This was bound to happen at some point, i bought a Montero at auction, on accident. Join me as i figure out why i was able to get this thing for so cheap!
Fix it and you will have another rental car for your customer. I would love to see a mild overland-explorer type of build. Fix it, sort it out, make a sleeping platform inside, table at the rear trunk door etc. Just some simple overland mods, get some A/T tyres on it and rent it out.
Definitely worth saving!! For $700, I feel that any problem would be worth fixing to keep that clean gen3 on the road. Even just installing same motor would be mint!! For an engine swap, I really think that an ls swap would be insane for this Montero. Although there's very little info about the swap itself, several people have done it. In the future, I am considering doing a LM7 5.3l (2001 suburban) swap into my 2000 Montero sport. It'll be a lot of work but it'd be sick.
That motor was either running for a bit after the initial rod snapped or it was on highway speed when it snapped. Either or...that shortblock is toast. That Gen 3 is in great shape body wise. Hopefully the transmission is in great shape and drivetrain. It's worth saving ...put another motor in it and it's ready. That Gen 3 deserves another go at life.
i am still rebuilding my 03 , took heds off becouse it was free spining, i will take my block out to, are you going to do upgrades to this motor , or swap to a mivec from a eclips lol do a build so we can copy it ..thanks for the vid
Soon as you showed the pan from underneath my first thought was, "Yep that looks like a thrown rod". I know you are a bit more into staying with the Mitsi gear on your builds but curious how much work it would be to maybe toss in a 4.3 Vortec from an S10. Gain power without going overboard and maybe even increasing overall reliability and mileage.
Dude the top glove compartment and the rear door latches both broken..haha Yup its a gen 3 Montero. Also the butterfly valves.. it's the accumulator motor away from a Montero bingo. Also I hate it when my Montero goes bloop bloop bloop. 😂
Your breakdown and description of the engine parts where on point. Unfortunately given the conclusion I like to see an engine swap possibly vortec. It certainly be a waste of Montero left to die!
Awesome vehicle. I got the same 3.0 engine 2005 model from Emirates, as a project car. Project was done within one month. Still with me since September 2022. Stability and speed is better than I thought even cornering. 190 kmph until now. Most of all parts are genuine except suspension bushes. Engine half overhauled. Not the block. Good performance in the desert. For your car, better fix another used engine.
@@montanamontero his ol' Cornbinder is an awesome truck. I'm def more of a Car Guy than a knife guy...lol I luv all his content working on his old machines. I found his channel looking up rehabbing an old anvil.😎 I've been watching since of your Mitsu stuff too.👍
Best videos on RUclips, mah boi. I picked up a Pajero recently and your vids helped convince me it was the way to go. Thx, I’m broke now.

Got my Montero at the action as well. Was missing a cat. converter but nothing major. Engine swap it. Thanks for sharing.
I Accidentally watch your video for 28:11 minutes
Do what the Aussies have done v8 swap.
Go to diesel, put the 3.2 turbo diesel engine in it!

My one has NO DRIVERS SEAT WEAR...
Brooooo I just got into monteros the sport to be exact 03 ….what’s the stuff that I should do engine wise to keep her going 70k on it

LS swap it, I believe you bethe 1st to do it this model
The fact that it runs is amazing, it's a testament to Mitsubishi's engineers.
don't think somebody would save it unless you have some other engine to swap. There are some BMW engine swaps inside the montero.
Junkyard motor swap then fix it up and keep it
Find a newer short block. Ignore the engine swappers, it's never as easy to integrate everything onto a completely different engine. Stay 3.8.
4m40 2.8 diesel conversion
Bargain if there's no bad rust. They're a great 4wd worth the cost and effort.❤
Good to see you keeping these trucks running. Wish you were closer you can help me find one for my daughter’s first car😂

Good video, enjoyed watching. The top glove box has the same lock as the bottom one, just dril the plastic away!
I would like u to save it make it a beater car
Hi guys,
can put it under the hood there best engine ever 2jz :)
in Poland most often we SWAP to M57 from BMW or Mercedes OM606 ;)
BR from Polnad
that would be pretty awesome!
Save it and turbo it😊 I have the 3.2 diesel version here in france

Enough replacement engines available. Replace & resell seeing as you have all equipment & knowledge.
actually, tracking down a good replacement motor for this turned out to be pretty difficult, not to mention getting it shipped to montana.
Hello brother, how are you? One question is the cash cam oil that you have in the montero pagero generation 3 working for you?
the catch can is mostly good. not sure it's needed, but i have it anyway
put some ford 5.0 in it hahahah
We’re living parallel lives I swear, just picked up a damaged 2004 this week!
Send me the engine :)
It’s bad that I knew that sound immediately. I heard it and was like dang my boy has a hole in the block.
haha now i will know for the future
Rebuild it! Nice vid
Put a diesel in it
Build a rock crawler out of it

Wowww ! Can believe that motor still run
pretty wild right?
I hope you save this beauty
What are your thoughts on the 3.8?
@@Thecarexchangepodcast I actually like it, you just have to keep an eye on the oil burning and butterfly valves
I picked up a 2005 4runner 4wd at a really good price this week. What are some things to check if everything is good?
the HydroBooster is working? I am still looking for one for my 2004 Limited Montero!
Worth saving
And of course the temp gauge solder is bad lol
haha yep, good eye!
@@montanamontero I’ve done 2 of them lol honestly I’m thinking of copping another 3rd gen they’re hard to completely break away from
Quick question whats your thoughts on doing the spark plugs on a 3.5l im curious
it's intimidating to pull the intake off, but not bad at all. worth doing the job every 90k
Will sent me over😎
awesome! we are talking about a colab video right now haha

I'd need to see more of the underbody. Rust is the thing that scares me the most!
it's rust free, except for that door
Save it please! I got one from copart as well. Will be posting my work in your group on FB. Mine is 2001 limited with 98.000 miles
