I’ve seen a lot of clips of Mayer just sitting in with people and hanging back out of the lights, just digging playing his guitar. He’s a thoroughbred musician and student of the craft. Love him for stuff like this.
If you don’t have it you need to get David Ryan Harris‘s first solo CD. part of why he never made it as a solo artist is he is so talented and does music from so many different genres the record company didn’t know how to market him and what radio to play him on. I first saw David in 1989 in Clemson when he was a teenager. He was lead singer and lead guitarist for Follow for Now. I saw them in Clemson, Columbia, and Charleston probably at least a dozen times.
@@eamonnw true, good point! There's a big dose of that too. I think the best way to summarise it is that the phrasing is quite BB King but the attack of the notes and some of the more aggressive licks like the 12th fret strumming are SRV.
Can't believe it's half of JMs band and at the same time they've been featured on Scary Pockets channel. Love these crossovers, what a time to be alive! And look at JM's joyful face when he plays that bluesy solo!
He recently joined repeat SP vocalist Lizzy McAlpine (I think it was at the Troubadour too) so it's not as surprising as it may have been a few years ago. He's really gotten into interacting with other artists online, regardless of whether they've sold a million records or 1000.
@@BryceRogers_ I meant that a few years ago, it would be less likely for someone of his stature to join "unknown" artists as it is now after all musicians were forced to go online only for a year and a bit. Hands down the best musician at “serving the song”. Adds his own spin, nice spice, not too flashy, and not over stepping, he just fills the space perfectly!
Drummer is incredible. He matched the soloist's intensity and feel so well! That's such a hard thing to do for live solos, but he caught Mayer's thoughts and shapes and helped it along. Mad respect!
Man, John Mayer is a virtuoso, even though you expect him to be good he keeps amazing you. This is how good he is. DRH X John Mayer X Scary Pockets = Winning combination!
WTF! The grooviest groove on the Tube! Scary Pockets are a seriously class act and the ease of JM’s playing is off-the chart. I loved how everyone is so in the pocket and enjoying themselves yet giving space to their featured guitarist!
In every performance I've seen/heard of John sitting in with other bands, he's always been tasteful with his playing and respectful of the other musicians on stage. Think I remember hearing or reading him saying something about how much he enjoys being *in* a band, as opposed to leading one. It definitely looks like he's having a ton of fun whenever I watch him perform as a featuring artist.
@@philipprdawg337 duh but if i did that, the credits and stats won't go to DRH , JM or the Scary Pockets artist profile. While i enjoy their music, i think they must always get the credits :)
@@anexiole true, i only do it till it releases officially, so i can listen on the go and dont have to waste data for the video as i listen to it on repeat anywhere i go :D
Beyond incredible that you guys have grown this to the point that DRH and Mayer are getting in on the action. Insanely good performance! Further proof that we need a full on JM jam band record.
Been following David since he was a teenager and the lead singer and guitarist for Follow for Now. August 1989 at TDs bar in Clemson. First time I saw him. Then went to see those guys probably another dozen times in Charleston, Columbia, and of course Clemson. His first solo album several years after the band is still one of my favorite records of all time.
2 of my favorite artists on one stage - amaziiiiing!!! 🤩🤩🤩😍😍 Cant believe you got John Mayer!! but I really hoped he would sing as well but since I saw that theres no mic in front of him, I just enjoyed his incredible precise guitar play 😭😄
This John Mayer guy's really got something, looking forward to following his career! Well done Scary Pockets for giving unknown musicians such great exposure.
This lineup of musicians is absolutely bananas. You kidding me? Everyone sounds PHENOMENAL. Oh and ofc those guitar solos were some of the best ever. No surprise there from JM.
Just crazy 😜 about David’s performance singing “I got your back “ …of course I love 💗 when you are doing a solo and I love watching you play your guitar 🎸 cannot get enough of how you make your guitar talk and cry. There you have it 😂😂😂

Right on!
I’ve seen a lot of clips of Mayer just sitting in with people and hanging back out of the lights, just digging playing his guitar. He’s a thoroughbred musician and student of the craft. Love him for stuff like this.
It's so cool watching him blend in as a sideman. He's a beast.
David Ryan Harris can melt butter with that voice!
Saw him live last night with Scary Pockets. A voice like velvet ❤❤❤
I’ve been a fan John’s for over 10 years and still everytime I hear him play I just can’t believe how good he is at guitar.
Bro right! It blows my mind seeing him live and seeing that guy rip it to pieces!
Yep... started listening to John Mayer in high school. Shit, that was **twenty years ago** I am old 🫠
@@mmmbetter55 I remember hearing "No Such Thing" in rotation on KFOG before anybody else was playing John's music.

I love David Ryan Harris, and you got FREAKING John Mayer!! Love that John is popping up and having fun with different artists.
Ryan Harris toured with John for years playing guitar and backup vocals. Fun fact.. lol
DRH is basically one of John older/ biggest mentors

@@nickjonesofficial yeah, it's still awesome that they got him.
I found Archie Woods on a RUclips comments section! Archie and I played in a band in college. I love me some John Mayer and DRH.
I love when John let's his SRV musical energy flood the stage
Yeah, me too!
He's done a few less bluesy solos recently, nice to hear him rip and shred a real bluesy solo again
I'm hearing more bb king

David Ryan Harris plays in John Mayers band a lot that's definitely the connection.
DRH has toured with John for over 20 years.
I love how David Ryan Harris has kept his own sound!! I love how he and John respect each other's musical uniqueness.

Mayer and David Ryan Harris refuse to work with drummers who aren’t incredible
That's what any decent drummers does.
Scary Pockets always get stellar musicians, and Lemar Carter is no exception. He's a great drummer!

This is crazy good. That stage was so full of talent I don't see how it held up. Fantastic video. Thanks guys
What a collab! Love how John just goes to these smaller venues and just kills it.
