Realized that on pad all you need is the left or right D-pad button because if you hold left/right and tilt the button downward, it gives you db/df. Releasing the button also ends the input with back or forward. This means you can just ignore down on the D pad and just roll your thumb on just 1 button and you get b, db, b or f, df, f.
For people still struggling , make sure to release d/b properly. After releasing d/b, command history should look like this d/b , b This allows you to backdash with ONE back input after releasing d/b Also, if you're getting the exact same commands as Anakin but still cant see a backdash, that means you're cancelling the dash before it starts. So what you should do is wait for your character to do the dash animation before inputting d/b
i am confused everytime i try i sidestep to the right, every time, i saw the YUYU vid, and for her she does BACK BACK DOWN BACK , but with both the same thing happens
This video posted 2yrs ago is like a dream come true for a player like me just started to learn a few months ago and with zero fighter experience. Thank you so much

Holy shit Anakin. I've been playing Tekken 7 over a year and never been able to backdash like that, until I found this video of yours. I freaking love you man!
F qcf f qcf f qcf f... Its just practice. Remember that you will need to access your moveset from wavedash, so practice things like wavedash electric, ws4, ff3/ff4, f4 and db4 and maybe add in iws2 and iws12 when you are really comfortable with wavedashing around. From there on you just have to grind it.
@@mikhailmikhailov8781 Unless the player uses a back sway character, I really wouldn't advise a quarter circle forward motion But still good advise! I actually used qcb b and qcf f when playing Mishimas.
This vid is so valuable, i've been playing tekken for over 20 years and still can't properly backdash on 2p side. I've been doing wavedash backwards to get infinite b-dash but sway back chars were a problem. Thanks man!
OH MY GOD, THANK YOU! Finally!!! This made so much sense I almost can't believe it. You saved me so much time, you have no idea, haha. The struggle has been real, and it's finally over, aaaaah! I'd buy you dinner if I could. You're the best, man.
Anakin you're a GOD! I tried yesterday with arcade stick and it was so hard (I've watched different videos - wrong videos) but now just tried with you on a pad and I can do KBD with Bryan! Thank you!
For anyone still having trouble .. Anakin says u don't have to lift off down back and then back ...it's a little misleading ...you let off down back for a hair and then press back. It's much more fluent. That's what he means about it's just back backing and masking the down back duck..
I probably meant to say right before you let go of d/b for a hair and press b (as you mentioned) you should be transitioning from db to b anyways (without letting dpad go). This is how you're able to dash back although you're only pressing B ONCE after the neutral
Hoa Luu yea. I never looked at it that way.. and then you said something like "yea a little wiggle" ..I kept playing the video over and over and it just clicked.. sat in practice mode for 4hours straight but it completely stepped up my dashing game. The masking the duck is a very important detail. Thanks ;)
Yeah but it doesn't work if you do db n b The correct input is : db,b n b (look at the command history and try yourself, you'll see, if you only press db n b, it'll not work or look at the vid I just did to show)
I dunno how old this tutorial is rly, BUT the way you explained how it works makes so much more sense...even if it takes a long way now....after after 5 minutes practicing your method, I did 2~3 KBDs. Progress. The right training method it all that is needed
Coming from a SF background and never playing Tekken before 7 I'm finding this extremely difficult. I can get the backdash from db sometimes but it's so inconsistent. I feel like I'm doing it right but the inputs usually say db,b most of the time and when I do it right it obviously says db,b,b but I feel like I'm doing the same motion. Guess it just comes down to practice and muscle memory. This is probably the best tutorial I've seen and I've watched dozens so thx Anakin.
They're basically just qcfs in a sense. Playing scrub tekken then doing it in ssfiv ironically warmed me up to the "harder" inputs in tekken when I started playing kinda seriously.
Doing this on P1 side on stick was no problem, but I had to practice quite a bit for 3 nights to get the backdash to come out consistently from crouch on P2. This tech works and it's important to take it nice and slow, then the motion becomes delicious to do.

In my command history the inputs are exactly right, but my character doesn't move backwards, it just crouch cancels at its position, am I doing something wrong?! hm lol, the way i backdash is basically a reverse mishima wave dash (and if the character has a qcb sway, i do b,n,u,ub,b)
when i do it it always register back down and down, not back down back
