The thermostat part I bought was ACDelco 15-81752

Complete with thermostat, housing, gasket.

While removing the electronic connection I broke the red tab trying to get it apart... it was hard for me to get it off so I just said eff it and broke it off instead. Hopefully you have better luck with getting it off because I can’t help you.
Tools Needed:
Grip Pliers
Ratchet
10mm Socket
Flathead Screwdriver (Optional)
My girlfriend and I were cracking up over the honest commentary in this video. Thank you for helping us fix her car.
Just wanted to add my props to the OP for posting the video and I wanted to share my experience and pay it forward.
In my case with a Stone cold car, I start it up and 30 seconds later the temp gauge pegs hot and the message appears. It also would run the radiator fans full blast until the battery goes dead when you shut the car off.
I started with the radiator sensor, to remove it, theres a clip you pull out and remove it from the radiator. Have the new one handy and the engine better be cold because your going to loose coolant. Installed the new one and tested. No joy. ($12) Then I tried the sensor on the thermostat housing. To remove it i found it easiest to remove the three 10mm bolts holding the exhaust manifold heat shield. The bottom shield bolt is going to be rusty and your prob going to break it. I didn’t bother replacing it seeing the top two were fine. Remove the clip and the sensor should slide out. Mine didn’t and i broke it pulling it out so I ended up getting a replacement thermostat unit which had the housing, thermostat and sensor included. ($43) still didn’t fix the car though, researched and found theres a third sensor. Remove the decorative plastic engine cover and its on the far right side of the engine block on a black plastic manifold. Follow the hose from the coolant bottle to locate it. Same procedure to change as the radiator sensor. Pull the Clip, wire...
This one solved my problem. So had I gone in the other order I’de be into this repair for only $20 instead of around $80 with coolant. Live and learn, still better than taking the car to the dealer though!
Happy wrenching!
So what you're saying is remove the one that's under the engine cover first? I'm getting p0521 and we already replace the oil pressure sensor since the car keeps telling us that the engine oil is low. It was 280 for an oil change and the change of the oil pressure sensor. Don't want to take it back to the mechanic and get ripped off again.
Good information I also like the way you put the tools needed in the description box thanks made it so easy keep the videos coming
Thanks for video. I knew I was watching the right video when I heard Grateful Dead music in background.
WHERE DID HE FIND THE 10mm lol
Thanks for the instruction. Beats the hell outta payin a crooked ass mechanic 70+ dollars an hour. Appreciate it.
Thanks for the video it was very helpful!
Thank you so much for your videos. They help bigtime
Pretty sure that dog is now deceased for drinking coolant off the ground
How did u take that connector piece off. I’m having a hard time getting mine off and I don’t want to just snatch it
I cant get it either
leaves out the most important part. 🤦🏿
@@nolimitrrob there is a piece in the middle that will go in when you push on it after you take out the safety pin. Push that down and at the same time use a flathead to push the top piece of the male end off the piece attached to the thermostat. It should pop off. It took some doing but we got mine off today
Did somebody have had to reprogram/relearn the thermostat after replacement?
Getting a hard time with mine went thru everything already
I would of taken the heat shield of buddy makes it a lik better
Oh my god, please help me. If I change the one under the car do I have to change the one on top to? Will it work if I only do one and not the other?
I hope that dog didn't drink the antifreeze😮 😅
Step one was omitted (left out) for some reason. It would have been more appropriate (the way it shudda been) to have performed (did) this procedure (job) under a shade tree.
is the water oulet the same as the thermostat housing. because the dealer is saying its separate. if so where is it on the vehicle?
I think the water outlet is different. Idk the location though.
Im having thr hardest fucking time getting that lower screw off. No matter how hard i try.....so frustrated cuz it really is an easy job that im now gonna have to pay a fortune for someone else to do.
I replaced mine it’s still throwing the same code but so far it hasn’t over heated and it’s not low like it used to be what do I do now
Pepboys was gonna charge me $410 just to change that?.
Thanks for the video !!!

What symptoms did your car cause you to change the thermostat?
I have the same problem and same car, and I ordered the part and the guy at autozone says I can’t do it without the car being lifted mid air is that true or can the housing replacement get replaced without lifting the car?
Darco Beats no need to lift it
The heat is not blowing in mine is that the thermostat
How did you take that red clip off?
Love this video.
Do u bleed the coolant 🤔🤔
Thanks for the video bro. I’m about to repair myne. Did it happen to turn your a/c off and say overheating on your dash before you replaced the thermostat.? I’m thinking that’s what is wrong with my Malibu it’s a 13’ and it’s says over heating and it turn my a/c off. My coolant is full and everything
HVAC Apprentice yeah it did turn my ac off saying engine is too hot. It doesn't matter if It was chilling with Santa 🎅 at the north pole. Soon you start it it says that. I replaced my thermostat and it ended up doing it again. I took it to the dealer and they told me I needed a new thermostat (again) and needed to replace my water outlet. I didn't do it again yet. My check engine code was P111e
King leonidas. Did you figure it out?
How much fluid came out when you took the hose off?
I have the opposite problem where my car wouldn't heat up this morning in the 40° temp. Likely a stuck open thermostat

joejjohnston72 I replaced my thermostat and I replaced a temperature sensor in the radiator also. The problem still remained. I just kept resetting the fault codes to allow my ac to work and eventually the ac problem went away. But I wouldn't say a whole gallon came out but it was a lot
Most likely the relay
Quiero saber cual fue el fallo por motivo de cambiarlo
I will like to buy that car..
I’ve had to replace water pump thermostat reservoir radiator intake exhaust solenoids and now I’m being told I need to replace engine temperature sensor because my car still sometimes get hot 🤦🏾♂️
CHVMPVII YT throw the whole car away lol. Nah but sorry to hear that. This was a cheap fix. Just try it out and see if it works.
Lol for real. I just paid it off. So imma just stack until it dies. Then I’ll buy something used out right.
CHVMPVII YT aye me too. No more notes for me. Car notes kills your wealth. Still drippin on the gram 🔥
How many milles or kilometros did the car have? Thanks
About 110k-120k
I'm dealing with this but mine is around 74,900 miles in.
A mfking 10 mm😂😂cute.
Please tell me where the engine coolant temperature sensor is. I have to replace mine on my 2015 Chevy Malibu.
It's in the thermostat housing.
Would you be able to take a pic of the sensor location and send it to me.
@@white_lightning I will DM u 👉👤
@@KingNidus could you please send me a picture of where the coolant sensor is located. Thank you.
@@9Abood7 I uploaded a new video for y'all.
Does anyone know how to flush the system?
Do the radiator have a drain plug
Yeah, it's on the passenger side at the bottom of the radiator
Thanks a lot I’m start on it tomorrow do you have a channel on RUclips
Question: Can you replace just the sensors? or is replacing the thermostat housing NOT optional?
My 13' malibu just started saying AC off due to High Engine Temp but my temp gauge is NOT moving from cold as if it was left overnight even tho I drove for over 30 mins and still wont move from Ice Cold on the Temperature Gauge..... Does any of this sound familiar? and if so What do you think I should do first?
Gregorio Padilla yes that’s exactly what it does. I don’t know if the thermostat is stuck open or close or if the sensors went bad so I replaced the thermostat and both sensors to be sure. I plugged in an obd2 reader and reset the codes so I can get the ac to work. The scanner also showed the coolant temp at 234.
@@KingNidus One Last Question: When the problem first happened as far as the message on the screen saying "AC Off due to High Engine Temp" Did you notice if your car was running like on "Limp Mode" or like if it was actually messing up when you were driving it? The reason why I ask is because my car honestly feel fine all things considered and ive driven it like that for a good amount of time and distance yesterday and I didnt feel anything at all wrong with the car its quiet smooth etc it just worries me that its actually going to break down on me or overheat on me even tho after leaving it sit in cold weather over night when i got in thd car this morning the AC Off msg came up again even tho i know for a fact that its ice cold so im guessing its going to keep coming on until the issue is resolved right? Even tho i plan on fixing it ASAP it still worries me because its my only car so I have to drive it from time to time you know but do you think it will be okay to drive like that in the meanwhile? Thanks again for the Quick Reply
Gregorio Padilla I don’t want to be the one that told you yeah it’s okay and you break your car lol
Gregorio Padilla but this is what I did. I plugged in my obd2 reader so that I can read the coolant temperature. I know that according to google normal temps was 190f - 220f degrees. So I drove everyday while monitoring the temperature. If it stayed within that range then nothing bad should happen. I also tuned the heater on so I can cool down the motor so that it won’t reach 240f degrees or above.
@@KingNidus So using the heater while this is going on is a great idea to keep the motor temp down? Good thing it just got cold here today so having the heater on is mandatory right now
Why is he calling a bolt a screw lmao
mike because you screw them in lol
Because it's not a bolt. It has no connecting appliance on the opposite end. Thus, a screw. Get rekt boi.
please stop making these shake and bake camera videos, they are just bad work.hard to watch
vicomedia1 don’t watch then wtf
