Just did this job. Some tips: 1. A petcock is located on the right side of the rad. Attach some tubing to its outlet and avoid a lot of splashing. Only open the petcock enough to allow a good flow to drain the rad (remove coolant bottle cap too). I don't know if you open the petcock fully if it would pop out and splash every where. 2. As the thermostat and outlet are one manufactured piece, keep the old one grind the ears off what is holding the thermostat in place. Stand aside when doing this as that thermostat spring really goes. Now use the old thermostat housing when you need to flush the coolant and keep it for future flushing's.
@@best_technician thx the other end of the hose that attaches to the thermostat right? Seems like it will be very messy and dump all over but I guess the only way
The thermostat and housing are one unit. There are two types of thermostats 2013-14 have a sensor opening on top and the 2015 onward has no sensor opening.
Thanks for the reply brother. Could you assist with figuring out why radiator fans won't come on and a.c blowing hot? Checked fuses, relays all good...I noticed when I unplugged the temp sensor, fans came on..You think that could be the problem?
I'm having a issue with the car over heating now the needle is fluctuating up and down a bit..any clue I have the same car..and my fans stay in after car is off for 3min any help would be appreciated
Make sure there is no air in the system by check the coolent when the car is cold . If the car keeps over heat. Let me know if there is any compression is building in the coolent hose.

is the water outlet different then the thermostat housing? my dealer says the water outlet is leaking. If it is different where does the water outlet sit?
@@best_technician oh ok because i have the same car but its a 2013 so idk if im just replacing the part that you replaced or if the water outlet is a totally different part and is somewhere else on the malibu?

Awesome sauce! Thank you for the video. Just save me 250 bucks. You are the man
Nice video I have to change my thermostat I have same car. One question I have is do I have to drain the coolant first?
no you don't have to
Just put something under the car so you can catch the antifreeze so you don't make a lot of mess
@@best_technician Do you know the best way to drain the coolant in this car? I want to replace it with fresh coolant.
@Jonn Abshire take the bottom radiator hose out and turn the car on for 30 seconds
@@best_technician thx the other end of the hose that attaches to the thermostat right? Seems like it will be very messy and dump all over but I guess the only way
Nice video but can’t be but so real when it comes to removing the bottom bolt
How did you remove that red and black plug in? I can’t get it.
can you remove just thermostat from the housing?
The thermostat comes with the housing.
Abdel Mechanic You can buy the thermostat separate and not have to spend $200 idiot

@@SirEggscellent the entire housing with thermostat can be purchased for roughly $40...
Could the thermostat being stuck open make the radiator fan not come on?
No . The fan should work either way.

@@I-yah890 Most likely the fan itself needs to be change
We changed it but the radiador fan stills running for 3-4 minutes after we turned off the car 😞
That's not the problem. You have an electric issue. It could be the fan control module .
video is good enough to get the idea
Thanks
Thank you

@@best_technician I have this same problem I feel compression in the hose. Do I need to bleed the coolant system more?
I’ve changed my water pump and thermostat. Still it gets hot. I do not see any leaks. But it gets hot. I feel pressure in the hoses. (High and lower)
@Montes Manifest check the fan if not the head gasket is bad .
@@best_technician thank you.
How do you bleed air from a 2016 1.5L malibu radiator that has no bleeding valves anywhere

Or you can keep adding anti freeze why the car is running and the coolant cap is open for 15 Minutes
No gasket needed?
O ring on the thermostat housing is the only gasket You need
I changed the thermostat just like the video. I drove it everything was fine. then the check engine light turned on what can that be?
Check the Coolant level. And make sure you did cut a wire why you were doing the thermostat
Abdel Mechanic thanks a lot It was low and I added coolant and the light turn off

Yes sometimes the thermostat come with the Outlet. But not on this car

@@best_technician ok do you happen to know where its located on the malibu?
I can tell you where is it you can Google it.
