You guys really got John Mayer, I'm so glad everybody and that mainstream music world is starting to see that you guys are absolutely killer!
He recently joined repeat SP vocalist Lizzy McAlpine (I think it was at the Troubadour too) so it's not as surprising as it may have been a few years ago. He's really gotten into interacting with other artists online, regardless of whether they've sold a million records or 1000.

If you don’t have it you need to get David Ryan Harris‘s first solo CD. part of why he never made it as a solo artist is he is so talented and does music from so many different genres the record company didn’t know how to market him and what radio to play him on. I first saw David in 1989 in Clemson when he was a teenager. He was lead singer and lead guitarist for Follow for Now. I saw them in Clemson, Columbia, and Charleston probably at least a dozen times.

@@eamonnw true, good point! There's a big dose of that too. I think the best way to summarise it is that the phrasing is quite BB King but the attack of the notes and some of the more aggressive licks like the 12th fret strumming are SRV.

I’ve seen a lot of clips of Mayer just sitting in with people and hanging back out of the lights, just digging playing his guitar. He’s a thoroughbred musician and student of the craft. Love him for stuff like this.

Drummer is incredible. He matched the soloist's intensity and feel so well! That's such a hard thing to do for live solos, but he caught Mayer's thoughts and shapes and helped it along. Mad respect!

I was there standing just out of frame at the bottom. JM's first note out of that vibroverb hit me in the face in the most beautiful way.
BTW for a subplot of this vid: after the first solo, you can see a brunette woman appear in the crowd in front of JM holding up a phone and then eventually around 5:20 mark her arms straight up trying to get John's attention. When the crowd listens to DRH and gets quiet around 5:41, she yells "John!". This chick barreled through the crowd and myself to get to the front and express her thirst for JM. I'm also a huge JM fan and was super excited, but this was so out of line and disrespectful to DRH. I overheard her tell the guy next her "He's literally my favorite person in the world." Lady: take a pic, tuck your boner, and enjoy the show.
You can even see David looking right at her with pure disappointment. It would have annoyed me too if I was him.
Yeah the craze is pretty outrageous sometimes. They handled it professionally tho. Just wish people would treat artists like regular people lol, that chick is weird

In every performance I've seen/heard of John sitting in with other bands, he's always been tasteful with his playing and respectful of the other musicians on stage. Think I remember hearing or reading him saying something about how much he enjoys being *in* a band, as opposed to leading one. It definitely looks like he's having a ton of fun whenever I watch him perform as a featuring artist.

Not gonna lie guys, when i first saw this, i thought it was in 2006-07 cause John was really looked like in his Continuum days
This band lineup is broken. Absolutely filthy, every single one of em. Wish this could stay a band just like this, the songwriting alone would be off the charts.
I don't think even Mayer can make this sound ok. This is circa 2005 Mayer styles, which I can appreciate, but the voice is just not there.

I know there was a time when John was getting a hard time for the way he acted in all those interviews as a pop star. I trust we can all say those days are well in his past, and he has more than atoned for it as a guy who just truly lives to be a musician and will happily share the stage with anyone of a similar creative mind.
