    Hello sir...mind if I share some pro tips? 1) Don't use a tack cloth right out of a pack. It leaves residue. OPen the pack, spread the tack cloth completely open and sit in air for an hour. Don't press the tack cloth, light wipe. To preserve it, leave it in a loose ball in a big jar. 2) Brand new gun you must clean it with lacquer thinner first before they come lubed to protect them - which can get in your paint 3) PPS cups rule !!! LOL...4) BIG ONE...don't spray epoxy primer with a 1.7 primer tip...ONLY use those for highbuild. If you spray epoxy with 1.2 or 1.3 like basecoat , you will thank me - Sorry , not being critical in any way...just sharing stuff I know :-)

    Berry this is George 11B MOPH 4th ID,1968. I have built and restored cars ( early mustangs and c 2 corvettes for close to fifty years. ) I have had the honor of having one of my corvette custom make it into the International Rod and Custom show held in Chicago in 1972. I later had another corvette I restored, a 1965 roadster that had a six pages article on the car and myself in Vette Vues July 1985 issue. I have a 1963 corvette now that I built about ten years ago with a LS 1 engine 4L60 trans and 3:55 posi rear end. Gets through the quarter mile in the high 12's. I'm 76 years old and have no reason to stop my love for these cars. About a year ago I picked up a 65 convertible mustang that was pure junk. I cut the dash with A pillars off and rear seat hardware and scraped the rest of the car. I bought a new 1965 mustang chassis had the other parts dipped. I than started building a new body. It was about that time I came across you on RUclips and your project. I have to say that I learned a lot from watching your video's. I think what you are doing is great. I look forward to your new videos. We are brothers and for those that don't understand that's what makes it special. You know what the hell your doing. Take care.

    You want to use something around a 1.3 for epoxy primer, a 1.8 to 2.0 for build primer then back to the smaller tips for base/ clear. Stick with one paint system, mixing brands can lead to problems. Don't use windex to wipe down parts it contains ammonium hydroxide glycol ether and surfactant which could lead to adhesion problems.

    You really should be wrapping the threads on your air fittings with Teflon tape and switch over to high flow couplers and quick connects from your compressor down to the spray gun, switch them all... doing this will give you a nice high volume of air for that gun that needs lots of air.

    hi barry great vids and advise as always following it to the letter would it be right to use epoxy primer on the insides of doors etc and between pieces that are sandwiched together and using weld through primer where plug welds are as from the factory it was just bare metal

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  4 года назад +1

      You can, but epoxy is meant to go to clean, rust free metal. It is also not uv compliant. Meaning it really needs to be top coated. If water will be in contact, it will eventually fail.

    Great Video. I used Summit epoxy primer on some panel and very happy with it. But I strange thing I noticed if the leftover primer is in a seal container it will never harden. You can mix it again and spray again even after 2 weeks in a seal jar. It seem the activator will separate from primer and stays on top in the jar. Again you can mix it and spray. have you noticed anything like that before?

  • @elcam84
    @elcam84 4 года назад +2

    I generally don't pour out of a paint can anymore. I use a cheap dollar store ladle to transfer paint to mixing cups. I also see you prefer black primer. Any reasoning for that? Black does always look good though.
    And PPS cups are awesome but pricey even if you get the knockoff versions.

      Being epoxy, it really doesn't matter I guess. it will have a top coat. I typically use grey for that. A contrasting color lets you know you have good coverage. I agree on the PPS cups. It is what it is though.

      @@JoDaddysGarage Same here on the contrasting colors makes life easier. PPS cups prices are high but it does beat cleaning paint cups and the time saved and chemicals not used might make up for it.

    I was thinking of using this product Epoxy Primer as a sealer coat for the bare interior of my Chevelle after I remove all the surface rust, would this be a good idea, I would like to get the Summit Grey colored Epoxy Primer, and can this be the sole coating, or does it have to be painted over as well? I hoping that just a single coat of the epoxy will suffice, what are your thoughts on this. thanks for any help,

      If all the rust is gone and clean metal, epoxy is great. I'd spray two coats as epoxy is pretty thin. It wouldn't hurt to top coat it with something else. Epoxy is pretty tough, but it has no UV protection.

    My epoxy primer says to sand bare metal 120-150. Since a DA sands so gently would that still be 120-150 or rougher?

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  Год назад

      Good question. I think as long as you’re using the required grit it should be ok. The problem is continuously sanding as the paper wears out. That will make the metal “smoother” as well.

    Great videos and very informative. Is the Summit Racing epoxy primer compatible with other brands of primers and paints (ppg, sherwin williams, etc)? I don't know if the chemistry in the different manufacturers will be a problem. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    The best rust primer is. Mastercoat permanent rust sealer. Mic silver look it up

      the best anti rust inhibitor in the paint industrie is called Zinc Chromate. i looked up Mastercoat permanent rust sealer. it appears to be a normal cheap epoxy primer it should be well known to any car painter that. an epoxy primer is inferior in any aspect to a real etch primer with filler on top. other than in terms of speed and cost. phosphoric acid
      is what bites in the actual metal. that yellow stuff u rather not use with the shinny 900 euro spray gun :P it comes in red too , CR and CF... forgot most of the details. school has been too long, but what i did learn is that what u say is not true, even when i tried to look it up it doesn't even refer to a tdc that says what actual rust inhibitor was used. for all i can tell it could be whale sperm.
