    Hey mate just watched your review. Now a truck towing 60T of fuel is not heavier than its load. I've had 200 series, ram, patrol etc towed large boats and caravans. Now I had a van it weighed 3.9T empty. Un modified 200 series towed it easily and stable. But wanted to be compliant, brought a Ram and fuck me I was on the wrong side of the road trying to tow with this van. I now have a Mercedes, and I find it to be the best tow vehicle I've ever experienced. (ML 63) It blows my mind that I wasted so much money on the Japan cars and a second hand cheap Merc blows them all away.

    If I can have my choice of one vehicle to do it all, it would be the 300 series. The 2.8 is just too small for towing. My second choice would be the new Prado.

    The AUS NB1 Quartermaster Cab Chassis (base trim) Petrol has a kerb weight of 2,446kg & the Diesel has a kerb weight of 2,527kg both including 90% fuel tank full & all other fluids at the correct level.
    The total gross weight of both versions is 3,550kg
    Higher trim levels do have a higher kerb weight. E.g. Trialmaster with dual battery, tow pack, additional wiring, RAI, KO2 tyres, diff locks, smooth pack, all adds approx. 100kg.
    So with load capacity is 1,104 kg & 1,023 kg respectively with 81 litres of fuel. Most manufacturers either don't include the fuel or don't state if it does or not when they quote a kerb weight.
    So if you add a Norweld canopy & tray at 289 kg and the extras for Trialmaster spec at 100 kg that still leaves 700 kg & 625 kg respectively. Logic says you would add an extended fuel tank at the same time.

  • @jimbrock8977
    @jimbrock8977 Месяц назад +1

    Ay Ronny
    A consideration regarding payload weights is whatever is being towed, at least 10% of that weight lands on the towball and therefore contributes to reducing the available payload. So, if towing a 3t van there’s an extra (at least) 300kgs added to the vehicle weight.

  • @casper6800
    @casper6800 Месяц назад +2

    On the towing segment:
    Having towed a 3.5 ton trailer (loaded to that weight) multiple times now with a Grenadier, I feel comfortable in saying it tows like a dream.
    I have had one moment where my trailer was behaving a bit sketchy, but that was on account myself doing a bad job at loading it, and the weight was way too far back, but there were three 750kg prefab concrete slabs on my trailer so I couldnt just move them forward a few centimeters.

      @iwaswrongabouteveryhthing It definitely has a lot of luxurious features. But if the brochure says it can tow 3.5 ton, you can be damn sure Im going to pull 3.5 ton with it.
      And on the topic of luxury, arguably, Im stepping down.
      Since my previous car for towing was a Disco 4, which also pulls 3.5 ton but is a lot less forgiving due to its lower tongue weight rating (350kg vs 150kg)

    Ronny, go easy on all the AI images mate. They've certainly got their place, but very overdone here, especially when you're inaccurately portraying all the vehicles.. It's coming across as a bit rushed, clickbaity content. Some of your older stuff seemed a bit more genuine and thoughtful. Things like introducing the six vehicles you want to talk about first would also be a good idea. I don't mean to be critical, but thought you might appreciate the feedback. Cheers for the content nonetheless!

  • @ExpatonTwoWheels
    @ExpatonTwoWheels Месяц назад +2

    The reason the payload is so low on the RAM is Australian license laws. In the US, the GVM and GVCM is way higher. In Australia, you need a truck license to drive them loaded up. Some people convert them to truck rego and get way more use out of them, but not many people have that license.

    • @Sabumnim666

I have driven a number of the vehicles you have commented on for testing purposes. Travel will be limited to two people, probably living out of the vehicle. I consistently come back to the 76 GXL for range and practicality i.e. repair, and if confronted by challenging terrain. Tyres will probably be 33's or remain stock.

    Good lineup of vehicles that would be on most peoples starting list to narrow down. I've owned a V8 76 series, and they are not a family car. I think the new 4 cyl would be good with some comfort suspension, interior upgrades, and sound deadening but still have the axle correction issue. I think that if considering a 76, a 250 series prado base model GX with GVM upgrade would be a more comfortable and cheaper option to a 76 series GXL with additions to make it comfy(ish). Keen to see what Y63 is like also, they are very roomy and fuel prob not that bad compared to 200/300 series, cheers.

    The term “fit for purpose” is a term used in fleet management. That term covers a range of requirements and also includes “whole of life costs” and “oppertunity cost” ie forgoing one oppertunity for another. So fuel economy maybe higher on your list than towing capacity. Or say 2 fuel tanks at90 litres each for overlanding rather than 80litres and jerry cans…

I have a 24 GMC 2500HD with pop up camper and filled with gear. I get about 640KM range with a 136L tank. Rides like a buckboard at times.

    If we are only putting these 6 on the table for my own choices, then I would only pick two. The two I would choose is the Y63 Patrol and the Grenadier. Why those two? Well let's start with the Patrol. Here in the states we do not call it a Patrol, but instead the Armada. I can tell you that it is a straight out Luxury Vehicle that can haul a family around town and on long trips as needed. Also here in the States(who knows about Down Under) it is being equipped with the VR Series Engine which was introduced in the Nissan GTR. It is a powerhouse with great reliability based off the VQ Series Engine. Of course you still need to do the maintenance or it will fail(and that applies to any vehicle you have). That said I would not bother taking it OffRoad. It tells me that it doesn't belong there.
    As for the Ineos Grenadier, I would have fun with that as a Tourer. I'm pretty sure anyone here would enjoy that simply for the classic look and the way it was designed. The review you have given so far makes that pretty cool to understand, but I'm not going out and buying one as I do enjoy my 2012 D40 Frontier.
    Why not a Ram? Because I have seen how much they are truly not worth. They are absolute garbage.
    Why not a Toyota? I have way too many reasons here, but let's just go off of the good old Toyota Tax!! Way too many individuals think I should over pay for something that does not get that great of fuel range(at least in the states) and definitely doesn't have the power. Also let's face it...... You pay how much for a 70 Series and get how much? I can't justify the price. It just doesn't make sense.

      None of these cars here in oz are value anymore. Too much tech and are marketed for the dream, most spend their life in the town. The American cars are insanely priced as well.

Here in the States the only truck I would consider buying new is the D41 Frontier. It's the only Truck that is still pretty basic even with all the tech that is on there. Everything else is just too much. Should I also mention that it's easy to work on and still priced well?

    @colinross6259 Месяц назад +1

    Mention payload and towing. Didn't mention ball weight which is included in payload. 80kg up to 250kg + on big vans. Also a GVM upgrade, if car is then loaded to that GVM, cuts down your tow weight unless you get a GCM upgrade which is very difficult post rego. Two big factors in a tow vehicle you "forgot" to mention.

  • @ianweal3081
    @ianweal3081 Месяц назад

    My input, the 70 series may be rated to carry that payload but put that weight in it and the arse is on the ground & the front axle as light as.
    Handling would be atroustious, bad enough unladen.
    Towing 3.5 tonme is just lethal.

    When such an “open ended” question gets asked , something exactly like this: the response , situation depending , should be and is usually the most unlikely one that a person would least expect.
    In this case , my answer would lean towards the Very Licensed and Very Legal Name .. with very Real make and model numbers if name doesn’t work.
    Toyota Hilux - Rugged . The collab with an Australian 4x4 riders company, offering customisation to 12 or 24v system, crawl modes , harness options if that’s a route you’d want to go. All factory warranted etc. couldn’t go wrong for price point , definitely shop around coz they do vary from shop to shop. But ultimately Ultra affordable.

    I'm in this mix atm. Need to replace my Pajero & finding it hard to come to a decision. 300 or 250? Y62 or ineos? Used 200? All in that price range. Differences in range and payload are important for tourers. Has me thinking more strongly for the ineos but then why not just go for the 300 for pretty much same $$$. Difficult AF. And at the end of the day if you spend 100k you want a few luxuries and tech in the car for that sprt of money. And then you gotta take it down the track and commit to what that might entail.
