Sometimes when I run into videos like this or stories, I get mad at myself for being ungrateful sometimes, to what I have. Sad thing that we tend to forget how lucky we are to live normal lives. I feel extreme despair in my chest, my heart goes out to these girls. Can't imagine what they go trough.

Well, to be fair 'Romania' is not one homogenous mass. As was already pointed out, gypsies as a group have a load of problems with exemplifying crime and a hatred of women, and outside of that ethnic component, there are massive differences between a wealthy city, a troubled city and the countryside.
Having had to study 'the former eastern block' I got a bit of background on the development of Romania during the 1990's up until now and things have improved massively.

They are both latin languages so have similar roots. Romanian is similar to Spanish, french and italian too as they are all latin languages. However Portuguese is the latin language furthest from romanian.

Looking at this documentary: this is basically what a lot ignorant ppl imagine Romanians to be, how Romania and "typical Romamians" looks like in their illusion. All bc of the names Romanian/Roma(ni). Using this logic I guess _Roma_ ("Rome"; capital of Italy) and the _Roman Empire_ are also the same thing 😒 I don't know how many times I had to explain to people that Roma(ni) and Romanians aren't "the same thing". And this documentary simply fails to point out the history, background and distinct ethnicity of Roma people and to point out that they live in Romania - but aren't ethnic Romanians.

I just saw the BBC documentary on this, but they didn't accept comments. The same girl who was kidnapped at 12 and rescued by her mother was kidnapped again. The police acted so slowly that one girl got murdered by the time they traced the call and got there 24 later. They aren't even punished for doing this, making me think that the police are in on it getting a cut of the action. I wish these girls could defend themselves, carry a knife or something.

That's how the countryside in Romania works. Unlike in other countries it isn't a retirement place...it's just poverty from birth to death. Many villages don't have schools/hospitals, running water in the taps etc. They live how they can. Also guys in poor conditions tend to be gang or bad boy oriented. People in Romania can have very nasty attitudes depending on where they are from. I guess it all adds up

The thing is, nobody is bothered by their ethnicity but by their culture and their lack of integration. When the Rumanian government give to some gypsies families an apartment they made a pigsty of it and it is not a hearsay. Maybe the government of Rumania should introduce a compulsory level of education for all (gipsy included). I think I need to say that the girls are Romanian girls of Roma ethnicity. It's very sad, that the gypsy girls are abused like this by own people. This is so upsetting,
It has nothing to do with being gypsy or non-gypsy. It has to do with being female and poor. The same kinds of young women as these - except this time from Eastern Europe (white caucasian girls!!) - are abused and trafficked just as much if not more than these girls. Poverty and female gender are a toxic mix in a dysfunctional world.

Happens every day, not just in Romania but mostly in Italy, social workers will try anything to take a single mothers child away just because she is poor instead of helping her find a home which is illegal. Some social workers in Italy illegally take your child away because they gain money from the adoptions they make of the poor mothers child.
And as for poor mothers I mean JUST poor including, loving poor mothers, non abusive moms, hardworking moms.
Just because they are alone they will try to take your child unless you have a lawyer or strong connections to help you.
