or are they equally good? Thanks for the advice.

I'm in the same camp, using the X100S also have the 50mm conversion lens, in order to properly upgrade Id need 1500-2000$ to get the same results in a better body plus a 1.4 lens. I'll have to save up for a really long time ! Fuji doesnt have a good range of 35 or 50mm 1.8 lenses; its either F2 or 1.4 it seems.

I love the old school look of the X-T20 yet I HATE the old school look of the X-100f. Maybe I just dislike viewfinder windows and always-visible flash bulbs.
