- In today’s video I’m spraying metallic with Summit Racing’s R500 lvlp spray gun (1.3 tip) and a small compressor to show you that the spray gun is capable of spraying metallic and doing a nice job doing so. Also I go through the process on prepping aftermarket plastic parts to get them ready for the paint process.

Big facts
@UndergroundPaintKing hi brother i have a 50 litre compressor with 11 cfm rating will this gun work with my compressor
I watched your sprayit lvlp video a year ago and bought one to spray my brothers truck who had a small compressor. I live 175 miles away I didn't want to drag my big conpreeseor to his house. Thanks too you it turned out beautiful. Now I can't find one anywhere out of stock everywhere for months. he still needed to squirt random parts. I'm bummed it was awesome. Thank you Mr KING. YOU THE MAN for saving my bacon.!
You’re welcome Stephen and it’s great to hear success stories like yours and Summit has their copy of the SprayIT that does a great job so you may want to take a look into it…I appreciate you checking out the videos!
You can get the replica LVLP from Summit Racing and the gun is 87 dollars shipped. UPK has a few videos on that as well.
Thanks guys I was in love with sprayit gun it made me look like a hero it laid down perfect and the last race car I painted was 2001 his. First one. Super impressed but you are the reason I watched you dial it in and I just copied what you did. Super big thanks from the evergreen state.

I've never seen any pro spray painter running a direct drive air compressor, apart from the noise it would never keep up with some of the brand name guns, the R500 only uses about 3.5cfm its a great gun for the home guy with little air compressors and their under $50usd on ALI Express best value real spray gun you can buy, I have one I got for sealers primer and some base paints I have a DeVilbiss DV1 I use for clears
If you’re doing small parts or panels, you could definitely still use a small compressor with a brand name spray gun but it would be a challenge for taking on a overall paint job! Appreciate you checking out the video 🙏🏽💯

As a painter for a few years. I learned. All paints can be cut to spray atomize. Lacquer based paints cut with lacquer.
Oil based water based paints cut with water.
And using a big sprayer will work but have to cut oil based paint and one can use big sprayer for cars. Small jobs. Cabinets. Where I learned.
Saalute to All!
Thanks for the information Shaun and I Salute you for getting into the trade💯💪🏾
Turned out awesome. So glad you used alcohol instead of wax and grease remover on the bare plastic. Watched another RUclipsrs video and he used wax and grease remover. Then complained to the viewers that the primer had a reaction. This guy says he's a ASE certified collision repair tech.
Appreciate you SWC for checking out the video and I’ve seen others use grease and wax also…hopefully he’ll change up and start using alcohol

Your paint technique is so deliberate, so even and good that you could make a spray can look good. The real question is, can any one of us make that gun work like that? Ha ha ha
Lol, Thanks Edward I appreciate you and I know you can make this spray gun work just like me and others 💯💪🏾
You made that paint look great! The gun is basically the same as the Aeropro R500 and Sprayit LVLP. All known to spray well with a small compressor. Mostly the differences between all types of guns are the aircap hole sizes and the resulting fan size which is evident in that gun. Fan was kind of small, but overspray was very low. Great for home painters on panel jobs. For full resprays, I'd look into something with a wider fan.
I appreciate you Boss Hawg and you’re right it’s not the biggest fan but it does a good job and I have done a few full resprays with it and they came out good…I appreciate you checking out the video Boss!
@@UndergroundPaintKing that's what's up! Keep spreading the knowledge.

Handled like a true pro. Last year I repaired a side skirt on a 2010 Viper, and the owner wanted to replace the rear bumper. $3000 later oem from dodge and it was a DEFECT. It came with e-coat primer on it but they failed to use adhesion promoter from the factory. I went to prep for paint and the factory primer flaked off in CHUNKS.
Perfect example of what I was trying to explain!…I appreciate you checking out the video Stax and I hope the channel is helpful 💯
@@UndergroundPaintKing glad I discovered this channel, always good content. I saw the video on using sticky da paper for an interface pad and knew you were a genius lol. Hi from the UK. 10 to 15ft....Lord have mercy. There would be material wastage for sure!!! Not a drop but an invisable coat.... LOL. The mottling occurs with course silvers or darker mettalics. IMHO, it is not necassarily the gun, but the person behind the gun. I have Sata's and the WS400 and others, but I do have about 5 LVLP's and they all have their place. Another nice informative and clear video from the KING.
Lol I don’t know why I said 10-15 feet 😂…I definitely agree with you on it being the person and not the gun Niam because the gun can only do what the operator set it up to do and how the operator is using it
@@UndergroundPaintKing Havinf a reputable spray gun, does help and atomises the clear far better, or the trigger is more responsive. But the cheap Chinese guns just fall apart from exposure to chemicals or the internals wear out. Ending up in the proverbial BIN. Whereas, the Robust guns, such as, Iwata, Sata, Devilbiss ca ne relied upon to perform time and time again. However all said and done, its 'Horse for Courses' Some people just have 3 guns and no more or the weekend warriors have just ONE and wonder why the clear has bits of mettalics in it???? Me, I have dedicated guns for Filler, Primer, Sealer, metallics, 3 stage, Candies, flakes and whatever takes my fancy. I just have a passion for painting. My observations of the Black Widow is it is a little on the slow side shooting the clear coat, where as my Sata's really hose it on and you need to move fast. They are defo not forgiving in the hands of a person used to a cheap spray gun. As there will be more runs than on any iced up Road in Winter😅😅😅
@@niamakhtar2234 😂😂😂 I hear what you’re saying but for a lot of people they are working on a single project and may never pick up a spray gun again so that’s why the cheaper spray guns come in handy…im a Devilbiss guy myself but can work with a cheaper gun as well as a high end gun but I do my best to show people that you can use either…I definitely agree that with the better made guns you have to know what you’re doing and know how to move fast or your smile is gonna be dragging while your clear coat sagging 🤣🤣🤣
It's so bad ass to see you paint like that with a gun that is basically the same as the one I just bought don't know what mm? Tip version your using but it's so inspiring to know what's possible with the equipment I have thanks for the video bro awesome job

One more thing, what’s the best smaller compressor to purchase if you know plz. I live down the street from summit so I’m going to be buying this spray gun..Just a FYI
Hey brother, loving your videos and learning a lot from them. I do have one question though. My oldest son and I are rebuilding my old mustang. Once I get ready for paint, I plan on using a single stage. It's an ebay kit called "electric blue" and it appears to have a lot of metallic in it. Will I still be able to use a LPLV gun to spray a single stage metallic or should I look for a different color? Or should I stay away from metallic as I'm a novice. Keep up the great work!!
You can still use a single stage with Lvlp Roland and it can be metallic so you will be fine…I appreciate you checking out the video!
Perfect job drop coat is crucial as it allows the metallic to stand up on the bumper for that even shimmer in natural light... Gun seem to be good...
Thanks Darren I appreciate that,it’s always good hearing and getting good information and feedback from people doing the work…I appreciate you checking out the video!
@@UndergroundPaintKing i use a fast mover lvlp spray gun i like LVLP beacuse it sprays clear really nice good atomization less orange peel... They say LVLP can't spray metallic well you proved that claim wrong in this vid nice work....

Nice Swampy! Appreciate you checking out the video 💯
Is it important to use the same brand primer as your base? I was thinking about picking up some of Grant 7s black base and oh my clear for my car and truck, but using the Duplicolor high build primer you showed in another video. I know using the same brands for base and clear is best practice but what about primer? Thanks again for an awesome video and also showing us how to properly paint plastic bumpers
You don’t have to use the same primer brand as the base and clear brand Ryan you definitely can use the primer you want and go with Grant 7 products which is gonna be nice by the way💪🏾…I hope the channel continues to help out!
Just subscribed. Thought I’d say hi.
I appreciate you subscribing Ted C, I hope the channel helps 💯
Utube is screwing you. The picture gets all dark the second time was ok 15 mins later. One guy said easy on the first coat of clear, just to make it sticky for the next two coats. Then less chance of runs. And obviously it doesn’t matter. The cheap gun is the guy that is using it. He did a fine job.
In the video?
Good job. I just got one. What tip was used on clear coat? 1.3 also? Following for tips before I tackle my 2000 gmc sierra 1500 4x4
Thanks I appreciate you and yes it was the 1.3 tip for clear coat also
Great video upk. Is there a difference between the red scotch brite and the gray. Keep the videos coming my friend
Thanks for always supporting me James and yes there is a difference, the gray scotchbrite leaves a finer sand scratch than the red scotchbrite…the red scotchbrite is equivalent to 320 grit and the gray is equivalent to 800 grit
Another great video King, been learning alot quick question what gun is that from summit 02-50013 🤔. Only reason I asked because I seen in the comments some mentioned a replica of the Sprayit. Just wanted to confirm. And also the 91% alcohol tip was tremendous been thinking of a better cleaner and you nailed it. 👏 blessings King ✌
Appreciate you Bohemian Race Art and the spray gun from summit is a copy of the SprayIT spray gun it’s a 1.3 tip…I hope the channel continues to help!
Great vid mate. Can I ask why you recommend alcohol over wax and grease remover? Is that on plastic only or should I be avoiding wax and grease remover on everything? Cheers.
Thanks Michael, I appreciate you checking out the video and you can use grease and wax on everything but the plastic bumpers , it’ll leave a residue that can cause a reaction on the plastic bumpers which is why it is good to use the alcohol
Great result UPK. Did you spray everything with just the 1.3 nozzel tip that it comes with?
Thanks I appreciate you Aido and I sprayed everything with the 1.3 tip except the primer sealer which was a 1.8 tip and it was my Devilbiss primer gun
Hello, I am wondering what kind of Primer sealer you are using? I love all your videos. Thanks
Thanks Earl I appreciate you and I use 2 different sealers actually, I use a 1k sealer made by Transtar which is good for bumpers and plastic parts and I use a 2k sealer made by shopline which is a ppg mid grade line…hope that helps!
Looks great siver is hardest color to paint if you don't know what you doing
Thanks Joaquin I appreciate you and yes it can be a tough color to spray!
would you do a review of the suction feed type of the same spray gun? Thanks
I’ll look into it Boboei I appreciate you checking out the video!
Great video once again!
Question, would you pick this gun or the Sprayit to paint an entire car with, primer, base coat, and clear coat?
I’m picking up a 20 gallon compressor. This will be my first car.
They are a exact copy of each other, other than a few details so if I had to pick I would go with the SprayIT because it’s made with a tad bit more quality but both will get the job done
Love the videos as always man, keep up the grind 💪🏽 do you have a recommendation of a good sealer primer that you use for this lvlp gun and small compressor?? I’ll be starting a project very soon with a small compressor
Appreciate you checking out the videos dkmaloney…you can use any brand sealer as long as you have the proper tip size to spray it…lvlp spray guns are capable of performing just like hvlp spray guns but just at a lower pressure
Looks nice and has the oem look. In your opinion which gun do you like best Spray it 33000 or this Summit gun? I looking for advice as this will be my first DIY paint job.
Far as I have found Joe is that they are the same gun but I think the SprayIT is just made a little better than the summit version but either gun will work good for you!
Looks great what size are s the compressor
Thanks Joaquin I appreciate you and my compressor is a 21 gallon
Not only does the primer sealer give extra adhesion it gives a better base color for the metallic base.
Yeah it does…I appreciate you giving that tip because I didn’t mention it 💯
@@UndergroundPaintKing Anytime I can help I will.

Hey paint king I need some help please my gun came with 1.3 tip and I wana do my project in single stage the 1.3 didn’t seem wide enough I had a hard time with painting a big panel or whole car what tip do you recommend getting with my second gun? 1.7 ? Or bigger ? 2.0 ?the overlap seemed to dry too fast and or wasn’t wide enough if ya get what I mean I will eventually be doing a base clear but single stage non metallic is easier for wet sand and buffing lol
I would go with what’s recommended by the brand paint you went with, some paints are thicker than others so the 1.3 might not be best, also were you able to thin the single stage to help with it spraying smooth and flowing out better? I honestly would need the information on the materials you used to actually be able to help
Did you remove the little filter dingus they include? I hate using those things -- does your paint cup system have a filter in it, or do you just pre-filter?
Are you using pre-mixed metallic or are you adding flake?
No I didn’t remove the filter, the pps cups have a filter in it and I filter my paint still, and I use pre mixed metallic
Wait a minute after the adhesion promoter, and you sprayed the primer sealer, and it dried didn’t sand it down for the paint
You don’t have to sand the sealer you can paint over it after the proper flash time
Love your work champion. What’s happened to Sprayit guns, unavailable on Amazon for ages.
Thanks Bill I appreciate that and I honestly don’t know what happen with the SprayIT, I think the company that sales them is recovering from issues of the pandemic and the SprayIT should be available later this year
Great Video. Most believe that the Summit LVLP and the Spray it guns are the same. Has anyone tried to see if the tips are interchangeable?
Thanks Dante I appreciate you and that’s a good question 🤔 I’m gonna look into that!
They should be, i have summitracing lvlp and eastwood lt100 and they are interchangeable.
