    Live in Denver - 3 Defender 90s, 1 Defender 110, 3 Range Rovers, 1 LR3 (still have the 110 and LR3) in 24 years. No major issues. LR3 is my daily driver. 160,000 miles. Zero issues except I tried to buy an aftermarket gas cap. Nope, gotta go oem. Still on the original suspension. Need to pickup Sheetrock? No problem. Need seating for 7? Easy. Want to go 4 wheeling with your Jeep friends. Sure. V8 HSE LR3 is the best vehicle LR has ever made. And I’ve owned enough LR’s to give that opinion. I’ve also owned Toyota Tacomas and 2 Land Cruisers. Nice trucks. But boring on the inside. And, contrary to popular belief. They break down and they are expensive to fix…. All good. Doesn’t matter what you drive…as long as you like it.

    Tommy, if you really like the rock rails, take them to a local power coat company. They will blast them and powder coat for a few hundred dollars. You will have to remove them but then you will have a good opportunity to paint some bed liner/ stone chip under the sides.

    I bought a 2007 LR3 HSE about a year ago and it also has been great. Had 132k miles when bought and is in great condition inside and out. Done some deferred maintenance the PO should have like wheel bearings and lower control arms. Changed all the same fluids Tommy did (but did it myself for much cheaper). They're surprisingly simple to work on. Loving it so far after a year of ownership.

    I'm a Brit in Denver. After a couple of years of looking, found an '06 LR3 SE 74,000 miles, 2 previous owners (SoCal and CO, so rust free), extensive service history. $8,000. Clearly spec'd for SoCal - no heated seats but has a sunroof and the "upgraded" stereo. Original air suspension. Love. This. Truck. Ask me again after a CO winter....it will spend a lot of time in the mountains. My last LR was a '95 D1, 70,000 trouble free miles. I might be suffering from a false sense of security. I’ve owned two Disco II’s. One of which my father bought new in December ‘99 and I kept it for 20 years. By the time I sold it the dealer had changed the transmission twice and I’d done a head gasket job and full engine swap myself. For all the character it had, I had to recognize that it was an absolute money pit and sold it.
    The LS and transmission swap will address the failings of the Disco. I never had any issues beyond the transmission and engine with either of my Disco’s. I’d love to see a full build series on the process!
    I’m in a 100 series Land Cruiser now and while they absolutely require maintenance, the build quality and reliability is light years ahead of the Rover.

    Hi from South Africa, been using LRs for 50 years, have also owned just about everything else, including 12 of the 'most reliable T brand' vehicles in the world, bottom line is if it has wheels it needs regular tlc or it will break. I can write a book about the positive aspects of LRs verses the rest, specially when used in really extreme conditions like game catching and hunting in desert(Kalahari) conditions, where if you wound an animal you have to catch it(with a vehicle), ironically the D2 has one of the toughest standard suspensions to do this. Hence the reason these are my preference.

      Not a rebadged Ford at all. Also, only the V6 was a Ford based engine, but even it had balance shafts added and a more robust oiling system added. There are some videos out there of the factory testing the LR3 smashing over concrete holes, going over jumps and all kinds of madness- just pummeling the thing.

    The biggest Land Rover haters are almost always people that have never owned one! I love my ‘09 LR3, by far the best vehicle/money ratio out there. Even with some repairs, you get a very capable and comfortable vehicle for little money. I will say though, if you plan on buying one, make sure you are willing and able to work on it yourself. What could be a repair in the hundreds of dollars will instead be in the thousands.
    Oh and one more thing, if you think a Land Cruiser isn’t maintenance intensive, you’re wrong on that one. They love their maintenance and will bite you if not taken care of properly. I’m not talking about oil changes either, I’m talking about things like replacing the entire radiator when doing a timing belt change on the 100 series for example.

    I recently bought a 220,000 mile LR3 to compliment my E46 M3. It's been owned and maintained by Land Rover nerds most of its life so it's in great shape despite the miles. I've done a bunch of preventative maintenance in the hopes of keeping it on the road for many more miles. So far I've just had to replace the parking brake shoes, and patch up a slightly worn fuel sender line that was shorting on the frame.
    Incidentally I also had a bad experience with Terrafirma. I had to return two of their roof racks due to comically bad manufacturing defects. I was so put off the brand that I'm planning to replace the perfectly good Terrafirma ladder that came with the truck just because I don't want their logo on my truck.

    Kase you should just run a np241 chevy t case. Those axles will not hold the power. Get the np241 or 261 out of a silverado. And a d60 front from a obs Ford and a dana 60 rear from a 2nd gen dodge ram. 6.0 LQ4s can shred dana 44 pinions. Gotta run 60s dude. Thank me later.

    • @kasevr
      @kasevr 5 дней назад +1

      I think the dana axles would be too wide for the body, im gonna buy some upgraded axle shafts for the stock stuff and run it carefully to see how it does. If i break axles every other week I’ll go another route but the stock stuff axles/t-case arent horrible

    • @thelaw300
      @thelaw300 5 дней назад

      I agree with Austin. Been there, done that. Upgrading shafts will just lead to grenading gears and differentials. Also agree with a np241 at minimum. The 261 is a slight upgrade in capacity. If you want to bombproof it look at a 271.

      @krover01 what gears are they running. My 4.3 chevy v6 has shredded a 4.56 pinion on a D44 front. It's a solid axle s10.

    Can you do LS swap and still register it in Denver and pass emissions? Or registering a car like this is only possible out of Denver Metro Area?

    This was great, everybody goes on about conversions but this is the most I've learned about it, ever, and Tommy if someone spends millions making an AC repair kit there's a good chance (100%) that it does what it says ... Millenials and millions and millions of other adults seem to struggle with reality at it's most basic. Here's why it matters
    "This constant lying is not aimed at making the people believe a lie, but at ensuring that no one believes anything anymore."
    A people that can no longer distinguish between truth and lies cannot distinguish between right and wrong.". Thats by a German philosopher about how hitlers gang fooled the german people into a war of utter madness

    If I were to get a LR3 getting that transmission service "swap", for easier service, what could I expect to spend? at a shop, anybody did it already? if you dont, you simply dont change the transmission oil?

    To be honest your wrangler with manual locks was a bit too far. But still is nice a simple "basic" spec. Like i can deal with no heated seats or auto headlights. Specially if i get so many off-road buttons to play with

      @jerroldshelton9367 5 дней назад +1

      You would be wrong, about the reliability, anyhow.. The SOHC Cologne V6 has a reputation for puking cam chain guides that it definitely earned in powering Ranger, Explorer, and Mustang. Changing them is a PITA. I had to yank the engine out of my 4X4 Ranger to do the job. That cemented the end of my relationship with that turd.
      If you've got a SOHC Cologne V6, the question isn't IF your engine is going to puke cam chain guides. It is a question of when. There is nothing fun about changing them, Paying someone else to do it is even less fun.

    $2k, even $3k in maintenance & a few extras is not a lot of $, it ain't nuthin. 1 regular person's regular car's visit to a regular dealer will cost nearly that much....
