Great video, I had a lot of these issues too. Another solution to the top glove box latch issue is to gently drill the plastic right in the middle of the latch assembly with a large diameter drill to reveal the keyhole hiding underneath, then use the ignition key to open it. If you do a clean job with the drilling, you can leave it as-is and not replace it.

Good Video. I mentioned in the last video my apprehension to do my exhaust mani gaskets on my 02(192,000) and now prepared to deal with cracks. Actuator, glove box, dash lights(both back tires out), tensioner(was told by two shops I need a new engine; idiots), o2 sensors, lean codes...good info again! Thanks!

I also have power seats that are stuck but luckily in my position vs my shorter wife🤣 My key fob works at distance but I think the actuator on the driver side is broken since it only locks with key or inside latch vs power button. So far, mine is doing alright compared. When I got it, the centre diff light would flash, but it hasn’t done that inna while. I did just change the valve cover gaskets, and the o-ring for the bitterly valves shaft, and the bonus is that all those screws to the valves are tight. I did tear into the rear door one time, but a shot of oil fixed my rear door issue. The timing belt is worrisome, but no issue yet. I might have that rattle at the transmission bushings, but not annoying yet. Then again, I don’t known what work has been done already.

I've change the starter 2 times in 4 years due to fuel return line leaking on it (line changed while fuel pump replacement)
I had a leak on oil pressure sensor and had to replace it
Resistors pack for rear A/C speed setting was unsoldered
Air box broke as you shown in the video

  • @RobertLukierski
    @RobertLukierski Год назад +3

I'd add some diesel related based on my experience with my Pajero 3.2DiD:
    - original steel fuel tank corrodes or zinc plating flakes off (various theories) and these shavings make their way through the fuel filter and damage the Zexel injection pump, an expensive repair,
    - 3.2DiD 4M41 engine is chain based and should last very long, provided that the top chain slider and chain tensioner are regularly checked and replaced,
    - I had to rebuild my transmission, shafts of the planets on the final drive planetary gearset got loose, fortunately not to the point of grinding all the teeth, replace your AT oil and filter every 50000 km guys!, unlike the 6 previous owners of my Pajero
I too had the problems with transfer case switches, OEM are stupidly expensive and cheapos don't last long. Brake booster motor can be rebuild cheaply by installing new commutator and brushes.
However, the biggest elephant in the room, not mentioned in the video: RUST! Rust everywhere. My Pajero sure is 20 years old now and it probably didn't have easy life, but now I'm in the process of welding all 4 wheel arches and both rocker panels, including patching both inner, internal and outer panels.
Avoid bitumen based coatings, go for cavity wax spray or the likes of FluidFlim.
Front wheel liners are a joke as they maybe cover 1/2 of the wheel arch and let mud go beyond them and accumulate. Same with rear right wheel with the fuel filler piping that also hangs onto mud. Entire rear of the car, especially the bumper, is also a place that accumulates mud which causes rear AC and heater lines to corrode and break. It is like Mitsubishi designed this car to carry mud.

Really enjoying your content way down yonder in Argentina, I have a 2004 Montero Limited I bought from a couple who drove it all the way down from Alaska, it runs great except for one issuie occasionaly when starting my Montero , this issue happens only lets say 1/15 starts, she mostly fires right up, but sometimes I get in and it does not respond when I turn the key. All the dash lights are on when I am trying to start it, but nothing from the starter. I've always been able to get her it fire up by shifting into nuetral and trying again except or today she wouldnt even fire in neutral. I finally managed to get her to fire after shaking the battery a bit. I did replace the battery a couple of weeks ago so dont think this is the issue. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, parts are hard to come by down here.

Last week they got hold of a very early scanner and managed to interrogate only the ABS system, nothing else. But, just yesterday, I've found very handy info specific on the 3.5L engine, you can bridge out pins 1 and 4 on the OBD port, turn on the ignition, and then read the fault codes at the Check Engine Light. There are about 13 codes that can be read that way. Check out the Haynes Repair Manual

Wish it was only minor things on mine... finally the automatic transmission blew up out of nowhere.
Thas was to expensive to fix and parts weren't even available. Had to sell it which is a real shame because i really liked it (at gas sations no to much :D).

the transmissions on these can be a pain, it seems to meet that if they are well maintained, fluid changed regularly and not overheated they last forever, but as soon as they are abused or run hot for an extended period of time they don't come back. that being said, i'm not kind to mine, and it shifts like a new car still!

Brake Booster + Clicking brake pedal noises (need to bleed brakes with MUT tool or from Booster itself?) .
shuddering or studdering transmission at low RPM, 1500-1800rpm.
Gas Tank leak at fuel pump?
Those are the things i am living with currently on my 2002 : ]

The parts are getting hard to find and that's causing me to move on.

I’ll never understand why people keep buying cars that they know are known for problems and lack reliability

This video makes it seem like these are piece of shits lol, I agree on the common issues I have had two 2001s issues with my first one with 205kmiles was not going into 4low and brake booster failing. My second one 173k is torn drivers seat top glove box stuck, not going into any 4wd modes and it seems to be running rich (smells of gas) p0173 code. If you have any info on that code let me know thanks! I still love these damn things I dont know why premium gas 13mpg lmao.

like any car, they have their issues. but i think they more than make up for it with their benefits. i have a bunch of videos on that as well
