They had the Sam Bush signature series f5 mandolin.. the edges of the frets were so ragged I thought I was going to need a tetnis shot when I left.. and it was on sale for like $7,999 ONLY! Since then I have owned a Gibson f9 which is bare bones craftsmanship with none of the bells and whistles and it was easily the winner of the two instruments as far as play and sound goes. I just wanted to tell that story because it happened in Memphis and it almost turned me off to their whole line of 'new' instruments.. oh yeah the f9 was a steal at $2500 cash money.

    I saw John Mayer live a few years back. I would suggest that he is an amazing band member, period. He passed the ball to everyone in his band throughout the course of the evening. Every member of his band was an absolute monster, and could have led their own group. So, maybe I could say something like: he is a very gracious band leader for his solo stuff. In any case, for someone who is or was a self-identified ego-addict, I think that he has done an amazing job of tempering that when it comes to collaborating with other musicians.
    I love your videos, Michael. I am working through your GIT Masterclass on Udemy and then I plan on joining your site at GuitarGate. You are a very gifted instructor and your passion for music and the guitar is infectious. Thank you for sharing your light.

    @RickMcCargar 4 года назад +19

    Your discussion of the band "getting" what John was doing after the 23 minute mark is what Duane Allman And Dickey Betts did every night. They'd jam on songs they knew and when one of them wanted to go somewhere new, the whole band went right with him. When they had someone sit in with them, the band acted as if the new guy had always been with them. It's a skill the best develop from endless playing and jamming. Most of us have work lives, home lives and personal lives...then guitar/music. For those people, the music is first. Makes all the difference.

    Wow, that is one tight group. That is what you get when you put together a group of people that are playing because they love music and not focused on their own ego, fame, or money. They hear the whole groove and not just listening to their own self. You can see how they are all connected to making music and not showing off. Mayer solo was not only just killer by itself, but the way all the others were perfectly involved in the groove made it extremely rare. The ending of Mayer’s solo was mind blowing. The first song I remember ever noticing a band being perfectly synced was the Allman Bros Whipping Post. I get more impressed every time I see/hear Mayer play. I can see that he is connected to the music like you pointed out SRV was it you reaction to his.

      I figured out its a no pick bend, he just slides into it... Sounds so ghosted! And the licks after, he just knows how to play softly and use that dynamic range for impact so well.

    That video was absolutely incredible. Thank you for breaking it down and showing us what is going on. I really think all musicians want to aspire to be that good. What happened here takes hours and hours of playing together and also a humbleness to know your place. They are all stars in my book and i love John Mayer a ton but David Ryan Harris and Isaiah Sharkey are playing amazing stuff here. Cool, different, and interesting. What a groove! Thanks so much for sharing....this made my day!

    He’s backed John Mayer for a while. I remember seeing him live with John Mayer. You can see him live with John on where the light is concert. It’s very nice to see John backing him. It’s awesome to see that.

      John actually found David’s music when John was just starting out. It’s a great story...DRH has done some interviews about it. They’ve been buds for 20 years.

    You hear David Ryan Harris say, "This is the last Train, the last Train Home" then Johns ears prick up with that being the name of his single this year a year and a bit later. Maybe it was a tip of the hat from David because he had already heard it way back then or John got the idea in that moment. Ahh I love Music, Mayer & Musicians in general. Thank you Michael.

    Mike, I just got here. Your subscribers who are suggesting all these songs to react to are a BAD ASS bunch of people. I have increased my library significantly because of them/you. I LOVE how you pick stuff apart ... even though I don't play guitar at all and barely speak music from only a singer's point of view.
    I am HOOKED on this channel, yo. Kepp it up.

    I just saw this for the first time and I listened to it like 10 times before bed last night. It's just so good!! I can't even.... As Sharky is playing, I found myself numerous times just laughing out loud at the mastery of it. You can tell who the musicians are in the audience. Especially the guitar players, lol.It makes me sad, in a way, becuase I have no one to share my love of this and jazz with. Everybody i know is like, "Yawn," lol. I need more good-music-loving people in my life! Sigh.
