I did love my Gen 2.5. But now owning a Gen 3, I have to REALLY agree with your "Which Montero is the best" video. ON road, Gen 3 is better, and not by a little bit. Mine is so good on the highway, that even though I WANT to start throwing a lift and 33's at it......man, I really don't want to chance disturbing what works so well right now. The 3.8 and 5-speed? Yes. BIG improvement. The Gen 2 and 2.5 however, have that classic look, and I absolutely miss the factory Locker. I didn't own my Gen 2.5 even long enough to use the Locker (beyond checking function), but knowing it was THERE was a big comfort.

Just got my second GEN3 sight unseen too. I LOVED my first one when I had it enjoyed it for 150k miles before I sold it. This new one is an 05 with 99k miles on it single owner no accidents.
Needs some maintenance however timing belt was just done. I need to do new brakes, rotors, calipers all around, and going to drain and refill Trans, T-Case and diffs, coolant flush, prob an alignment check and should be solid! Can’t wait to eventually get some new AT tires prob next year and that’s about it.

I love a basically stock one nowadays. And the 3.0 24v engine isn't really giving up too much vs the 3.5l. Nice find!

How many miles on your new Montaro? it looks like it's in great shape for its age. I have the identical year/color gen 2 in the SR trim......so far, I have kept it stock, but your videos inspire me to maybe change a few things eventually but it's always a bit of a dilemma given that I like the stock look.

I own a gen2 and in my personal, humble and very biased opinion the look the best and are probably the most capable. We toured Botswana in 2 gen2's and went 3500km with no problems at all!!!

@montanamontero . I've looking to do one myself after I move to USA. I'm currently in Australia, and currently drive a gen 2 Pajero (Montero) RHD (2.8 4M40, manual transmission). As I understand the Gen 2 Montero in USA never got the diesel option.

Hey this is sick!! Used to be my buddies that you got it from, he got it for free from one of his coworkers and I'm happy to see it being loved! It was a blast to drive around in while he had it and I'm sure it's even better now. Love to see more of it!!! Also love that you kept SpongeBobs pineapple in it lmao

WOW! Im so glad I came across your channel dude. I am so happy to see that im not the only one who loves my monteros at least in the states.... I know they love them around the world and pajero is so underrated and for its age super reliable beefy and functionality is incredible and ive owned new x5s , qx5s, bunch of fords and 2000 MDX. MY 94 montero SR with every option 30k zero rust or damage is incredible and honestly one of my favorite cars to drive. You did a great job describing all the features and bells and whistles. mines that jungle green too. mine was basically a (Nantucket) Barn find. and i laughed at it when i first saw it. haha lil did i know! pretty sure they bought it new and used it once or twice a year and garaged it as their Island vehicle. and once i realized how mint it was and stock i had to have. been stopped and offerd crazzy money and dont care. you are correct though to own one you either are rich or know how to work on it from the bearing to suspension diffs and the 3.5 is pretty quick... on the stock tires and rims. so if you read this and have the time i would love to ask you a few questions about yours seeing you have best of both worlds (stock/Moded) Ive done everything as far as the maintenance you described front to back... love the plates i moded the bolts a lil on the front for easier oil changes but, I would love to pick your brain on what i need to do in order to keep the 15s currently with (275/70r15) but get a lil beefier tire good for trails aswell as how to raise it like you mentioned. I dont want to loose any stability or handling. more for looks and just incase...

I don’t much about monteros but I love the look of the gen 1 series. I have a 97 4 runner and I’m considering selling it and getting the Montero. Can someone chime in on the longevity and access to parts. I don’t plan on doing any rock climbing. Just dirt roads creek camping with the family. The one I’m buying has a newly rebuilt engine. It’s super clean. A LS model. Everything works perfect. $8500. Is this a good deal and has any readers switched from 3rd gen 4 runner to 1st gen Montero? Thanks in advance.

Bout the same with what I did with my gen 3 I bought it for dirt cheap with 320k miles and next day went off-roading with my buds since then I’ve put 20k miles on it and and the 3.5 just doesn’t give up knock on wood but great car I got the limited so the only thing I would change would be the leather seats with time they have gotten so stiff it feels like ur sitting on a plastic chair, I should probably add that the gen 3 Montero is fantastic but the sensors for the 4wd is a pain especially the center dif lock I think they should’ve stayed true to manual locks on the hub cuz once 1 sensor goes out damn near all of them stop working, I currently only got 4h but it’s solid *ANYONE THAT WANTS TO PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE*
understand that it’s a 22 year old car keep up on maintenance!!! If I could go back and take care of the car before I started taking it off-roading I would just because the car could pull it off didn’t mean it liked it the vehicle had a lot of components fall apart suspension wise because one component was blown out. Take care of the car and this car will take care of you, timing belt, cooling system, MAF, sensors, etc. other than that fantastic car beat the crap out of it and it’ll drive you home no matter what.

Great content man-thanks! I have a 95 Gen 2 SR that I bought new. It now has 286K miles but I drive it every day. I absolutely love the vehicle. It’s in great shape: no rust, no engine issues (yet), and it doesn’t even use oil. I love your how-to videos and really appreciate your tips. Thank you!

The 3000GT used the same 6G72 engine block, so the turbo heads from that will fit on your 3.0 Montero.
