    Did this same operation on our 2012 Buick Verano, same engine, parts, and placement it looks like. You described what we did perfectly. I'm impressed you did it yourself, having a second set of hands was really helpful for the pump. Probably mainly because the space to work in for timing window port is way less on the Verano than on your Malibu, like half the distance, was a bitch to get into. I think it's the same distance to the wheel well but our Verano has an extra sound/vibration dampener mat on that wheel well wall taking up a good amount of space and couldn't be removed without taking a bunch more off like AC lines, and if we were going to do that might as well just take the dang engine out. So to get more space, took the engine off the mount and lifted it up a few inches to get to it easier.

      Hi Jason. Yes it was a bit tight in there but I have done these before and was prepared for the battle..lol. You really have to love the location of some of the parts and bolts, just the worst spots to put anything. Thanks for your comment.

      I know the feeling. My 2010 Malibu pump just went. They wanted the same with 500.00 discount. I did find a shop called NTB. They wanted 1k and some change. Only because of replacing the timing belt is a must. They claimed.

    Hi I replaced my water pump today also the thermostat, the magnet trick worked great with installing the bolts into the pump without dropping them. I filled with almost a gallon of coolant when I finished I let the car run for about 15 mins the heater is not getting hot. My temperature stayed close to middle of the gauge but no heat? Any tips? Thanks.

    • @reibenny
      @reibenny 4 месяца назад

      Check to see if both of your heater hoses are getting hot. If one is hot and one is cold I would try running the engine at about 2000 rpms to circulate the coolant, it could just be a small air pocket trapped and not allowing the coolant to flow completely.

    I'm in the process of changing my water pump because its leaking coolant. My question would I have to deal with the timing chain, at any time in this process.

    • @thedrivewaygreasemonkey2347
      @thedrivewaygreasemonkey2347  4 года назад +4

      Hi Moses Mahone. You won't have to deal with the timing chain per say but you will be working with the gear that goes in the timing assembly. You will need to get the tool that I used in the vid. That tool, once in place will hold the gear in place so the timing chain isn't affected. Once the tool is in place you can safely remove your old pump and install your new one. Here is a link to another video where I used the tool. Hope this helps. ruclips.net/video/5kvq8G90S8c/видео.html

    Hey buddy. How long did this job take you with all the correct tools? Just wondering if its 4 hrs or an all day affair.

    • @thedrivewaygreasemonkey2347
      @thedrivewaygreasemonkey2347  4 года назад +2

      Hi steveday. If you have never done one before I would plan on at least 4 hours. It is all relatively easy but you really need to take your time getting those small bolts back into the gear in the pump. It is really tight in there and you dont want to drop those bolts.

    • @thedrivewaygreasemonkey2347
      @thedrivewaygreasemonkey2347  4 года назад +1

      Hi Moses. Sorry for the delayed response. I used a 1/4 inch ratchet and a deep 10mm to get them loose and then used a magnet to finish unscrewing them and get them out without dropping them. I used the same technique to get them back in.

      @@thedrivewaygreasemonkey2347 it totally fine i got my waterpump changed. So I let the car ran for 30 mins, no whine but as soon as I took it 4 a test drive it started to whine. So now I have to get my timing chain replaced to stop the whining. Other than the whining my engine is sounding normal. Is it possible even with the specialty tool, will it cause the timing chain to get tighter/whining?
