  • I'm glad everyone was safe, super bummed to lose this car, but at the end of the day, it's just a car.

Is the air box still available top and bottom piece and the bellow intake tube that goes from air box to throttle body.

5:30 DVDF headrests were there from the factory? Never seen that on a montero in europe.

Man, that sux. Monteros are such endangered species now that each one lost is a big bummer and especially one this nice. I’m shocked about the airbags not going off too but I think you’re right, must have been at the perfect angle to avoid the sensors - I think the main crash sensors are near the frame horns and if that barrier came in between them that likely is why it wasn’t triggered but even still, I would have thought that there are deceleration sensors that would have triggered them. That said, this is another example of Gen3s doing really well in accidents. And I’ve seen the opposite where vehicles’ airbags are way too touchy and like a 10mph fender bender deploys them and that can total a car out by itself sometimes.

Was the transfer case still ok? Those are $250 used. ECU, immobilizer, and key cylinder is $500, and gas tank if not damaged 4-500.

I know 2002 nm Pajeros in Australia have an air bag recall. (If im not mistaken)
Might follow onto np model like yours?

Uh, you probably just roasted your transmission. Don’t matter weather the transmission was in “drive” or “neutral”. There’s no fluid being pumped in the transmission, but that rear planetary gear set is still turning along with a clutch pack.. You needed to disconnect the drive shaft or at least put the transfer case in neutral….

Sad. On the bright side, one of the cool things about that gen of Monteros is that they're still cheap on the used market (if a bit hard to find).

The only thing i can picture doing that kind of damage is hitting the end of a guardrail. Maybe they never hit the brakes and thats why the airbags didnt go off?
I know my Sport looked way worse after broadsiding a pickup turning left, but i locked up the brakes and got the airbags to deploy

It hurts my heart to see this Montero in such a state, I have Monteros myself and to see one end up like this is sad. But as you said, the most important thing is that everyone is fine and that you have found a solution for your business.
Big support from a French Montero lover!!!

Damn that sux, sorry to hear about it.
Regarding the airbags, my first thought was perhaps they weren't wearing seat belts? Though I'm not familiar with the specifics of how montero airbags operate.
Glad ya got a plan for the rest of the season, and a positive outcome from insurance.

I know how you feel. We had an accident where we felt asleep and roll our 2006 Montero on the way to Utah. Montero are built tough. The roof never cave in. Lucky we found a very clean 20 Anniversary Edition Montero to replace it. BTw do u still have it.

Sorry to hear about your Gen3 being totalled,
I got my 04 Gen3 owned 12 years in the shop here in Birmingham, UK having work done to get it back on the road having failed MOT/Annual inspection. Approaching 200k miles, can't wait to get it back.
I feel your pain brother, keep the faith!
