I was at the Detroit Grand Prix in 1982 taking pictures in the pits (incidentally with no press credentials back then) when Keke comes in after a flying lap, hops out of the FW08, pulls a pack of Marlboro reds out of his racing suit pocket, and fires it up!! Then a pit crew member handed him a beer!! 😂😂😂 I'm thinking I absolutely love this guy!! Three decades later, I married my Finnish wife!! ❤❤

I met Keke, in Zell am See, - (he had a Campervan parked at the Lakeside) where he spent most of the Times in between Races during the Formula Super V days. One time he had a Test arranged at the Salzburg Ring and he invited me to go along. While waiting for His Race-Car to arrive, he took me for a couple of Laps in his 240Z around the Race-track!! A very Memorable Experience to say the least.....😃

In 1982 Ferrari had the best cars. However, driver Didier Pironi was permanently injured while in a big lead in the championship, and never seriously competed again in F1. Other driver, Gilles Villeneuve was also killed earlier in the season, which knocked out the two biggest contenders. Under those tragic circumstances, and with his consistency, the championship went to Keke.

Keke, doesn't get enough valuation from his career. Williams wasn't that good car after switching from Cosworths (DF - what ever it was in last years) to Honda. Honda engine was good, but the gearbox and especielly the clutch was huge problem. Keke was training with the set-up a lot at Ahvenisto circuit in Finland where I'm from too. Wish he would have continued.. I have a t-shirt from when I was a toddler from monaco gp 1983.

@@DildobertvonPferd I didn't compare 1982 to 2024. I compared it to the 90's. No... they were more reliable but they still had tons of DNF's. For example Mansell had a tech. DNF in the first four races in 1991. Turbos became more reliable in 1983 already and Rosberg was still fighting against them with basically the same car. "Oh he won only 1 race". If you really understood something about that era, you'd think it's insane that he won Dijon in 1982 with that car and Monaco 1983 and Dallas 1984 (that years' Williams was a complete pig, even P.Head admitted that). Let alone the title in 1982. He smoked Daly completely in 1982 and beat Laffite 15-1 and 14-2 in the following years. Then he made Mansell look like an amateur in 1985 when they were teammates at Williams.
I don't know how delusional someone can be (not referring to you) that he wasn't a worthy Champ. Are you only worthy if you cruise to the title with a superior car (like Mansell did in 1992)?
Most of the people who comment these videos are kiddies who have seen the Senna movie and then they see the stats. There's so much more that numbers don't always tell you. Like Keke's whole early career with those sh*tboxes that he drove.
